Formed in 1966, Domaine du Bouchet is now owned by Antoine Gouffier who purchased the 10 hectare estate in 2019. Antoine is a native of Saint Andelain, though he spent years abroad gaining experience in the USA, New Zealand, Middle East, Argentina and notably in South Africa. Upon returning to France, he purchased the estate from Pascal Kerbiquet, a local figure who had made a name for himself working organically and with biodynamic farming. In very short time Antoine has risen to prominence, and in 2022 was named “Discovery of the Year 2022” by the French wine magazine La Revue du Vin de France.
While only displaying a slight blush of colour, Orange is very much the textural and complex delight these skin contact wines are famed for. Six months on skins has lent a generous degree of pithy bitter fruit notes with hints of spice and Campari to close. A very good example of the style.

If you like Campari or Negroni, you will love the 2021 Orange with its herbal character reminiscent of fennel and dill, plus a bitter twist thanks to six months of skin contact. It's fresh and firm with a phenolic grip, white pepper sprinkle and elderflower-like character on the pure finish. The 2021 is balanced and clean. Drink 2023-2026.

From the “normal white” color in the glass, you might not guess that this was an orange wine, but once you start on it you’ll get it. Concentrated bead of red-peach and spicy flavors and plenty of drive though the medium-bodied palate. Structured and slightly tannic, as befits the category. From biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification. Lots of character. Hard not to like this. Enjoy now.

A collaborative effort from Buffalo Trace Distillery, 'Traveller' brings together the collective artistry of 10X Grammy award-winning artist, Chris Stapleton and Buffalo Trace Distillery Master Distiller, Harlen Wheatley. Over fifty blends were sampled before making Blend No.40 the chosen combination. Little is known about the whiskey, what it's composed of, and whether or not any of the whiskey within the blend was even distilled at Buffalo Trace. However, Sazerac has confirmed that it contains 0% grain neutral spirits and has also stated it is a completely unique combination of whiskeys hand selected from multiple distilleries. 45% Alc./Vol.

Don Fulano Tequila is the fruit of five generations of agave growers and a distilling heritage that brings together the Highlands of Jalisco and the Valleys of Tequila. Today the Fonseca family are not only respected farmers – they also run La Tequileña, one of the highest-rated and most awarded of Jalisco's distilleries. It is also the last family-owned operation that is 100% self-sufficient in agave supply, allowing them to control the quality of their tequila from farm to bottle. They introduced the Don Fulano brand back in 2002. Says Lance Cutler, California-based Author and Winemaker, “Fonseca consistently creates tequilas rich with agave character yet graced with a delicate finish. His penchant for long-term barrel aging allows him to blend in ways never before seen in tequila production. In effect, Fonseca has created an entirely new class of tequila.”
Don Fulano's Blanco is rested for six months in stainless steel before bottling. Otherwise it’s mild and approachable, one of the gentlest blanco tequilas I can recall nosing in years. The Ambonnay based Egly-Ouriet are a reference point for grower producers in Champagne, known for their impeccable vineyard management and fastidious winemaking skills. Much of their production is raised in oak barrels, with extended aging on lees a feature. As usual with Francis Egly's millesime, the blend is 70% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay from the same 40-year-old vines in Ambonnay, aged in barrel until bottling.

The 2015 Champagne Millésime is a bright straw color and is ripe and fruity on the nose, with aromas of black cherries, fresh violets, savory saline, and a hint of umami richness. The palate is full-bodied, with no phenolic bitterness, and never feels overtly savory. Pure, juicy, and inviting, it’s lovely and long on the palate, with a very pretty finish and a refined mousse that just frames the wine. It has a delicate note of toast that it needs time to harmonize, but I love what they have done with this vintage. Drink 2025-2045.

Olivier Leflaive was co-manager of Domaine Leflaive until 1994 before withdrawing to concentrate on his own venture which he started in 1985. Today the domaine produces wine from some 65 appellations with 85% of the production being white wine. One of Burgundy’s most respected producers the estate produces a number of domaine wines from its own vineyards alongside its range of negocé bottlings. The wines are made by Franck Grux and the theme in their wines is elegance and finesse rather than power with restrained use of oak and great purity of fruit.
Brilliant pale straw colour with a subtle greenish tint around the edges and a watery hue. Delightful white peach and dried honey aromas are intertwined with citrus, subtle roasted almond, nougat and gun flint notes. Elegant and fresh yet nicely fleshed across the mid weighted palate, white peach, citrus and dried honey flavours are featured over subtle nougat and infusions of gun flint. Energetic acidity with a brisk, refined feel to what is otherwise a gently creamed and long finish.

Fruit was sourced from the best two blocks of Chardonnay on West Cape Howe’s Langton vineyard and is barrel fermented (approximately 40% new) in oak with no malolactic fermentation.
Bright straw colour with greenish tinged edges and a watery hue. Nosing offers up scents of nectarine, citrus and bees wax which have a delicate toast overlay. Some lemon butter and spice notes are also evident. Medium bodied and creamy textured, nectarine, pear and citrus flavours are melded to lemon butter, dried honey, cashew and spicy nougat elements. Good freshness finishing full and texturally rounded.

Fresh and textural it finishes dry with crisp acidity and a long mouth watering aftertaste.

Aberlour’s cask strength A’bunadh has long been a darling of single malt aficionados, released in batches, each varies in proof and flavour as proportions of older or younger material make the cut, but the brief remains the same: Make a 100% ex-oloroso sherry aged malt using the inventory at hand (anywhere from 5 to 25 years old). Keep it natural, which means zero chill filtration, keep it balanced and keep it affordable. No information about the number of bottles from each batch of A’bunadh is offered, but they're large outturns for a global community, which makes for a significant blending challenge. That hasn't stopped collectors and fans of sherried malts from stocking up on those that are deemed better than others. With or without water, whichever way you like it, A'bunadh is worth checking out as you encounter it, at least so long as value remains Pernod-Ricard's priority.

This Super Tuscan was first produced in 1985 and is made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Merlot and Sangiovese grapes with maturation taking place in French oak barriques (60% new) for a period of 18 months.

Alluring aromas of blackcurrant, dark cherry and subtle liquorice infiltrate the olfactory senses complimented by hints of tobacco, vanillin cedar, dried herb and spicy earth notes. Rich and concentrated yet polished and refined the palate is flooded with fleshy blackcurrant, dark cherry and liquorice fruits which are framed by firm, muscular yet integrated tannins. Vanillin cedar, earthy tobacco, dried herb, black olive and spice elements lurk underneath. Outstanding in its power, it finishes very long and deeply fruited with a robust feel.

Here the tequila takes on a stronger nose of fruit tones, evoking baked apples with a more forceful cinnamon element, with maple underpinning that still-present vanilla character and a considerably lighter green agave element. It’s not quite candylike either on nose or palate, but it’s definitely on the sweet side, and the palate presents a stronger note of caramel-covered apples, shortbread cookies, all dashed with vanilla. Domaine du Pegau Reserve is produced from 85% Grenache, 9% Syrah and 4% Mourvedre, Counoise and other varieties. The grapes are not destemmed, and the natural yeast fermentation is completed in traditional, cement vats before ageing an average of 24 months in old foudres.

Boasting enormous levels of richness, power and concentration, the monumental palate is saturated with black raspberry, liquorice and black cherry liqueur like flavours. A firm robust tannin structure holds everything in place whilst notions of scorched earth, infusions of herbs du Provence, leather and peppered meats unwind across the back half. Incredibly dense and chiselled, it finishes exceptionally long and sumptuous with a firm grip.

A cuvee of 80% grenache, 6% syrah, 4% mourvedre and 10% other traditional grape varieties. Matured for two years in large, neutral oak. Drinkable now, but best from 2027.

Beautiful stuff and one of the gems in the vintage, the 2022 Châteauneuf Du Pape Cuvée Réservée shows ripe black cherries, scorched earth, sandalwood, and incredibly peppery garrigue and spice. It's medium to full-bodied on the palate and has a pure, focused, concentrated mouthfeel, ripe tannins, and a great finish. It's a serious, classic Pegau that has so much to love and will shine for another 40 years in cold cellars. It reminds me of the 2015. Drink 2025-2065. Drink 2025 - 2065.

While previously Cuvee Laurence was made from a specific barrel selection, today the wine is same blend as the Reserve except it has been aged in barrel for a longer period of time. The grapes are not destemmed, and the natural yeast fermentation is completed in traditional, cement vats before ageing in old, French oak barrels for an average of 4 years. This extended ageing in old casks allows for an osmosis between the suppleness of the tannins and the spices of the old wood. On average, close to 650 cases are produced each vintage of Domaine du Pegau Cuvee Laurence.

Very muscular, meaty and gamey, with wonderful spicy complexity on the full-bodied and highly structured palate. This has terrific concentration and compact fine tannins at its core. Enormously dense at the monumental finish. Not easy to find the right words for all this. The blend is identical to this producer’s Cuvee Reservee, but is matured much longer in cask and was bottled in February 2024. Drink or hold.

Tasted from bottle, the 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape Cuvée Laurence is heavenly stuff that tastes like the essence of Provence. Sporting a deeper ruby/plum hue as well as incredible notes of red and black fruits, new saddle leather, herbes de Provence, licorice, and God knows what else, these all carry to a full-bodied, powerful, unctuous effort that has tons of richness, sweet tannins, and a great finish. It reminds me of a great vintage from the late Henri Bonneau. It's ready to go today, yet I see no reason it shouldn't evolve gracefully over the coming 15+ years or more. Drink 2024 - 2040.

A dense, well-structured and focus Cotes-du-Rhone Villages with aromas of dark berries, grilled meat, stones and wild herbs with some baking spices. Medium-bodied with chalky tannins. Textural and slightly chewy on the palate, with focus and a serious character. Well built with a firm finish. 60% grenache, 20% syrah and 20% mourvedre. Drink or hold.

The 2022 Côtes Du Rhône Villages Cuvee Setier checks in as 60% Grenache and 20% each Syrah and Mourvèdre. It's a slightly more concentrated, richer wine than the Côtes Du Rhône and has a beautiful sense of purity in its smoky black fruits, ground pepper, and crushed stone. Rich, tannic, medium-bodied, and concentrated, it’s going to need a year or two.

Rich and exuberantly fruited with muscular tannins and a long chewy conclusion.

A blend of 60% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Mourvedre and 10% Cinsault. Deep dark red black tinged colour with a dark red hue. Intense black cherry, liquorice and blackberry aromas waft from the glass followed by some black raspberry, scorched earth and peppered dried herb notes. Rich exuberant black raspberry, liquorice and black cherry fruits fully encompass the mouth. Superb concentration and power with the wonderfully deep fruit profile framed by muscular tannins. Infusions of herbs du Provence, scorched earth and peppered meats the undercard. Concludes long, opulent and chewy.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.

I loved the 2022 Côtes Du Rhône Cuvée Maclura, which would be one heck of a great house red. Spicy red and black fruits, peppery garrigue, leather, and herbes de Provence all give way to a medium-bodied, supple, nicely textured, savory, focused red that’s absolutely loaded with character.

A blend of 85% Sangiovese and 15% Merlot/Canaiolo aged in stainless steel and large barrels for 3 months. Dark red core with black shaded edges and a red to dark red hue. Nosing offers up earthy morello and dark cherry, dried herb, tobacco as well as spice notes. Medium bodied the palate has a rustic feel to it with dark cherry and morello cherry fruits overlaying an earthy back drop of dried herbs and spice. Slightly chalky tannins and bright acidity with a dryish, touch grippy finish.
