34.2/32.7/28.4/1.6/1.6/1.5% grenache/shiraz/mataro/carignan/counoise/cinsault – a right old "fruit salad" blend this year. I really hope that adds up to one hundred. Pretty sure it does. You don't need all those numbers in your head, though. You only need to know this is a crunchy, very easy to drink, contemporary red blend; mid-weighted, pure and lively with raspberry top notes and a lot to like. Super value here. Drink by 2030.

Well if you are looking for a proper Rosé for this Spring and Summer then look no further than this super, bone dry style which you can enjoy by the gallon. Pale onion skin pink but not pale in style as it delivers elegant yet piercing aromas of warm watermelon and cranberry with powdery dusted spice complexity – fennel seed with touches of paprika. The best part is the palate with excellent volume of flavour which it holds and holds and holds with subtle complexity over an extended finish with a little twist of tannins adding depth. Most Bandol Rosé wishes it was this good. Drink 2024-2026.

Angus Hughson – WinePilot.com - 2022 Francois Mikulski Volnay Santenots du Milieu Premier CruBurgundy, FRANCE$390. 00Bottle$4680.00 DozenABV: 13.5%Closure: Cork
François Mikulski has quietly earned a place among Meursault’s most respected producers, known for wines that prioritise purity, energy, and mineral precision. His focus is on clarity and freshness across the board — whether it’s Aligoté or Premier Cru — with élevage and viticulture carefully tuned to preserve site and structure. Stylistically, the wines lean toward the racy, tensile end of the Meursault spectrum, in the vein of Roulot or Carillon. They’re built to age, but always with a drink-now brightness that keeps you coming back for another glass.
Other Reviews....
Here the more restrained nose is both riper and spicier with its aromas of poached plum, violet and liqueur-like dark pinot fruit scents. The rich, succulent and sappy medium weight flavors possess a seductive mouthfeel before culminating in a dusty, youthfully austere and solidly powerful finale. This could use more depth but like all competent examples of Santenots, this should easily repay 10+ years of keeping during which more depth should develop. Drink through 2032+.

2018 Royal Tokaji Blue Label 5 Puttonyos Aszu (500ml)Tokaji, HUNGARY$99. 99Bottle$1199.88 DozenABV: 11.5%Closure: CorkTokaji Aszú is a noble sweet wine made by blending dried and noble rotten berries to a dry base wine. Taste and quality of the Aszú mainly depend on the number of hods (puttonyos) filled with dry berries (25 kilograms each), which are added to a cask (Gönc type, 136 liters) of dry base wine. Consequently, the proportion between aszú berries and dry base wine is about 1:1 for a 6 puttonyos Aszú. Aszú Eszencia is made with the same process, and is a classification above 6 puttonyos where the ratio of noble dry berries to wine is more akin to 7-10 puttonyos. This is not to be confused with Tokaji Essencia which is a fermentation of just the free run juice of the dried noble berries as they rest in the vat.

This is a rare opportunity to acquire one of Australia’s greatest Shiraz in magnum format at a bargain basement price with over 20 years of bottle age behind it. Priced at or below most vintages of Penfolds Grange in 750ml format, this is a once off offer that can never be repeated."Frankly, along with Penfold's Grange, this may be the greatest Shiraz being made in Australia." - Robert Parker
Impenetrable pitch black heart with a very dark red hue. Hedonistically scented, sent wafting from the glass are dark plum, liquorice and blackberry aromas which are complimented by leather, vanillin cedar, earthy dark chocolate and spice notes. Rich, silky and super intense, the seductive palate is saturated with voluptuous waves of aniseed, blackberry and dark plum which gradually evolve into a leather, dusty vanillin cedar, black olive and pepper back drop. Exceptionally powerful and expansive it possesses cashmere like tannins and finishes tremendously long and plush. Tasted from a 750ml bottle we expect the magnums to look even more impressive and show less development.

It’s hard to believe the 2003 Syrah Astralis Vineyard could be better, but it offers riveting richness, intensity, purity, and equilibrium. Structurally, it is similar to the Piggott Range, revealing abundant amounts of sweet, ripe tannin, and huge extract, richness, and depth. Meant for true connoisseurs who are willing to forget it for 5-8 years, it represents what Roman Bratasiuk and Clarendon Hills do so well ... show respect for the great traditions of France, but recognize the extraordinary raw materials that emerge from old vines planted in McLaren Vale. This fabulous wine offers both power and elegance, and showcases the extraordinary talent of Roman Bratasiuk. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2030.

2022 Yeringberg Marsanne RoussanneYarra Valley, Victoria, AUSTRALIA$74. 99Bottle$899.88 DozenABV: 13%Closure: StelvinSavoury and floral, with quince and sandalwood, this Rhône-style blend is lively and textured.
Yeringberg is a historic Yarra Valley estate, first established in 1863 and now under the stewardship of the fifth generation of the de Pury family. Once one of the region’s most celebrated vineyards, production ceased in 1921 before being revived by Guill and Katherine de Pury in 1969. Today, winemaker Sandra de Pury leads the winery, working alongside her brother David who manages the vineyard. With some of the oldest vines in the Yarra Valley, Yeringberg continues to produce elegant, age-worthy wines that reflect both heritage and thoughtful custodianship.
Yeringberg’s 2022 Marsanne Roussanne is a beautifully composed white blend of 61% Marsanne and 39% Roussanne, sourced from old vines planted in 1973 and 1983 respectively. A low-yielding vintage yielded small volumes of intensely flavoured fruit, handpicked and co-fermented before ageing in old oak to preserve purity and freshness. The result is a wine of quiet complexity and savoury elegance, with lifted aromas of honeysuckle, jasmine and orange blossom layered over quince, pear skin and sandalwood. The palate is finely textured, lively and food-friendly, with the hallmark breadth and power of this classic Rhône-inspired blend.

A blend of 60/40% marsanne/roussanne, picked three days apart, fermented together in tank, then aged in old barrels for 10 months. A bright green gold. Aromas of ripe pears and apricots sit alongside some lemon conserve, pink grapefruit and orange blossom scents. It's a compelling mix that flows through onto the palate, which is gently textured, saline, and very well structured. I really like the touch of the grip on the finish too, and as good as this is now, this will age gracefully over the next five to seven years at least. Drink 2024 - 2028.

A complex golden wine that’s nutty and saline, and often puts me in mind of Cornflakes, though maybe that’s just me. I’m quite fond of them too, especially with some good honey on top. Once a famed vineyard in the 19th century, the demise of fine table wines saw production cease in 1921. Comprising around 80% Marsanne fermented on skins for up to 21 days and 20% whole-bunch pressed Roussanne, the wine was matured in old oak for 10 months before bottling in February 2024. Golden in hue, it opens with aromas of honeysuckle, orange blossom and apricot. The palate is lively and textured, with a spicy, nutty richness and distinctive phenolics—thanks to the extended skin contact—that recall fine black tea. A vibrant and expressive new chapter for Yeringberg.

80/20% marsanne/roussanne and a new wine made from young vines. Bright gold with green tinges. An opulent and attractive melange of apricot, peach and orange blossom. The medium-bodied palate is fleshy and flavoursome, balanced by soft acidity and a refreshing touch of grip on the finish. Drink 2025 - 2027.

Philip Rich - Halliday's Australian Wine CompanionWonderfully aromatic and floral, giving notes of apricots, lavender, peaches and chamomile tea. The palate is full-bodied with a really phenolic and textural mouthfeel from 10 days of skin contact, showing notes of nectarines and honeysuckle. Unique and very interesting wine made from a young-vine blend of 80% marsanne and 20% roussanne. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

2024 William Downie Mornington Peninsula Pinot NoirMornington Peninsula, Victoria, AUSTRALIA$59. 99Bottle$719.88 DozenCellar: Drink now - 8 Years (2025-2033)ABV: 13.5%Closure: Diam CorkLight and energetic with delicious red fruits and a long, elegant finish.

Downie is known for his meticulous vineyard work and dedication to expressing place through Pinot Noir.
Fruit for the Mornington Pinot Noir is sourced from two sites planted in 1998: Mrs Nicks Vineyard in Balnarring, with MV6 on south-facing sandy loam, and Rivendel in Merricks North, home to D5V12 and Pommard clones on grey loam.Slightly cloudy red to dark red colour with a vibrant red hue. Fragrant violet, sour to red cherry and strawberry scents delicately infused with clove flourish through the nostrils trailed by some fresh herb, earth and spice notes. Delicious red cherry, bright red raspberry and winter strawberry fruits are underscored by lively acidity. Infusions of fresh herbs, light earth and spicy clove are also apparent. Light on its feet and energetic in its feel, it possesses excellent power and polished tannins. Finishes long, fresh and elegant.

One thing appealing with the pinots from Bill Downie is that they are immediately drinkable and deliciously so. Another difficult vintage on the Peninsula but this has a balance of aromas, flavours and texture. Dark red cherries, blood orange and zest with sumac and brown spices plus fresh herbs and a pinch of Italian bitter herbs, too. It’s a savoury wine. Tannins and acidity work in tandem to add definition across the mid-weighted palate. Drink by 2035.

What a wine. Everything has come together harmoniously – the enticing aromas all spicy, floral and earthy, the flavours all juicy cherries and exotic spices with blood orange acidity. The tannins are beautiful, shapely and supple yet oh-so fine and the acid just teases out the finish to linger long. Lovely drink here folks. Alas, will sell out in a flash – be quick. Drink by 2036.

Almost shy at first, a flutter of mint and herbs, florals and spice, not much, all hinting at what’s to come. Mid-weighted, the palate strewn with dark fruit and spice, a slight green edge coming through – almost a mix of charred radicchio and green peppercorn, but not too much, so it does blend back into the wine. There’s a lot to enjoy but it will be even better in another year or so. Drink by 2033.

Jane Faulkner – James Halliday’s Australian Wine CompanionFragrant, dark-fruit aromas of blackberries, cherries and licorice with earth and graphite. The palate is finely tuned with a medium-bodied mouthfeel, supple tannins and a bright acidity that leads into a mouthwatering, energetic palate. Seamless structure. The impressive level of sophistication here would hold up in any old-world lineup. Excellent. Drink or hold.

2023 Domaine des Hates Petit ChablisChablis, FRANCE$49. 99Bottle$599.88 DozenCellar: Drink now - 4 Years (2025-2029)ABV: 12.5%Closure: StelvinConcentrated and gorgeously shaped with brisk acidity and a saline like minerality.
Located in the north-west sector of Chablis in the village of Maligny, Pierrick Laroche runs this family estate which was established by his father in the 1970s. After getting a degree in oenology from Beaune, Patrick travelled the world, doing various internships to gain experience before returning home to start making wine and take over the family vineyards for himself. In 2010 he ceased selling grapes to the local co-operative and produced his first vintage to great acclaim.
The domain has nearly 12ha of Petit Chablis, classified as such because the limestone tends to be the younger Portlandian rather than the older Kimmeridgian, and as such typically occupies higher sites (Portlandian overlies Kimmeridgian) and has less clay. Pierrick is convinced that his largest parcel of Petit really ought to be classed as Chablis; it makes wine like Chablis and indeed is surrounded by AOC Chablis vines.
Brilliant pale straw colour with a faint greenish tinge around the outskirts and a watery hue. Attractive pear and lime scents laced with wet stone and an oyster shell like minerality drift through the nostrils with ample volume. Delicious pear and lime fruits are delivered with excellent concentration and carry a beautifully rounded river stone like feel. Wet stone, oyster shell, subtle infusions of fresh herbs and a saline like minerality linger underneath. Brisk acidity finishing long and shapely.

Loaded Barrel Small Batch Series Wheat & Single Malt Australian Whisky (500ml)Melbourne, Victoria, AUSTRALIAReduced from $99.99$89. 99Bottle$1079.88 DozenABV: 46.2%What some might call a double-malt, this limited release forms part of the distillery's new Small Batch Series. Contrasting deep virgin-oak driven flavour with the fruitiness of malted wheat and barley, the style bridges the bourbon and single malt category; sweet and soft like classic wheated styles (think Weller), but heavier and richer with the malt adding body and texture, it’s hard to tell where the grains end and the oak begins. Creamy flavours of muesli, vanilla, sticky date and milk chocolate are beautifully meshed alongside budding fruitiness. If you're looking for a delicious, seductive end-of-the-night sipper, this ticks all the boxes, however it's best over ice or left uncut. Minimal dilution quickly thins out the flavours. Batch No. 001 weighs in at 46.2% Alc./Vol.
Notes from the producers... On the nose it’s vanilla, and banana. On the tongue it’s orchard fruits, followed by hint of banana again, all wrapped in our signature virgin American oak flavours - toffee and vanilla bean.

Notes from the producers... Colour: gold with copper reflections. Nose: rich layers of stewed red berries, figs, raisins, sweet barbecue sauce, cinnamon, jam. Palate: marmalade, strawberries, cranberries, smoked meat, leather, wood, oak and thick smoke. Finish: ash, charcoal and red fruit sweetness linger, wood, spice and tobacco.
- Le Gin de Christian Drouin Pira Gin (700ml)Normandy, FRANCE$109. 99Bottle$1319.88 DozenABV: 42%
Pira is made according to the same principles as the original version of Guillaume Drouin's Le Gin; each botanical is macerated and re-distilled separately in order to optimise the extraction of aromas. The Perry pear takes centre stage in this edition, along with juniper, vanilla, lemon, black pepper and Iris root. A small pear with a subtle aroma combining acidity and tannins, it is the other emblematic fruit of Normandy. In the Pays d'Auge, pear trees are generally planted on the edge of apple orchards. These long-lived and quite large trees can reach more than 15 metres high, with deep roots, forming excellent windbreaks for more fragile apple orchards.
Pira gin offers aromas and flavours of white fruits, black pepper and iris and can be enjoyed neat or as a gin and tonic, with a thin slice of pear or elderflower as a garnish. 42% Alc./Vol.
- Papalin Haiti 4 Year Old Vatted Rum (700ml)HAITI$159. 99Bottle$1919.88 DozenABV: 53.1%
Conceived by Velier's Luca Gargano, the Papalin project is dedicated to Caribbean styles of yesteryear, though specifically to rums of the late 1800s when Jamaican traders began to create blends from different distilleries. Myers’s and John Wray Nephew are two famous historical examples. In addition to exporting rums to Europe, they also produced their own blends, never specifying their origins. In the last seventy years an increasing number of European brands surfaced, then in the 1970s, distilleries began selling their own products. In light of all these changes, Papalin marks a return to the ancient tradition of rum blending, now with a transparency that will be welcomed by rum purists.
The label's first release was dedicated to Jamaica. The spotlight now shifts to Haiti, with a rum distilled from sugar cane juice, sourced from five different distilleries: Sajous, Vaval, Casimir, Distillerie de Port-au-Prince and Le Rocher. A total of 32 selected casks made the cut, all entirely aged in the tropical climate, with maturations taking place in ex-cognac, ex-bourbon and ex-whisky barrels. Technically, this is classified as a vatted rum. It's considered a versatile, accessible introduction to Clairin. 6000 bottles are available globally, and despite being young, its intriguing character has surprised many seasoned tasters. 53.1% Alc./Vol.

2019 Providence Ex-Caroni Casks 3 Year Old Haitian Pure Single Rum (700ml)HAITI$189. 99Bottle$2279.88 DozenABV: 52%Reported to be a collaboration between the Linge family of Berling, direct descendants of a famous Haitian rum dynasty (Barbancourt), and La Maison & Velier, Providence represents the first aged rum of the Distillerie de Port-au-Prince. Based on traditional methods, it's produced using syrup from an ancestral Cristalline sugar cane variety from the fields of Michel Sajous, located in Saint-Michel de l’Attalaye, 150 kilometers north of the capital. Fermentation is carried out using selected yeasts and dunder from previous distillations, allowing for the development of impressive aromatic complexity. The must obtained after fermentation is distilled in two stages in a copper still, heated in a bain-marie, designed by German boilermaker Muller. The final distillate was matured exclusively in ex-Caroni rum casks for three years and then reduced to 52% before bottling. The aroma is intense, sweet yet breezy with a frail dried fruit character similar to some sherried single malts. The palate has a striking purity and naturalness. Creamy-yet-fresh, with suggestions of tropical fruits and rock candy countered by caney / grassy notes that become a signature flourish. Fades with gentle gingery warmth and a lick of fruit. A relaxed, medium-bodied and very accessible example of unadulterated high-strength rum, dangerously drinkable uncut! 52% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.
Other reviews... This was the odd one out and also a huge surprise. Considering the price tag you get a lot for your money. I found out that it needed to rest for at least 15 minutes and at 30 minutes the flavours just come at you. Intense and fruity with nice spices and cane. I really like the floral note from nose to finish and even the empty glass was wonderful after a while. - Kevin Sorensen, Rum-x.com
Notes from the producers... Nose: Rich and concentrated. Camphor, powdery, mimosa, cane sugar, vanilla, lime blossom and flambeed banana. Palate: Lively and distinguished. Fresh cane juice, lemon, resin, roasted pineapple, ginger and cinnamon. Finish: Long and silky. Rose petals, oriental notes, pastry cream, praline, tobacco, coffee and medicinal notes.

The first Yarra Valley Pinot from Munda comes from a mix of red-brown clay, deep red volcanic soils, and granite. It is a wine with an alluring and well-composed nose: crunchy cranberries, polished red cherries, wild violets and some lovely vanilla, musk stick, a touch of cardamom, and cedar. The palate is juicy and, once again, well composed on its fruit and oak profile. More apparent is that the blood orange and earthy character, with elegant, granular tannins, giving a texture that reminds me of a chestnut. This is a stunning Riesling and amazing value. It might sound like the proverbial broken record but anyone claiming to like Riesling who is not buying, drinking and cellaring these is not serious. Rob Diletti sees this as his flagship. The fruit is all from the estate, from six different blocks, aged between two and four decades. Only the first press of 450 litres/tonne is used here. A bright lemon hue, it is leaner and more elegant than the Skywalk, as expected, with notes of florals, oystershells, citrus including fresh lime and grapefruit pith, and a line of saline acidity. Focus and length are present. This is easily a ten to twenty year proposition. A wonderful Riesling and one which is must-have value. Drink 2024-2044.

It’s nervy, energising and still finding its groove. It pulses, with vibrant acidity taking the lead over everything, although there’s still lemon and grapefruit flavours, spicy oak and superfine gossamer-like nutty lees. In another year, this will be more compelling. Drink by 2033.

Jane Faulkner – James Halliday’s Australian Wine CompanionThe 2023 Chardonnay hails from a mild to cool (and dry) season in Margaret River, one that, by all accounts, will be a superb vintage for Chardonnay. On the nose here, the wine leads with lemon butter and white peach, nashi pear and green apple, with brine, cashew nuts and spring flowers. The acidity in the mouth is typically intense in young Xanadu Chardonnay—part of the legacy of the house style that eschews malolactic fermentation—and so it presents as I would expect it to, in a season already imbued with zesty natural acids. There is plenty of race and pace in this wine, but there is some creaminess, too. It will be better in a few years, I believe, although much of this cuvée will be purchased and consumed early. 12.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap. Drink 2026-2035.

Erin Larkin – Robert Parker’s The Wine AdvocateThe nose is very focused and mineral-driven, with aromas of lemon peel, gun smoke, white peaches and sea spray. The palate is medium-bodied with focused acidity and a generous texture, giving notes of grapefruit pith, salt brine and green papayas. A very minerally and steely structure that will soften nicely in the years to come. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

The Detailed review: Dark red core with black toned edges and a red tinged hue. Sailing out of the glass with a perfumed like intensity are aromas of violet, red to dark cherry and wild strawberry trailed by some fresh herb, delicate forest floor and light brambly cedar notes. Extending across the palate with ample power and a supple feel are delicious red to dark cherry and wild strawberry fruits. Subtle earth, infusions of fresh herbs and spicy cedar lie underneath. Polished tannins and lively acidity with a juicy yet refined finish.
