Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2018 Ferran opens with expressive notes of black cherries, mulberries, warm cassis and redcurrant jelly plus wafts of tapenade, truffles and lavender. Medium to full-bodied, it has a firm, fine-grained texture and loads of freshness supporting the bright fruit, finishing with great length.

Lisa Perrotti-Brown - Wine AdvocateThe center palate of this wine shows pretty density and freshness with purple-fruit and stone character. Some tea leaves as well. Medium body. Firm tannins.

James Molesworth - Wine SpectatorThis is really linear and tight for this winery and shows seriousness and polish. Medium-to full-bodied and a tight, compact palate. Very fresh and long, too. I can see a change to more linear and precise wines here.

The 2016 Baret has quite a rich and luscious bouquet with mulberry and raspberry fruit, generous if not the best defined within the Pessac-Léognan appelation this year. The palate is smooth on the entry with good depth, rounded with a slight tinniness towards the finish and maybe it just pulls up a little short compared to others. But it will provide a great deal of pleasurable early drinking.

Neal Martin eRobertParker.com #230 (Apr 2017)Pretty center palate of firm and silky tannins and dark fruits, as well as hints of walnuts and cedar. Medium to full body and a lovely finish. Same as 2015 in quality.

Other Reviews….Owned by Stephan von Neipperg, Clos Marsalette is a relatively small 17.5-acre site situated next to Latour Martillac. Made from a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc, the 2010 exhibits an opaque ruby/purple hue along with copious notes of graphite, creosote, sweet berry fruit and subtle roasted herbs. Round and expansive on the palate with medium to full-bodied flavors, silky smooth tannins and extraordinary elegance as well as depth, this beauty is a major sleeper of the vintage. Drink it over the next 10-12 years

Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate # 194 May 2011Crazy cool nose of dark fruits with licorice and black pepper. Full bodied, with gorgeous fruits and silky refined tannins and a long, fruity finish. This is bright and beautiful. Best ever from here.

The Pessac-Léognan commune has the best soils of the Graves area in Bordeaux and represents all of the classed growth estates. The soils here are very similar to those of the Médoc to the north, while the climate is milder and gives the wines a touch more richness. Chateau Ferran employ hand harvesting, strict sorting of the grapes, and sensitive wine making techniques to ensure their wine is equal to the top wines of the appellation. Their red wine is a blend of 60% Merlot, with the balance Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.
Opaque black dark crimson colour with a deep dark crimson red hue. The nose displays good aromatic lift with scents of blackcurrants and black cherries followed by some cedary tobacco, subtle earth and spice. Medium to full bodied the palate is filled with rich blackcurrant and black cherry flavours over a background of toasty cedar, earth and spice. Dryish finish with solid firmish but fine grained tannins. Aftertaste of blackcurrant, earth and spicy cedar.
Cellar 5-6 years.

Sexy, lush, and deep ruby/purple in color, ripe, sweet notes of plums, black currants and cherries jump from the glass of this sleeper of the vintage. An undeniably endearing style of wine, generously endowed, plump and easy to appreciate, its evolved complexity and fleshy fruit make for a delicious yet classic Graves to drink over the next decade or more. Bravo! Drink 2013-2023.

Robert Parker – The Wine AdvocateA wine with lots of juicy fruit and chewy tannins yet smoky and earthy. Full body, with mushroom character and a long finish. Needs time to soften. Try in 2017.

Other Reviews….A stunning sleeper of the vintage, this blend of 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon was made by winemaking guru/consultant Stephane Derenoncourt. The wine’s 14.5% alcohol tells you something about its amazing richness and intensity. Aromas of smoke, lead pencil shavings, sweet kirsch and black currants soar from the glass of this medium to full-bodied, opulent, fleshy wine. Some tannin lurks beneath the surface, but the overall impression is one of opulence and extravagance. Drink this beauty over the next decade or more. Drink: 2013 - 2021
