2019 Antonelli Contrario Sagrantino

Antonelli San Marco is a 190-hectare estate acquired by the Antonelli family in 1881, making it one of the historic wineries in the Montefalco DOCG region. The estate cultivates native grapes like Trebbiano Spoletino, Grechetto, Sangiovese, and places a significant emphasis on Sagrantino.
Sagrantino is the main red grape in Montefalco, grown on hills between 300m and 400m altitude. The grapes, picked by hand, undergo a brief skin fermentation and then mature for 7 months in a blend of stainless steel tanks and concrete vats. This process results in a fresh style that can be enjoyed when young but also has the potential to age well in the bottle for several years.

The Contrario Umbria Rosso is the second wine for Antonelli's Sagrantino vines. It's dusty and floral, with violet and blue flowers complementing crushed cherries. This round, spicy, energetic effort has tantalizing acidity, maintaining a lovely freshness despite its rich red berry fruits. Fine-grained tannins coat the palate as residual acids keep the mouth watering through the long and staining finale. Drink 2024 - 2028.
