2022 Il Marroneto Ignaccio Rosso di Montalcino
Il Marroneto produce some of the purest and most perfumed expressions of Sangiovese made anywhere. Part of the secret lies in their prime location within Brunello's traditional top class territory, situated at 450m above sea level with a cool northern exposure. Combined with the much lauded talents of gifted winemaker Alessandro Mori, and it's clear to see why Il Marroneto are so highly coveted by Brunello fans worldwide.
Alessandro Mori has always adopted a traditional approach, aiming for elegance and purity, without sacrificing depth or impact in his wines. Organic practices have been used in the vineyards since 1988, while natural fermentation occurs and there is neither fining nor filtration before bottling.
Other Reviews....
Alessandro Mori did not have a Rosso vineyard, so he cobbled together vines from declassified Brunello and leased land (measuring 7,000 square meters) to provide the fruit for this wine. The Il Marroneto 2022 Rosso di Montalcino Ignaccio is underlined by brightness and freshness with forest berry fruits, blue flower and navel orange. Harvest in 2022 started early on September 20th, compared to September 24th in 2020 and much later in 2019 on October 5th. Drink 2025-2038.

Monica Larner - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2022 Rosso di Montalcino Ignaccio is exotic with a seductive blend of spiced blood orange, wild strawberries, rose petals and a dusting of spice. Juicy and vividly fresh, it sweeps across the palate with ripe raspberry and cherry-berry fruits while taking on a coating of chalky minerality toward the close. Sour citrus enlivens the experience as this finishes long and staining yet still remarkably fresh. The mouth waters for more under an air of violet inner florals. Simply spellbinding. This is already a total pleasure, yet it has the balance for short-term cellaring. Due to the changes in the Rosso di Montalcino regulations, Il Marroneto will be able to use another hectare, originally planted for IGT Sangiovese, in their Rosso in the coming vintages, which means more of this glorious juice to go around. Drink 2024-2032.

A scented red full of intoxicating aromas of sweet violets, cinnamon, smoke, woodland, slate, minerals and orange peel. Crisp, exuberant acidity on the palate with velvety tannins and a chalky, medium- to full-bodied and polished finish. Drink or hold.

A really perfumed, floral expression of Sangiovese, with plenty of lavender, violet and garrigue. Grippy and dusty tannins clamp the palate, with the promise of some delicious juiciness in time. Sturdy yet finessed, earthy wild berries and pomegranate mingle with bitter herbs and spice, then a fresh, saline finish with glimpses of spice and blood orange. Drink 2025-2030.
