    $1079.88 Dozen
    ABV: 12.5%

When Laurent Tribut married Marie-Clotilde Dauvissat he joined one of Chablis’ most famous winemaking families. René Dauvissat, Marie’s father, gave the couple parcels of excellent sited Chablis AC & 1er Cru to establish Domaine Tribut. The small Domaine now has 7 hectares of vineyards. The Chablis AC is predominantly situated on Kimmeridgian soils adjacent to the Dauvissat vineyards. Laurent, a humble and good-natured vigneron, prefers the vineyards to be farmed as naturally as possible with a minimum of treatments and organic philosophies. Harvesting is always done by hand. The wines are fermented exclusively en cuve (in tank) and racked into barrel for aging. Laurent typically only buys new oak if he needs to replace old barrels, some of which are 50 years old. With his retirement in 2019 Laurent’s children Solonge, Adeline and Gabriel have now taken the helm, each specialising in different aspects of the business.

The Tribut Chablis share many stylistic similarities with their famous relatives. The wines offer immediate appeal with a rich texture and lovely lemony fruit notes, white spice and vibrant underlying minerality; yet are deeply concentrated with dense though not heavy structures, that age and develop into very complex wines. Compared to Dauvissat they have a little extra generosity. In a lot of ways, they share more in common with the classic White Burgundy appellations of the Côte de Beaune than Chablis.

    Other Reviews....
A fresh and notably ripe nose still manages to convey reasonably good typicity on the mix of white and yellow orchard fruit scents. The rich and attractively textured medium weight flavors possess good punch and persistence where a note of salinity helps to add a sense of lift.

The Tribut family's 2018 Chablis Village was showing well, displaying attractive aromas of citrus fruit, white flowers and toasted almonds. On the palate, it's medium-bodied, with good structuring extract and lively acids, concluding with a chalky finish. It had only been racked to barrel a month before I tasted it, so it's early days to make a definitive pronouncement, but it would appear to be one of the vintage's success stories.

Fragrant, floral, fruity and classic bouquet with layers of spice and myriad white fleshed fruit scents. A silky texture touches the palate first then acidity layers in offering contrast and highlighting the spice qualities of the variety. Fruit flavours and a touch of white pepper reflect the bouquet, medium+-ish acid line, balanced, well-made, and ready to drink. Best from 2024 through 2028.

A delicious Sauvignon Blanc from the outstanding 2020 vintage. Fruit was sourced from a spread of vineyards encompassing the Southern Valleys, Rapaura, Spring Creek and the Awatere subregions, these blocks are cropped at moderate levels to achieve the perfect balance of ripeness, flavour and acidity. Each block was harvested and fermented separately, bringing their own unique character to the blend. Five percent of the wine was fermented in old French barriques with wild yeast, to provide additional complexity and texture.

When legendary Meursault winemaker Dominique Lafon wanted to expand his offerings he looked to the picturesque southern Burgundy region of the Maconnais. Knowing there was immense potential in the area, he found a suitable domaine in Milly Lamartine and renamed it Les Héritiers du Comte Lafon. As is the Lafon way, he immediately converted to organic and now to biodynamic farming. Wanting to preserve the fruit and minerality of the region, only larger, neutral wood or stainless steel is used for vinification and ageing of the wines.

The lieu dit of En Chatenay is situated in Vergisson, the finest village for Pouilly-Fuisse, on the Prisse border.

    Other Reviews....
Hints of fresh bread, almond paste and mint complement scents of crisp yellow orchard fruit, introducing the 2019 Pouilly-Fuissé En Chatenay, a medium to full-bodied, satiny and layered wine that's enveloping and complete, with succulent acids and a saline finish. This is a fine performance from this north-facing site.

Unwinding in the glass with aromas of pear, clear honey, oatmeal and white flowers, the 2019 Viré-Clessé is medium to full-bodied, satiny and textural, with a tightly wound core and chalky grip on the finish. This important cuvée for the domaine was harvested in seven different picks this year.

William Kelley - Wine Advocate (Aug 2021)

Light primrose, some spice to the nose, more yellow fruit, quite punchy, but still with the tight fresh finish, very classy in the powerful, rich style of Viré-Clessé. This is nonetheless in the more mineral style of Viré compared to the sumptuous character of Clessé. I particularly like the lingering quality of the finish.

    Jasper Morris - Inside Burgundy

The 2019 Vire-Clessé has a very appealing bouquet of white peach and lime aromas, an underlying earthiness lending another dimension to the aromatics. The palate is well balanced with generous, slightly Muscat-tinged fruit, maybe missing a little definition on the finish yet still full of freshness. Fine.

    Neal Martin - Vinous

The wine is produced in a rich, luxuriant style, with aromas of ripe apricots and quince. The texture is dense - some will find this perhaps a bit heavy - but Lafon says this corresponds to the style of the commune. From a number of parcels all located within the village of Viré, totalling 6ha. The grapes are pressed as whole bunches and fermented in large oak uprights, as well as large casks, before ageing for ten months on the lees.

The 2017 Chardonnay Thieriot Vineyard is airy, gracious and translucent. The heat of the year has softened some of the more angular contours this wine can show when young. In exchange, though, the 2017 will drink well right out of the gate.

This has a very attractively wound nose with stones and gently flinty notes, across grapefruit zest and lemon pith, in a fresh, upbeat, fragrant style. Some pastry and fresh bread-dough notes here, too. The palate has a very fresh and strikingly concentrated feel with acidity holding sway over ripe-pear and pastry flavors. Smoothly fleshy, supple and sustained.
