Wonderful perfume, blueberry, raspberry, medium-bodied, with plenty of cranberry crunch, cool mineral feel, lovely carriage of flavour, fresh and long, a touch of gum leaf as it goes, and some graphite stuff. It does feel a bit unformed as at now, but the freshness and fragrance here is very appealing.

2021 Domaine Du Bouchot Orange BioLoire Valley, FRANCE$99. 99Bottle$1199.88 DozenABV: 12.5%Closure: CorkFormed in 1966, Domaine du Bouchet is now owned by Antoine Gouffier who purchased the 10 hectare estate in 2019. Antoine is a native of Saint Andelain, though he spent years abroad gaining experience in the USA, New Zealand, Middle East, Argentina and notably in South Africa. Upon returning to France, he purchased the estate from Pascal Kerbiquet, a local figure who had made a name for himself working organically and with biodynamic farming. In very short time Antoine has risen to prominence, and in 2022 was named “Discovery of the Year 2022” by the French wine magazine La Revue du Vin de France.
While only displaying a slight blush of colour, Orange is very much the textural and complex delight these skin contact wines are famed for. Six months on skins has lent a generous degree of pithy bitter fruit notes with hints of spice and Campari to close. A very good example of the style.
Other Reviews....
If you like Campari or Negroni, you will love the 2021 Orange with its herbal character reminiscent of fennel and dill, plus a bitter twist thanks to six months of skin contact. It's fresh and firm with a phenolic grip, white pepper sprinkle and elderflower-like character on the pure finish. The 2021 is balanced and clean. Drink 2023-2026.

Rebecca Gibb MW - VinousFrom the “normal white” color in the glass, you might not guess that this was an orange wine, but once you start on it you’ll get it. Concentrated bead of red-peach and spicy flavors and plenty of drive though the medium-bodied palate. Structured and slightly tannic, as befits the category. From biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification. Lots of character. Hard not to like this. Enjoy now.

Dave Brookes – James Halliday’s Australian Wine Companion - Buffalo Trace Traveller Whiskey (700ml)Kentucky, UNITED STATES$81. 99Bottle$983.88 DozenABV: 45%
A collaborative effort from Buffalo Trace Distillery, 'Traveller' brings together the collective artistry of 10X Grammy award-winning artist, Chris Stapleton and Buffalo Trace Distillery Master Distiller, Harlen Wheatley. Over fifty blends were sampled before making Blend No.40 the chosen combination. Little is known about the whiskey, what it's composed of, and whether or not any of the whiskey within the blend was even distilled at Buffalo Trace. However, Sazerac has confirmed that it contains 0% grain neutral spirits and has also stated it is a completely unique combination of whiskeys hand selected from multiple distilleries. 45% Alc./Vol.
Other reviews... The first celebrity-themed whiskey associated with Buffalo Trace, Traveller Whiskey offers a unique flavor profile that will appeal to the masses, but leaves more discerning consumers wondering what actually makes up the blend...First and foremost, the flavor profile is unfamiliar, arguably sweet to a fault, but will likely satisfy casual, mainstream whiskey drinkers. It’s mild enough for the masses to sip, while it is light it does offer a degree of creaminess that allows it to take a cube fairly well, and it even holds up well in a cocktail. While its flavor profile may be tuned more into the mainstream drinker than the enthusiast, it’s impossible to ignore the fact that this blended whiskey is unique in a number of ways. - breakingbourbon.com
Notes from the producers... Complex aromas of vanilla, aged fruit and buttery shortbread rounded off by caramel and a touch of oak. The palate has just a touch of sweetness, followed by spice, toasted nut and oak flavors, with a robust finish.

Citrus and cereal complexity on palate with nice soft wood. Lovely fruit and honey character. Very well put together”. Don Fulano 100% Agave Blanco Tequila (700ml)Jalisco, MEXICO$129. 99Bottle$1559.88 DozenABV: 40%Don Fulano Tequila is the fruit of five generations of agave growers and a distilling heritage that brings together the Highlands of Jalisco and the Valleys of Tequila. Today the Fonseca family are not only respected farmers – they also run La Tequileña, one of the highest-rated and most awarded of Jalisco's distilleries. It is also the last family-owned operation that is 100% self-sufficient in agave supply, allowing them to control the quality of their tequila from farm to bottle. They introduced the Don Fulano brand back in 2002. Says Lance Cutler, California-based Author and Winemaker, “Fonseca consistently creates tequilas rich with agave character yet graced with a delicate finish. His penchant for long-term barrel aging allows him to blend in ways never before seen in tequila production. In effect, Fonseca has created an entirely new class of tequila.”
Don Fulano's Blanco is rested for six months in stainless steel before bottling. The aromas open resiny, developing an earthy, lightly smokey agave edge alongside dill, white pepper and green tomato chutney. Nicely weighted, the supple, juicy delivery is complemented by low-burn alcohol, trailing off with hints of candle wax, potpourri, brine, mustard pickle and pepper. Give it enough breathing time and you have a classic, complex, full-bodied Blanco that's engaging from start to finish. 40% Alc./Vol. Tasted from a 30ml sample.
Other reviews... Clear color. Earthy, tropical, peppery, vegetal aromas and flavors of dill, salinity, green mango, white pepper, and chicory with a supple, shy, dry thin body and a tingling, long finish conveying notes of vanilla, caramel, cream, and white tea. A bright, lightly spicy and very well-balanced blanco for sipping or cocktails. 93 points - tastings.com
Peppery and lightly green on the nose, but also laced with notes of cinnamon, giving the tequila a certain breakfast-adjacent quality. Otherwise it’s mild and approachable, one of the gentlest blanco tequilas I can recall nosing in years. The palate hardly detracts from that setup, adding notes of lemon and lime peels to that baking cabinet quality. A simple grind of white pepper, a spritz of floral perfume, and a gentle note of vanilla linger as the finish — short and to the point — comes into focus. If you like your blanco tequila clean and shiny, this blanco will not disappoint. - drinkhacker.com
Nose: earth/ mineral/ pepper / hint of banana/ hint of citrus / lemongrass / hay / hint of alcohol Taste: sweet agave / vanilla/ earth / cinnamon/ anise / banana / pear / cherry / orange/ grapefruit/ anise / spearmint/ hint of cream soda Finish: very light viscous mouthfeel/ very nice smoothness across the whole taste / cool water effect / lingering anise, agave, cinnamon notes This blanco has a lot of great flavors and aromas working together. It has a nice balance between the sweet and cinnamon spicy that provides a very gratifying experience. The nose is weak and the alcohol is a touch more prevalent than what should be for a well made 40% abv, but it’s not a point stealing issue. It’s good overall, but with a touch more refinement it could be next level. - tequilamatchmaker.com

Other Reviews....
The 2015 Champagne Millésime is a bright straw color and is ripe and fruity on the nose, with aromas of black cherries, fresh violets, savory saline, and a hint of umami richness. The palate is full-bodied, with no phenolic bitterness, and never feels overtly savory. Pure, juicy, and inviting, it’s lovely and long on the palate, with a very pretty finish and a refined mousse that just frames the wine. It has a delicate note of toast that it needs time to harmonize, but I love what they have done with this vintage. Drink 2025-2045.

Aberlour A'bunadh Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)Speyside, Highlands, SCOTLAND$154. 99Bottle$1859.88 DozenAberlour’s cask strength A’bunadh has long been a darling of single malt aficionados, released in batches, each varies in proof and flavour as proportions of older or younger material make the cut, but the brief remains the same: Make a 100% ex-oloroso sherry aged malt using the inventory at hand (anywhere from 5 to 25 years old). Keep it natural, which means zero chill filtration, keep it balanced and keep it affordable. No information about the number of bottles from each batch of A’bunadh is offered, but they're large outturns for a global community, which makes for a significant blending challenge. That hasn't stopped collectors and fans of sherried malts from stocking up on those that are deemed better than others. With or without water, whichever way you like it, A'bunadh is worth checking out as you encounter it, at least so long as value remains Pernod-Ricard's priority.

Arriving with similar credentials (unpeated, locally grown organic barley, aged in x-bourbon and x-red wine casks), Gaia 2.1 promises another delicately complex Irish. Bottled at 50% Alc./Vol. Non chill-filtered.
Other reviews... An enormously impressive whiskey. At just 4 years old, it’s very full-bodied and characterful, with good complexity. It doesn’t taste old or anything, but it’s reached the level of maturity where those younger grassy notes, present in Gaia 1.1, are absent in this second release. The scotch comparison that I had in my head was Daftmill – this has that level of complexity and fruity brightness. - whiskybase.com
Notes from the producers... Appearance: Golden peach with super rich and thick oils on the glass. Nose: Orange peel, fresh soil, bread crust, brown sugar, milk chocolate, fresh fruit salad, fig roll biscuits, lavender, sweet marshmallows, butter milk. Taste: Spicy, white pepper, grapefruit, dry heat, liquorice, cherries, coco powder, wine gums, dry toast, salted peanuts, lemon zest. Finish: A dry spice dance that tangos and waltz's like a happy couple into the golden peach sunset.
- Stoli Salted Karamel Flavoured Vodka (700ml)LATVIA$63. 99Bottle$767.88 DozenABV: 37.5%
Although this is a brand which is often associated with Russia, it's not made in Russia nor under Russian ownership or control. Launched in 2012, Stoli hold claim to being the first to market a salted caramel infused vodka. Extracting the most flavourful components from caramel candy combined with sugar and a hint of salt results in an irresistible, luxurious dessert-style combination. The base spirit remains the company's famous grain vodka, triple-filtered through quartz sand and a birch activated charcoal column to ensure its outstanding quality and purity. Works as a standalone shooter or in cocktail variations of the Bloody Mary, Moscow Mule or Vodka Martini. 37.5% Alc./Vol.
Other reviews... Clear color. Aromas and flavors of caramel, nutmeg, milk chocolate and hazelnut, and vanilla cream with a glycerous, bright, dryish medium body and a tingling, interesting, medium-length finish manifesting notes of caramel and butterscotch, vanilla and hazelnut, raspberry and cinnamon, and heavy whipping cream. This seems purposefully crafted to be added to coffee desserts and drinks or use in your next espresso martini. 94 points - tastings.com
...Prominent caramel as promised but with hot spicy notes dominating the saltiness... We can see this being a popular shot. 4.5 stars - diffordsguide.com

Dense pitch black core with a deep dark red black hue. Alluring aromas of blackcurrant, dark cherry and subtle liquorice infiltrate the olfactory senses complimented by hints of tobacco, vanillin cedar, dried herb and spicy earth notes. Rich and concentrated yet polished and refined the palate is flooded with fleshy blackcurrant, dark cherry and liquorice fruits which are framed by firm, muscular yet integrated tannins. Vanillin cedar, earthy tobacco, dried herb, black olive and spice elements lurk underneath. Outstanding in its power, it finishes very long and deeply fruited with a robust feel.

Fascinating aromas of blackcurrants, orange peel, stone, minerals and blanched walnuts follow through to a medium to full body with firm and polished tannins that deliver a pleasant, caressing mouthfeel. But it requires more bottle age, as expected. This needs two or three years to show more, but it’s already very pretty. Drink after 2026.

This is very Cabernet, with its black currant, blackberry, violet, cedar and sandalwood notes uplifted by vibrant acidity and energetic tannins. Youthful and even a bit awkward now, yet the mineral-infused aftertaste goes on and on. Shows excellent overall balance and detail. Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Merlot and Sangiovese. Best from 2028 through 2042.

Don Fulano 100% Agave Reposado Tequila (700ml)Jalisco, MEXICO$139. 99Bottle$1679.88 DozenABV: 40%Rested in a combination of new and used French limousine oak barrels for a minimum of eight months and up to two years, Fulano's Reposado is akin to a smoother, more subdued version of the outstanding Blanco. Lightly peppered agave notes bring freshness and vibrancy to the rounded mouthfeel, while moderate oak influence makes for a point of difference in the category, the barrel input being secondary to the agave keynotes. 40% Alc./Vol. Tasted from a 30ml sample.
Other reviews... Matured for 8 to 11 months in French Limousin oak. Oak aging gives Don Fulano a lift and a twist, but less than you’d expect. Here the tequila takes on a stronger nose of fruit tones, evoking baked apples with a more forceful cinnamon element, with maple underpinning that still-present vanilla character and a considerably lighter green agave element. It’s not quite candylike either on nose or palate, but it’s definitely on the sweet side, and the palate presents a stronger note of caramel-covered apples, shortbread cookies, all dashed with vanilla. The finish is much more tenacious than the blanco, chewier and hinting at the underlying agave in vagaries that pop in and out as the creamy conclusion slowly comes to an end. - drinkhacker.com

Including more Mourvèdre than usual (40%), the 2021 Châteauneuf Du Pape sports a deep ruby/purple hue as well as an utterly classic Beaucastel nose of ripe red and blue fruits, spice, game, truffly earth, and ground pepper. Reminding me of the 2012, it's medium to full-bodied, has a layered, concentrated md-palate, sweet tannins, and a great finish.

JebDunnuck.comThe 2021 Chateauneuf du Pape ratchets up the intensity from the Coudelet, adding more pronounced Mourvèdre-derived notes of truffle and tree bark to go with ripe black cherries and plums, crushed stone and hints of dark chocolate. Full-bodied in the mouth, with ample concentration and richness, this gently tannic wine finishes long and velvety, with echoes of licorice and dark fruit. It's a standout from a difficult vintage. Drink 2024-2040.

Joe Czerwinski – Robert Parker’s The Wine AdvocateStill a little closed, so the fruit is a bit reserved, but there are already meaty, lavender and rosemary aromas. Well-structured and crisp, the tannins building steadily as it flows over the palate. The concentrated and ripe red fruit is very deftly wrapped around the core. Long, spicy, and licorice finish. Drink from release. From organically grown grapes.

2019 Domaine du Pegau Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee LaurenceChateauneuf du Pape, Southern Rhone, FRANCE$175. 00Bottle$2100.00 DozenClosure: CorkWhile previously Cuvee Laurence was made from a specific barrel selection, today the wine is same blend as the Reserve except it has been aged in barrel for a longer period of time. The grapes are not destemmed, and the natural yeast fermentation is completed in traditional, cement vats before ageing in old, French oak barrels for an average of 4 years. This extended ageing in old casks allows for an osmosis between the suppleness of the tannins and the spices of the old wood. On average, close to 650 cases are produced each vintage of Domaine du Pegau Cuvee Laurence.
Other Reviews....
Very muscular, meaty and gamey, with wonderful spicy complexity on the full-bodied and highly structured palate. This has terrific concentration and compact fine tannins at its core. Enormously dense at the monumental finish. Not easy to find the right words for all this. The blend is identical to this producer’s Cuvee Reservee, but is matured much longer in cask and was bottled in February 2024. Drink or hold.

Stuart Pigott - JamesSuckling.comTasted from bottle, the 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape Cuvée Laurence is heavenly stuff that tastes like the essence of Provence. Sporting a deeper ruby/plum hue as well as incredible notes of red and black fruits, new saddle leather, herbes de Provence, licorice, and God knows what else, these all carry to a full-bodied, powerful, unctuous effort that has tons of richness, sweet tannins, and a great finish. It reminds me of a great vintage from the late Henri Bonneau. It's ready to go today, yet I see no reason it shouldn't evolve gracefully over the coming 15+ years or more. Drink 2024 - 2040.
