Glengyle Distillery Kilkerran 8 Year Old Bourbon Cask Matured Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml) - 2024 BottlingCampbeltown, SCOTLAND$159. 99Bottle$1919.88 DozenABV: 55.6%"The most Springbank-like Kilkerran I have had so far, absolutely fantastic!" - whiskybase.com
The 11th batch of the ever-popular eight year old has landed. Fully aged in bourbon casks, the resulting whisky has a creamy feel with notes of vanilla, toffee, banana, apple and herbal peat, intensified by bottling at cask strength. As the oiliness and sweetness from the maturation tangoes with the smoke and waxy-minerality of the distillate, it's hard to avoid comparisons with Springbank or Talisker. Consensus is that it's about as good as eight year old Scotch gets, with some now preferring this over Kilkerran's older expressions. 55.6% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.
Other reviews... If you thought the secret to the Kilkerran 8's was in the sherry part, think again! The bourbon release is the true way to experience the Zen of Kilkerran! Don't add water, it gives bitterness. There is no point in repeating my notes in detail, since the style completely repeats the Springbank style! - whiskybase.com
...bourbon cask matured, and what a beauty it is. Sometimes it feels just like Springbank. 91/100. I think this is the best Kilkerran out of fourteen I have tried between 2019 and 2025. A truly great Campbeltown malt. - whiskybase.com
...Yes yes yes, this is by far the nicest batch of the 8 year old Kilkerran I've had so far - probably because all the others have been either port or sherry. The Springbank DNA runs right through the nose and the taste, and you could easily mistake it for one. Beautifiul, oily mouthfeel. Classic ex-bourbon cask notes alongside the Campbeltown funk, without going too heavy in the vanillas. Quality bourbon casks were used and the batch was expertly blended. It's not super complex, but it is "only" 8 years old after all. No aggressiveness despite its young age. There is a nice peaty grapefruit type of bitterness in the taste and finish, a very interesting note. A bit of sweetness too, but not too much. Still, it's very enjoyable and with a couple of drops of water this is a very dangerous one. - whiskybase.com

This is a good wine, and it’s good value. It’s a spicy, medium-weight style of shiraz, with a touch of positive reduction helping it along, with bell pepper and black pepper characters wedded to cherry-plum fruit. There’s also the merest whisper of musky vanilla, though oak is a low-impact player here. The tannin has a grainy, grunty aspect to it but then, it’s not overdone, and not dominant. There are no question marks here, everything is positive, though a slight warmth to the alcohol is the only thing you’d point to, if you were forced. It’s no real matter and besides, even at full price the value here is decidedly in the buyer’s favour. Drink 2025-2030.

In 1979 Mike Peterkin produced Australia’s first Semillon Sauvignon Blanc. Working at Cullen’s at the time, the wine went on to win a trophy at the Perth Royal Show. He never claimed any originality for the idea, he simply borrowed it from the French. In 1980 he was so convinced of the blend’s potential in Margaret River he devoted a third of the Pierro plantings to the varieties.
The 2024 L.T.C. is made up of 55% Sauvignon Blanc, 21% Semillon, 13.5% Chenin Blanc and 10.5% Chardonnay. Twenty five percent of the blend was fermented and matured in new and one & two year-old French oak barrels for a period of 2-3 months with the balance fermented and matured in stainless steel.

Passionfruit and herbaceous gooseberry aromas leap out of the glass with notions of green apple, lime, delicate pencil shavings and spice notes also present. Bristling with freshness, wonderfully concentrated passionfruit, green apple and lime fruits are layered across the scrumptious palate. Ample textural volume is counterpointed by crisp, mineral infused acidity with subtle gooseberry, quince and spice elements the undercard. Long, vivacious finish.

This vintage is 55% Sauvignon Blanc, 21% Semillon, 13.5% Chenin Blanc and 10.5% Chardonnay. So a little touch of two Cs here. Not Les Trois Cuvées, rather Les Quatres Cuvées.
Lime and grapefruit, a little cut grass, green tea, fennel and spice. It’s bright and has some lime and grapefruit tang, though it also has some macadamia nut richness to it and kiwi fruit juiciness. Texture is a little powdery, and it finishes with good length and sort of gin and tonic bite. A very good and interesting wine. As an aside, it looked better after being open for a day. It’s 93 or 94 points, though I’m leaning toward the latter. Drink 2025-2031+.

Gary Walsh – The Wine Front - 2015 Michter's Single Barrel 20 Year Old Cask Strength Bourbon Whiskey (700ml)Kentucky, UNITED STATES$19999. 00Bottle$239988.00 DozenABV: 57.1%
Note: Product has come from a private collection and as such may have some minor scuffing/scratches/handling marks. Actual product pictured.
Debuting in 2012 but not released every year, Michter's 20 year old is the second oldest age statement from the legendary distillery that has seen a meteoric rise in collectibility. Michter's state "While we regularly sample all our Michter's barrels to see how our whiskey is aging, we pay even extra special attention to our barrels once they are over 17 years old. At Michter's we consider 17 to 20 years the "Fork In The Road Point" when certain barrels of whiskey can achieve an extraordinary level of quality. It is these particular barrels that our Master Distiller Dan McKee personally selects for our very limited bottling of Michter's 20 Year Kentucky Straight Bourbon."Although the exact provenance of these early Michter's releases remains undisclosed, bourbonculture.com comments, "2012 was a busy year for Michter’s. Work was in progress for both their Shively distillery, Fort Nelson location and the continual release of both highly aged whiskies from the barrels they sourced at Willett to the new whiskies that expanded their lineup.
That’s why it was shocking to see a 20 year old bourbon being released. M20 would go on to be released every year (with the exception of 2017) in very limited amounts of bottles.
2012’s bottling was labelled “Single Barrel” but was eventually changed to reflect it was a “small batch” in 2016 and beyond. It is widely speculated that the first single barrel of M20 contained Stitzel Weller inside. It may never be known how many more releases contained the holy grail of bourbon in it, but M20 continues to draw a large fan base each year."
An interesting speculation that leads one to wonder what this 2015 release contains.
The investment upside on these releases seems to have no limits at present. This is bottle 73 of 113 released from barrel L15I739, bottled at 57.1% Alc./Vol. -

This gin has two schools of flavour: the coastal, summer sea breeze quality and a warmer baked citrus quality. Both work in tandem to build an interesting, engaging and versatile spirit. These elements are not always harmonious. However, the heavier use of anise forward botanicals is a guiding flavour to effortlessly envelope and create a thoughtful & polished spirit. 94 points - Jess Clayfield, winecompanion.com.au

Furneaux Distillery Flinders Island Peated Single Malt Australian Whisky (700ml)Tasmania, AUSTRALIA$220. 00Bottle$2640.00 DozenABV: 48.2%Other reviews... Made with Tasmanian barley smoked post-malting with Flinders Island peat, the nose on this whisky is fascinating - almost like smoked chocolate - and like nothing I've ever smelled in a whisky before. Truly unique in a way that's rare in the world of whisky. Grassy and earthy aromas like freshly cut green capsicum are almost reminiscent of mezcal but without the underripe or volatile notes of a whisky bottled too young. There's enough oak and smoke here to round it out, along with lovely notes of maple syrup sweetness and orange zest, and the integration of oak and spirit is impressive. It's rare to have a smokey whisky that still smells so fresh, so that's ... refreshing. Powerful alcohol on the front palate dissipates quickly to a lovely roasted and candied macadamia nuttiness, and again the integration is impressive with a surprisingly easy, sweet finish. It could use more oiliness and texture to match the alcohol - it isn't a drink for those afraid of a little heat - but on the other hand, it's very drinkable for a whisky with so much power. Incredibly impressive for such a young distillery. Are there peated Scotch whiskies on the market that are better priced for similar quality? Yes. But this is a truly unique whisky made in a truly unique place without the backing of multinational corporations, and that's worth paying for. 96 points - Fred Siggins, winecompanion.com.au

Furneaux Distillery Sawyers Bay Single Malt Australian Whisky (700ml)Tasmania, AUSTRALIA$199. 99Bottle$2399.88 DozenABV: 46.6%Other reviews... This well-balanced single malt displays a lovely soft nose of fudgy, Christmas pudding, Aussie Apera and a delicacy that belies its youth. Maybe it's wishful imagination, but there's a note of coastal grass and rain on rocks that speaks to the island home, along with powerful notes of ripe fruits, melon and red apple in particular, a hallmark of good Aussie single malt in the same way it's a hallmark of good Aussie pale ale. This whisky has a lot in common with other Tassie whiskies, so it is very recognisable for its region, but with no rough edges hiding under the oak - an unfortunately common problem on the Apple Isle - which shows a deft hand in the stillhouse and a careful nose in the blending room. The palate is light and approachable, with a fresh apple and mild tannin on the finish, giving this whisky the gravitas that the lovely nose deserves. While lacking the complexity or texture to be truly exceptional, it's a prime example of what makes Aussie whisky great and something I'd be proud to show off to anyone in the world. At $200 a pop, it's not cheap, but given the genuine craft approach taken here, the price is justified. If this is the quality they're producing this early in the game, there are very good things ahead for Furneaux. 94 points - Fred Siggins, winecompanion.com.au
- Renais Gin (700ml)UNITED KINGDOM$99. 99Bottle$1199.88 DozenABV: 40%
Short for 'Renaissance', Renais is the brainchild of Emma Watson, of Harry Potter fame, together with her brother James who works in the drinks industry. It begins with the grape skins left after pressing from their father's vineyard in Chablis. These, along with lees from the wine are distilled to produce a base spirit which is blended with "Kimmeridgian stone distillate", produced from an infusion of rocks from northern Burgundy. Add the necessary botanicals and you have a fresh, dry, juniper-led style. Tasters have also noted a distinctive minerality, typical of the Chablis region's wines. 40% Alc./Vol.
Other reviews... Renais is a luxury gin brand in the UK that’s so fancy they released a limited edition bottle featuring artwork from Emma Watson. On a recent trip to London the brand was kind enough to send me a sample of the gin — in the boring old normal person bottle, mind you — which I dutifully carted back to the U.S. for review. As far as I can tell it isn’t available on our shores. Renais is made as an homage to Burgundy in France, distilled from salvaged Grand Cru grape skins collected after being pressed to make wine. Botanicals include (but may not be limited to) juniper, grains of paradise, linden flowers, and acacia honey. Golden yellow in color, the gin has the appearance of a cocktail that’s ready to drink, but the nose is classic London dry — heavy, biting juniper with a sultry angelica earthiness underneath. It’s very peppery with mild notes of anise and less distinct florals, largely dried, to wind things up. On the palate, the gin is a powerhouse. Fans of modern, more gossamer gins will laugh in the face of Renais. Powerful notes of juniper, rosemary, and thyme give the gin an immediate punch of green herbs, as piney as a walk amongst the evergreens can be. The drinker is in for some surprises, however, as a brisk citrus quality soon becomes clear, followed by a growing, insistent sweetness. The acacia honey in the mix is no joke, providing a soothing backbone against which the aggressive herbal notes can find some rest. The finish is lightly sweet and tinged with florals again, making for a spirit that is delightful on its own but also a natural companion with tonic. - drinkhacker.com

A circa 2023 release aged exclusively in Spanish oak intended to show off a slightly different side of Hakushu compared to the standard 12 year old. Travel Retail exclusive. Not something we come across every day! 43% Alc./Vol.
Other reviews... In a world where great Japanese whisky prices are always exponentially rising, Hakushu Japanese Forest is a relatively affordable standout offering from Suntory. Despite its lack of an age statement, I would pick this over the more expensive Hakushu 12 and Yamazaki 12 every time. With its uncharacteristically sherry forward persona, and delicately balanced palate, this Japanese Forest Bittersweet Edition shows the sweeter side to the Suntory’s “forest distillery”. Its nose is fantastic, with a lovely burst of flavor right as it hits your tongue. The only thing keeping this from being exceptional is the relatively thin finish and its limited availability in Travel Retail and Japan. But if you’ve always wanted to explore what Hakushu is like without the smoke, this Japanese Forest expression is absolutely worth a pickup if you ever come across any of the few remaining bottles out in the wild. - thewhiskystudy.com -

This is one of 2000 ceramic decanters which filled with 25 year old whiskies from renowned Highland and Island single malt distilleries, blended with soft 25 year old grain whisky to create a unique and mature luxury blend. One taster described it as "Very smooth but really voluminous blend for apple lovers, Glen Grant friends, for example, will enjoy it."Archibald Lauder was a man who believed in good things done well, something that was reflected in all his accomplishments. Being the owner of one of Glasgow’s finest hostelries (the eponymous Lauder’s Bar) he always dressed well and catered for his guests’ every need. His establishment was known city-wide for welcoming people from all walks of life.
Whisky production was made legal in 1815, and still by the early 1830’s quality was anything but consistent. Archibald realised that the only way to provide his friends and customers with a great whisky every time was to create his own blend. The first unique whisky from the bar appeared in 1834, and Archibald Lauder spent years perfecting that blend. He proudly put his name to the blend, and to this day, the label still bears his signature. Lauder’s 25 Year Old is the crowning achievement of over 180 years of Lauder’s tradition. Selected malt and grain whiskies are aged for a minimum of 25 years in a combination of ex-sherry and ex-bourbon oak casks. The resulting blend combines complex and deep flavours of rich dried fruits and subtle spice. We hope Archibald Lauder would be proud.

Comments: the alcohol is perfectly integrated. A very good fruit juice flavored with whisky is not bad. Notes from a similar bottling... The cognac-cask finish finesses the intensity and concentration of the lush fruity character of this whisky. A complex interplay of peach, apricot, apple, pineapple, lemon zest, thick-cut marmalade, oak, faint spices, and dried fruit on the nose. A thick velvety mouthfeel of sweet orange, grapefruit, and lime sweeps to a climax of peppercorn and clove, then it abates with dried apricot, papaya, and marzipan-wrapped Battenberg cake. 'Standing Stone', or ‘Camas an Staca’ in Gaelic, takes its name from the largest of Jura’s eight standing stones. Known as ‘The Bay of the Protecting Rocks’, this imposing 12 foot obelisk is reputedly all that remains of a stone circle laid some 3,000 years ago by the earliest Diurachs to appease the spirits. The iconic Jura bottle is presented in a beautiful display case that opens its doors to reveal the story of the whisky. Meticulously detailed, the bottle is in-filled with copper wax with a matching metal plaque. 44% Alc./Vol.
Other reviews... The latest addition to the Jura range has been matured in American white oak casks before spending three years in Gonzalez Byass oloroso sherry butts. The mellow nose is lightly oily, with figs, sherry, orange, and a savory note. Vanilla emerges, along with malt, and finally a hint of cinnamon and parma violets. Soft and supple on the palate, with more orange, plus cocoa, sultanas, and dates. The finish is lengthy and features dark chocolate, raisins, aniseed, and subtle spices. 89 points - whiskyadvocate.com
This baby was finished in Oloroso sherry casks from Gonzalez Byass'. The funny name means standing stone. Colour: apricoty, almost pink. Nose: starts on frankly vinous notes, its not that it’s unpleasant, it’s just a little excessive. The good news is that all that would just go away after a few seconds, leaving more room for a complex range of citrus fruits, both dried and fresh. Oranges are very obvious, then rather citrons. Touches of baklavas, orange blossom, pomegranates, then more cigars, raisins, chocolate and just a little leather as well as a few floral notes, mainly peonies. All that is rather smooth and easy-going, although more mineral notes do rise after a few minutes. Graphite oil? Mouth: excellent attack, quite old style, with a fruitiness that reminds me of both old Bowmores and Benriach, although this one is soon to become a little drier and slightly chalky. Also a little chlorophyll and this leather from the sherry. Walnuts. Touches of salt. Finish: medium long, even drier now, the fruits have almost vanished and it all gets quite tea-ish and cigary. Cinnamon and nutmeg in the aftertaste as well as a little smoke. Fino sherry or vin jaune. Comments: very high quality but I feel the dry sherry is sometimes overwhelming ‘in the background’, with its, well, dryness. Otherwise it would have been 90+ material. 87 points - whiskyfun.com -

Compass Box The Peat Monster Blended Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)SCOTLAND$110. 00Bottle$1320.00 DozenABV: 46%Compass Box is a specialist company started in 2000 devoted to making some of Scotland's most unique whiskies through the art of blending. Similar to fine wine negociants, they choose individual casks from different distilleries that offer complementary sets of flavours. They then carefully blend these casks in small batches to make proprietary malt whiskies, grain whiskies, and malt & grain blends from distilleries across Scotland. Compass Box is also renowned for having (arguably) the industry’s highest quality standards for oak cask selection. When one considers that oak is responsible for up to 70% of the flavour of a mature whisky, one understands their mania. Only 100% American oak is used (predominantly first-fill casks). The colour of all the Compass Box whiskies is the natural colour of the whiskies from the casks. No caramel is added. The whiskies are also not chill filtered (a cosmetic process which strips flavour and texture from the whisky). As founder, John Glaser says, “Hazy whisky is a good sign that the whisky maker wants you to taste everything the whisky has to offer.” These are indeed alluring whiskies for the free-thinking enthusiast.
Peat Monster, like all vatted malts, is made by marrying 100% single malt whiskies from different distilleries, including lead distilleries like Ardmore, Caol ila and Laphroaig (they might change over time). Components are aged between 10-15 years, however. we're informed that the recipe has evolved to include older and more elegant Islay malts since 2019. This is a fantastic late-night whisky that also works beautifully in a classic Scotch whisky Highball.
Other reviews... The formula for this whisky has changed slightly since its inception -- and I think for the better. They've added some Laphroaig into the mix of Caol Ila and Ardmore. This whisky demonstrates the layered complexity that can be achieved by marrying whisky from different distilleries and different regions. I particularly enjoy the rich maltiness and oily texture that provide firm bedding and flavor contrast to the classic Islay notes: tar, boat docks, brine, smoked olive, seaweed, and kiln ash. More subtle cracked peppercorn, mustard seed, and citrus fruit add complexity. Long, warming finish. Amazing how a small change in composition can significantly benefit the overall flavor profile of a whisky. 94 points - whiskyadvocate.com
Pale golden color. Sweet clover honey, heather, and peat aromas. A soft, yet rich, entry leads to a sweetish medium-full body with caramel, orange peel, raw honey, toast, vibrant peat and pepper flavors. Finishes with a honeycomb, iodine, and toasty grain fade. Very drinkable, exquisitely balanced, and approachable with vibrant, but (despite the name) not dominant peatiness. 46% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews... An inviting bouquet opens the tasting with distinct notes of oak and malt, accompanied by sweet vanilla custard and a hint of grain. Fruity accents of apple pie and a splash of lemon lend the nose a pleasant freshness and lightness. On the palate, the whisky is creamy and balanced with sweetness. Gentle oak spice forms the backbone, while red berries and tropical mango unfold a fruity depth. Subtle spice notes add complexity, before a hint of black pepper elegantly rounds off the flavor profile. The finish is long and smooth. Sweet vanilla lingers, accompanied by ripe red apple and a light oak aftertaste that slowly fades away. An all-round harmonious whisky with a pleasant balance of sweetness, fruit, and spice. The combination of vanilla, ripe fruit, and delicate spice in particular gives it an elegant, memorable character. A delight for all who appreciate mild yet complex whiskies. - whiskybase.com -

The distillery released the 'Gold of Pitilie 28 year old’ (named after their Pitilie Burn water source). Only eight bottles of this 1985 vintage were produced, adorned with 22 and 24 carat gold leaf and priced at around AU$5K each. We have the ‘standard’ 40% ABV edition.
Other reviews... Surprisingly viscous for 40% ABV (though still could have a wee bit more oomph for my liking) and delivering a rich and creamy arrival which emphasises both sweetness and wood. Toffee and fudge are joined by ripe apples, poached pears and a heavy dose of old wood in the form of leather bound books, furniture polish and tobacco... a lovely drinking experience – it’s the type of whisky that’s both indulgent and refined, but also easy to get along with. Great balance of sweetness and bitterness with an old wood profile that still allows the more fruity underpinning flavours to shine through. Very tasty stuff indeed. Alas, the price of this one has completely skyrocketed. - thedramble.com -
