Darnley's View Gin (700ml)Edinburgh, UNITED KINGDOM$79. 99Bottle$959.88 DozenABV: 40%Launched in 2010, Darnley’s View is a creation from the Wemyss Whisky Company in Fife. The name celebrates the moment in 1565 when Mary Queen of Scots spied her future husband, Lord Darnley, at the family’s home, Wemyss Castle in Fife, Scotland. The producer's note the botanical break down as follows:
"Juniper- In our gin the distinctive pine, lavender camphor-like flavour of the juniper berry is the keynote around which all the other botanicals are built. We select the most aromatic, oil rich berries which grow in Southern Europe. Lemon Peel - Lemon peel dried in the Spanish sunshine adds a fresh crisp bite. Elderflower- Elder trees grow freely on our Scottish estate. The delicate fruity flavours of elderflower are not only a reminder of our Scottish heritage, they also add an extra special floral dimension to our gin. Coriander Seed - Coriander seed from Morocco contributes warm, gingery, sage like flavours and a soft spiciness. Angelica Root - The woody notes of dried angelica root from France helps to make our gin dry. Orris Root - We source our orris from the Benelux countries and its aromatic fragrant notes contribute earthy complex flavours and hints of Parma Violet." Tasting note: Light, fresh and elegant on the nose with understated liquorice notes amid dried juniper and faint citrus peel. A delicate entry leads into a light to medium bodied juniper / coriander and subtle anise profile. Concludes lean, dry and almost neutral like vodka. A well made alternative to robustly styled gins. 40% Alc./Vol. Other reviews... Fresh, delicate fragrance of anise and coriander. This light-bodied, soft gin has a clean, brisk finish with anise and eucalyptus notes. A beautiful small-batch gin.

Dasher + Fisher Mountain Gin (700ml)Tasmania, AUSTRALIA$89. 99Bottle$1079.88 DozenABV: 43%Burgess' "Mountain gin" is his Tassie riff on the classic London Dry. This full bloodied, juniper-bomb takes in 11 botanicals with a starring role given to the native pepperberries harvested from the foothills of the Blue Tier, as well as herbs found on the way to Cradle Mountain. It's a wildly fragrant shot of alpine freshness, with deep, lingering zingy coriander and earthy liquorice latching expertly onto the musky, piney juniper, and topped off by the zing of the mountain pepper.
Tasting note: Ripe, juniper-forward bouquet is menthol-fresh with aromas of pine needle, pepper and sea spray; follows through to a concentrated, medium dry burst of fresh juniper, black pepper and liquorice root with a coriander accented finish. Deaths Door Gin (700ml)Washington Island, Wisconsin, UNITED STATES$99. 99Bottle$1199.88 DozenABV: 47%Washington Island was once known for potato farming. Its “spuds” made their way around the world and were celebrated for their quality and flavour. Then in the early 1970s, vertical integration left Washington Island farmers without contracts. Without customers, they switched to other jobs that were either more tourism-based, or else they moved off the island to find work.
In 2005, a small group of like-minded people began reinvigorating the island's agriculture. Armed with enough seeds & know-how to plant five acres, brothers Tom and Ken Koyen began growing wheat. What started as grain to use as flour at the Washington Island Hotel grew into a select specialty for use in Capital Brewery’s Island Wheat Ale and all of Death’s Door distillery spirits.
This is a classic London Dry style, but with a surprisingly simple botanical mix of organic juniper, coriander and fennel. Like Death's Door vodka, it employs a base of organic Washington Island wheat and organic malted barley from Chilton, Wisconsin.
In case you're wondering, the distillery's peculiar name refers to the body of water between Door County Peninsula and Washington Island. Potowatami and Winnebego tribesmen originally coined the waterway.

Distilleries de Provence XII Dry Gin (700ml)FRANCE$99. 99Bottle$1199.88 DozenABV: 42%Distillerie de Lure, founded in 1898 at Forcalquier in Provence has had a succession of owners for nearly 80 years, amongst whom was Henri Bardouin, a man with a passionate interest in plants and herbs. In 1974, Alain Robert and his small team took the helm of the company now known as Distilleries et Domaines de Provence. Their new gin is named in reference to the twelve plants and spices that go into its creation. The style leans towards classic London Drys. Taking full advantage of its Haute-Provence terroir, botanicals include thyme, rosemary, basil, eucalyptus, sweet almond and mint which join forces with small juniper berries to express the aromatic equivalent of a stroll through the garrigue. Tasted from a 30ml sample, you're greeted by a delightful bouquet of dried herbs, in particular fresh thyme, rosemary and distant juniper. A crisp, drier styled gin, it fans out in the mouth and ends with bittersweet herbs and delicate peppermint, piney juniper and tingling peppers. Herbaceous, fresh, well structured and elegant - not only good Martini material but a gin that genuinely reflects terroir and evokes a sense of place. 42% Alc./Vol.

Dodd's Old Tom Organic Gin (500ml)London, UNITED KINGDOM$79. 99Bottle$959.88 DozenABV: 46%"Old Tom" refers a slightly sweetened gin. For some, it's a style bridging the gap between 'London Dry' gin and aged Genever. However, unlike the majority of Old Toms, Dodd's don't add sugar. Instead, they rely on a high dose of liquorice to impart natural sweetness. Produced from an organic grain base, Dodd's Old Tom foregoes the London honey and red raspberry leaf of the original recipe. Instead, there's fennel seed and lemon peel to support the liquorice sweetness. Tasting note: Interesting and unusual aromas evocative of potpourri, in particular lavender, thyme and light cardamom over lemon verbena and emerging liquorice root. Some earthy / musty / moss-like notes too. Exceptionally pure, with a silky delivery including dried herbs, juniper, lemon gelato and a vibrant coriander-pepper-light liquorice finish. Pine needle and potpourri late in the aftertaste. An intriguing and distinctive assemblage of flavours. 46% Alc./Vol. -

Dodd's Kew Explorer's Strength Organic Gin (700ml)London, UNITED KINGDOM$115. 00Bottle$1380.00 DozenABV: 57.3%The original Kew gin was a collaboration between Dodd's and the Royal Botanic Gardens.
This Explorers' Strength version is Darren Rook's 'navy strength' tribute to the Victorian-era botanists of the Royal Botanic Gardens, those who have scoured the globe to bring back rare botanicals since 1795. Where the Kew Organic highlights a complex, citrusy expression of London gin, the Explorers' Strength takes you on a more robust spice trail featuring cinnamon, nutmeg, cubeb berry and Sichuan pepper. Distilled in Dodd's 140-litre copper alembic, 'Christina', this includes 15 organic botanicals, split between spice and citrus (bergamot, orange, grapefruit and lemon peel), with some botanicals sourced from the gardens itself. Unlike the Kew Organic, a marriage of four separate distillations, Explorers' Strength is distilled in the classic one shot fashion. Tasting note: Clear. Issues a superb bouquet of super-fresh pine needle, herbal tea, orris root and muted citrus. Follows through to a creamy-yet-intense juniper, cool-mint and potpourri attack with blackpepper and exotic spices building towards the finish. Like a gin cough lozenge, this almost melts in your mouth. Seriously good. 57.3% Alc./Vol. -

Dodd's Gin (500ml)London, UNITED KINGDOM$94. 99Bottle$1139.88 DozenABV: 49.9%Dodd's is The London Distillery Company's first gin produced solely in Battersea, London, named after Ralph Dodd, who back in 1807 had planned to build a distillery in London for the creation of local spirits. Like his attempt to build a tunnel under the Thames, the project ultimately collapsed.
The gin itself is made exclusively with organic botanicals, including juniper, angelica, fresh lime peel, cardamom, red raspberry leaf, bay laurel, and honey from The London Honey Company.
At just under 50% Alc./Vol. expect a full bodied, punchy style that might be better matched to tonic rather than on its own.
"TLDC" is also proud to be London's first whisky distillery since Lea Valley closed its doors for the final time over a century ago. We look forward to seeing that!Tasting note: [Batch 158 tasted] Clear, showing noticeable viscosity. Unusual opening scents are fish-oil / baked salmon-like, then vaguely herbal with suggestions of dill? Thyme? Liquorice root? Extra time finds background juniper, dried eucalyptus leaf, balsa wood and coriander. Fresher still with further exposure. A viscous, oily entry; turns gently bittersweet at the mid palate stage with juicy juniper / coriander seed and white pepper. Ends pure, clean with subtle lingering citrus oils. Unfolds in stages. Complex and confident. 49.9% Alc./Vol.

Dodd's Kew Organic Gin (700ml)London, UNITED KINGDOM$89. 99Bottle$1079.88 DozenABV: 46%A collaboration between Dodd's Gin and the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. Seasonal harvested flora from the garden is hand selected and transported to the distillery near Tower Bridge, just minutes from the City of London, before being distilled in Dodd’s 140 litre copper alembic. Two types of organic Juniper are used (Bulgarian and Tuscan) as well as five types of citrus – lemon, lime, pink grapefruit peel, orange peel and bergamot peel. From the Kew Gardens a range of botanicals have been foraged including santolina, rosemary, lavender flower, galangal and passion flower. The gin is crafted from four individual distillations, grouped according to botanical character, which are then married together to create a "quintessential London gin". Tasting note: Brilliant clarity. Drier styled aromas are increasingly intense with fresh piney juniper, citrus oils, white pepper. Air contact accents the woody, juniper / chamomile tea-like notes and adds a hint of liquorice root. Mildly oily delivery with ripe juniper / juicy citrus zest followed by gently bitter peel, lemon tart and vibrant peppery warmth lingering in the aftertaste. Classic London Dry.46% Alc./Vol. -

Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin (500ml)IRELAND$69. 99Bottle$839.88 DozenABV: 43%Not only in Australia, but overseas as well, the gin market is experiencing steady growth with consumption in Europe alone forecast to increase by 12.3% by 2019. New players are emerging from all quarters. This novel release is made in the "Shed Distillery", Drumshanbo, Co Leitrim which is the first distillery in the West of Ireland in over 101 years. Opened in 2016 by the team of PJ Rigney and his wife Denise (inventors of Sheridan’s Irish Cream and Boru Vodka), the venture is already busy creating a range of spirits, including whiskey and gin. Rigney adds, “The international market is now looking for super-premium brands that stand apart, with unique heritage and unrivalled quality & taste. There’s huge international excitement about this new gin and we already have some pre-orders from China.” Handcrafted through slow distillation in a gleaming medieval copper pot still fired by steam, Rigney expands on the production process for his gin: "Various oriental fresh citrus and leaves (gunpowder tea) are added into the 3 layer infusion basket, which lies in the vapour pathway between the still and the condenser. Steam is gently applied. The vapour rises through the unique shape of the medieval head, which allows maximum copper contact, which cleans and purifies the spirit. The vapour exits the still and passes into the infusion basket, where it gently extracts the oils and aromas from the citrus and tea. Boiling in the still would extract bitter compounds from these ingredients, whereas vapour infusion only extracts the aromatic oils. The vapour passes into the condenser and is condensed down into our gin at approx. 75%. We take an early cut so as to avoid any harshness that tends to come off further into the distillation. The gin is allowed to rest for a week, which allows the oils and alcohol to infuse and for flavour to develop. It is then diluted to 43% with filtered water and gently filtered for clarity." The keynote here is 'Gunpowder Tea' (Camellia sinensishis) - a green tea that's been slowly dried then carefully rolled into shiny pellets. The flavour is bold and bright with a slight spicy freshness. Other botanicals include juniper, angelica, orris, caraway, coriander, meadowsweet, cardamom and star anise as well as vapour infused oriental lemon, lime and fresh grapefruit. Tasting note: Intense aromas of blackpepper, lemon peel and juniper in the opening pass. Later inhalations detect hints of orris root, cinnamon and chamomile tea. Follows through with robust flavours of liquorice root, cardamom, background juniper and a warming, vibrant, peppery finish with late juniper and liquorice through the aftertaste. A flavourful, spicy style that will hold up to mixing. 43% Alc./Vol. Notes from the producer: "Delightfully fresh and rounded up front with citrus, juniper & spicy notes immediately evident. The expected Juniper follows close behind. Gunpowder Tea, meadowsweet & Coriander are all notable. The overall impression is of a very well balanced and surprising gin." 43% Alc./Vol. - Dunnet Bay Distillers Rock Rose Citrus Coastal Gin (700ml)SCOTLAND$99. 99Bottle$1199.88 DozenABV: 41.5%
Flavourful, fresh and zesty with a bracing sea air finish, Dunnet Bay's Coastal Citrus gin was originally distilled as an exclusive for Scotland's Craft Gin Club in August 2020. It was so well received, they decided to make it part of the core range. Inspired by the Caithness coastline and is created using locally foraged kelp sourced from the Hebridean Mustard Company, botanicals include Shore Seaweed and salt blended with pure liquorice root and aniseed. Lemon verbena is also in the mix - a perennial woody shrub with a bright citrus flavour. The result is an incredibly smooth gin with a delectably sweet taste and a delicious salted edge. 41.5% Alc./Vol.
Notes from the producers... NOSE: Warm juniper notes giving way to bright lemon and verbena notes. PALATE: Fresh citrus balanced with oceanic umami flavour of kelp. FINISH: A hint of salinity coming through from the liquorice salt with more citrus on the finish.

[Batch 3 tasted] Zesty with pink grapefruit and piney juniper to the fore.... far from sweet. In fact, despite the added sugar we consider this a dry gin. 4.5 stars - diffordsguide.com

East London Liquor Co. Ltd Classic London Dry Gin (700ml)London, UNITED KINGDOM$79. 99Bottle$959.88 DozenABV: 40%The signature gin from the East London Liquor Company, a distillery based in Bow Wharf, and founded in late 2012 by Alex Wolpert. Made with 100% British wheat spirits and infused with lemon, grapefruit peel, coriander, angelica root, juniper berries, cubeb berries and cardamom. Distillation takes place in a state of the art 450 litre copper pot still, custom designed and hand built in Germany by Arnold Holstein. The company employs a "one shot method" - that is, they don’t macerate the botanicals prior to distilling, rather, once the still is loaded with ingredients and base spirit, it’s gently heated up and the process begins. Jamie Baxter, whose other projects include Chase Gin and Burleigh’s Gin, kickstarted the production.
The gin pours with a viscous, crystal clear appearance and yields a generous perfume of ripe lemon, light cardamom and coriander becoming sweet lemon meringue-like in later inhalations. It's full and nicely rounded in the mouth with a silky, mildly oily texture and a burst of juniper, lemon barley sugar and pepper that finishes long, balanced and fresh with hints of cardamom in the fade. This immensely appealing spirit also boasts a concentration that defies its low ABV. 40% Alc./Vol.

East London Liquor Co. Ltd Barrel Aged Gin (700ml)London, UNITED KINGDOM$135. 00Bottle$1620.00 DozenABV: 52%First launched in 2016, this barrel aged gin is rested in oak for several months before bottling (maturations will vary from batch to batch). The quality of the wheat base spirit really comes through. Tasting note: Frail straw-gold colour is almost water like. Super pure aromas include high pitch juniper, grapefruit and low key vanilla. Air contact turns this attractively herb-like evolving notes of thyme, lavender and cardamom. Quite relaxed given the ABV; flavours of peel heavy marmalade, citrus oils and piney-juniper. Spices up momentarily becoming softer to finish as trace juniper, dried herbs and hints of anise enter. Keenly tuned barrel input with all the right notes retained. Outstanding. 52% Alc./Vol. - Edgerton Original Pink Gin (700ml)London, UNITED KINGDOM$79. 99Bottle$959.88 DozenABV: 43%Martin Edgerton Gill, formerly owner of the London Gin Company, discovered that whilst superb taste in the glass is key to the long term success of a liquor brand, colour really works. His creation, the world’s first blue gin “London No 1 Blue” sold in 2010 to Gonzalez Byass of Spain has been a huge success. Rather than retire on the sale of London Gin, he decided to explore the possibilities of a pink gin. Gill, who had pioneered herbal teas in the nineteen eighties used his considerable knowledge of herbs and spices to create a totally new and contemporary pink gin. Quite apart from the enticing rosiness it is a delightful and complex gin blended with no less than fifteen exotic ingredients including pomegranate. 47% Alc./Vol. No tasting notes available.

It started with Hendrick’s, then along came Coarunn and Blackwoods. It seems Scotland is cementing its place as a quality gin producer. Here’s another. Set up by former marketing director of Glenmorangie, and whisky aficionado, Alex Nicol, Spencerfield Spirits prides itself on being a close-knit, family run business. Alex and his wife Jane are whole-heartedly dedicated to providing a quality niche alternative to the more conventional mainstream brands.
Their flagship product, the irreverently named, yet seriously flavoursome Sheep Dip was developed in 1970, with its stablemate, the seductively smooth Pig's Nose being launched three years later. Both award winning whiskies have recently been joined by Edinburgh Gin.
The gin is produced from high grade grain spirit distilled in a 200 year old Scottish copper pot still at Invergordon distillery, together with typical gin botanicals including juniper berries, citrus peel and orris root. A selection of uniquely Scottish botanicals are then added such as pine heather and milk thistle. The 1920's are known as gin's truly Golden era and in keeping with that theme, the packaging has an art deco feel that reflects this wonderful period of ‘gin’ fueled cocktail parties. A small batch variation of Edinburgh Gin (infused with Perthshire raspberries) is expected soon. No doubt the duo will continue to innovate. 43% Alc./Vol.

Edinburgh Gin Cannonball Navy Strength Gin (700ml)Edinburgh, SCOTLAND$99. 99Bottle$1199.88 DozenABV: 57.2%It started with Hendrick’s, then along came Coarunn and Blackwoods... It seems Scotland is making a name for itself as a quality gin producer. Here’s another. Set up by former marketing director of Glenmorangie and whisky aficionado, Alex Nicol, Spencerfield Spirits prides itself on being a close-knit, family run business. Alex and his wife Jane are whole-heartedly dedicated to providing a quality niche alternative to the more conventional mainstream brands. Inspired by Edinburgh’s rich naval heritage of cannons and the famous One O’clock Gun, Cannonball Gin lives up to its name, resurrecting a historic high-proof style that was once commissioned by the British Navy. Bottled at 57.2% ABV, it's defined by intense juniper and Oriental spice (in fact, it has twice the juniper content of Edinburgh's "Classic Gin", previously imported). Szechuan peppercorns add a spicy note while zesty lemon and orange balance out the citrus. The combination makes for a vigorously refreshing Dry Martini, served with a lemon twist to complement the gin’s peppery, zestier notes. Gold Medal International Wine & Spirits Competition. -

Elephant Sloe Gin (500ml)GERMANY$69. 99Bottle$839.88 DozenABV: 35%A berry flavoured gin created by Robin Gerlach, inspired by a passion for Africa. The appearance is a cloudy to turbid sienna red, but don't let that put you off - it implies this is unfiltered for maximum flavour. The naturalness is reflected in the aromas of fresh dried cranberries, glace cherries, cinnamon, lemon pith and hints of pine which repeat on the palate. Silky and pure, it's unadulterated and deliciously tart with a perfect balance of red berry sweetness backed up by fresher citrus, juniper and baking spice notes. The finish is gently tannic, suggesting chamomile and berry infused tea. Highly recommended. 15% of all profits go to two African Elephant charities. 35% Alc./Vol.
Other reviews... Cloudy garnet color. This terrific new gin created by Robin Gerlach is inspired by a passion for Africa. Elephant Gin Elephant Strength Gin (500ml)GERMANY$89. 99Bottle$1079.88 DozenABV: 57%A high strength option from the Hamburg based distillery. AKA “navy strength,” it's inspired by a style once offered by the Royal English Navy when Gin was put to the test by lighting it with gunpowder. This edition employs twice the quantity of botanicals with a focus on African buchu, sweet orange peel and herbaceous mountain pine. Bottled at 57% ABV, the labels in this series carry the names of the so-called "Magnificent Seven": the strongest and most impressive elephants known to Kruger National Park, South Africa. These precious bull elephants all bore tusks weighing more than 50kg each. Tasting note: The full, intense perfume is at first dryish, rooty, earthy. Second pass accents celery leaf, dried herbs, coriander, orange peel, ripe juniper and hints of liquorice root. A gin guaranteed to knock the sweat off the hottest Summers night. To create this explosive Navy-strength edition, the Ester team uses an extra roar of juniper, finger lime and lemon myrtle interlaced into the feisty punch of the 57% abv. Florals and spice weave over a foundation of citrus and pine forest; it's viscous and intense with a thunderous undercurrent of spice and citrus, all layered with complex savoury notes. The beauty of the recipe means that, somehow, nothing stands out save for the remarkable layered texture, and symphony of balanced flavours. It's been dubbed a Gin geek's Gin, yet there is nothing elitist about it: just a beautifully crafted and quintessential cocktail gin that is built for the classics. Best suited to a full bodied Gimlet, a fiery Collins or simply amplify your G&T and make it a little bit more risky for an outrageously good time. In short, a gin for bold drinkers and old lushes who like their spirits potent and full of character. Botanicals include juniper, cardamom, coriander, orris, angelica, liquorice, clove, cassia, finger lime, macadamia, lemon myrtle and pepper berry. 57% Alc./Vol.

Feingeisterei Five Continents Dry Gin (700ml)GERMANY$99. 99Bottle$1199.88 DozenABV: 47%Like almost everywhere else in the world, German gin production has upped a gear in recent years. As the name suggests, this one uses 22 organically grown botanicals from five continents. The still is operated by Martina & Fabian Rohrwasser at Gut Basthorst, just outside of Hamburg. All of the ingredients are distilled simultaneously, as opposed to being mixed later on. This allows their flavours and aromas sufficient time to "get acquainted, mingle, and emerge." The gin's botanical list is diverse featuring ginger and cardamom from Asia, Australian eucalyptus, as well as African guinea pepper and a dose of local lavender leaves resulting in a heady mix of international aromas and flavours. Tasting note: A pungent, spicy bouquet, settling after 2-3 minutes revealing appealing aromas of pine, juniper, lemon cordial and potpourri. Intense attack, with peppery juniper, lemon butter, eucalyptus leaf and a spicy, fresh, grapefruit-like finish. A complex, full bodied gin to stand up to heavy mixing. 47% Alc./Vol. Other reviews... We're serious about gin.
Distilleries both small and large from every continent on earth can now lay claim to a Gin. You could be cynical and suggest it's merely to maintain cash flow while more 'serious' barrel aged spirits mature. Gin is easy and cheap. After all, it's just flavoured vodka at the end of the day, right? That line of thinking misrepresents all this spirit can be in the hands of visionaries and fanatics. The freshest botanicals in high quality alcohol result in an exotic amalgam of accents and supporting notes that no white spirit can match. Perfumed complexity and bracing intensity are not the characteristics of every gin we taste - hence, it can't be that easy to achieve. From Navy Strength to organic to sloe gin, browse our range today. A long departure from the once "fuddy-duddy" association of the genre, Vickers, Gordon's and other ubiquitous brands are threatened to be swallowed in a giant yawn by the progressive, quality-savvy new-gin devotee. Trending classifications such as 'New Western' style (juniper evident but not dominant) are gaining prominence as are the use of indigenous botanicals and varied spirit bases, including non-grain. Barrel ageing is also gaining momentum. The vast improvement in quality has resulted in texture rich, neat/sipping friendly spirits. Yet, the traditional English and Dutch styles remain more relevant than ever in honouring the cocktail classics. Learn more today...
