Loaded Barrel Butterscotch Single Malt Australian Whisky Liqueur (500ml)
    Melbourne, Victoria, AUSTRALIA
    $56. 99
    Bottle
    $683.88 Dozen
    ABV: 22%

Loaded Barrel's latest offering sees natural butterscotch flavours blended with their four-year-old single malt. The result may not be as complex as traditional Scotch Whisky liqueurs, but it avoids the intense sweetness of butterscotch schnapps. Shaken well before tasting (as per the producer's recommendation), the nose feels moderated by the base spirit. It's sweet, with tooth-coating butterscotch and milk chocolate flavours, yet it retains a lightness that allows the sugars to 'breathe', extending the palate length and avoiding the clunky, cloying character typical of the category. A one-trick-pony, but in the context of dessert liqueurs, this is a success. Even if you don't have a sweet tooth, one taste shouldn't be out of the question. 22% Alc./Vol.

Park VS Carte Blanche Cognac (700ml)
    Cognac, FRANCE
    $109. 99
    Bottle
    $1319.88 Dozen
    ABV: 40%

Cognac Park is the premier brand from Distillerie Tessendier, a Borderies-based house established in 1880. Today, fourth-generation brothers and Master Blenders, Lilian and Jérôme Tessendier run the show. Not limited to blending, they also distill from their own 60 hectare estate and buy around 40,000 hectoliters from winemakers, maintaining relationships that span several generations. The entry-level VS is a 50/50 marriage of Fins Bois and Petite Champagne cognacs aged for a minimum of three years, but most of it is closer to six. The goal was to create an "energetic Cognac" that grants bartenders 'carte blanche’ to use it as they wish in cocktails, however, it feels like what they’ve made here would be quickly lost in mixing. Tasting it on its own is essential. The first pass elicits pure, floral-soft aromatics, coaxing out scents of ripe pears, apricots and citrus blossom. That soft touch is echoed on the palate which is restrained, elegant and less overtly fruity than many a VS, also impeccably pure. Dried fruits, poached quince, dry triple sec and lingering wisps of passionfruit in the lengthy rebound make this very classy, understated VS seem out of place in its classification. Highly recommended. 40% Alc./Vol. Tasted from 50ml sample.

Notes from the producers... Menthol, linden blossom, apricot, banana, pear, ginger, dried fruits, pepper (pink), lychee, orange zest, and white flowers.

2009 Compagnie des Indes (Secret Distillery) 13 Year Old Single Cask Panama Rum (700ml)
    PANAMA
    $149. 99
    Bottle
    $1799.88 Dozen
    ABV: 43%

A 30ml sample yields atypical rum aromas; Subdued, vaguely vegetal, eaux de vie-like, developing more familiar, though still muted notes of molasses and vanilla after 2-3 minutes of air contact. A light entry follows with soft, medium-dry flavours of dried fruits, aged grappa, shortbread and vanilla with a warming finish that resembles sherried malt whisky. Hard to pin down. A great throw-in at your next blind rum tasting. 429 bottles produced. 43% Alc./Vol.

    FRANCE
    $119. 99
    Bottle
    $1439.88 Dozen
    ABV: 40%

Arlett single malt is produced at France's Distillerie Tessendier, better known for their Cognacs. Three years maturing in American oak and x-bourbon barrels delivers a malt with moderate aromas of cereals, digestif biscuits and sweet nutty tones. Soft and accessible, the palate continues the cereal theme, adding sprinklings of milk chocolate, flaked almonds and toasted grains, closing with delicate bitter peel and cedary oak. 40% alc./vol.

    2024 Chateau Giscours Pre-Arrival Offer
    Margaux, Bordeaux, FRANCE
    $125. 00
    Bottle
    $1500.00 Dozen
    Closure: Cork

Chateau Giscours in Margaux has been making wine in the region as far back at the 1300’s, but it’s only recently that they’ve earned a reputation for outstanding wines. Extensive replanting of the vineyards and a change in composition to include more Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend has resulted in wines truly reflective of the appellation. Another technology pioneer in the region, Chateau Giscours was one of the first to use gravity to move wine in the cellars. While this practice is common now, it was unique in the 1800’s. They were also one of the first to use optical sorting of the grapes, another common tool used more widely today.

    Other Reviews....
The 2024 Giscours has turned out very well indeed. Offering up incipiently complex aromas of dark berries and cherries mingled with orange zest, licorice, violets and burning embers, it's medium to full-bodied, with good density and richness, with a layered, rather muscular palate and a long, expansive finish. The 2024 is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot. The estate retained cover crops to amplify the dry conditions in July and August, accelerating ripening, and once again picked by vine age within blocks, bringing in the younger-vine fruit earlier before it could rot. Merlot came in between 19 and 28 September, and the Cabernet Sauvignon was picked very late, between 1 and 11 October.

    William Kelley - Wine Advocate

The 2024 Giscours is impressive. Elegant and sleek, with fine balance, Giscours is all class. The bouquet alone is so enticing. Small red berry fruit, spice, tobacco, mint and cedar are all finely sketched in a mid-weight, nervy Giscours that is quite showy right out of the gate. There is a bit of edginess in the tannins, but that's not anything that can't be addressed with élevage. A closing burst of aromatics leaves a long-lasting impression. Tasted three times. Drink 2032-2044.

A fresh and vivid red, showing blackcurrants, herbs and hints of needles and dried flowers. Medium-bodied. Nicely chewy tannins extend to the medium-long finish, which is bright, firm and linear. A Giscours that shows the elegance and balance of the vintage. 60% cabernet sauvignon, 31% merlot, 6% cabernet franc and 3% petit verdot.

    James Suckling

Based on 49% Cabernet Sauvignon, 41% Merlot, and 10% Petit Verdot, the 2024 Château Giscours offers beautiful darker currants, cassis, and violets intermixed with classy oak notes. Medium-bodied and nicely concentrated on the palate, it offers elegant tannins, beautiful balance, and impressive length. The harvest was very late here, and it shows in the depth and concentration of the wine.

A little shy on the nose, needs some coaxing, blackcurrant, blackberry and dark cherry fruit. Dried flowers, roses, violets, milk chocolate, creamy. Lovely texture on the palate, filling and round, plush and gently firm. Grippy but not overdone. Some enjoyable austerity but the structure is there and this has mouthwatering acidity. Dried herbs, mint, salty stones, tobacco and some dried spices. Well built with a sense of character. 3% Petit Verdot completes the blend. Ageing 50% new oak barrels. 3.71pH. Tasted three times. A yield of 35hl/ha. Drink 2028 - 2043.

The 2024 Canon is shaping up brilliantly, wafting from the glass with aromas of sweet cherries, blackberries and raspberries mingled with notions of rose petals and spices. Medium to full-bodied, rich and fleshy, with tangy acids (the pH is a very low 3.35) and ultrarefined tannins, it concludes with a long, mineral finish. A blend of 78% Merlot and 22% Cabernet Franc, it's the estate's first year of organic certification.
    93-95 points
    William Kelley - Wine Advocate

The 2024 Canon is superb. One of the standouts of the vintage, the 2024 possesses striking mid-palate depth to match its vertical personality. Chalk, white pepper, mint, lavender, rose petal, slate and blue/purplish fruit all stain the palate. There's gorgeous depth and density here, and yet the 2024 remains a super-classic wine from the property. This is a real stunner. That's all there is to it. Tasted four times. Drink 2034-2059.
    95-97 points

Structured, balanced and textured, it has aromas of red berries and pine needles. It’s medium-bodied with velvety tannins. Rather seamless. Long, juicy finish with salty limestone undertones.
    95-96 points
    James Suckling

The Grand Vin 2024 Château Canon is 78% Merlot and 22% Cabernet Franc that will spend 16-18 months in 49% new oak, with a small amount in foudre. Black raspberries, graphite, crushed stone, and violet notes all define the aromatics, and it's medium-bodied, fresh, has a vibrant, layered mouthfeel, and a great finish. It's a classic Canon with its minerality, focused, elegant mouthfeel, and outstanding length. Tasted multiple times with consistent results.

Beautiful fragrance on the nose, really alive and forward, roses, purple flowers and red berry fruit. Lifted and intense with a real push of cherry and strawberry fruit. So clean, pure, lively and tangy, the acidity and fruit is really at the fore here. Tannins are almost subtle, gently giving frame while the minerality adds an extra layer of complexity on the finish. I love this because it’s playful, really not serious, harmonious and full of flavour. Juicy, alive and mouthwatering. Such a great wine and one where you really can't taste the difficulties of the year in the glass. Crystalline and pure, elegant and super charming. Ageing 49% new oak barrels, 6% foudres for 16 to 18 months. 3.35pH.A yield of 45hl/ha. Drink 2030 - 2045.

A blend of 63.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot and 0.5% Cabernet Franc, the 2024 Rauzan-Ségla offers up aromas of minty cassis, pencil shavings and cigar wrapper, followed by a medium-bodied, soft and pillowy palate that's supple and open-knit, concluding with a melting, discreetly herbal finish.
    89-91 points
    William Kelley - Wine Advocate

The 2024 Rauzan-Ségla is magnificent. One of the top wines of the Left Bank, Rauzan-Ségla possesses tremendous textural density and mind-blowing balance. Dark fruit, lavender, spice, licorice and new leather are all dialed up in a potent, layered Margaux that offers stunning harmony and incredible purity. At this stage, Rauzan-Ségla is one of the wines of the vintage in Bordeaux. Elegant yet powerful, the 2024 is simply magnificent. Tasted four times. Drink 2043-2054.

A juicy, fruity wine with lovely berry and cherry aromas. Bright and vibrant, with a medium body and lightly chewy tannins. Supple in the middle, with a firm, medium-long finish. 63.5% cabernet sauvignon, 34% merlot, 2% petit verdot and 0.5% cabernet franc.

    Zekun Shuai - JamesSuckling.com

The Grand Vin 2024 Château Rauzan-Ségla checks in as 63.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot, and a splash of Cabernet Franc, with the élevage spanning 18 months in 50% new oak. It brings another level of density as well as finesse. Ripe black cherries, cassis, graphite, spring flowers, and beautifully integrated oak all define the aromatics, and it's medium-bodied, with solid mid-palate depth, ripe tannins, and outstanding length.
    92-94 points

Cherry stone on the nose, rose, violet, strawberry and red cherry. Chewy and well textured, filling but gentle, the tannins are exceptional and the freshness is so well balanced with the fruit. So sophisticated, confident, smooth and utterly compelling. I love it, round, soft with lifted acidity that gives the tang with some liquorice on the finish. Energy and focus with real succulence. Still not a big wine, but this has plenty of style and refinement and a feeling of happiness about it. 0.5% Cabernet Franc completes the blend. Ageing 50% new barrels for 18 months. 55% production. 3.7pH. Drink 2032-2049.

2024 Chateau Pavie Macquin Pre-Arrival Offer
    Saint Emilion, Bordeaux, FRANCE
    $125. 00
    Bottle
    $1500.00 Dozen
    Closure: Cork

    Other Reviews....
The 2024 Pavie Macquin offers up attractive aromas of raspberries, violets, rose petals and spices, framed by a discreet 45% new oak. Medium to full-bodied, ample and pure, it's built around a tangy, somewhat assertive spine of acidity that lends this wine an angular, edgy profile. Of course, that may integrate with additional élevage.
    88-90 points
    William Kelley - Wine Advocate

The 2024 Pavie Macquin is positively gorgeous. Silky, layered and voluptuous, the 2024 is so impressive right out of the gate. Plush contours wrap around a core of purplish fruit, lavender, licorice, spice, menthol and chocolate. All the signatures of this site come through loud and clear. Savory and floral notes supported by clean veins of salinity extend the persistent finish. Pavie Macquin shows what was possible in 2024. The choice to harvest everything in October (from the 3rd to the 8th) paid off big time. Aging is in French oak, with about 15% in larger 500-liter barrels, 45% new wood overall. Tasted three times. Drink 2034-2054.
    94-96 points
    Antonio Galloni - Vinous

What a bright, racy wine showing beautiful chalky tannins and mid-palate fruit of good density. Minerally, with blue and red fruit. Taut on the palate, with a medium to full body supported by tense, chalky tannins. The long and really succulent finish goes on for a while. Precise. 84% merlot, 15% cabernet franc and 1% cabernet sauvignon.
    96-97 points
    Zekun Shuai - JamesSuckling.com

Incorporating slightly less Cabernet Franc than usual, the 2024 Château Pavie Macquin checks in as 84% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Cabernet Sauvignon, resting in 40% new barrels, with 10% in larger barrels. It has a classic Pavie Macquin nose of dark cherries, cassis, graphite, and spring flowers, with a subtle, cooler-toned edge that always seems to come through from this terroir. This carries to a medium-bodied Saint-Émilion with a focused, nicely structured, balanced mouthfeel, ripe tannins, and juicy acidity that carries through the finish. It's a beautiful, vibrant 2024 and one of the few in the vintage that's going to really benefit from bottle age. Tasted multiple times with consistent results.

Creamy, accessible entry develops to a medium to full bodied middle, repeating those piney-juniper accents with spikes of pepper and a vibrant lemon-thyme finish. Lots of personality on its own, this should equally lend itself to mixing. 42% Alc./Vol. Batch #5 tasted.

Fresh citrus notes from the inclusion of Lemon Drop Wax foraged from the Grampians region is balanced with sweetness and warm spice, giving this gin a well-rounded mouthfeel and smooth after taste.

    2017 Promontory Proprietary Red
    Napa Valley, California, UNITED STATES
    $1999. 00
    Bottle
    $23988.00 Dozen
    Closure: Cork

From the Harlan family, one of the most respected names in Napa, Promontory represents a singular vision: to express a completely distinct, previously undeveloped territory on the western edge of Oakville. Discovered in the 1980s but only launched as its own estate in 2008, the vineyard sits on dramatic terrain, far removed from the valley floor and carved by geologic fault lines. The site’s complexity, elevation, and isolation set it apart from anything else in the region, and the team behind Harlan Estate and Bond have spent years unlocking its potential with patient, detail-oriented farming and restrained winemaking. This is not just another Napa label, it’s a project that pushes the boundaries of what’s possible from the region.

    Other Reviews....
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2017 Promontory has a wonderfully fragrant nose of baked blackberries, plum preserves and black currant pastilles with an undercurrent of star anise, violets, espresso and tilled earth. Medium to full-bodied, it is soft-spoken and elegantly styled in the mouth, featuring skillfully managed, grainy tannins and bags of juicy black fruits, finishing long, earthy and remarkably energetic. This is certainly among the most profound of the 2017 Napa Cabernets and for followers of this vineyard, not one to be missed. Drink 2024-2054.

    Lisa Perrotti-Brown - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The 2017 Promontory is vibrant, focused and bristling with energy. Bright red-toned fruit, spice, crushed rocks and flowers convey energy, with floral notes that continue to open with aeration. This is an especially mid-weight, nervous vintage for Promontory, and yet all the elements are so well balanced. The 2017 is going to be a spectacular wine, in a number of years. This is one of its best showings. Drink 2025-2042.

Blackcurrant, tar, lead pencil and dark fruit. Full-bodied with resin, dark-berry and redwood undertones and firm, fine tannins. Salty. Leaner than some, but so long and bright. Vertical elegance here. Needs three to four years to soften and open.
    98 points
    James Suckling

Showing consistently, the 2017 Promontory has to be one of the greatest 2017s from Napa out there. Showing the full-bodied, elegant style of the vintage, it offers a beautiful perfume of ripe red and black currants, smoked tobacco, savory dried herbs, and scorched earth. It’s certainly accessible today, with ripe, integrated tannins, yet it has the balance and concentration to evolve for another two decades. Drink 2023-2043.

    Jeb Dunnuck

Lovely fragrance to the nose, smells inviting. Lifted and fresh straight away, this has focus and is quite straight at the moment, linear with a precision that keeps it quite tight from start to finish. You can sense the detail and the definition to the fruit - herbal spiced red berry fruits with tons of liquorice giving a sweet, sticky aspect and some fresh mint notes too that come in towards the end. Feels well handled, it's quietly confident with no excess, it certainly doesn't shout loudly but it's well balanced and captivating. Markedly different to some of the other Napa Cabernets. Drink 2025-2046.

Ron Santiago De Cuba Carta Blanca Rum (700ml)
    CUBA
    $69. 99
    Bottle
    $839.88 Dozen
    ABV: 38%

Until now, the Cuban rum category in Australia has been limited to Havana Club. Santiago de Cuba breaks the drought with three new lines. Named after the city of Santiago and boasting over 160 years of distilling experience, Cuba Ron's rum making tradition is unrivalled on the island. Their portfolio starts with the Carta Blanca, a three year old spirit intended primarily as a mixer, offering a balance of a light sweetness with a dry finish. 38% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews... A typically characterful Cuban light rum with pleasing grassy, vanilla and leathery notes. 4.5 stars - diffordsguide.com

...Despite the plus points to this rum I still feel that overall it is all just a little bit to light and to clean.  The only real evidence of “rum” comes in the finish which is slightly leathery with a note of tobacco.  I really enjoy more fruity white rums such as Chairman’s Reserve White Label and Appleton Special. This is probably handy for a bartender needing a more easy going rum. From my perspective though it is very average. 2 Stars - thefatrumpirate.com

    Try it in a Daiquiri:

DESCRIPTION: Cuba is seen as the home of many classic cocktails and none are more famous than the Daiquiri - best made with Ron Santiago de Cuba Carta Blanca!

This lighter styled Cuban classic is made for mixing, but equally enjoyable over ice where you'll savour its aged notes of honey, vanilla and coffee. 40% Alc./Vol.

Ron Santiago De Cuba 11 Year Anejo Old Rum (700ml)
    CUBA
    $124. 99
    Bottle
    $1499.88 Dozen
    ABV: 40%

A big age statement for Cuban Rum, Ron Santiago's Extra Añejo 11 year old blends the sweetness of sugarcane molasses grown in the Oriente province in the South East of the island with the skillful touch of the Maestros del Ron Cubano. Aged in white oak, there's a nice balance of mature notes including estery tropical fruits, coconut, delicate vanilla and almond, with the sweetness perfectly balanced by moderate spices. 40% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews... If you are looking to explore the “lighter” side of rum. I would recommend this as a sipper. It’s quite easy going but at the same time has enough going on to remain interesting. The balance of this rum is really good... Sure this works great in things like an Old Fashioned but I think its best enjoyed on its own. 4 stars - the fatrumpirate.com

Try it in a Cuban Crown:

DESCRIPTION: This organic twist on the Daiquiri uses honey to balance the sharp lime with a hint of salt to season. This provides a cocktail with lasting depth.

    20ml lime juice

METHOD: To make the salted honey syrup combine 2 parts honey to one-part warm water and add a pinch of salt. Stir until well combined. Then shake all of the ingredients over ice and strain into a chilled coupette glass.

Il Marroneto produce some of the purest and most perfumed expressions of Sangiovese made anywhere. Part of the secret lies in their prime location within Brunello's traditional top class territory, situated at 450m above sea level with a cool northern exposure. Combined with the much lauded talents of gifted winemaker Alessandro Mori, and it's clear to see why Il Marroneto are so highly coveted by Brunello fans worldwide.

Alessandro Mori has always adopted a traditional approach, aiming for elegance and purity, without sacrificing depth or impact in his wines. Organic practices have been used in the vineyards since 1988, while natural fermentation occurs and there is neither fining nor filtration before bottling.

Alessandro Mori did not have a Rosso vineyard, so he cobbled together vines from declassified Brunello and leased land (measuring 7,000 square meters) to provide the fruit for this wine. The Il Marroneto 2022 Rosso di Montalcino Ignaccio is underlined by brightness and freshness with forest berry fruits, blue flower and navel orange. Harvest in 2022 started early on September 20th, compared to September 24th in 2020 and much later in 2019 on October 5th. Drink 2025-2038.

Monica Larner - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The 2022 Rosso di Montalcino Ignaccio is exotic with a seductive blend of spiced blood orange, wild strawberries, rose petals and a dusting of spice. Juicy and vividly fresh, it sweeps across the palate with ripe raspberry and cherry-berry fruits while taking on a coating of chalky minerality toward the close. Sour citrus enlivens the experience as this finishes long and staining yet still remarkably fresh. The mouth waters for more under an air of violet inner florals. Simply spellbinding. This is already a total pleasure, yet it has the balance for short-term cellaring. Due to the changes in the Rosso di Montalcino regulations, Il Marroneto will be able to use another hectare, originally planted for IGT Sangiovese, in their Rosso in the coming vintages, which means more of this glorious juice to go around. Drink 2024-2032.

A scented red full of intoxicating aromas of sweet violets, cinnamon, smoke, woodland, slate, minerals and orange peel. Crisp, exuberant acidity on the palate with velvety tannins and a chalky, medium- to full-bodied and polished finish. Drink or hold.

A really perfumed, floral expression of Sangiovese, with plenty of lavender, violet and garrigue. Grippy and dusty tannins clamp the palate, with the promise of some delicious juiciness in time. Sturdy yet finessed, earthy wild berries and pomegranate mingle with bitter herbs and spice, then a fresh, saline finish with glimpses of spice and blood orange. Drink 2025-2030.

Alessandro Mori makes two Rosso di Montalcino wines, and the difference between them comes down to the selection of barrels used in the final blend. The Il Marroneto 2022 Rosso di Montalcino Iacopo has a special story because Alessandro asked his son Iacopo to choose the one barrel that becomes this wine. That process was initiated in 2019 and has been the impetus for this wine ever since. With that first vintage, Iacopo selected a barrel with a slightly darker-colored wine, lots of blackcurrant intensity and a textural profile that veers more toward Brunello than it does Rosso. He has looked to re-create those characteristics in all the vintages to follow. This is a ramped-up expression of Sangiovese with energy, youthful fruit, cassis and blood orange. Drink 2025-2038.

Monica Larner - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Deeply complex, the 2022 Rosso di Montalcino Iacopo wafts up with a cascade of rose petals, incense, cinnamon sticks, spiced citrus rinds and dried black cherries. This is silken in texture with depths of dark red berry fruits that saturate, underscored by saline minerals and spice, all guided by a core of brilliant acidity. The 2022 finishes with tremendous length and a crunchy feel, leaving gripping tannins that tug at the palate. This truly deserves the title of Baby Brunello. What an absolutely stunning wine. The Iacopo is produced from one declassified barrel of Brunello fruit. Drink 2026-2034.

A cask selection made by Alessandro's son, Iacopo, who says it ‘aims for the complexity and depth of a Brunello’. It shows more amplitude than Ignaccio, with depths of dark cherry fruit with some earth, spice and cream, and peaks of really bright and zesty blood orange, and floral overtones. Lovely freshness and impressive complexity. Drink 2026-2034.

The Il Marroneto 2020 Brunello di Montalcino is a wine of special depth and elegance. Alessandro Mori tells me that fermentation in 2020 proceeded nicely with what he describes as a "primordial stew" of grape must, resulting in high pressure "geysers" or "liquid bombs" that rip right through the cap because of pressure build-up. Someone is having tons of fun in the winery. High temperatures (between 36 to 38 degrees Celsius) serve to fix the wine's ruby color and the elegance of its perfumes, which are more floral than fruity. At the end of fermentation, he manages the skins with light wetting by hand with a tube. This vintage offers softness and a silky texture that feels glossy to the palate. Drink 2026-2048.

Monica Larner - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The 2020 Brunello di Montalcino is an understated beauty, slowly emerging with a delicate blend of rose petals, fresh mint, crushed rocks and vividly ripe black cherries. It hovers across the palate, lifted and finessed yet spry, with ripe red berry fruits and hints of lavender, taking on a liquid floral concentration toward the close. Pleasantly chewy and long, the 2020 leaves the senses stained in primary concentration, with a tinge of bitter cranberry and pretty inner florals that resonate over a bed of classically dry tannins. This is a more concentrated and intense yet wonderfully balanced rendition of Il Marroneto's Brunello. Drink 2028-2038.

A restrained wine that’s complex and deep, with aromas of cherry stones, butter, fresh violets, orange peel and prunes. Firm tannins with a grainy texture, yet it has a sweet finish, super-energetic acidity and a full body. Flavors of blood oranges and violets. Perfect balance and incredible aging potential. A super classic. Drink or hold.

‘I'd never seen the green [of the vegetation] like that before’, remarks Alessandro Mori of 2020, putting the vibrancy of the colour down to less pollution as the population remained in their homes. Calling 2020 an easy vintage, much like 2016, the estate now practices accapamento – a ‘wall’ of leaves which act to shade the bunches and also take up some resources, causing the vine to struggle slightly more. There's great freshness here, with coiled potency of vibrant plum and sour and dark cherry at the ripe core. A lick of salinity and a brush of wood accompany silky tannins. One of very few 2020s I have tasted which may be an improvement on the stunning 2019s. Time will tell. Drink 2026-2040.

Highland Park 30 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml) - Older Bottling
    Orkney Islands, SCOTLAND
    $2999. 00

    $35988.00 Dozen
    ABV: 48.1%

Note: Product has come from a private collection and as such has some minor scuffing/scratches/handling marks. Actual product not pictured.

There have been a number of releases of HP 30 over the years, each with slightly different packaging and ABVs. This one was reportedly released around 2009. When Highland Park's robust and oily new make gets extended time in a high proportion of refill and first-fill sherry European and American oak casks, the resulting flavour profile is astonishingly complex. Expect the fudgy sweetness found in the more mature expressions, paired with layers of aromatic spice, dark chocolate orange and floral peat notes. 48.1% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews... What can be more classic and classy than a thirty years old Highland Park? Colour: amber. Nose: burst with a blend of honey, or rather mead, sherry and liquorice as well as with whiffs or peat smoke. Develops more towards burnt brownies and toffee, and then we get quite some menthol and mulled wine (obvious hints of aniseed, for instance) before it returns to a more classical honeyness. It’s funny how the sherry comes and goes, maybe we could call this ‘echoes of sherry’. Ha, poetry! Tends to get a little less expressive over time, which is a little strange. Mouth: rich, fruity, assertive, with the sherry and the mint upfront and a development more on chocolate-coated orange zests, mead once again, lemon squash (unexpected in an old official HP), liquorice and a little peat once again. Finish: rather long, more on smoked tea, with some pepper coming to the front and a half-honeyed, half-vinous signature. Comments: it’s rather more nervous than expected and the first time I tried it blind, I thought it was the 25yo. I feel it’s less rounded and polished than earlier official 30s. Not so much of a classic, after all, but very good ‘of course’. Now, I think I like the 25 a little better. - Serge Valentin, whiskyfun.com

From a very well-known family owned estate with an Italian-Australian heritage, this McLaren Vale winery burst onto the scene in the early 2000’s when the then, world's most powerful wine critic, Robert Parker, lauded many of the wines with scores in the high nineties.
Named in honour of the family’s matriarch, this plush Shiraz was matured in a mix of 25% new French, 5% new American and 70% seasoned oak hogsheads for a period of 16 months.

Oozing with succulence, this rich, seductive McLaren Vale Shiraz is a compelling buy at close to half it’s normal price.

Dense inky black heart with a near equally deep dark red black hue. Heady aromas of liquorice, blackberry and dark plum engulf the nostrils complimented by some vanillin oak, earthy mocha and spice notes. Rich, plush and seductive, the full, weighty palate is swamped with liquorice, blackberry and dark plum fruits that are oozing with succulence. Spicy vanillin oak, subtle earthy mocha and traces of peppered fennel also chime in. Boasting abundant power and a nicely built tannin structure that has a velvety feel, it finishes long and opulent.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.

It revels in its full flex of the variety and the accompanying woody seasoning. Dark fruit, black pepper, cinnamon, clove, turned earth and undergrowth going on. It soars on the pulverised granite grip of tannins and lingers with its epic array of woody spice. Big vibe, big energy, big wine, and great harmony in all that. Classic stuff.

This is immediately appealing on the nose with dark fruit intensity, game, toasted spice, and cedary oak characters. The palate delivers succulent fruit intensity with spicy nuances, splendidly framed by silky texture and polished tannins, making it structured and plush at the same time. At its best: now to 2038.

Named after the matriarch of the *** family, the wine hails from the south-western district of McLaren Vale where much of the *** fruit grows. This is a more demure expression than other Shiraz in the family portfolio, the fruit notes dark blue in tone with subtle vanillin oak integrated now after 20 months maturation in 10% new French and 5% new American barrels. Despite its depths, the palate is quite lively, acidity fresh and flavoursome with its spot on fruit energy, tannins prominent yet balanced with the overall weight of the wine. Most enjoyable.

This is called ‘the new entry level pinot noir’ which is a fun thing at $80 or so, but of course we know the detail here can command such an introduction. From younger vines on the estate. There’s some great DNA of the site, or as I interpret from tasting just about all the releases from this place. Good one.
Delicious. Great drinking. Fine. A good lead of game meat, sappy cherry, green olive, alpine herbs, just-ripe strawberry and a general sense of softness, balance, resolve with its time in bottle and maturation generally. A silty feel to tannin, but relaxed, the wine generally so; long and luxurious in a casual kind of way. A little greenery here, so expect that, coolness and minty flickers. Enjoyable. Named for its location between Mount Macedon and Mount Bullengarook, Between Two Mountains is the most representative expression of the season. In 2023, just one Pinot Noir was produced from the estate, the result of a meticulous selection across the vineyard’s best parcels. A cooler, later season brought a wine of lifted perfume, fine structure, and striking poise.
Whole bunches made up nearly a third of the blend, enhancing the aromatic complexity and spice. Maturation took place over 21 months in a range of Stockinger casks (with minimal new oak impact), as well as glass globe fermenters. Seductive and finely detailed, this should be amongst the most captivating wines yet from this remarkable site.

    Other Reviews....
This is the only pinot noir from 2023 from POCW. About a third is whole bunch across all the clones and sites on the estate vineyard. The wine ends up in Stockinger barrels for 21 months. Serious approach.
A very good wine. Very. Fine, tight, tense, succulent, dark cherry, sour cherry, fennel, blood orange, white pepper, game meat – a lot on, you could keep listing detail but the idea is this is complex, compelling, with everything woven beautifully together. Fruit feels bright and sweet yet just on the cusp, and so fresh, the persistence of all that superb – a touch overtly fruity for those who seek that. An elegance but with a kink of funk and interest. The x-factor we seek. And the personality of place. Stellar. Drink 2025 - 2035.

The 2023 Between Two Mountains Pinot Noir leads with sandalwood and clary sage, cranberry, cigar box and graphite. In the mouth, the wine is loaded with dried herbs, cold tea and wet asphalt, and it lingers long on the palate through the finish. There are also notes of rose petals and cracked pistachios. Texturally, the wine is shaped by sandy tannins that feel both pliable and supportive to the fruit. All things point toward the clarity and focus of this wine being exacerbated by another day open, be sure to give it some air. It was made with around 30% whole bunches and matured for 21 months in a range of Stockinger casks (228, 500, 600 and 1,000 liters) and Wineglobe. 12% alcohol, sealed under Diam and wax. The most powerful Chardonnay yet from Place of Changing Winds. Sourced from minuscule yields of just 144g per vine—well below Grand Cru Burgundy levels—this is a wine of immense drive, depth, and energy. Expect intense ruby grapefruit and quince with creamy lees, exotic spice and a saline, stony finish. Mostly aged in glass globe fermenters with a single new Stockinger barrel.

Everything about this wine oozes restraint and composure. The 2023 Larderdark Chardonnay leads with chalk and florals, citrus pith and musk sticks, crushed nuts and brine. On the palate, the wine is long and enveloping, with no hard edges or angles, and the length is a remarkable thing in and of itself. Pastry, baking spice and dried green herbs emerge. It is quite different in character to the 2022 wine, and personally, I prefer the character of this iteration. However, they are both exceptional wines. It comes from low-yielding vines (144 grams per vine, which is 12 hectoliters per hectare), went through full malolactic and matured in three Wineglobes and one new Stockinger barrique. The oak is apparent but not intrusive, and the sapid core of lime flavor is like bursting a finger lime parcel on the tongue: pure and stinging. This is a beautiful wine here. 974 bottles filled. 12.9% alcohol, sealed under screw Diam and wax. Drink 2026 - 2038.

Very low yields to bring this wine to life. Matured in wine globes (glass) and a Stockinger barrel. The site of course maturing and growing into its personality.
This is a very intense and concentrated wine, rich and unctuous, soft and supple. There’s bold flavour up front, nectarine, red apple, and then a wash of honey-yoghurt, truffle butter and some gentle popcorn notes and touches of brine and a general sense of minerality. The plump flavours and swish of flavour move well up front, the finish a little diffuse and breezy, but has a bit of persistence, in a gentle way. A sense of opulence and yet a sense of washiness to the wine too. Curious. Pleasing drinking, you a good hit of the variety, it just doesn’t prosecute its case in full, despite being full. Open fermented with native yeasts; on skins for 16 days. Classically varietal, this is redolent of cherries, woody herbs and dusty earth notes. The oak ageing (12 months in older French) gives it the palate tension a Chianti-phile might expect. But this is the Vale, and a near-40-year history here makes it a rusted on local, with this an excellent example of why it is so suited – mid-weight, sinewy, fresh, savoury and crying out for food. You’re getting a decent bang for your buck with this classic example of a Margaret River staple, It’s the classic blend but then there’s more. The Savvy came from the cooler Karridale area in the south and 10% of the Semillon was barrel fermented before whole bunch pressing and wild fermentation. You don’t often see that level of winemaking in a wine that sells for $18. The result is a wine that captures the essential fruit energy complemented by that subtle bit of winemaking artifact. Intense but bunchy nose with a rich, supple palate that finishes long and expansive.

This release brings together Bannockburn’s entire spectrum of Pinot vineyards. The 2024 includes fruit from Olive Tree Hill, planted in 1976, 10 Rows (1991), Stuart Block (1997), Anns Block (2004) and the close-planted De La Terre block planted in 2007. All the sites lie in volcanic loam and dark clay over a limestone base and are planted to various clones, mainly MV6 with a smattering of the Dijon (or Bernard) clones. Fruit from each block fermented separately, with approximately 20% bunches included and a small portion undergoing carbonic maceration. The wine was pressed to hogsheads and puncheons (25% new) for 10 months’ maturation.
Dark red core with black shaded edges and a red to dark red hue. The nose is intense but at the same time very bunchy with dried clove infused aromas of dark cherry and strawberry trailed by some smoked meat, forest floor and spicy dried herb notes. Rich supple dark cherry and strawberry fruits are seductively layered across the palate with complexing elements of dried clove, bramble, rhubarb, smoked meat, forest floor and spice lending further interest. Concentrated and powerful it has polished tannins. Lingering through the long expansive conclusion are dried clove and spicy smoked meat characters.

From vines planted between '76 and '07; 20% whole bunches and 25% new oak. A light, bright cherry red. Red fruited, with wild hedgerow, roses and a melange of spices. This is really lifted and perfumed on the bouquet. Light to medium bodied, this builds nicely across the palate with superfine and persistent tannins and bright acidity, giving the wine both structure and length. I can see this filling out very nicely over the next few years. Drink 2025-2033.

All the herbs and spices, of course, but the shells of nuts, woodsmoke, a chicory element and whispers of both black coffee and black tea, all of which swirl around sound, sure-footed cherry-berry fruit flavours. This wine is as complex as it is assured, its sinewy tannin finessed into place, its flavours cascading out through the finish. This will age beautifully, and is best consumed with at least another few years under its belt. Drink 2027-2033+

    Scrumptious benchmark Soave.

The Pieropan winery is in the heart of the Classico zone and dates back to 1890. Leonildo ‘Nino’ Pieropan, who sadly passed away in 2018, was the first to show the world just how great Garganega, and Italian white wine, can be. He recognised the importance of terroir early on, acquiring various hillside vineyards and expanding the prestigious Calvarino and La Rocca vineyards, first made as single vineyard crus in 1971 and 1978 respectively.

Today, sons Dario (winemaker) and Andrea (viticulturist) continue the family tradition. The brothers have converted all of their vineyards to organic and are overseeing the new winery being built amongst the vineyards just outside the village. Made mostly from Garganega grapes with the inclusion of 15% Trebbiano di Soave.
Brilliant pale straw colour with greenish tinged edges and a watery hue. Aromas of pear and red apple skin show plenty of elevation out of the glass with hints of lime, fresh herbs and wet stone also evident. Delicious pear, lime and red apple skin flavours are delivered with ample concentration over a back drop of fresh herb infusions and slatey mineral elements. Crisp acidity with a river stone like feel to the long dry finish.

A young Deanston that's benefited from time in an Oloroso Sherry barrique. For a start, it smells older than it is; the nose has a reserved, dryish malty character, with subtle leather and tobacco mingling amongst the dried fruits. Unexpectedly mouth filling, medium to full bodied, though never aggressive. Creamy notes of tea biscuits are set against a subtle fruity character (orange zest? Ripe papaya?) Good length, ending drier, the oak encroaching. 50% Alc./Vol. Non-chill filtered. Tasted from a 50ml sample.

Notes from the bottlers... Nose: Barley sugar. Biscuit. Vanilla. Oak. Palate: Sweet vanilla. Shortbread. Toasted barley. Finish: Oaky-sweet finish with a vanilla aftertaste.

"This is riiiight up my alley... either Springbank 18 is evolving, or it’s me. Or, well, perhaps both." - whiskyfun.com

The all-Bourbon matured 18 year old makes a return to our shelves with the annual 2024 edition just landed. The last time Serge Valentin from whiskyfun tasted this expression was back in 2020. As noted from his most recent tasting below, these bottlings seem to be getting better and better. The producers note honeyed granola, fruit gums, pear drops and tropical fruits. 46% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.

Other reviews... A freshly bottled edition, August 2024. A sign of the times, you’ll currently find Springbank 18 priced anywhere between €350 and €750 from online retailers, or from €250 on eBay. Of course, this doesn’t change the quality of the liquid one bit. The last one we tasted was the 2020 edition, very good (WF 86) but a far cry from our favourite, the 10-year-old (WF 91 last time) or the younger Local Barleys (also 91). And it's far superior to the ‘Red’, about which we’ll remain silent. Colour: straw. Nose: surprising, heading in the direction of the 10-year-old, with plenty of wet chalk, raw wool, sourdough, aspirin tablets, even bandages, followed by lemon zest, paraffin, a hint of seawater, and traces of tar. This is riiiight up my alley. Mouth: oilier and saltier on the palate, with peat, ashes, a touch of green apple liqueur, and that persistent wet chalk that’s a bit reminiscent of ‘natural’ champagnes. A lovely green pepper then appears, accompanied by small bits of candied lemon, which I find particularly ‘Springbank’. Finish: long, saline, peppery, with fine bitterness and ash, and then paraffined lemon in the aftertaste. Comments: well, either Springbank 18 is evolving, or it’s me. Or, well, perhaps both. 90 points - whiskyfun.com

On the nose very much determined by the bourbon barrel: Ripe yellow fruit, vanilla and flower meadow. Accompanied by very subtle smoke. A wonderfully complex nose. Lots of bright yellow fruits are again present on the tongue. There is also a spicy eucalyptus note and plenty of complexity. A wonderful whisky. Springbank and 100% bourbon simply work brilliantly. One of the best whiskies I've had the pleasure of drinking so far. - whiskybase.com

Notes from the producers... Nose: Tropical fruits are at the forefront in notes of papaya and pineapple. There is a malty, dried barley note, with vanilla and custard creams. Palate: Notes of golden syrup and honeyed granola emerge on the palate, along with fruit gums, pear drops and butter icing. Finish: The tropical fruits carry through to the finish, with the addition of a herbaceous, gorse note and a touch of sea salt.

For a whisky style that's naturally on the sweeter side, this grain has survived time in a Pedro Ximenez sherry barrique without falling flat. A vague pear/apple fruitiness adds freshness to the nose; the flavours come with a mild alcohol flare and notes of cream soda, sponge cake, vanilla, milk chocolate plus late hints of dates. As an experiment in maturation, it has succeeded in fattening up to malt-standards what otherwise might have been a relatively thin affair. Hardly complex, but impressively textural for grain of this ilk. 50% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered. Tasted from a 50ml sample.

Notes from the bottlers... Nose: Aniseed. Creamy. Hint of fennel. Sweet mint. Vanilla pod. Palate: Rich vanilla with crème brulee. More aniseed, slightly herbal. Finish: Custard, creamy finish. Lots of vanilla, raisins and icing sugar.

Earns top marks for elegance at a (reasonably) tiny $25 price tag. Well defined, fine-edged tannins provide structure and the perfect background for the fruit and spice that follows in blackberry, red plum, clove, chocolate panforte, nutmeg and a wealth of lovely, indulgent spice. A good follow up to the elegant ’22 with well-handled, discreet oak a feature across the medium bodied palate. Rich and mouth coating yet energetic with a long driving finish.

In 2003, the Croser family removed 1.3 hectares of the original Tiers Vineyard Chardonnay that was planted in 1979 in the Piccadilly Valley as the first Adelaide Hills vineyard. The area was replanted with the French Bernard clones 76 and 95 on rootstocks, on very close 1.5 metre row spacing with the fruiting wire at only 0.5 metres above the ground. This unique vineyard section produces earlier ripening, fuller flavoured Chardonnay than the old vine Chardonnay on its own roots, across the centre road in Tiers Vineyard.
Brilliant pale straw colour with green tinged edges and a watery hue. Delightful aromas of white peach and nectarine draped with dried honey sail through the nostrils trailed by some citrusy nougat, whiffs of crème brulee and delicate cashew notes. Rich, concentrated fleshy white peach, ripe nectarine, dried honey and citrusy nougat flavours engulf the palate with a mouth coating textural feel. Crème brulee, biscuit and delicate spicy cashew elements sit in the background. Showing outstanding drive, energetic acidity lends a fresh feel to the long, cream tinged finish.

Fruit is picked from a close-planted block that was planted in '03. This is wonderful chardonnay – all finesse, tension, filigreed minerality, light, savoury undertones and pristine, bright green pear, nectarine and pink grapefruit freshness. Touches of nougat, sea spray and green almond in the mesh of characters here. A suggestion of flint and wet slate lend credence and complexity, too. Very precise and energetic, and extends long in flavour and persistence of minerality. Class act. Drink by 2035.

From a close planted block established in 2003. Bernard clones 76 and 95. It’s distinctly different to the Tiers old vine Chardonnay as a result, and I tend to think it’s the clonal selection that’s the biggest point of difference.
Pear, grapefruit, green banana, almond biscotti and spice, bread dough and some honey/floral perfume, with just a tiny bit of matchstick. It’s juicy and flavoursome, but tight in acidity, with a distinctly flinty texture, along with a creamy nougat richness, and a tight citrus finish of excellent length. Wonderful wine. The close spaced planting of this part of the Tiers vineyard imparts a slightly different flavour and textural feel to the Chardonnays from the old Tiers plantings. Intense aromas of tropical fruits, brioche and spices. The palate is ripe and textured although the chalky acid and light citrus edge hold the definition and line through to the long finish. Supremely balanced with the oak and fruit integration seamless and refined. Excellent wine. Drink 2025-2037.

There’s so much tension and purity, with restrained aromas of grilled lemons, gunpowder, flint and white orchard fruit. Juicy fruits with ripe, slightly chewy tannins, bright acidity and a fleshy spiced dried herb laced finish of ample length.

From 60+ year old vines located just across the valley to the north of the winery not far from the famous windmill of Moulin a Vent. The vines here are east facing in granite soil and Moulin a Vent has a high presence of manganese which gives the wine its Moulin a Vent identity. This vineyard is slightly lower on the slope than his holding right in the centre of La Roilette (which sits adjacent to Moulin a Vent and which historically was considered part of Moulin a Vent), and close to the family winery less than 1km away. Always among the richest and deepest of wines with more structure and ageing capacity this cuvee is particularly successful in 2023 with the tannic structure of the wine well covered by the ripeness and fleshy generosity of the vintage. The harvest is all by hand with selection and sorting in the vineyard and winery. Maceration is carried out on 100% whole bunch fermenting semi-carbonic with indigenous yeasts lasting between 15 and 20 days on skins. The grapes are pressed then settled with fermentation continuing for 8 to 10 days, at 18 degrees to trigger the malolactic process. Aging lasts 18 months: 50% in 5-year-old oak barrels and 50% in vats.
Deep dark red black tinged core with a dark red hue. Aromas of ripe strawberry and morello cherry infused with dried herbs mix with some earthy incense and spice like notes. Coming off a range of sites of older vines, this is a bold expression in the range, though the cooler year turns the volume down. The oak is French and American, with 25% new (down from 40% prior), but it leaves its thumbprint, with char, vanilla and clove spicing across a full and rich, though not overly saturated, canvas of brambly berry and plum fruits, along with a little salted chocolate. Built for a loyal cohort, this satisfies the brief. Drink by 2030.

Certified organic and biodynamic this vintage is a blend of 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Cabernet Franc, 2% Merlot, with the balance Malbec and Petit Verdot. Maturation was for a period of 14 months in French oak, 40% of it new.

Put bluntly, this is perhaps the finest young Australian Cabernet I can recall seeing. It is simply brilliant. The blend is 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Cabernet Franc and 2% Merlot, with that last one percent a mix of Malbec and Petit Verdot. The maturation was for fourteen months in French oak, with 40% of it new. An inky dark maroon colour, this is concentrated and seamless. We have aromas of dark, rich chocolate, cocoa beans, plums, beef stock, graphite, mulberries, cloves and blackberries. Elegance and refinement here, this is all class and there is wonderful length, with the wine finishing with the silkiest tannins. There is immaculate balance and amazing intensity and yet the wine dances with freshness and energy. The image that keeps appearing here is Muhammed Ali at his peak, dancing with grace. The more time in the glass or in an open bottle you can give it, the more reward will come. Surely one of the greatest Cabernets made in this country, perhaps Vanya’s best ever, and it confirms that 2023 in Margaret River – a region of seemingly endless fine vintages – is truly special. Why not 100? I do feel it deserves it, but I simply do not trust Vanya not to come up with something even better next vintage.

    Ken Gargett - WinePilot.com

The 2023 Diana Madeline is an exciting wine. The 2023 season was mild, dry and quite spectacular. There was some rain at the very end of the red harvest, and this was a very site-specific thing, not widespread over the region. Aromatically, the wine is intensely perfumed: graphite and pressed lavender, wet rose petals, raspberry pip, licorice, concrete and summer rain. This gives everything that I could hope for in an early-release Cabernet: dark fruit and exotic spice, mineral detail and more. The chalky and fine tannins shape the palate and spool out long over the finish. Is this the finest and best Diana Madeline made to date? Perhaps! What a wine. Highly recommended. It's the perfect example of great Australian Cabernet: power without weight. Look no further. 13.7% alcohol, sealed under screw cap. Drink 2025-2055.
Here, the fruit was handpicked over seven dates, starting middle of March and culminating on a moon opposite the Saturn astral event in early April. The blend is 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Cabernet Franc, 2% Merlot, with the 1% balance comprising Malbec and Petit Verdot.

So much purity and precision, showing aromas of blackcurrants, graphite, violets, cedar and licorice with a core of black fruit intertwined with undertones of spices, bitter chocolate and iron. The wonderfully poised palate has firm yet refined tannins and a plush, midweight mouthfeel. Mouthwatering granitic finish. The structure and tension will develop for decades. Made from 94% cabernet sauvignon, 2% merlot, 3% cabernet franc and touches of malbec and petit verdot. Excellent. Screw cap. Drink or hold.

2023 was a perfect vintage in Margaret River, and the dry-grown fruit for this wine was hand-harvested over seven picks, before wild fermentation. This is in its absolute infancy, and while the fragrant oak might be the first guest to the party right now, the fruit is undoubtedly the life of it. Pretty dried rose petals, crushed graphite, rose hip, fennel seed, a pinch of oriental spice and salted raspberries hint at what lies ahead. Tight-grained oak tannins link arms with fine fruit tannins, and well-paced natural acidity hums along with lilting rhythm. At its core, there is a purity of bright fruit. A wine of understated elegance and immense power behind its poise. The slight ocean brine on the finish calls you back, like a sea siren. Don’t rush – give this a few years before opening and you’ll be rewarded. Drink 2026-2045.

This Diana Madeline delights as soon as it's poured. A deep, dark purple-red and so vibrant. Ah the aromas next – all cedar wood, oak spices and warm earth with fresh mulberries and blackberry essence. It has concentrated, fabulous fruit on the fuller-bodied palate yet there’s a fineness, too, with supple tannins enmeshed in lively acidity. It’s a gorgeous drink. Too young now as it’s still showing off its youthful exuberance. Give this a few more years in the cellar to build more complexity and detail; it's guaranteed to age beautifully for another two or so decades. Drink 2025-2045.

The quality of tannins is part of the great experience, suede, refreshing, persistent, but you can see the pedigree of the wine in detail of dark berry fruits, espresso, mocha, chocolate and liquorice then bay leaf, brine and sea spray, salt bush and mahogany; all this delivers so much to the experience in its layers and layers. It sets out at medium weight and glides, an elegance, a confidence in balance and the harmony on hand. That it is generally just outrageously delicious is the wine’s ace in the hole. Nota bene the dark roast coffee/mocha is noted here and lends a little piquant bitterness and gummy elements in the finish. Quality writ large is the mainstay; top flight stuff. Drink 2027-2045.
