2022 Giacomo Conterno Francia Barbera d'Alba
    Piedmont, ITALY
    $230. 00
    Bottle
    $2760.00 Dozen
    ABV: 15.5%
    Closure: Cork

Giacomo Conterno is one of those names that immediately grabs the attention of anyone passionate about Piedmont wines. Known for crafting some of the most iconic Barolos in the world, this family-run estate has built its reputation on a commitment to tradition and quality. Their wines are all about power, precision, and aging potential, but they never lose that soulful connection to the land.

Current custodian Roberto Conterno keenly appreciates what being the benchmark for Barolo can mean in a commercial world that makes such a rarity of his wines. In the laboratory and in production, Roberto has adapted and refined equipment like his utterly unique destemmer to operate at remarkable levels of sensitivity. Back into the vineyard, and continuous trials like the massale selections, must pass sufficient time to satisfy Roberto’s fastidious expectations.

Francia Barbera d'Alba is a lush, powerful and sometimes brooding wine, underpinned by mineral wet rock and graphite notes that add interest and freshness.

    Other Reviews....
The 2022 Barbera d'Alba Vigna Francia is a delicate, understated wine, surprisingly so in this intensely warm, dry year. Sweet red-toned cherry/plum fruit, blood orange and floral top notes are beautifully delineated. Silky tannins wrap it all together in style. I expected to see a more opulent Barbera here. Instead, the 2022 is a bit compact today. That may serve it well over the coming years, hence my optimism about its future prospects. Drink 2027-2034.

The 2020 Barolo Francia is a soaring, classically austere wine built for the cellar. Medium in body and driving, with tons of mineral intensity, the 2020 is an evocative wine that makes me think about the future. This is what young Barolo should be - vibrant and stern, but with the purity of fruit that is typical here. The 2020 is so wonderfully alive. Drink 2028-2050.

Bright red pale in color, the 2020 Barolo Francia is gorgeous with a bit more structure and depth, though it remains elegant all the way through. Its ripe, pure notes of fresh cherries, roses, incense, and spice are followed by a medium-bodied red with structured, ripe tannins, energetic lift, and gorgeous notes of apricot and tea leaf on the incredibly long finish. While it certainly boasts more depth compared to the 2018, its elegant profile harkens to the gracefulness expressed in many of the best wines in that vintage. It's outstanding all the way through and is going to offer a tremendous amount of pleasure over the next 20 or more years. Drink 2025-2045.

To officially taste Giacomo Conterno's Monfortino 2020, one will have to wait until October 2026, however the Francia is released this year. The wine underwent a brief fermentation and maceration in wood with ageing mainly in large Austrian oak barrels. The wine shines with classic notes of dried cherry, sweet violet, watermelon and rhubarb, focused on elegance with incredible savouriness. Fresh with soft, chewy tannins, still young but elegant. Drink 2025-2035.

Conterno's Arione Nebbiolo d'Alba is a special expression of the section of Arione that falls outside of the commune of Barolo. Made in the same way as Roberto’s Barolo, with slightly less aging, this is more pretty and supple yet has all the trademark Barolo stuffing to ensure a glorious future in the cellar.

    Other Reviews....
The 2021 Nebbiolo d'Alba Vigna Arione is all class. Perfumed and silky on the palate, with medium-bodied structure, the 2021 embodies the virtues of elegance and class. Crushed flowers, white pepper and mint play off a core of vibrant, red-toned fruit. What a beautiful wine this is. As a reminder, the Nebbiolo d'Alba Vigna Arione emerges from a section in Arione that is just outside the Barolo appellation. Vines here were replanted after the 2015 harvest. The Nebbiolo was vinified in wood and then spent 31 months in cask, a classic Barolo élevage. Drink 2027-2041.

The fifth vintage of this wine (the vineyard was purchased in 2015) and tasted from barrel, the 2020 Barolo Arione pours a jeweled ruby hue, the 2020 Barolo Arione expresses freshness and great clarity in its notes of apricot, pristine cherry, and crushed stones. This medium-bodied red is long on the palate and has a great finish, with fine tannins, refreshing acidity, and outstanding balance. It is already showing gorgeous depth and complexity.

2015 Carn Mor Strictly Limited Williamson (Distilled at Laphroaig) 9 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
    Islay, SCOTLAND
    $189. 99
    Bottle
    $2279.88 Dozen
    ABV: 47.5%

This is the third Williamson release under Carn Mor's 'Strictly Limited' label. Nine years maturing in ex-sherry hogsheads has resulted in an unusually amicable Laphroaig with soft, rounded edges and flavours of light citrus zest, menthol and a salty-maritime character for a properly 'Islayesque' feel. The medium-long finish develops with hints of smoked meats, becoming more oily as it fades. 1623 bottles are on offer. 47.5% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered. Tasted from a 30ml sample.

The 77th vintage from Moët & Chandon reflects a season of contrasts, with a cool, wet start followed by a warm, dry summer and an unusually late harvest. Cellar Master Benoît Gouez blended 48% Chardonnay, 34% Pinot Noir, and 18% Meunier, aged for six years in Moët’s chalk cellars before release. The result is an Extra Brut Champagne (5g/L dosage) that is radiant and harmonious, offering orchard fruit, citrus, florals, and a mineral edge. Supple in texture yet finely structured, it marries freshness with depth, capturing the grace and poise of a truly distinctive vintage.

Grand Vintage 2016 sums up the year's strong suits very neatly – beautiful ripeness without heaviness, compact build and fine ageworthiness. It's a characteristically clean-cut, snappy vintage from Moët, with aromas of fresh baguette, satsuma, sweet red apple and strawberry, all framed with the toasty sourdough aromas typical of the house. There's some concentration and vinosity lurking here, even with the house's delicate style and pinpoint, meringue-soft mousse. This seems destined to be one of the top Moët vintages of late. The legend returns as a Committee exclusive.

First released in 1997, Ardbeg 17 became one of the first whiskies to hit the market when the distillery re-opened. Patchy production periods in the 1980s and 1990s meant that the requisite stocks were never going to last long, which included unpeated whiskies from the 1980s. Consequently, Ardbeg 17 was discontinued in 2004. Directors of Whisky Production, Bill Lumsden and Gillian MacDonald decided to re-launch the age statement in 2024, closely following the elements that made the original. With a lower ABV and chill filtration, this is considerably softer than Ardbeg's 5 or 10-year old expressions, heading towards the elegance of decades-old Jura. Like the last hours of a dying fire, it exhibits a dry, ashy character that slowly smoulders its way across the tongue, the classic distillery traits suggested in low key, from grilled pineapple, mezcal smoke, bitter dark chocolate and Perique tobacco, run through with a delicate oily quality that adds body and weight. Bottling at just 40% makes for a relatively sedate whisky, typical of well-aged Islay with little to no dilution required. Ardbeg completionists should find it a fascinating and rewarding experience.

Saint James Rhum Blanc Agricole Martinique Rum (700ml)
    MARTINIQUE
    $79. 99
    Bottle
    $959.88 Dozen
    ABV: 40%

A fresh and tangy entry-level agricole from Martinique, bottled at an accessible 40% ABV for the bartender's circuit. Good to start your adventure into the agricole category or use it to make delicious Mojitos and Mai Tais.

Other reviews... I’ve tried quite a few of these whites from the company, and the thing is, what impresses about the Imperial is its cost benefit ratio — it tastes well and noses even better for the first and cheapest rhum in that lineup. The profile is reasonably good, isn’t strong enough to offend or frighten, and provides most of what is required of a low-level intro to unaged agricoles.  I wouldn’t go so far as to say it makes a great Ti’ punch – you need to go to 50º for that to happen, and Clement and Damoiseau provide stiff competition as well – but its very good at providing a flavourful jolt to whatever you feel like adding it to, even at standard strength.  So while I wouldn’t say it’s a key rum of any kind, it certainly is tailor made for bars, and for anyone of lean purse who wants to start working on his knowledge of the blanc side. - thelonecaner.com

Christian Drouin Lauriston Pommeau de Normandie (700ml)
    Normandy, FRANCE
    $56. 99
    Bottle
    $683.88 Dozen
    ABV: 17%

Pommeau de Normandie is a blend of three parts fresh apple cider and one part Calvados. The appellation requires a minimum ageing of fourteen months in oak, but at Christian Drouin, they extend that to up to four years. The extra ageing delivers a better-balanced drink with little to no apparent alcohol. Drouin also takes particular care when choosing their apples, aiming to obtain a flavour that's neither too sweet nor too heavy. Pommeau de Normandie's fruit exuberance makes it the region's favoured aperitif. It can simply be served chilled before dinner, or added to Champagne as a long drink, but it's also popular in the kitchen where it lends its delicious apple perfume to a variety of dishes - drizzled into a scooped out melon, with foie gras, or with apple desserts and sauces. 17% Alc./Vol.

Here too there is evident floral influence suffusing the ripe aromas of Granny Smith apples, pear and hazelnut. The dense, delicious and mouthcoating medium weight flavors possess plenty of sappy dry extract that is buffered by a firm and bright acid spine on the lightly stony, long and balanced finale. Fine quality here. Drink through 2028+.

The 2022 Meursault Clos du Cromin may lack a bit of bandwidth on the nose: quite strict citric fruit, a touch of grass clippings, and a bit closed on the day. The palate is well-balanced with good depth on the entry, orange rind, tangerine and grapefruit towards the long, if slightly attenuated, finish. Drink 2024-2034.

Half was planted in 1929 and half in 2000. Alex thinks the young vines add to the old in terms of complexity in the final wine. Here there is an appealing array of floral elements present on the cool, pure and layered aromas of poached plum, dark berry coulis and earth hints. I like the mid-palate mouthfeel of the energetic, detailed and stony flavors that conclude in a moderately rustic, youthfully austere and palate coating finish that is slightly less structured as well as a bit less complex, at least at present. Blended with 30% whole bunches and from a massal selection made in the nineties, the 2022 Maranges Clos de la Boutière 1er Cru has a complex bouquet with blackberry, raspberry, iris flower and crushed stone aromas. This is very terroir-driven. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannins. It is elegant and harmonious, gently unfolding towards the finish with a sustained, slightly peppery aftertaste. A Maranges from the top drawer. Superb. Drink 2027-2042.

A slightly deeper denser colour. The nose has a nutty note suggesting a light oxidation of the sample. There is a good density to the fruit, the right balance of fruit/acidity/ tannin but the actual style of the fruit is a little mixed up at the moment. Scored as the sample tasted but I expect the final wine will be better. Drink from 2027-2031.

Ripe and nicely fresh aromas include those of poached plum, purple fruit and plenty of earth character. There is a finer, but not denser, mouthfeel to the lightly stony middleweight flavors that deliver fine length on the overtly saline finish. The 2022 Santenay Les Charmes-Dessus has a riper bouquet than the Prarons, with ebullient dark plum and boysenberry fruit, though maybe missing a little complexity. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly more austere tannins. It's a bit sultry this Santenay, though there is a lovely touch of orange rind on the dense finish. Needs time. Drink 2025-2035.

This is the first wine in the range to display any reduction and here it's enough to suppress the fruit. The 2022 Santenay Les Prarons-Dessus has an enticing bouquet, the 30% whole bunches discrete and enmeshed, raspberry and wild strawberry mixed with light lavender aromas. Ron Zacapa Centenario X.O. Rum (700ml) - ASSORTED DAMAGE

    Reduced from $240.00
    $159. 99

    $1919.88 Dozen
    ABV: 40%

Note: Each product has suffered multiple instances of damage to the bottle and box. Ideal for drinkers, but not collectors.

The crown jewel in the Zacapa line-up and the epitome of elegance in rum.

What started in the early part of the 20th century as an effort by a handful of enthusiastic entrepreneurs has evolved into a prosperous corporation with international recognition. Today the 'La Nacional' company has an extensive range of products which account for 98% of the domestic spirits market in Guatemala. Their rums marketed under the Ron Zacapa label stand out for two reasons: Instead of molasses, they're produced using sugarcane honey (fresh sugarcane juice condensed and filtered). Secondly, the rums are distilled at sea-level but aged in the town of Quetzaltenango at an elevation of 2300 metres.

Zacapa's top shelf blend of 6-25 year old rums is an exemplary example of the spirit that goes through a similar solera aging process to the popular Solera 23 with one notable exception: after a spell in ex-bourbon, ex-oloroso sherry, and ex-Pedro Ximenez sherry casks, the final blend is finished in French oak casks previously used to age cognac (befitting of the XO moniker, but relatively meaningless in the rum world). It feels like a very old cognac or brandy on the nose with an almost ethereal lift of sticky date, dark chocolate, coffee bean and light golden syrup. The palate delights the senses with a fabulous rush of dates, molasses cake, mocha, honey, super-aged muscat and perfectly balanced spirit. The finish is drying and XO cognac-like. Tasting like a good proportion of seriously old material is in the mix, this is the epitome of elegance in rum with luxe presentation to match. 40% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews... Overall, this is a cocoa-bomb rum. Look for a deep-brown hue and concentrated toffee and cocoa aromas. The flavor suggests dried figs and dates, cocoa powder and walnut, finishing with a puckery fruit-leather finish. 91 points - wineenthusiast.com

...Chestnut-amber hue. Leather, tobacco and charred molasses nose. A rich entry leads to a full-bodied, moderately sweet palate of tobacco, burnt caramel, oak and brown spice elements. Finishes for a mile with a satisfying warm afterglow of alcohol. A seriously structured and refined aged rum. Reminiscent of a fine Spanish brandy. 40% Alc./Vol. International review of Spirit Award: Gold Medal (2002) 94 points (Exceptional). - tastings.com

...This rum is a gorgeous, ruddy toffee color, perhaps a shade more amber than the standard 23. The nose, unsurprisingly, evokes more age, as well, with deeper notes of aged wine and seasoned oak that pair well with elements of dried fig, sticky prune, dark roast coffee, and creamy milk chocolate. The palate is still bright with all that citrusy, sherry-driven fruit, although a rich layer of dark brown sugar underpins things, adding a silky depth and gentle complexity. Coffee notes, nutty and lightly spiced, dominate the mid-palate before a reprisal of fruit on the long finish, this time more Cognac-driven with golden stone fruits and some poached pear. All told, it’s only a bit more impressive than the standard Zacapa 23, but that’s still saying something. A great special occasion sipping rum. If you can spare the shelf space. - drinkhacker.com

Kitajima Brewery was established in 1805 in Shiga Prefecture near lake Biwa. As one of the oldest and most respected sake breweries in Japan, Kitajima produce a range of full flavoured and fruitier styles. Miyosakae is their traditional core range, while in 2002 they developed the Kitajima range for more innovative releases using the kimoto natural starter method. This The Octopus of Shiga Bay release uses the highly coveted Yamada Nishiki strain of rice.

Tasting note: Very pale water white in the glass with a faintly cloudy appearance. Initially aromas are quite exuberant in fruit, with a wealth of green melon, cantaloupe, pear, white peach and plum aromas. The earthy rice driven notes are there, yet it expresses fruit first, finishing with some white pepper and salt lift lending character. On the palate there's a similar approach with fruit flavours up front and savoury elements follow through the finish. Green melon, white peach, edamame, leading to nougat and cream, and that hint of crusty salt and pepper seasoning to close. There's commendable concentration of flavour in an elegant, broad appeal style. The mix of fruit and savoury elements work well, and the barest hint of sweetness only adds to this very enjoyable sake. Serve chilled.

2003 Gordon & Macphail Speymalt from Macallan 20 Year Old Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
    Speyside, Highlands, SCOTLAND
    $999. 00
    Bottle
    $11988.00 Dozen
    ABV: 57.7%

Gordon & Macphail announced several years ago that their 'Speymalt from Macallan' series will continue to be bottled occasionally, however, they'll only be released in 'selected' worldwide markets. Australia doesn't seem to be one of those, and we suspect the whisky in question was scheduled for the US. Twenty years old, single cask, cask strength and sourced from one of Scotland's most prestigious independents, good things have been said about some of these early 2000 G&M Macallans - no doubt partly because the bottler continues a practice of filling and maturing in their own casks rather than buying 'ready made' malts and then finishing them off for a year or two. This way, G&M maintain as much quality control as is possible for an indie. Judging by the colour alone, this looks to have been very active on the sherry front and has all the hallmarks of a strong distillery expression. Presumably non-chill filtered, but not stated on the label, cask #13603609 yielded 298 bottles at 57.7% Alc./Vol.

Notes from the bottlers... Sweet stewed fruit aromas with cinnamon and ginger spice. The palate has forest fruits, toasted hazelnuts and black pepper. The finish has charred oak and citrus peel.

Note: May be supplied labelled as either Bushfire or Hellfire Chilli Bitters. Products are the same.

Born from a father–son weekend ritual and a passion for new bold flavours, Bushfire Chilli Bitters brings a fiery, smoky twist to the world of artisanal bitters. Each batch, meticulously crafted in Wyong, undergoes a precise extraction process to capture the heat and depth of the native Australian Broome Chilli and smoked habanero, setting it apart from other chilli bitters. The result is a versatile, punchy blend that adds an exciting kick to both classic and contemporary cocktails without overpowering them. 46% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews... Hellfire is a game-changer. It’s got just the right balance of heat and smoke that elevates any drink – from Margaritas to even a Spicy Old Fashioned. My customers rave about it, and I love being able to support an Aussie product that's so well-crafted. - Bartender.

Experimental de Christian Drouin Springbank Cask Finish 19 Year Old Calvados (700ml)
    Normandy, FRANCE
    $240. 00
    Bottle
    $2880.00 Dozen
    ABV: 50.4%

Christian Drouin's relationship with Springbank is not new. Nearly twenty years ago the Campeltown distillery used their calvados casks for aging a parcel of whisky. Drouin are now returning the compliment in this unique collaboration that marks five years of the Experimental range. The challenge was to harmonize Calvados' rich apple flavours with the slightly peaty notes of Springbank. After five months finishing in eight barrels, the brandy has achieved a unique and complex profile, seducing with its subtle balance of roasted apple sweetness and West Highland smoke. Guillaume Drouin adds, "Springbank is one of the most esteemed distilleries among connoisseurs. For us it was a great emotion to work with their barrels.” Lovers of single malt may find a satisfying 'malternative' in this genuine limited edition - just 2,130 bottles are available globally. 50.4% Alc./Vol.

Notes from the producers... The nose opens with deep notes of toasted apples with smoky aromas. It evolves then on aromas of plum and clafouti with slightly earthy accents. On the palate it is rich, opulent, structured, marked by toasted notes. The peat expresses itself in the finish. A majestic calvados of strength and power.

Another flavour variation in a series that focuses on 'contrasts' is this 2024 limited-edition matured in Virgin American oak - an emerging trend in European whisky. While not for everyone, virgin oak casks impart wood-forward flavours that beckon to fans of American whiskey. Aged for ten years, expect notes of dried banana, Seville orange and butterscotch. 46% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.

Other reviews...  Quite light to begin with, doesn’t jump out from the glass, making it hard to nail down. Vanilla custard, strawberry laces, a hint of warm hay. Palate: Buttery and pleasant with a bit of banana. A slight note of flamed orange and toasted malt as the sip progresses. Finish: Well rounded, with a sugary note. Comment: Perfectly pleasant and easygoing, a gentle weekday dram. - whiskymag.com

    Highlands, SCOTLAND
    $119. 99
    Bottle
    $1439.88 Dozen
    ABV: 43%

The perfect introduction to independent bottler, Gordon & MacPhail’s impressive collection of whiskeys, the Discovery Range comes in three main flavour profiles: sherry, bourbon and smokey. Although Tomatin's production is mainly intended for blends, it's also appreciated as a standalone malt, noted for its delicate, fruity profile (think tropical fruits, green apples and honeydew melon). Filled into barrel in 2010 and entirely matured in first-fill bourbon barrels to highlight its fruity character, this promises a classic, pure Highland expression devoid of embellishment, the oak contributing coconut and light toast. 43% Alc./Vol.

Formed in 1966, Domaine du Bouchet is now owned by Antoine Gouffier who purchased the 10 hectare estate in 2019. Antoine is a native of Saint Andelain, though he spent years abroad gaining experience in the USA, New Zealand, Middle East, Argentina and notably in South Africa. Upon returning to France, he purchased the estate from Pascal Kerbiquet, a local figure who had made a name for himself working organically and with biodynamic farming. In very short time Antoine has risen to prominence, and in 2022 was named “Discovery of the Year 2022” by the French wine magazine La Revue du Vin de France.

While only displaying a slight blush of colour, Orange is very much the textural and complex delight these skin contact wines are famed for. Six months on skins has lent a generous degree of pithy bitter fruit notes with hints of spice and Campari to close. A very good example of the style.

    Other Reviews....
If you like Campari or Negroni, you will love the 2021 Orange with its herbal character reminiscent of fennel and dill, plus a bitter twist thanks to six months of skin contact. It's fresh and firm with a phenolic grip, white pepper sprinkle and elderflower-like character on the pure finish. The 2021 is balanced and clean. Drink 2023-2026.

From the “normal white” color in the glass, you might not guess that this was an orange wine, but once you start on it you’ll get it. Concentrated bead of red-peach and spicy flavors and plenty of drive though the medium-bodied palate. Structured and slightly tannic, as befits the category. From biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification. Lots of character. Hard not to like this. Enjoy now.

A collaborative effort from Buffalo Trace Distillery, 'Traveller' brings together the collective artistry of 10X Grammy award-winning artist, Chris Stapleton and Buffalo Trace Distillery Master Distiller, Harlen Wheatley. Over fifty blends were sampled before making Blend No.40 the chosen combination. Little is known about the whiskey, what it's composed of, and whether or not any of the whiskey within the blend was even distilled at Buffalo Trace. However, Sazerac has confirmed that it contains 0% grain neutral spirits and has also stated it is a completely unique combination of whiskeys hand selected from multiple distilleries. 45% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews... The first celebrity-themed whiskey associated with Buffalo Trace, Traveller Whiskey offers a unique flavor profile that will appeal to the masses, but leaves more discerning consumers wondering what actually makes up the blend...First and foremost, the flavor profile is unfamiliar, arguably sweet to a fault, but will likely satisfy casual, mainstream whiskey drinkers. It’s mild enough for the masses to sip, while it is light it does offer a degree of creaminess that allows it to take a cube fairly well, and it even holds up well in a cocktail. While its flavor profile may be tuned more into the mainstream drinker than the enthusiast, it’s impossible to ignore the fact that this blended whiskey is unique in a number of ways. - breakingbourbon.com

Notes from the producers... Complex aromas of vanilla, aged fruit and buttery shortbread rounded off by caramel and a touch of oak. The palate has just a touch of sweetness, followed by spice, toasted nut and oak flavors, with a robust finish.

Don Fulano 100% Agave Blanco Tequila (700ml)
    Jalisco, MEXICO
    $129. 99
    Bottle
    $1559.88 Dozen
    ABV: 40%

Don Fulano Tequila is the fruit of five generations of agave growers and a distilling heritage that brings together the Highlands of Jalisco and the Valleys of Tequila. Today the Fonseca family are not only respected farmers – they also run La Tequileña, one of the highest-rated and most awarded of Jalisco's distilleries. It is also the last family-owned operation that is 100% self-sufficient in agave supply, allowing them to control the quality of their tequila from farm to bottle. They introduced the Don Fulano brand back in 2002. Says Lance Cutler, California-based Author and Winemaker, “Fonseca consistently creates tequilas rich with agave character yet graced with a delicate finish. His penchant for long-term barrel aging allows him to blend in ways never before seen in tequila production. In effect, Fonseca has created an entirely new class of tequila.”

Don Fulano's Blanco is rested for six months in stainless steel before bottling. The aromas open resiny, developing an earthy, lightly smokey agave edge alongside dill, white pepper and green tomato chutney. Nicely weighted, the supple, juicy delivery is complemented by low-burn alcohol, trailing off with hints of candle wax, potpourri, brine, mustard pickle and pepper. Give it enough breathing time and you have a classic, complex, full-bodied Blanco that's engaging from start to finish. 40% Alc./Vol. Tasted from a 30ml sample.

Other reviews... Clear color. Earthy, tropical, peppery, vegetal aromas and flavors of dill, salinity, green mango, white pepper, and chicory with a supple, shy, dry thin body and a tingling, long finish conveying notes of vanilla, caramel, cream, and white tea. A bright, lightly spicy and very well-balanced blanco for sipping or cocktails. 93 points - tastings.com

Peppery and lightly green on the nose, but also laced with notes of cinnamon, giving the tequila a certain breakfast-adjacent quality. Otherwise it’s mild and approachable, one of the gentlest blanco tequilas I can recall nosing in years. The palate hardly detracts from that setup, adding notes of lemon and lime peels to that baking cabinet quality. A simple grind of white pepper, a spritz of floral perfume, and a gentle note of vanilla linger as the finish — short and to the point — comes into focus. If you like your blanco tequila clean and shiny, this blanco will not disappoint. - drinkhacker.com

Nose: earth/ mineral/ pepper / hint of banana/ hint of citrus / lemongrass / hay / hint of alcohol Taste: sweet agave / vanilla/ earth / cinnamon/ anise / banana / pear / cherry / orange/ grapefruit/ anise / spearmint/ hint of cream soda Finish: very light viscous mouthfeel/ very nice smoothness across the whole taste / cool water effect / lingering anise, agave, cinnamon notes This blanco has a lot of great flavors and aromas working together. It has a nice balance between the sweet and cinnamon spicy that provides a very gratifying experience. The nose is weak and the alcohol is a touch more prevalent than what should be for a well made 40% abv, but it’s not a point stealing issue. It’s good overall, but with a touch more refinement it could be next level. - tequilamatchmaker.com

The Ambonnay based Egly-Ouriet are a reference point for grower producers in Champagne, known for their impeccable vineyard management and fastidious winemaking skills. Much of their production is raised in oak barrels, with extended aging on lees a feature. As usual with Francis Egly's millesime, the blend is 70% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay from the same 40-year-old vines in Ambonnay, aged in barrel until bottling.

    Other Reviews....
The 2015 Champagne Millésime is a bright straw color and is ripe and fruity on the nose, with aromas of black cherries, fresh violets, savory saline, and a hint of umami richness. The palate is full-bodied, with no phenolic bitterness, and never feels overtly savory. Pure, juicy, and inviting, it’s lovely and long on the palate, with a very pretty finish and a refined mousse that just frames the wine. It has a delicate note of toast that it needs time to harmonize, but I love what they have done with this vintage. Drink 2025-2045.

Nosing reveals aromas of ripe cherry, red plum and red liquorice trailed by some fresh herb, delicate earth and spicy cedar notes. Light and fresh across the palate with red cherry fruits to the fore. Subtle winter strawberry, fresh herb and delicate spicy earth elements ensue. Fine grained tannins with an elegant and bright red fruited conclusion.

Made from Sangiovese grapes using the saignee method. Salmon pink tinged colour. Intense strawberry, raspberry and blood orange scents jump out of the glass followed by some wet stone and spice notes. Delicious peach, strawberry and blood orange fruits have a gentle tangy feel over a stony mineral back drop. Finishes bone dry and savoury with crisp acidity. Supplely textured yet spicy finish.
    Drink over the next year.
