Beautifully perfumed, it has lots of lychee, tangerine, citrus and salty minerality to go with a medium-bodied, fresh, lively feel on the palate. This gains depth and texture with time in the glass, and will be versatile on the dinner table. It should be another awesome value from this team, and drink well for 1-2 years.

Produced from Marsanne, part of the fermentation is carried out in stainless steel tanks and part in demi-muids. The lees are stirred for the first 2-3 months adding texture to the wine. Approximately 50-60% of the wine is aged in stainless steel tanks with the balance aged in demi-muids of which 10% are new and 90% older oak.

Brilliant pale straw colour with greenish tinged edges and a watery hue. Aromas of peaches, light apricot and honeysuckle slowly build intensity as they sit in the glass. Traces of cinnamon and spice are also evident. Rich, luscious peach, ripe apricot and honeycomb flavours have a round creamy textural feel over a back drop of subtle toast, ginger and spiced almonds. Finishes dry with a good amount of freshness and a lengthy aftertaste.
    Cellar 5-6 years.

Slightly fresher than the 2016, the 2017 Hermitage Chante-Alouette Blanc offers a beautiful bouquet of white flowers, citrus blossom, green almonds, and hints of tangerine. It's vibrant, medium to full-bodied, fresh, and crisp on the palate, with terrific purity as well as building richness. Brought up in 65% demi-muids, with the balance in stainless steel, it’s a classic, impeccably made Hermitage Blanc that will keep for 15+ years.

The Magrez-Fombrauge 2016 Blanc is a blend of 60% Sauvignon Blanc, 20% Sauvignon Gris and 20% Sémillon. Now this has a slightly reduced nose that actually works well, that struck match note complementing the light tropical fruit. The palate is fresh and vibrant on the entry with a fine line of acidity, quite minerally and tensile with a bright, vivid, orange zest and lime finish. I much prefer this to its red counterpart to be quite honest and it will drink well for a decade or more.

The 2016 Magrez-Fombrauge Blanc opens with bright, slightly reductive notes. Orchard fruit, slate, mint and pear add to the wine's crystalline, tense personality. The Sauvignon Blanc and Gris are quite expressive in this tightly wound white from Bernard Magrez.

An Outstanding rich full bodied Alsatian styled Pinot Gris.

Bright straw colour with pale straw hue. Intoxicating aromas of ripe pear, honeycomb, musk and tropical fruits bound from the glass followed by some spice end notes. The fruit was picked late in the season with a small amount of noble botrytis, and together with lees aging has further enhanced the wines mouthfeel and complexity. Rich and luscious the palate features a mouthfilling flavour profile of ripe pear, musk, tropical fruits and spicy honeycomb finishing medium dry with some residual sugar present. Thick oily mouthfeel. Excellent length with a long powerful aftertaste of ripe pear, lychee, musk, honeycomb and spice.

The Savoie region is nestled within the French Alps, not far from Chambéry. Once one powerful wine region with 20,000 hectares planted on the complex slopes of the mountain, it's now a small region, totalling 3,000 hectares. Most of the vineyards have been replanted on the flat, where the machines can find their way but not the quality. However, in 1998, one very special slope called "Coteau de Cevins" abandoned for decades was brought back to life by the Mayor of the area Denis Perroux and Michel Grisard, one of the pioneers of biodynamics in Savoie. The "Coteau de Cevins" once produced some of the most exciting wines of France.

The Coteau de Cevins was replanted in 1998 with the original, very qualitative vines of Persan and Mondeuse noire (red) as well as Altesse, Roussanne , Mondeuse blanche, Malvoisie et Jacquère (white). The slope reaches 60% of inclination, and the vines are planted on terrasses of very old, complex mica schists, loam and sand. With 8,000 vines planted per hectare and 25 hectolitres per hectare produced, it is the Grand Cru hill of Savoie! Out of this magnificent hill, three wines are produced, called Quartz, Schiste and Améthyste. The first real crop was harvested in 2002. In 2005, Brice Omont was appointed wine grower and director of Domaine des Ardoisières, to pursue the work Michel Grisard had started.

In addition to the Coteau de Cevins, Brice Omont started to rent a vineyard on the Coteau de St Pierre de Soucy in 2008 in order to produce wines from clay and limestone soils and schist. The two Cuvée Argile white and red were born. In 2015, Brice Omont started to rent another vineyard of great quality Jacquère to produce Silice, a highly addictive cuvée of white alpine wine.

Silice is 100% Jacquere planted on schist and clay that yields as a plush and mineral white wine that is incredibly light on its feet for an expression that has such intensity of flavor and texture. Expect ripe orchard fruit with just a touch of white peach enlivened by crushed stone and almond flowers. Equally at home with cheese or on its own, this is a compelling bottle of wine that speaks of its alpine origin.

Winemaker Pierrick Laroche currently sells off much of what he produces to Negociants, holding back an increasing volume of fruit each year to produce his own wines. The premier cru Beauroy is a new addition to his range. The wines are mostly raised in steel (a small amount of wood is used for the top wines), undergo full malolactic, and rest on their lees throughout their élevage.
Brilliant pale straw colour with a glimmer of green around the edges and a watery hue. Nosing offers up aromas of pear, lime and light dried honey which meld into slate, oyster shell and subtle gun flint like notes. Rich, vivid and delightfully textured, delicious pear, lime and dried honey flavours are layered across the palate with wet slate, subtle oyster shell and flinty mineral characters lying underneath. Lively acidity lends plenty of freshness to the finish which is long and slatey.

Madame Lalou Bize-Leroy started out as a négociant working for Maison Leroy, which was founded in Auxey-Duresses in 1868 by her great grandfather, François. Since then, her fame has spread right across the world of fine wine as part-owner and former co-director of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. She is also the formidable driving force behind Domaine Leroy and Domaine d'Auvenay, this latter her personal domain based in Saint-Romain. In 2015 she celebrated her 50th vintage of choosing the wines for the family négociant business, and continues to show the prowess and judgment that earned her the moniker "Guardian of Great Wines".

Maison Leroy is a central part of the Leroy portfolio providing a wealth of wines hand-selected by Madame Lalou Bize-Leroy herself. Her lifetime of experience as a winemaker producing wines from almost every appellation in the Côte d'Or makes her one of the most experienced vignerons and tasters in the region. Lalou selects the Maison wines by blind tasting hundreds of wines each year and selecting from the top wines presented. She does this with no ties or obligations to buy from growers, allowing her to select wines purely based on quality. It is well known that she pays a premium for the wines she chooses, to allow herself to cherry-pick the greatest expressions of each terroir. She stakes her considerable reputation on her expert palate and market knowledge, selecting all the Maison’s out-turn entirely from what she has tasted. Following the initial selection process the wines are then aged at the domaine and selected for release when she believes the wines are ready. This is one of a few houses that can offer twenty, thirty or forty year-old wines that have lain unmoved in the cellar since bottling.

2017 Maison Leroy Auxey Duresses Blanc was released from the winery in 2021. While we do everything possible to ensure back vintage wines are of the finest provenance, old wines are not guaranteed in any way. Be aware that flavour profiles can change dramatically in older wines. If you are unsure that you will enjoy the flavours that come with older wines, we recommend you don't buy them. "I don't like it" does not qualify for a refund.

For three generations, the Valette family has lived in Chaintré, a small village on the border between Mâconnais and Beaujolais. They grow only Chardonnay on fifteen acres scattered in five villages. The domain was created in 1977, when Gérard Valette was one of the first in the area to leave the local cooperative and start bottling his own wine. After completing wine training, son Philippe joined in 1990 and then decided to convert the family's vineyards to organic farming, using biodynamic methods since 1992.

The Valette's are known for their specific style, wines raised with thorough lees-contact and without racking. They have remained true to this style of winemaking since the 1950s. It is a sort of family tradition that requires accuracy as well as painstaking detail knowledge of the indigenous yeasts and the wine’s proneness to develop reductive flavors. If the estate's wines through the late 1990s were simply powerful, textural examples of high-quality white Burgundy, the wines being released today belong in a category of their own. Complex and sapid, these are fascinating wines although you should be prepared to find wines that are quite different from any of the Valettes' neighbors. Anyone who appreciates the Jura bottlings of Jean-François Ganevat or the Thomas Pico Chablis wines is likely to love them. Valette's wines often benefit from extended aeration so decanting is recommended.
