2020 Domaine de Vaccelli Granit BlancCorsica, FRANCEReduced from $185.00$160. 00Bottle$1920.00 DozenABV: 13%Closure: CorkVaccelli's Granit Blanc is a selection of 100% Vermentinu vines 26 years old on average, sitting at the highest part on the hill facing the sea. This aspect lends a gentle salinity to the complex range of lemon and yellow stone fruit flavours, driven long on the palate with wet stone mineral streak. Another outstanding example of how in the right hands Vermentino has the capacity to engage the senses as well as any other white varietal.

2020 Domaine de Vaccelli Quartz BlancCorsica, FRANCEReduced from $185.00$160. 00Bottle$1920.00 DozenABV: 13%Closure: CorkQuartz Blanc is one of the few blends produced by Vaccelli, using a mix of four white grape varieties native to Corsica: Carcaghjolu Bianco, Riminese, Ghjenuvese and Cudiverta. A relatively new wine in the range, the vines for Quartz were planted in 2013 on sandy granitic soils. Quartz displays a harmonious balance between the fleshy citrus and green fruit, supported by white florals, honey, and a sappy bitter spice finish. Layered over this profile is a hint of curry leaf and wisps of smoke normally associated with premium Jura Savagnin.

2022 Domaine de Villaine Bouzeron AligoteBurgundy, FRANCE$115. 00Bottle$1380.00 DozenABV: 13%Closure: CorkDomaine de Villaine, nestled in the village of Bouzeron in the Côte Chalonnaise, is renowned for crafting elegant, terroir-driven wines. Founded by Aubert de Villaine, co-director of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, the estate focuses on organic viticulture and minimal intervention, producing standout expressions of Aligoté Doré, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir. Aubert de Villaine handed over management to his nephew Pierre de Benoist in 2000, with Pierre passionate about rediscovering the identity of the Côte Chalonnaise as a whole and of Bouzeron in particular. These wines embody purity, precision, and a deep respect for Burgundy’s traditions.

The 2022 Bouzeron has a fragrant bouquet with apple blossom and light resinous scents. The palate is fresh and vibrant with touches of citrus peel, pineapple and orange zest. Quite linear and taut toward the finish, this is a fine and almost zen-like Bouzeron that merits several months' bottle age. Tasted at merchants' 2022 Burgundy tastings in London. Drink 2025-2035.

Neal Martin - VinousThis reference Aligoté is riper in 2022 than it often is and lacks the bright acidity typical in cooler years such as 2021. However, it provides a moreish choice for refreshing current drinking, with alluring aromas of ripe green apple, apricot and nectarines. The grapes are from old massal-selection vines, hand-harvested and fermented in large oak uprights. A modern classic. Organic. Drink 2024 - 2030.

Nestled in the French Alps near Chambéry, the Savoie region was once a thriving wine-producing area with 20,000 hectares under vine. Today, only 3,000 hectares remain, with much of the replanting occurring on flatter, machine-friendly terrain at the cost of quality. However, in 1998, a group led by Denis Perroux and pioneering biodynamic winemaker Michel Grisard revived the abandoned Coteau de Cevins, a historic slope once renowned for its wines. Replanted with traditional Savoie varieties and cultivated biodynamically, it quickly reclaimed its reputation as one of France's most exciting vineyard sites.Domaine des Ardoisières was established to champion this unique terroir, with Brice Omont taking the helm in 2005 to continue Grisard's vision. The dramatic 60% inclines of Cevins are planted with a mix of native grapes, including Persan, Mondeuse Noire, Altesse, Roussanne, Mondeuse Blanche, Malvoisie, and Jacquère. With meticulous vineyard work and extremely low yields, the wines from this site—Quartz, Schiste, and Améthyste—express the depth and energy of the region's metamorphic soils. Every step, from cultivation to vinification, is shaped by the contours of the land, reinforcing the estate's commitment to purity and place.
Beyond Cevins, Omont expanded the Domaine in 2008, planting on the limestone and schist-rich slopes of St Pierre de Soucy. This site gives rise to the Argile cuvées, offering a different expression of Savoie through Gamay, Mondeuse Noire, Persan, Jacquère, Chardonnay, and Mondeuse Blanche. In 2015, he further expanded with the highly regarded Silice cuvée, made from exceptional Jacquère plantings. Today, Domaine des Ardoisières stands at the forefront of Savoie’s resurgence, crafting wines that capture both the raw Alpine energy and the meticulous craftsmanship behind this remarkable Domaine.
Silice is 100% Jacquere planted on schist and clay that yields as a plush and mineral white wine that is incredibly light on its feet for an expression that has such intensity of flavour and texture. This is a compelling bottle of wine that speaks of its alpine origin, echoing its terraced vineyards with its bold, stony and mineral character.
Brilliant pale straw to straw colour with a watery hue. Gentle lime and green apple scents mix with some pear skin, subtle floral and wet stone notes. Light and stony in it’s feel, elegant flavours of green apple and lime meld into a citrusy mineral, fresh herb and wet stone back drop. Brisk, energetic acidity with a very fresh and focused saline laced finish.
Drink over the next 4-5 years.

One of my favourite Savoie producers, well priced for access, per se, and very good and consistent quality. A focus on the white variety, jaquére, grown in various plots across Ardoisiéres vineyard sites. Organic farmed.
It’s such a pleasing drink, straight up. Soft, white peach and preserved lemon, tonic water, green apple, gentle talc and subtle brine notes, generally a sense of ‘minerality’ and a little chalkiness and juiciness hand-in-hand. While tasting is a professional pursuit, sometimes you drink the whole bottle with friends in the sun, mea culpa, and that is the finest endorsement. Drink 2025-2029.

2023 Domaine des Ardoisieres Argile BlancSavoie, FRANCE$97. 99Bottle$1175.88 DozenABV: 11.5%Closure: CorkNestled in the French Alps, Domaine des Ardoisières is at the heart of Savoie's revival, crafting wines that capture the region’s raw Alpine energy. The once-abandoned Coteau de Cevins was revived in 1998 by Denis Perroux and biodynamic pioneer Michel Grisard, and since 2005, Brice Omont has continued their vision, cultivating its steep, schist-rich slopes with native varieties. His expansion to the limestone and schist soils of St Pierre de Soucy in 2008 further enriched the domaine’s range, producing vibrant, terroir-driven cuvées like Quartz, Schiste, Améthyste, and Argile. Today, Domaine des Ardoisières stands as a benchmark for Savoie, proving the region’s potential through meticulous craftsmanship and a deep respect for the land.
The Argile Blanc is a blend of 40% Jacquere, 40% Chardonnay and 20% Mondeuse Blanche grown on western facing slopes on soils of schist and clay. The wine is fermented with native yeast and aged for nine months in vat. The Argile Blanc showcases an abundance of alpine tension and refreshment with flavours of white flowers, orchard fruits and green almonds.

2023 Domaine des Hates Petit ChablisChablis, FRANCE$49. 99Bottle$599.88 DozenCellar: Drink now - 4 Years (2025-2029)ABV: 12.5%Closure: StelvinConcentrated and gorgeously shaped with brisk acidity and a saline like minerality.
Located in the north-west sector of Chablis in the village of Maligny, Pierrick Laroche runs this family estate which was established by his father in the 1970s. After getting a degree in oenology from Beaune, Patrick travelled the world, doing various internships to gain experience before returning home to start making wine and take over the family vineyards for himself. In 2010 he ceased selling grapes to the local co-operative and produced his first vintage to great acclaim.
The domain has nearly 12ha of Petit Chablis, classified as such because the limestone tends to be the younger Portlandian rather than the older Kimmeridgian, and as such typically occupies higher sites (Portlandian overlies Kimmeridgian) and has less clay. Pierrick is convinced that his largest parcel of Petit really ought to be classed as Chablis; it makes wine like Chablis and indeed is surrounded by AOC Chablis vines.
Brilliant pale straw colour with a faint greenish tinge around the outskirts and a watery hue. Attractive pear and lime scents laced with wet stone and an oyster shell like minerality drift through the nostrils with ample volume. Delicious pear and lime fruits are delivered with excellent concentration and carry a beautifully rounded river stone like feel. Wet stone, oyster shell, subtle infusions of fresh herbs and a saline like minerality linger underneath. Brisk acidity finishing long and shapely.

2018 Domaine Didier Dagueneau Silex Magnum (1500ml)Pouilly Fume, Loire Valley, FRANCE$850. 00Bottle$10200.00 DozenABV: 13.5%Closure: CorkPouilly Fumé and Sancerre are the global benchmarks for Sauvignon Blanc, and there is no bigger name or more highly regarded producer in the area than Domaine Didier Dagueneau. Now under the guidance of Didier's talented son Louis-Benjamin, the wines still follow his ethos that authentic Pouilly Fumé requires healthy fruit from low yielding, old vines to produce the purest, and most intense and vibrantly fresh wine. That's not to say these wines are typical of the appellation. Given the severely low yields and approach to élevage, Dagueneau wines emphasise a creamy texture rather than bracing acidity, and combine mineral flavours with exotic fruits to supreme effect.
For many, the aptly named Silex is the pinnacle not only in the Dagueneau range, but in all of Pouilly Fumé. Hailing from a north facing vineyard rich in flint soils, the emphasis with Silex is the pure mineral traits Pouilly Fumé is famous for, yet with intensity and focus dialled up to eleven. Silex can take a few years in the cellar to fully express the core of citrus fruit among the smoke and flint notes; however history has proven it is well worth the wait. Dagueneau's Silex is a class leading icon of the Loire Valley.
Other Reviews....
Perhaps the most famous of the Dagueneau cuvées, the 2018 Silex is flowing and accessible on entry, but then it coils and tightens. The silex (flint) soil gives firmness, imbuing structure and steely tension. Power and concentration combine, providing an almost waxy texture on the finish. Flavors of spiced apples, almonds and pastry linger. It's just not quite as long as expected. Tasted over three days. Drink 2021 - 2028.

In very short time Antoine has risen to prominence, and in 2022 was named “Discovery of the Year 2022” by the French wine magazine La Revue du Vin de France.
While only displaying a slight blush of colour, Orange is very much the textural and complex delight these skin contact wines are famed for. Six months on skins has lent a generous degree of pithy bitter fruit notes with hints of spice and Campari to close. A very good example of the style.
Other Reviews....
If you like Campari or Negroni, you will love the 2021 Orange with its herbal character reminiscent of fennel and dill, plus a bitter twist thanks to six months of skin contact. Rebecca Gibb MW - VinousFrom the “normal white” color in the glass, you might not guess that this was an orange wine, but once you start on it you’ll get it. Concentrated bead of red-peach and spicy flavors and plenty of drive though the medium-bodied palate. Structured and slightly tannic, as befits the category. From biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification. Lots of character. Hard not to like this. Enjoy now.

Here too the nose is cool and restrained with a discreet application of wood framing the layered aromas of honeysuckle, white peach and a variety of floral nuances. The refined and beautifully textured medium-bodied flavors possess excellent mid-palate concentration before terminating in a persistent, balanced and dry finale. This is also understated and lovely with the balance and material to reward at least a decade of aging. Drink through 2030+.

William Kelley - Wine Advocate (Jan 21, 2022)The 2020 Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru has a very well-defined bouquet with yellow flowers and mirabelle, dried pineapple, lemon thyme and a touch of almond. The palate is well balanced, quite intense with the power offset by the acidity, very critic with a tang of bitter lemon. The new oak slightly occludes the finish but that will be subsumed with time. Good potential, but chuck it in a cellar for 4-7 years. Drink 2026-2046.

Rich and muscular, the 2019 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru exhibits aromas of pear, citrus zest, toasted nuts, honeycomb and white flowers. Full-bodied, broad and powerful, with lively acids and an ample core of ripe fruit, it's the most dramatic wine in the range. William Kelley - Wine Advocate (Jan 2021)The 2019 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru conveys much more terroir expression on the nose, offering chalk dust and wet limestone aromas; great intensity here. The taut, fresh palate is very well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, a mineral-driven finish and commendable persistence. This is a step above the Bienvenues this year and it should age with style. Bon vin!

Neal Martin - VinousIf anything, the Bâtard has the fresher colour of the two, or perhaps less yellow, but the nose is softer and creamier. Less in the fruit register, more powerful, even though these are the same rows of vines as the Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet, just slightly up the slope! More stones here, so the soil drains better. The fruit is agreeably lifted on the palate, ultimately the more classic, the more stylish of the two. A wine for greater reflection over a long period. Impressive.

Located in the heart of Burgundy, Famille Paquet is a 30 hectare property located at the foot of the rocks of Solutré and Vergisson. The Paquets take great care of their vineyards, using organic and biodynamic compost and manage each of their 50 plots individually. The property is currently in conversion to organic viticulture.
This Chardonnay is sourced from vines planted between 1929 and 2015 in Cruzille, Lugny, Prissé, Loché and La Roche-Vineuse.
Aged in oak barrels (25%) and stainless steel on lees. Bright straw colour with a watery hue. Peach and ripe apple aromas intermix with bees wax, pear and faint lemon butter notes. Ménétrières reflects a mix of three soil types, clay, limestone and marl. One of the fuller yellow colours. Almost banana and cream on the nose, high class though. Here the fruit and the crystalline racy character march hand in hand, very well integrated with the oak as well. Waves of flavour course across the palate. Clearly an additional nobility, with a fine backbone and excellent length. 13.5% alcohol. Drink from 2028-2038.

Jasper Morris MW - Inside BurgundyHere the nose is similar to the Perrières but with more floral influence. In contrast to the relatively refined mouthfeel of the Perrières, the notably bigger-bodied flavors are rich, concentrated and powerful with seriously good punch on the strikingly long, balanced and sappy finale. Allen Meadows - BurghoundThe 2022 Pouilly-Fuissé Les Ménétrières 1er Cru is more reticent on the nose following on from the Les Perrières. Crushed stone and subtle menthol notes emerge with aeration. Fine delineation (again). The palate is well-balanced with fine depth, but this year, I found more complexity within the Les Perrières, and it needs a little more mineralité on the finish. Over the crest from Ménétrières, with more of a northern aspect as well as east, lots of stones in a light marly limestone. Production is extremely small, making the wines highly sought after, and the focus stays squarely on transparent, site-driven expressions in both Crozes-Hermitage and Hermitage, including the flagship Le Gréal and the white wines drawn from old Marsanne and Roussanne.

The ideal marriage of finesse and controlled power, this has a scented nose of preserved lemons, wild herbs, dried peaches, raw almonds and a subtle touch of mild spices. Medium-bodied with a fresh center-palate of perfectly controlled dried-citrus bitterness touching the silky, almost seamless texture. Harmonious, so flavorful and well-composed, it has perfect balance and a long, long, enchanting finish. From vines planted in 1926. Drink or hold.

Stuart Pigott - JamesSuckling.comSlightly darker in colour than the domaine's classic Hermitage. Intense quince and pear, very rich and powerful, but has a dry, savoury, edge and a firm, mineral grind, along with dried honey. Real power in this, which balances the richness. Drinkable now, but will age very well thanks to its salinity and extract. Very long. Drink 2025-2039.

2023 Domaine Moreau-Naudet ChablisChablis, FRANCE$110. 00Bottle$1320.00 DozenClosure: Diam CorkFounded in the 1950s and now led by Virginie Moreau, this long-established Chablis estate has built a reputation for wines of purity, depth and precision. Virginie continues the legacy of her late husband Stéphane, who steered the domaine toward organic farming, indigenous fermentations and long lees ageing in a mix of stainless steel and neutral oak. The vineyards, centred around Préhy, Courgis and Chablis itself, are managed by hand and cropped at modest yields to capture the tension and minerality that define the region’s greatest sites. Moreau-Naudet's wines are recognised for their textural weight, unforced detail and faithful reflection of terroir, aligning them with the classic, artisanal style of Chablis.
Sourced mainly from 20-30 year old vines in Préhy and Courgis, along with parcels in Chablis and Chichée, this wine sets the tone for the domaine. The fruit was pressed gently over several hours and fermented with natural yeasts before resting for around 20 months on lees, mostly in stainless steel. The approach is patient and traditional, favouring texture, clarity and a subtle saline edge that marks the Moreau-Naudet style.

Derived from three different locations, Moreau-Naudet’s 2023 Chablis Village opens in the glass to reveal aromas of grapefruit zest, acacia and flint. On the palate, it’s medium-bodied, tangy and textural, concluding with a precise, delicately sapid finish. Similarly to the Petit Chablis, it’s vinified entirely in tank.

From a 60-year-old parcel on the ridge between Montmains and Vosgros, Les Pargues shares the same south-facing exposure as several Premier Cru sites. Historically considered of Premier Cru standing, the lieu-dit produces wines of depth and minerality from its thin, stony soils. Moreau's 1.8-hectare holding yields only 15-25 hl/ha, and the wine is partly fermented in older barrels (around 30%). The result is a layered, saline expression that consistently outperforms its appellation.

Issuing from three parcels of over 60-year-old vines, amounting to 1.8 hectares, Moreau-Naudet’s 2023 Chablis Pargues Vieilles Vignes sees 30% of maturation in used oak, with the remainder matured in tank. Offering notes of pear, honeysuckle and iodine, it’s medium to full-bodied, concentrated and inviting, laden with vibrant acidity and concluding with a delicately chalky finish.

Kristaps Karklins - Robert Parker's Wine AdvocateThis exceptional village Chablis has a deceptively pale yellow colour with hints of green, yet boasts pronounced aromas of ripe Mirabelle plum, exotic passion fruit and delicate white flowers. The texture is creamy and the palate has a lovely depth of flavour. The grapes are from three parcels of 70-year-old vines totalling 1.8ha in the left-bank lieu-dit of Les Pargues; they are crushed as whole clusters and fermented in tank and old casks (25%) before bottling. Drink 2028-2045.

Forêts is part of the Montmains slope, and Moreau owns two plots totalling nearly two hectares. One parcel sits adjacent to Dauvissat's older vines, the other next to Raveneau's holdings, giving exposure to some of the region's most respected terroirs. Fermentation and ageing combine both steel and used oak (approximately 30 percent), and the wine is allowed to mature for two years. This cuvée is a pure statement of terroir with a mineral drive and layered structure.
Other Reviews....
Vinified in a combination of used oak (30%) and stainless steel, the 2023 Chablis 1er Cru Forêts is one of the highlights from Moreau-Naudet’s portfolio this year, beautifully exemplifying the classical Chablisien character. Wafting from the glass with a deep bouquet of beeswax, orange zest and pear, mingling with oyster shell, it’s medium to full-bodied, layered and tense, with vibrant acidity and excellent cut. It concludes with a pure, chalky finish. Virginie Moreau admits that in recent years she has given a slight preference to Forêts over the expressiveness of Vaillons. Readers will be able to make their own conclusions, as both wines come warmly recommended.

2023 Domaine Moreau-Naudet Montee de Tonnerre Chablis Premier CruChablis, FRANCE$199. 00Bottle$2388.00 DozenClosure: CorkFounded in the 1950s and now led by Virginie Moreau, this long-established Chablis estate has built a reputation for wines of purity, depth and precision. In the Chapelot section of Montée de Tonnerre, directly across from the Blanchots Grand Cru, Moreau farms just over one hectare split across older (50-year) and more recently replanted vines. The vineyard's sandy and rocky topsoils over Kimmeridgian limestone lend this wine a core of mineral austerity. Elevage mirrors that of the other premiers (long time on lees, mixed vessels), giving this wine both concentration and the potential for evolution.
Other Reviews....
With 12.5% alcohol, Moreau-Naudet’s 2023 Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre is another success this year, soaring from the glass with a bouquet of beeswax, honeysuckle and crisp orchard fruit. Matured in a combination of old wood (30%) and tank, it’s medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated yet with good tension and structured around racy acids, with ample chalky extract and a long, sapid finish. It derives from a parcel just next to Raveneau’s.
