An excellent release from Turkey Flat from the excellent '21 vintage. It's a purely fruited and elegant wine, showing blackberry, blueberry, satsuma plum, bay leaf, cured meats and nicely integrated oak elements. Excellent fruit depth and harmony on the palate, with ripe, silty tannins and a seam of lacy acidity providing freshness and drive. Long finish, too. Very nice indeed. Drink by 2040.

Ursus Roter Sloe Berry Flavoured Vodka (700ml)NETHERLANDS$49. 99Bottle$599.88 DozenABV: 21%Sloes (prunus spinosa) are the blue black fruit of the wild black thorn and cluster like tiny plums in hedgerows and thickets deep in the European countryside. When the berries have been softened by the late autumn sunshine, the best fruit is picked and then steeped in alcohol to make delicious flavoured spirits.
URSUS is the Latin word for ‘bear’. The brand name emphasizes the Nordic heritage of the original formula. In the early 20th century, URSUS Vodka was produced by a traditional Icelandic family of bootleggers. At that time, alcohol distillation was prohibited in Iceland. Nevertheless, they succeeded in perfecting their recipe. In the early 1990s, the URSUS Vodka Company in the Netherlands obtained the original URSUS Vodka recipe from its Icelandic owners and introduced the drink to a broader market. The subtle sweetness of sloe berries results in a delicate, very mixable vodka drink. Enjoy URSUS Roter straight, on the rocks or mixed in your favourite soft drinks or juices. - Notes partially sourced from Ursus Vodka.
Tasting notes: Deep crimson and brown brick color. Fruity, spicy, slightly smoky dark berry pie and light molasses aromas. A soft, buoyant entry leads to a round, fruity medium-to full-bodied palate with tart, ripe dark berry, mineral oil, and wet stone flavors. Finishes with a nice melange of berries and mineral notes with no burn. Pure, deliciously ripe and tart dark fruit riding on top of a smooth, minerally vodka. Superb and fun.21%Alc/Vol

Pedro Ximenez is often referred to as “Black Sherry” due to its dense, dark colour. This is a superb example of the style made entirely from the Pedro Ximenez grape and is a wonderful pairing for chocolate dishes of any sort (or that ‘special’ mid year Christmas celebration being the perfect wine with Christmas pudding). The wine has the viscosity of oil. Very dark sienna brown colour with olive green hue. Superb nose of mollasses, treacle, crushed dried honeyed raisins. Rich and luscious, totally mouthfilling with a silky, oily texture which disolves into honeyed toffee. Layers of treacle and caramel add further depth and complexity to the wine. A delicious fusion of fruit, savoury delight and earthiness, this GSM is absolutely humming. Raspberries, baked blueberries and mulberries are the beating heart of this wine. There is a fabulous tempo and vibe about its carry as it moves and sways through the mouth with ease. The palate is blanketed by generous medium-bodied fruit with fine spices clinging to the edges and tingling long. An earthy undertow courtesy of the Mourvedre is measured and harmonious. Each part of the blend works in unison rather than seeking the limelight and that's precisely why I can't get enough of it. A clever wine that has been made and blended exceptionally well. 2013 Velier Beenleigh Tropical Ageing 10 Year Old Cask Strength Australian Rum (700ml)Queensland, AUSTRALIA$199. 99Bottle$2399.88 DozenABV: 59%Alongside its official bottlings, Beenleigh has begun a collaboration with Europe's La Maison du Whisky and the acclaimed independent bottler, Velier. After two very interesting previous releases (the 2006 15 year old and the 2015 five year old), Beenleigh is following up with a 2013 Single Vintage. Made from molasses produced and processed in Queensland and fermented for 3 - 4 days, the rum was (unusually) 'reverse distilled': First in a single column and then re-distilled in a pot still, similar to those found in Guyana at Demerara Distillers Ltd. It was subsequently aged for a decade in ex-bourbon casks at the distillery in Eagleby, in Queensland's tropical climate, with an angel's share of >25%. This new reference is quite unique in putting Australian rum on the world map. Expect something powerful and spicy. Bottled in 2023, no sugar has been added. 59% Alc./Vol.

W.L. Weller Special Reserve Bourbon Whiskey (750ml)Kentucky, UNITED STATESReduced from $119.99$84. 99Bottle$1019.88 DozenABV: 45%"Almost too soft and easy to drink. A thousand kisses in a glass."
94 points - Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2021Weller is a “wheated” bourbon, meaning that it doesn’t have the spicy rye notes found in a more traditional “ryed” bourbon. Originally created by the Stitzel-Weller Distilling Company, the brand is named after William Larue Weller, a distiller who is credited by some as being the first to use wheat as the secondary grain in bourbon as opposed to the more common rye. The style here is softly spoken on the nose, so give it ample time to open up. Threads of vanilla wafer biscuit, honeycombe and caramel nib weave a silky tapestry across the tongue with a seductively sweet, oily, tea biscuit-like finish where oak adds delicate spice. The overall effect feels elegant, understated. In short, a textural Bourbon that whispers and hints, which for some will make it all the more engaging. If you like wheated styles, put this next on your list. 45% Alc./Vol.
Other reviews... Once a 7 year old product, W.L. Weller Special Reserve no longer carries an age statement, but the wheated bourbon still brings caramel-forward joy and hints of watermelon and fresh-baked bread. Enjoy the short bursts of crème brulee, praline, honey, Jolly Rancher watermelon candy, and a hint of nutmeg, because it’s not there long. You can see the potential. 82 points - maltadvocate.com, reviewed by: Fred Minnick (Spring 2016)
...The bourbon maintains its abundant sweetness on the palate, delivering a tasty yet classic mix of honey, caramel, vanilla, and light fruit. A very slight amount of oak rounds things out. Spice fails to make an appearance, likely a result of the wheated mashbill and relatively low proof, but in doing so, allows the sweet flavors to really come forth. The resulting experience is a nice one, leaving little to complain about aside from its characteristically gentle delivery. - breakingbourbon.com

2022 Wantirna Estate Amelia Cabernet Sauvignon MerlotYarra Valley, Victoria, AUSTRALIA$105. 00Bottle$1260.00 DozenABV: 12.8%Closure: Stelvin2024 marks 61 years since the first vines were planted at Wantirna Estate, established in 1963 on an east-facing slope in Melbourne's southeastern outskirts. Once a mix of orchards, bush, and grasslands, the vineyard thrives today under the care of Maryann, Reg's daughter, though Reg remains actively involved. The wines, named after his four grandchildren, feature labels illustrated by Michael Leunig, reflecting each grandchild's personality—a heartfelt touch to this family-run estate.
The 2022 Amelia Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot is crafted primarily from the original 1963 plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc, with a smaller contribution from Petit Verdot vines planted in 1989. The blend typically consists of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and Cabernet Franc, and 5% Petit Verdot, though proportions vary yearly. The Petit Verdot, harvested last in mid-April, adds tannin and natural acidity. The 2022 vintage showcases Amelia's signature elegance and finesse, with ripe fruit, long tannins, and a balanced palate reflecting the high quality of Cabernets from the region. It is both approachable now and built for aging.Other Reviews....

Philip Rich - Halliday's Australian Wine Companion24% Merlot/Cabernet Franc, 66% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Petit Verdot. This wine weighs in at 12.8%, and in some respects it’s kind of an old school expression of Yarra Cabernet, and it’s making me think about what constitutes great Cabernet, which is kind of unfortunate for me, because thinking too much makes my head hurt. The point I’m trying to make, however, it that I really like this wine, and indeed the style, though I grant you some will maybe find it less to their liking. I see beauty, though some may think it lacks some stuffing.
Blackcurrant and red fruits, tobacco and pencils, quite some violet and rosehip perfume, some camphor, roast red capsicum and dried herb. It’s medium-bodied, firm and finely etched, very ‘minerally’, the acidity is crisp and almost cranberried, the tannin offers some chalky and grainy grip, and it’s long and bright to close. This wine has energy and perfume, and while it’s kind of frisky, I reckon it’s really good. Cellaring will unlock further nuance and beauty. Drink 2027 - 2042+

2015 Warenghem Distillery Armorik Single Cask Australian Exclusive Cask Strength Single Malt French Whisky (700ml)Brittany, FRANCE$199. 99Bottle$2399.88 DozenABV: 58.7%French whiskies are so rarely encountered here that when they do arrive they come with a sense of mystery. Yet, if there are regional challengers to the malts that emerge from Scotland's Western Highlands, then Northern France would have to be one. Whiskies from Brittany can be hugely flavoursome, capturing a sense of place with the freshness of the seashore and a touch of rusticity that's occasionally augmented by varying degrees of peat. Kornog and Warenghem are standouts, the latter offering whiskies under their Armorik label. When the Australian importers visited Brittany earlier in the year, their barrel selection came with a further French twist: Full-term maturation in a cask that previously held Pineau des Charentes - a speciality aperitif of Cognac, generally categorised as a fortified wine (aka 'mistelle' or 'vin de liqueur' in France, however, being a blend of grape must and eau-de-vie it could be argued that the genre is more akin to a liqueur). There is one cask only, all for Australia and the whisky it yielded continues a theme of beautifully rounded, utterly mouthfilling and wonderfully textural malts from Warenghem, this time with a light honey, fruit compote and sponge cake character in the mix. On the palate, poached fruits work to heighten the succulence of the barley before trailing off with lively spices, vanilla and honey. Hints of brine and pepper add vitality to the finish as does a slightly tart quince or citric note. It's wound up in a beautifully integrated delivery that's dangerously easy to drink uncut. With water the profile loses some of its finer points, but fluffs into a deliciously creamy dram. Distilled in October 2015 and bottled in February 2023, the visual presentation might lack sophistication, however the final result has exceeded the importer's expectations. 150 bottles are on offer. 58.7% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.

2011 Watt Whisky MDB2M 12 Year Old Cask Strength Guyana Rum (700ml)GUYANA$199. 99Bottle$2399.88 DozenABV: 57.1%Diamond is the only remaining rum distillery in Guyana, so this is from the same operation that makes the fabulous El Dorado range (amongst others). The barrel in question spent five years ageing in the tropics followed by seven years on the continent. We'd hazard to guess that the mix is majority pot still rums. Overripe tropical fruits melt into milk chocolate, liquorice bullets and molasses cake with grassy, caney notes adding appropriate freshness to the finish. Allow five minutes of air contact and this keeps on giving. The fact that it's unsweetened and carries high alcohol so effortlessly makes this seductive, integrated and perfectly balanced expression an epitome of elegance in the Guyanese category. 264 bottles from an x-whisky barrel. 57.1% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.

Watt Whisky Ben & Sherry 6 Year Old Cask Strength Blended Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)SCOTLAND$119. 99Bottle$1439.88 DozenABV: 57.1%This curious blend of 50% Benrinnes and 50% Glasgow single malts has a dry, nutty sherry influence of a kind rarely encountered nowadays; Vaguely sulphury notes, like pencil eraser or matchbox are followed in a warm, grassy profile including traces of walnuts, ginger biscuits and sulphur. Tasted blind you might pick it as young Auchroisk. A somewhat old fashioned composition that nevertheless grows on you. 282 bottles from a butt. 57.1% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.
Notes from the bottlers... Rich Sherry, dark cherries, soft black pepper, liquorice and marmalade.
Other reviews... This hippy whisky combines fifty percent Benrinnes and fifty percent Glasgow Dist. Let’s try to avoid overly frosty commentary. Colour: Nose: an unusual start, quite fermentary, with notes of cooked vegetables, courgettes, and even Brussels sprouts. Then comes saltpetre, soot, cherry stalks (in herbal tea), and roasted aubergines. It’s very polarising, as they say. With water: still those cooked vegetables, but now joined by honey and slightly "evolved" dried figs. Mouth (neat): more sherry-driven, but spicy and almost fizzy. Think chilli-infused Schweppes, kirsch straight off the still, pink grapefruits, and braised cabbage. With water: it settles down, revealing walnuts, baked apples, marmalade, tobacco, honey, and sweet peppers. Finish: similar, and it lingers for a good while, with a peppery aftertaste. Comments: don’t be fooled—my notes may seem odd, but this little UFO is rather charming, taking you on a journey from Brussels sprouts to meadow honey. Almost a thriller. 86 points - whiskyfun.com

Gee, I do love Gippsland pinot noir. This is beautifully modulated with a deeper, richer fruit profile, although it's far from fruity. In youth it simply shows more primary elements. A whorl of dark cherries, pips and black plums with pomegranate molasses, sweet spices and lots of autumnal fragrance – the earth and damp leaves. Lovely tannins, fresh acidity and, while it will last some distance, lovely now. Drink by 2036.

One thing appealing with the pinots from Bill Downie is that they are immediately drinkable and deliciously so. Another difficult vintage on the Peninsula but this has a balance of aromas, flavours and texture. Dark red cherries, blood orange and zest with sumac and brown spices plus fresh herbs and a pinch of Italian bitter herbs, too. It’s a savoury wine. At the time, the aim was to produce additional fruit for the successful Wilson Polish Hill River Riesling but the vineyard had other ideas. From the first vintage it was immediately obvious that the DJW vineyard was quite different from the Polish Hill River vineyard. The grapes and bunches were larger and the vineyard produced a spectrum of flavours that had their own unique qualities. Of all the wines in the Yalumba Grenache collection, for me, this is the value pick. A cracking wine which is seriously good buying. The two blocks were harvested for the wine, with the first seeing 40% whole bunch fermentation and the second 33%. A garnet/crimson colour, the nose is utterly gorgeous. This is Grenache on steroids. Strawberries and cream, florals, bergamot, spices and cherries. Take everything that is good about Grenache and it is jam-packed into this wine. There was no 2020 Signature made. The year was very hot, and the Cabernet Sauvignon wasn't in the condition that the winemaking team wanted for the Signature; that decision was made early-on in the season. The 2021 The Signature Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz is vibrant and fresh on the nose, and it leads with cassis, raspberry and pink peppercorns. It's alive and electric with flavor. 2021 was a lovely season in the Barossa: cool, mild and long, with very little climatic pressure to pick prior to when producers deemed the fruit ready. There are hints of strawberry, scraped vanilla pod, coffee grounds and star anise. I really like the aperture of this wine, with its definition, focus and freshness. 14.5% alcohol, total acidity 6.06, pH 3.63, sealed under natural cork. Drink 2024-2041.

Subtle fresh herb and peppered earth notes are also evident. Super juicy and intensely flavoured, rich red to dark raspberry, red liquorice and cherry fruits explode across the exuberant palate with delicate infusions of dried herbs, scorched earth and pepper the undercard. Magnificent power and silky tannins with fresh acidity lending an energetic feel to the long super succulent finish. Highly addictive drinking over the next 5-6 years.

This is the younger vine bottling, coming mainly off vines planted in '08. Up to three weeks on skins; maturation in steel and old puncheons and foudre. This is a nice foil to the Old Vine bottling, showing what relatively youthful vines can do on this great site. There’s an open red-berried and cherry fruitfulness, with red florals supported by savoury spice and a foundation of purposeful natural tannin. This doesn’t have the mineral depth of the Old Vine, but the fruit vibrancy and exuberance yield their own rewards. Drink by 2030.

2023 Yering Station ChardonnayYarra Valley, Victoria, AUSTRALIA$32. 99Bottle$395.88 DozenCellar: Drink now - 5 Years (2024-2029)ABV: 13.2%Closure: StelvinThe site of Victoria’s first vineyard, the Rathbone Family have built Yering Station into one of Yarra Valley’s leading estates. This brilliantly composed Chardonnay sees maturation in a mix of new (22%) to 6 year old French oak puncheons for a period of 8 months.
A beautifully refined and sophisticated Yarra Valley Chardonnay.
Brilliant pale straw colour with subtle green highlights around the outskirts and a watery hue. Ascending through the olfactory senses are delightful aromas of white peach, nectarine and dried honey which are complimented by hints of biscuity oak, citrusy nougat and spice. Mid weighted and nicely fleshed, the palate features white peach and nectarine fruits over a dried honey, biscuity nougat, cashew and spice back drop. Showing ample freshness and a gently creamed feel it finishes long and refined.
Drink over the next 4-5 years.

Barrel fermented and matured in puncheons (22% new). No mlf. Bright green gold. A touch richer and more complex than the very good Village Chardonnay. An attractive nose of stone fruits, orange blossoms and grilled nuts leads onto the palate, which has good depth and persistence. There's a little orange pith on the long, refreshing finish. Drink by 2029.

Philip Rich – James Halliday’s Australian Wine CompanionMatured in 500L puncheons for 8 months of which 22% was new oak. Golden peach and nectarine flesh, sunflower and kernel. Lemon aspen and pineapple nectar. Summer frangipani blooms. Like a giving tree this wine bestows without being buxom and relying on oak for its breadth. It’s pure fruit heaven. Picked with free flowing acidity and supported by vanilla cake and grated nutmeg oak nuances. It’s still light on its feet but will satisfy the chardonnay drinker who chooses wine based on taste and substance. Serve alongside a homemade salmon quiche.

A liquid dynamite, pleasure bent Grenache.
Deep black dark red core with black tinged edges and a red to dark red hue. Intense red to dark raspberry, red liquorice and dark cherry aromas flood the nostrils followed by notes of fresh herbs, subtle incense and peppered earth. Rich, exuberant and succulent the lavish palate is awash with a super concentrate of dark to black raspberries, dark cherries and liquorice that possess incredible torque and dynamite like power. Clairin Communal Blend (700ml)HAITI$89. 99Bottle$1079.88 DozenABV: 43%If you can't decide which Clairin to choose, 'Communal' resolves that with a blend of four Clairins: Sajous, Vaval, Casimir and Le Rochers. Pungent, fruity-yet-fresh openings turning briney, caney, grassy, evolving white pepper, candle wax and plantain-like scents over 2-3 minutes of swirling… Silky yet concentrated. Off-dry, bready, waxy, briney flavours are perfectly balanced by an invigorating, vibrant finish hinting at prunes, raisins and late marzipan. Another brilliant Clairin that pretty much clocks the white rum flavour wheel. 43% Alc./Vol.

1993 Claxton's Dalswinton Series Clynelish 30 Year Old Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)Highlands, SCOTLAND$1499. 00Bottle$17988.00 DozenABV: 44.4%Clynelish of this ilk is very, very rare, so no wonder it was one of the first Dalswintons to sell out at Claxton's. Situated on the North East coast of Scotland, the distillery is renowned for creating a truly unique, rich, waxy distillate. This bottling is said to be true to form, with that distinctive waxy profile still present after thirty years, yet bursting with fresh stone fruits. Importantly, it's matured in a Bourbon Barrel, which in our opinion best suits Clynelish. The image on the decanter is linked to John “The Red” Comyn. It is recorded in local folklore that, in 1306, Comyn sunk his treasure in Comyn’s Pool on the Dalswinton Estate just before meeting his death during a confrontation with Robert the Bruce, the future King of Scotland. 44.4% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.
Other reviews... "A very precise, meticulous single malt....Not the waxiest of Clynelish (but certainly infinitely more waxier than your average malt). It’s very chiseled. There’s a sliver of white pepper, hints of pear, some peach and finally bitter herbs... Almost exactly what you’d hope for from a Clynelish this age. Not too much cask influence, just straight-up barley juice." - wordsofwhisky.com
Notes from the bottlers... Nose: Tablet and vanilla fudge. Waxed hard fruits. Vanilla pods. Palate: weet and herbal with a waxy-fruitiness and a mild oakiness. Finish: Hint of tobacco, fresh bread and a softly spicy aftertaste.

1992 Claxton's Dalswinton Series Bowmore 30 Year Old Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)Islay, SCOTLAND$1999. 00Bottle$23988.00 DozenABV: 43.5%This follow up to Claxton's inaugural 29 year old from the previous collection promises another shining example of the island distillate. We've mentioned before that Bowmores from the mid to late 1990s are considered some of the distillery's best. Prior to that (unless you're talking about legendary bottlings from the 1960s), Bowmore can be notoriously inconsistent. Serge Valentin of whiskyfun.com explains, "...a possible change of distillation regime around the end of the 1970’s or early 1980’s until the early 1990’s (it seems) changed the malt’s profile quite a lot, putting off quite some whisky lovers because of ‘new’ perfumy smells and flavours (lavender, geranium, heady violets) and a loss of phenolic/peaty components". Going by tasting notes from Claxton's et al, this 1992 distillation avoids these pitfalls, placing it in league with some of the most sought-after expressions that showcase Bowmore's elusive tropical fruit character. In short, a text book and very sought-after example. Oloroso sherry cask matured, the decanter depicts when Patrick Miller (owner of the Dalswinton Estate) and Robert Burns first met in 1786. Eventually, this led to Burns moving locally, taking up tenancy at Ellisland Farm with Miller as his landlord. 43.5% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.
Other reviews... More of that Bowmore deliciousness. Initially it’s the barley and peat taking the lead. Hints of peanut skins too, as well as some vanilla custard. But then the tropical fruits take over and lift this whisky to new stratospheres. There’s grapefruit, definitely papaya, but also pineapple. Delicate but not frail, this Bowmore confirms my belief in the distillery. Not that it needed confirming. I believe I've written this before, but Bowmore is my platonic ideal of what single malt whisky can be. - wordsofwhisky.com
Notes from the bottlers... Nose: Heavy BBQ notes. Sweet peaty notes. Coastal–cooked seaweed. Palate: Tropical fruit and peat mingle with a sugary-sweetness and soft oak. Finish: Slightly menthol with a long lingering soft smokiness in the aftertaste.

1988 Claxton's Dalswinton Series Highland Park 35 Year Old Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)Orkney Islands, SCOTLAND$1999. 00Bottle$23988.00 DozenABV: 43.2%Like Macallan, people have strong opinions about Highland Park: what it used to be, what it could be, what it should be. Official releases continue to hit some serious age statements, however, they're generally not 'all-naturale' and remain beyond the reach of most wallets (we note a recent 40 year old retailing for over 8K at the time of writing). Putting this bottling into further perspective, it's received significant praise from seasoned tasters, ranging from "a proud age, it is also complex and extremely entertaining", through to "A great old-school Highland Park" (whiskynotes.be) and "I think this is the most beautiful Highland Park I have ever had the pleasure to drink." (whiskybase.com). So if you're in the market for an iconic Orcadian in classic form, and at a very reasonable price, look no further. Claxton's capture the distillate's distinctive heather-infused smoky style that's also rich, malty, and spicy at the same time. The image on the bottle references the Landale family's purchase of the Dalswinton Estate in 1919. Over the last 100 years, they've developed the manor house, buildings and surrounds into an illustrious rural property, as pictured on the decanter. Oloroso sherry matured. 43.2% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.
Other reviews... A great old-school Highland Park. Perhaps a little delicate on the palate, so no need to add water, but certainly delicious. It reminded me of the Highland Park 1988 from Signatory Vintage. - whiskynotes.be
...A very mature, well-integrated malt... Better than I even remembered. A style of whisky only achieved after long maturation, and even then you need good new make to begin with. You can leave that up to Highland Park. - wordsofwhisky.com
Notes from the bottlers... Nose: Rich fruits; cooked apples, pears, prunes. Sweet tobacco with a hint of peat. Palate: Malty and rich with soft spices and oak. Fresh melon and sweet sherry notes. Finish: More rich fruit with heather peat and an oaky-spice aftertaste.

Deep purple/ruby-hued, the 2019 Clos Manou has a terrific bouquet of ripe red and black fruits as well as cedar pencil, savory flowers, spice box, and tobacco. Gorgeously balanced and medium to full-bodied, with ripe, present tannins and both elegance and richness, it's one heck of an impressive Médoc readers should snatch up. It will easily keep for 10-15 years. Drink 2022-2037.

JebDunnuck.comFrom an 18-hectare estate planted at a density of around 10,000 vines per hectare, the 2019 Clos Manou is a serious wine. Unwinding in the glass with aromas of dark berry fruit, cigar wrapper, licorice and espresso roast, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and layered, with terrific concentration, lively acids and plenty of ripe, powdery tannin that will reward a bit of bottle age. It's closed with an Ardeaseal technical cork as used by Burgundy's Domaine Ponsot among others. This estate merits a mention in any list of Bordeaux's finest under-the-radar producers. Drink 2025-2050.

Colonel E.H. Taylor 100 Proof Small Batch Bourbon Whiskey (750ml)Kentucky, UNITED STATESReduced from $240.00$149. 99Bottle$1799.88 DozenABV: 50%"the epitome of truly great Bourbon." - Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2023
These BIB releases are what Australian Bourbon lovers really miss out on. Even if you can find them, the prices are often prohibitive. Score one as good as this and the deal gets sweeter. From a fresh bottle, it's a little prickly and smells like varnish, leather and hazelnuts, but later goes deeply caramelly, nutty, dried fruit and Bounty Bar-like after additional exposure. Spirity and warm, though not without a serious injection of sugars; by mid palate it turns buttery, maple-like, rounded, even soft. The finish offers toasted tea biscuits, bitter chocolate, crushed mint and a gentle, oaky astringency. The reigned-in spirit is nicely harmonised and the quality of the wood really shines. You have to love the evolving character of this ballsy, compelling, and at moments, luscious Bourbon that demands patience to show its very best. 50% Alc./Vol. No mash bill stated.

F. Paul Pacult's Spirit Journal rating: 5 stars/Highest Recommendation.
...The mouthfeel is nicely balanced and more floral than I expected based on the nose. Overall fantastic in terms of being not too heavy, not too light, just the perfect balance that allows you to hold it in your mouth and really chew on it. It’s not overly complex, but that doesn’t make it any less enjoyable... E.H. Taylor Small Batch is really a contrasting bourbon. On one hand you have a really full-flavored bourbon that can almost go head to head with it’s bigger brother E.H. Taylor Single Barrel and holds it’s own. On the other hand you're paying slightly more for the presentation of the packaging for the bourbon it contains. While I wish this sold for [a little] less, there’s no denying that it’s a really solid bourbon that most individuals will enjoy. The palate is delectable and sans the heavy alcohol upfront, the overall flavor profile is enjoyable. If you haven’t had a chance to experience this yet make sure to seek it out, as it truly is a good introduction into the E.H. Taylor line of whiskeys. - breakingbourbon.com
