2017 Hazelburn Oloroso Cask Matured 8 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
"...a very impressive release, especially at only 8 years old." - whiskybase.com
A chance to pick up a fully Oloroso matured whisky from Springbank where the sherry isn't too dominant. It also showcases Springbank's ability to squeeze the most out of just eight years in barrel. Despite its youth, consensus is that this is a terrific Hazelburn. 10,500 bottles produced. 48.2% Alc./Vol. Non-chill filtered.
Other reviews... One of the best Hazelburns I've ever tasted. The nose was already a fantastic experience, and I didn't expect this 8-year-old to be so good. This one is definitely going into my collection. Hopefully, it'll still be available when I'm back at the distillery. Nose: A true wow moment and a huge smile on my face. Red fruit, dark chocolate, coffee beans, strawberry, licorice, orange peel, complex dark notes. Just what you'd expect from an Oloroso cask. Taste: Honey drop, liquorice, wooden barn, blueberries and tree bark. Finish: Licorice, red fruit, long finish that definitely lingers for a while so you can enjoy it a little longer. - whiskybase.com
...I've had this a few times now and every time it surprises me. On paper - Hazelburn, 8 years old, sherry, fairly low ABV - this would appear one of the "friendlier" type of whiskies coming out of the Springbank distillery, but the reality is the complete opposite of an easy dram. It's bone dry, salty, slightly tannic on the palate and filled with a slight peatiness/Springbank funk/cigar box/engine oil type of vibe on the nose. Only in the finish do you start getting a bit of sweetness. Absolutely jam packed with flavour and smell too. I think this is a very impressive release, especially at only 8 years old. - whiskybase.com
...A great nose, which reaches more or less the same heights as some considerably older expressions. On the palate it gets a little rougher with the youth and oak shining through. Overall a nice release though. - whiskynotes.be
