Bushmills 16 Year Old Single Malt Irish Whiskey (700ml)
    County Antrim, IRELAND
    Reduced from $184.99
    $169. 99
    Bottle
    $2039.88 Dozen
    ABV: 40%

This ever popular bottling from the world's oldest licensed distillery (est.1608) delivers a triple-wood attack: x-Bourbon barrels (which typically lend vanilla notes to the whiskey), Spanish Oloroso Sherry casks (contributing rich fruit and nuts), then finally, it's transferred to old port casks for the last months of its maturation. These casks bring sweet berry notes and a hint of ruby red to the final whiskey.

Other reviews... This unique whiskey has lots of the hallmarks of Irish — a nutty almond backbone, hints of banana and coconut, and an earthy, honeyed finish. But there’s much more going on here, too, that adds ample complexity. The sherry is big on the front, offering more than just the usual orange oil and orange peel notes you get with sherried Scotch but also deep, oxidized sherry character, something that must come from many years in a sherry barrel rather than a simple finish. I don’t get a whole lot of Port here (it spends just 6 to 9 months in that final barrel), though the deep burnt amber color is a clear indicator of its impact. Hints of dark chocolate-covered-cherries on the finish are the only real remnants of the Port, with a surprising amount of roasted barley notes overwhelming the picture in the end. Tons going on here, and for the most part they all work well together. - drinkhacker.com

The most northerly of Northern Ireland’s distilleries, Bushmills ages this spirit in bourbon and oloroso casks before finishing in port wine casks. The sweet notes of fat, ripe blueberries, plum flesh, and dusty, dry warehouses sketch out the nose. It lands on the tongue dry but piquant, then the fruit swarms all over it; blueberry, black currant, and apple, with hazelnut, chocolate pralines, black pepper, and spice. This was once the pick of the range, but the port influence seems feistier than older bottlings and I miss how smooth this used to taste.

... Nose: Big, fat and sweet. Butter and raisins. Forms slowly with pineapple, stewed fruits, malted milk, coconut, cereal, cocoa, orange. Big (but balanced) oak. Palate: Round and rich. Sweet dried fruits, brazil nut, coffee, soft malt, popcorn. Good grip. Oak in balance. Finish: Long. Hazelnut. Comment: Plenty of oak but the spirit holds its own. An extra dimension to the 10 Year Old.  80 points - David Broom, whiskymag.com

...Nose: a touch of sulphur detracts somewhat from the fresh fruit delivery. Still get pomegranates, though! Taste: seismic waves of spicy fruit, juicy and salivating in effect; Finish: that haunting of poor sherry just takes the edge off the fun... 88 points

"The fragrance on the nose is quite intense with dried fruit and nuts due to the wine finishes on most of the whiskey. Oatmeal raisin cookies, nuts, a dose of dark chocolate, these are all presented on a silver platter. There is an amiable amount of char smoke throughout the dram." 82 points - distiller.com

Chopin Rye is the second of three premium vodka's now produced at the Podlaska Wytwórnia Wódek Polmos distillery in Poland, which also include Potato and Wheat. Each release aims to showcase the unique textures and flavours found through production of each primary ingredient, as opposed to total neutrality. The final product is created utilising golden rye, grown in the Podlasie countryside of eastern Poland. The mash is distilled four times and five times filtered to create a texturally soft and fruity flavoured Vodka synonymous with the Rye grain.

Other reviews... Clear. Mild grain pastry and creamy meringue aromas and flavors with a soft, off-dry medium body and a smooth, mineral, vanilla taffy and delicate pepper accented finish. A very clean, silky vodka with a sweet spicy snap.

Suntory Yamazaki 18 Year Old Single Malt Japanese Whisky (700ml)
    Yamazaki, Kyoto, JAPAN
    Reduced from $1,599.00
    $1499. 00

Note: Product has come from a private collection and as such has some minor scuffing/scratches/handling marks. Actual product not shown.

Shinjiro Torii, the founder of the Suntory company, was a pharmaceutical wholesaler importing liquor from the West before he was inspired to create a uniquely Japanese whisky. In 1923 he built the country's first malt whisky distillery (in fact, the first of its kind outside of Scotland) on a site in the Vale of Yamazaki outside Kyoto where pure water, a diverse climate and high humidity made it an ideal environment for whisky production and maturation. To complete the formula, Torii hired Masataka Taketsuru (of Nikka fame) who had studied the art of distilling in Scotland. In 1929, the company introduced Suntory Shirofuda (Japanese for white label), Japan's first genuine domestically produced whisky. Kakubin (square bottle), a premium Japanese whisky, was born in 1937. The whiskies have become more and more sophisticated over the decades, in particular the older bottlings under the Yamazaki label.

Local malting of barley was abandoned in 1969 and today malted barley is bought from Scotland. A significant number of European oak x-Sherry casks (mainly oloroso) make up the maturation regime for this whisky; second come x-Bourbon American oak casks, then a small percentage (approx 5%) from the domestic Japanese oak species, 'Mizunara'. Japanese oak tends to impart spicier, sweeter and sometimes more tannic notes than the previous two. Experimentation continues with sandalwood and cedar as well as casks which have previously contained Japanese Plum wine.

Other reviews... Deep, mature in nature, and very complex. Notes of polished leather, maple syrup, and dark pit fruit, with suggestions of tobacco smoke, wood shavings, and unsweetened chocolate. References to fine old bourbon and ultra-matured pot-still rum provide intrigue. Proof that Japan produces some outstanding, distinctive whiskies. Nicely done! 93 points - www.maltadvocate.com

El Dorado 15 Year Old Rum (700ml)
    GUYANA
    Reduced from $129.99
    $109. 99
    Bottle
    $1319.88 Dozen
    ABV: 43%

Wow! No wonder this was rated the best rum in the world at the International Wine and Spirit Competition four years running: A superb expression. Easily one of the very best rum buys on our shelves.

El Dorado's somewhat quaint, maritime label belies what is a very sophisticated wood-aged spirit. A go-to rum for anyone in the know, this extra-aged blend which is at least 15 years old, (though some components are much older) delivers the kind of class and complexity you'd expect to pay much, much more for. The distillery combines the most up-to-date equipment with a wealth of traditional expertise, including old-style Demerara pot stills and patent rum and alcohol stills. The last fully operating rectangular wooden Coffey still in the Western world continues to be used for the production of the company's finest spirits. This is certainly one. Serve it to friends who haven't experienced 'good rum.' It sets a high bar and rarely fails to please.

Tasting note: Very deep copper penny colour. Momentary varnish blows off to reveal a stunning amalgam of dried banana and baking spice that's sweet yet fresh; brief exposure adds complexing notes of mango tart, pistachio nut, raisin cake and molasses. Immediately impresses with a superb, plush, silky entry and succulent flavours of grilled mango, moist banana cake and fresh molasses. Excellent sweet / dry balance. Aftertaste resonates with caramel / sticky date pudding, dilute golden syrup and late liquorice bullets in the fade. Super long. A salivating and utterly luxurious dark rum. [43% Alc./Vol. batch tasted]

Other reviews... Attractive, rich copper-amber hue. A complex nose of confectioner's sugar, banana, cedar, and iodine. A silky entry leads to a moderately full-bodied palate of vibrant-yet-refined dry caramel and grilled tropical fruit flavors braced by warm alcohol and firm, smooth oak spice. Somewhat Scotch-like, with subtle peaty overtones. Beautifully proportioned and designed for long contemplative sipping. Winner of "Best Spirit of 2001" Award. International Review of Spirits Award: Platinum Medal 96 points (Superlative) - tastings.com

...ups the age another three years, creating a spirit even darker in color and richer in flavor. Wood comes through stronger on this one, with mint and herb fading into the background. Again it’s the brown sugar body that impresses deeply, with a rich mouthfeel that makes this one easy to sip. The only false note is a touch of harshness on the palate as it first hits the tongue, but the finish is extremely smooth. - drinkhacker.com

Laphroaig 10 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)

"So consistent is the Laphroaig 10, that this is one of the whiskies I test myself each day with to check that my nose and palate are on song". - Jim Murray

From the remote island of Islay in the Western Isles of Scotland. Laphroaig, pronounced 'La-froyg', is a Gaelic word meaning 'the beautiful hollow by the broad bay'. The full history of Laphroaig seems to be lost in the mists of time. It's clear that the Irish had been distilling on Islay for many years and that the locals picked up the skills when they left, but because it was illegal the small stills on the farms were rarely discussed - just a nod and a wink in the right direction! What is known, is that the family called the Johnstons started farming there around 1800, and that soon after messers Charles and Willie Doig were asked to do some 'work on a distillery' at Laphroaig. By 1815 Laphroaig's reputation had spread and the tax man was getting suspicious so they 'officially' established 'Johnston & Johnston' - the legend of Laphroaig had begun.

Laphroaig is a malt to either love or hate. Full of the smoke and iodine, seaweed character Islay has become famous for, it has spurred some commentators to describe it as 'mouthwash', 'hospital gauze' or at best, 'medicinal'. Suffice to say, this is not a whisky for the faint hearted. Take Laphroaig neat like a stalwart, or with a splash of soft water. Roll it around on your tongue, release the pungent earthy aroma of blue peat smoke, the sweet nuttiness of the barley, the delicate, heathery perfume of Islay's stream and either swallow or spit. The final judgment on Laphroaig must always be left to the individual. 40% Alc./Vol.

Re-tasted 2019... Tamer than previous incarnations, earthier too with a farmyard edge. Less iodine / elastoplast than before, more peppermint, baked citrus, kipper and lanolin, creaming up towards the finish, trailling off with hints of Fisherman’s Friend.

Other reviews... "...as timeless and awe-inspiring as the Oa on Islay..." 95 points - Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2025-26

...An essay in voluptuousness. The oils speak volumes here, gathering the two-toned phenols and gathering them in all corners of the palate and ensuring they stick there... The finish is not so much enormous as controlled and long, with a sublime bit of mocha moving in for the last blissful moments. Glorious still, after all these years. 40% alc./vol. 94 points - Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2019

...This expression offers an uncompromising note of brine-laden peat and iodine, with charcoal and sweeter fruit notes also present. The palate is equally out there, with old-fashioned fabric Band-Aids, bladderwrack seaweed, black pepper, smouldering peat, vanilla, caramel, and sweet oak. The finish is as big as everything else, with barbecue, iodine, and asphalt. Still a classic! 92 points - whiskyadvocate.com (Fall 2018)

...I know this bottle is from 2024, because I bought it in the supermarket last Christmas and then forgot about it, until now… Colour: gold (still some caramel deployed no doubt). Nose: hey, Bonfanti rotation 76! I’m kidding. But it is fruitier than some other recent batches to my mind, some pineapple in syrup, some mango chunks, then damp hessian and cooling wort. Behind that a, softer than usual I would say, waft of TCP and iodine. I have to say, this generally softer and fruitier profile is really great. Mouth: a more typical modern arrival, with a little more weight towards the vanilla, the oak spice, but still balanced well enough by banana chips, some wood smoke and peat, some lanolin and camphor and then a bit of pine wood and wet rope. It feels less peaty overall than recent years, but at the same time the palate is still a tad too driven by the wood influence for my taste. In time those underlying DNA building blocks of peat smoke, iodine and seawater come through. Finish: medium, some charming herbal peat smoke and smoked teas, camphor, pine resin and cedar. Comments: same as usual 40% etc, blah blah blah. However, I really enjoyed the nose on this particular occasion, it felt surprisingly fruity for a change, whereas the palate a little more in line with what you would expect from present era 10yo. As ever, contradictions, frustrations and fascinations in equal measure. Pour one dram in a copita to nose, and one larger measure in a tumbler to sip. Last time I properly recoded notes was in 2016 and back then it was WF84, I think we can go one notch higher today thanks to that lovely nose… 85 points - whiskyfun.com

A seductive after-dinner Caol Ila to melt into dark chocolate or blue vein cheese.

The combined effect of the Moscatel cask and European oak can work particularly well with peated Islay spirit - so long as it's not overdone. Six months finishing in the sweet Moscatel dessert wine casks has resulted in a decidedly different Caol Ila. On the nose, there's a creamy, soft, sweet peat - think smokey vanilla wafer. Second pass suggests fennel / herbal tea over citrus lozenge. The oily, smokey fruit'n'nut-chocolate delivery maintains a fine sweet/dry balance, rounded off with sufficient zest and spice to counter the moscatel input. Liquorice bullets and lanolin in the aftertaste. A seductive after-dinner Caol Ila to melt into dark chocolate or blue vein cheese. 43% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews... The finish in question here is Muscatel casks and you can tell that from the start, as the nose is filled with a rich, sweet, and very pronounced dusky fruitiness — sloes and plums. The smoke as a result is diminished as are the grassy/bacony notes. While the smoke does emerge from its fruity bubble on the tongue, the effect is almost liqueur-like. It's a very pleasing dram, but the question is, is it Caol Ila? 80 points - whiskyadvocate.com

"Laphroaig how I've never quite seen it before." 96 points - Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2021

Matured in a combination of casks including x Bourbon, first fill Sherry butts and quarter casks, ‘Lore’ is a marriage of Laphroaig of many ages, with some liquid distilled back as far as 1993. Distillery Manager John Campbell, comments, "It’s a massive whisky, as bold as it is deep, and one that I sincerely hope does justice to the many generations of Laphroaig distillery managers".

Tasting note: Pale gold. Opens with a strong lanolin accent and develops with hints of orange cake and dilute iodine but not the overpowering medicinal notes associated with younger distillery bottlings; second pass takes on an earthy aspect that's more like lucerne mulch / manure, then finally the sweet malt / rock lolly notes come to the fore. Medium dry, clean, fresh entry develops flavours of sweet smoke, dark chocolate, Fisherman's Friend and salted caramel fudge in the finish. Concludes delicately bitter (like fine dark chocolate) with a lingering lanolin / iodine / salt'n'pepper tang. Some PX sherry input here? Beautifully balanced at 48% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews... Laphroaig how I've never quite seen it before - and we are talking some 40 years of intimately studying this malt; truly a lore unto itself.

Glenfarclas 105 Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
    Speyside, Highlands, SCOTLAND
    Reduced from $174.99
    $129. 99

Cask strength whiskies have not always been available to the general public. In fact, the very idea was incidental, and only materialised in 1968 when a fourth generation member of the Grant family bottled a single cask straight from the warehouse, and sent the bottles to family and friends as Christmas gifts. George S. Grant created a simple, hand written label for the bottles noting only the name of the distillery and the strength of the whisky (which happened to be 105 British Proof.) By the end of January the recipients requested further bottles. George obliged, and since then, Glenfarclas 105 has gone onto become one of the most highly sought after expressions in the Glenfarclas range.

The increasing popularity of cask strength single malts comes as no surprise. They provide an opportunity to taste whisky in its purest and most natural form without visiting a distillery, and conversely, to dilute to your preferred strength rather than the bottler's. Typically, they have minimal or zero filtration which tends to retain more flavour and texture. One has to take the good with the bad. Extreme alcohol can be prickly, and can even anaesthetise the mouth resulting in a less pleasurable experience. A high tax/alcohol ratio also means such spirits can be excessively pricey. If there was a holy grail of malt, then for many it would be the discovery of affordable cask strength whisky that's also achieved balance - to the degree that you can enjoy it undiluted. This is one. There are 'softer' cask strength releases on the market, but rarely in this style.

Tasting note: Beautiful polished brass / amber gold. Opening pass detects toffee apple, polished leather and juicy, grapey malt. Second pass finds marzipan and toasted oats followed by crunchie bar and intense vanilla. The aromatic range is matched on the palate, delivering a concentrated, medium dry, peppery attack with a delicious interplay between sugar, tannin and spice. Bracing yet balanced. Finishes with flashes of dates, creme-caramel and crunchie bar before drying with oatmeal biscuit, toffee apple and dappled explosions of sweet spice. Those who religiously follow Aberlour's Abunadh will discover similar thrills here. Tremendous whisky. 60% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews... long, luxurious, with a pulsing vanilla grape mix and a build up of spices; light oils intensify and elongate. I doubt if any restorative on the planet works quite as well as this one does. Or if any sherry cask whisky is so clean and full of the joys of Jerez. A classic malt which has upped a gear or two and has become exactly what it is: a whisky of pure brilliance. 95.5 points
    - Jim Murrays Whisky Bible 2014

...This Scotch is named for the proof (105) of a bottle that Chairman John Grant’s father, George S. Grant, bottled in 1968 as a Christmas gift for family and friends. Nut-colored, it has a markedly bold toffee aroma and lots of flavor and drama. Hazelnut, espresso and cocoa flavors linger, with hints of allspice and drying oak tannins. Though it needs more than a splash of water to arrive at a nuanced sippability, don’t hold that against this almost Bourbon-like beauty. 95 points - wineenthusiast.com

...Sweet scents of Boston cream pie, citrus, and fresh forest, growing more fragrant as the liquid rests in the glass. On the palate, the citrus sweetens to baked orange tart and lemon meringue pie, with underpinnings of chocolate malt, raisins, and pepper spice. The mouthfeel is creamy and concentrated, and the finish is like a rich, full, spiced chocolate dessert. Water enhances things, bringing out more spice and chocolate. 93 points - whiskyadvocate.com, reviewed by: David Fleming 2021

...I'm really following these seminal NASses, the 104-then-105, but last time I tried it that was in 2017 (WF 86). Colour: light gold. Didn't the 105 lose some colour over time? Nose: I seem to remember quite some sherry used to be involved, but this time we're rather on malty and leafy stuff, fruit peelings, honey-glazed vegetable (try that, eggplants, turnips…) and beers. With water: beers, bitters, roasted nuts, pumpernickel. The blackest, moistest breads. Mouth (neat): I find this extremely good, if a little brutal, which was the whole point anyway. Huge maltiness, roasted nuts, concentrated syrups, artichokes and Brussels sprouts, stout… With water: takes water extremely well, it is ready for the 100 metres freestyle at the Tokyo Olympics. Excellent sweeter maltiness, barley syrup... Finish: rather long, perhaps a tad sweet(ish) but all these breads and grains can't be wrong. Comments: gold medal! What a drop, this 105, one day post-Covid we'll go to the distillery and do the largest verticale of 104-105s that's ever been done. For example, this one was maltier, and less sweet than a 2017 batch.

"...tough to put down. It’s a stellar base for elevated Scotch cocktails, too." - drinkhacker.com

Nominated as one of the twenty defining whiskies of the past twenty years by Malt Advocate back in 2013, this new incarnation of Arran 10 (as of 2026) has definitely improved since our last tasting. Most notably, it's softer and better integrated on the nose and palate than earlier bottlings; all those delicious red apple, stewed pear and dry curacao notes are retained, now wrapped up in a fluffy mid palate and a tongue-coating, oily finish that would charm the most selective malt snobs. Complexity takes second place to a special kind of mouthfeel few other distilleries can offer. Better length and balance, too, make for a compelling option in its price bracket. 46% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.

Other reviews... We last reviewed this whisky in 2012. Today the whisky is sweeter than I recall, the honey and nougat characteristics more immediate and vibrant on both nose and palate. Fresh, heathery granary notes give the palate a sense of the earth, with rolling notes of sweet breakfast cereal, a spritz of grapefruit peel, and just the lightest hint of rosemary. Definitely nutty on the finish, though my mention of almond notes 10 years prior is less distinct today, perhaps owing to the healthy slug of sweet honey that gives the whisky its exuberance. A light touch of green herbs returns on the finish — again, evoking rosemary. Arran 10 may not be overwhelming in its complexity — but it is, to be sure, tough to put down. It’s a stellar base for elevated Scotch cocktails, too. - drinkhacker.com

...Honey and fresh pear mingle on nose and palate of this single-malt Scotch from the Isle of Arran. Adding water cools the singe of alcohol heat and brings out a hint of smoke. Finishes light; sip or mix. 90 points - wineenthusiast.com

[Previous packaging] Launched in 2006 as the first mainstream Arran bottling with an age statement, it is sweet and malty on the nose, with fresh-planed wood and toffee apples. The palate is fruity, with ripe banana, honey, vanilla, coconut, and wood spices. Spicy orchard fruits and malt in the relatively long finish. Well-balanced and eminently drinkable at this age. The quality has improved since earlier bottlings.

One of Japan's biggest selling whiskies returns! Perfect in a highball with soda.

First created in 1937 by Shinjiro Torii, Suntory's founder and first Master Blender, this was initially named "Suntory Whisky," but became lovingly known as Kakubin, or "square bottle", due to its unique presentation. That name and the square-cut, tortoise-shell design have remained for more than eighty years. An easy-drinking and highly versatile Japanese bar standard, the Kakubin highball is the go-to for many Japanese out for a night of dining and fun.

Tasting note: Bright deep gold. Subtle grain and sour dough bread opening sniffs develop into delightful aromas of vanilla and orchard fruit (nashi pear?) Is there a whisper of smoke beneath this? A light, almost creamy entry follows through with a mildly fruity, dried grass and gently spicy mid palate. Deliciously juicy at the finish. Concludes fresh and dry with orchard fruit and hay-like flavours lingering. Light and easy, you could almost mistake this for young Glen Grant. Much of their production is raised in oak barrels, with extended aging on lees a feature. Brut Tradition is a blend of up of 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay from low yielding vines in Grand Cru terroirs, and is a wine that puts to shame many a prestige cuvee at double the price.

Please note: Disgorgement dates can vary. Please contact the store if you would like to check which disgorgement is currently available.

A fine satin like mousse shows good hold over a pale straw base with pale gold edgings. Very profuse and exceptionally fine bead. Superb aromatics of baked bread and yeast lees meld with subtle honeyed notes, pear, citrus and lightly roasted cashew. Very faint hazelnut end notes complete a complex sniff. Rich toasty baked bread and yeast lees characters pair with subtle pear and citrus flavours. Refined lacy feel with sculptured acidity lending tension on the mouth watering finish. Also evident are cashew and buttered brioche nuances. Long creamy oily baked bread and yeast lees tinged finish with a bite of refreshing citrus.

Even though it was only Disgorged: a few months ago, the NV Brut Tradition Grand Cru is super-expressive. The Brut Tradition brings together parcels in Ambonnay, Bouzy and Verzenay that, together, yield a Pinot-driven Champagne with tremendous breadth as well as cut. Red fruit, dried flowers, mint, spice and lemon confit are some of the aromas and flavors that build in this wonderfully open-knit, inviting Champagne from Egly-Ouriet.

With this release, based on the 2014 vintage and disgorged in June-July 2019, what was formerly Egly's Brut "Tradition" becomes simply his NV Brut Grand Cru, a simplification that paves the way for several new cuvées from this reference-point grower that I'll be reporting about in due course. Changes in nomenclature aside, the wine in the bottle has never been better, and the latest release soars from the glass with an expressive bouquet of golden orchard fruit, honeycomb, citrus zest and freshly baked bread. On the palate, it's full-bodied, deep and layered, with real concentration and intensity, built around racy acids and chalky dry extract. The finish is long and lingering.

From the very first cuvée, Egly-Ouriet is distinguished for its ability to preserve exacting precision and outstanding chalk mineral focus in the midst of magnificent generosity. A vinous wine of calm authority, carrying the full grandeur and complexity of carefully tended, low-yielding, old vine Pinot Noir on some of Champagne’s most revered grand crus… A paradox of luxurious generosity and crystalline purity.

"...cannot not remind us of Bruichladdich. In fact, it’s becoming immensely melony, this is quite spectacular." - whiskyfun.com

Another rare offering in the Flora and Fauna collection and one of Diageo’s best-kept secrets. In fact, of Speyside's fifty or so distilleries, Mannochmore is probably the hardest to find, both in terms of its physical location and market presence. Founded in 1971, its output remains destined for one of Diageo's blends (namely, Haigs which sells around 3 million bottles annually). Drowned out by the whispers of its more prominent neighbours, Longmorn and Benriach, the twelve year old Flora & Fauna edition which debuted in 1992 remains the first (and pretty much only) official bottling. The whisky seems to have found fans on the tasting panel at Whisky Magazine with both Martine Nouet and Dave Broom reviewing the whisky favourably, whilst Jim Murray didn't see the appeal.

Other reviews... Quite a greasy dram with sweet malt and bitter oak. 84 points - Jim Murrays Whisky Bible 2020

Already tried this baby, but wrote very meagre tasting notes. Colour: white wine. Nose: there’s a chalky grassiness at first, then more lemons and green apples, as well as touches of Provence melons, which cannot not remind us of Bruichladdich. In fact, it’s becoming immensely melony, this is quite spectacular. In the background, just touches of linseed oil, and perhaps orange blossom water. But this melon! Mouth: well, there sure is a little melon again, but there are more pears and apples, and then bags of cereals, barley, almond paste, earl grey tea, and in the back, a little chalk and more linseed oil. Soft citrus, perhaps citron liqueur. Finish: medium, a tad spicier. Comments: this one from an old opened bottle, so it may have benefitted from breathing. And no, I don’t store my bottles near the melon stash. Wow, this melon!  83 points - whiskyfun.com

Notes from the bottlers... NOSE: The first impression is sweet and lightly malty, then some aldehydic (green sticks) notes emerge and a slight whiff of brimstone. After a while, the green notes become green apples, and the sulphur notes more like carbon monoxide. With water, similar to the unreduced nose: fresh-fruity, with traces of 'Spangles' and acid drops, and still a hint of sulphur compounds in the background. Somewhat 'monochromatic' for a Speyside. PALATE: Fresh and clean – appetising with good acidity and a well-balanced dryness overall. FINISH: Surprisingly dry in the finish for a Speyside.

"...great surprise. Smart work on this one." - whiskyfun.com

One of the highlights in the new-look range, this harkens back to some of the earliest Arrans which were mostly matured in Sherry casks. Ginger snaps, cinnamon and fruit'n'nut dark chocolate aromas follow with a lovely dried fruit aspect (figs, dates, apricots). Bold but balanced; less sweet in the mouth than the nose suggests with taut dried fruit flavours leaning towards figs and apricots with a hint of new leather. Beautifully sustained spices through the middle stage, lingering with pepper, cinnamon and ginger bread. A flavoursome 'contemporary' sherried style that's different to traditionalists like Glendronach or Macallan, closer to the profile of a cask-strength cognac. 55.8% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.

Other reviews... The nose leans sweet with dulce de leche and dark berry jam, but it's countered with dark chocolate, dried rose petals, and a faint whiff of talc. The palate is thick with raisins, figs, candied ginger, orange peel, Concord grape jelly, rose oil, cocoa, and peppery spice, while the lengthy finish has persistent white pepper, dried ginger, chocolate, and burnt citrus. Dense with flavor thanks to its total sherry-cask maturation; give it time to fully reveal its depths. 94 points - whiskyadvocate.com

...Apparently, this is some young (7 or 8) Arran that's integrally aged in first fill sherry. So, hit or miss… Colour: deep gold. Rather pale despite the pedigree. Nose: fully, totally and integrally on damson pie or, as we say here in Alsace, tarte aux quetsches. A handful of Smyrna raisins too, raisin rolls, sweet ale… Pretty simple, but flawless this far. With water: gears towards ripe plums and jams. Preserved greengages and mirabelles. A very tiny bit of sour wood in the background, which is just nothing. Mouth (neat): I'm reminded of some batches of A'Bunadh, if that rings a bell to you. A little rough and hot, but pleasantly raisiny. Stewed peaches, pepper, cinnamon, raisins, fruitcake. A classic variation everywhere in unpeated Scotland. With water: well it takes water very well. Lovely sweeter, fruitier spices, Szechuan pepper and all that. Also those cherries that we had also found in the 25. Finish: rather long, rather fresh, with more raisins, Szechuan pepper, and overripe damsons! Comments: great surprise. Smart work on this one. 86 points - whiskyfun.com

Double Gold Medal - 98 points San Francisco World Spirits Competition 2024

The nose brings notes of honey, orange, sweet raisins, cherries and sponge cake. On the palate, the fruitiness continues with added notes of dried figs and limes. Notes of cacao and sherry follow with a hint of soot and a spicy finish. Category Winner - World Whiskies Awards 2025

Bushmills Madeira Finish 21 Year Old Single Malt Irish Whiskey (700ml)

    Reduced from $350.00
    $330. 00

    $3960.00 Dozen
    ABV: 40%

Bushmills 21 year old once again adorns our shelves amongst an increasing range of Irish. Production appears to have remained the same, with the whiskey aged nineteen years in Oloroso sherry and American Bourbon casks before marrying in Madeira 'drums' for its final two years. We were lucky enough to receive a 50ml sample. The first sniff evokes superbly pure scents of fruit pastries, vanillan oak, warm butter and fruit compote. Those notes are reflected in a silky, melt-in-your-mouth delivery where the wine input contributes hints of fruit jam and Madeira cake then dries with prunes, creaming soda, fruity dark chocolate and hazelnuts. It's a light bodied and breezy malt, yet full of flavour at the same time - a contradiction that makes you wonder how they pull it off - and with serious length to boot. 40% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews... Bushmills' sumptuous magnum opus spins aromas of sultana, brown sugar, walnut oil, date slice, chocolate-covered cranberries, leather gloves, and a hint of espresso. The dark, crepuscular mystique continues in the syrupy mouthfeel redolent of forest honey, banana bread, nuts, browned butter, sultana, date, and blackberry. Utterly beguiling, the Madeira finish works wonders here, right through to the last moments of the smooth, sweet finish. A must-try for all. 96 points - whiskyadvocate.com

"As Veruca Salt would say, "I want it now!" With the intensity of the sweet fruit and chocolate notes on the nose, could you blame her? The trail mix filled dram also has deep malt flavors with the texture creamy, not cloying. Towards the finish, the whiskey becomes dry and spicy. A comparable Scotch whisky would be almost double the price so snatch up what you can." 97 points - distiller.com

...oaky and drying, with complex notes of toffee, dark chocolate, toasted nuts, caramel and a spicy finish. 93 points - wineenthusiast.com

(n24.5) this remains something of a Chinese puzzle on the nose: just how do all those different notes, sometimes soft and rounded, sometimes hard and angular, many of them fruity, manage to intertwine...yet never clash? And why can you never detach one without another clinging onto it. If Sherlock Holmes tried to solve it, this would be a three pipe conundrum...except the use of tobacco would ruin the experience. Just marvel at the greenage and physalis, the flaked vanilla and liquorice, the ulmo honey and hickory...so much else besides; (t24) as melt-in-the-mouth as a whiskey can be: amazingly juicy barley offers the cutting edge and lead while a plethora of delicate sugars dissolve on impact; the fruit is solved as a perpetual mixed salad; (f23.5) this is where i am really impressed. Despite all the complexity of the nose and delivery, at the finish the Bushmills trademark flaky vanilla and delicate barley comes through...a signature unique to one distillery in the world; (b24) an Irish journey as beautiful as the dramatic landscape which borders the distillery. Magnificent. 95.5 points - Jim Murray Whisky Bible 2013

Scapa Glansa Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)

    Reduced from $119.99
    $99. 99
    Bottle
    $1199.88 Dozen
    ABV: 40%

'Glansa' which is Old Norse for "shining storm-laden skies" is a gently smoky Scapa initially aged in first-fill American oak casks, then finished in casks that previously contained peaty whisky. Compared to the unpeated Skiren, you get more of a saline / ocean breeziness to the nose; the peat is earthy but slight, the barley defined by orchard fruits; It's also fuller and spicier than its sibling, the peat adding an extra layer, weaving its way through the honeyed malt, followed by hints of sweet tea biscuits and baked fruits through the sprightly, tangy finish. This presents a dainty, airy kind of smoke, akin to Ardmore, or Scapa's famous neighbour - a good thing, as the distillate's finer points could easily be smothered. This has been sensitively handled. The result is a delicious 'aperitif' island style, possibly unique to Orkney. 40% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews… A delightful whisky which could be raised several notches in quality if the influence of the caramel is diminished. 91 points - Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2022

...Madeira notes on the nose, with vanilla, honey, and pears. Richly fruity on the palate, with cocoa powder, vanilla, caramel, and mild wood smoke. Dark berries emerge from the background. The dark fruits continue through the lengthy finish, where smokiness increases. 87 points
    - whiskyadvocate.com, reviewed by: Gavin Smith (Spring 2017)

[+/- 2021 bottling]...With an NAS at 40% vol., we don't speak much. It seems that this is finished in ex-peaty-malt casks, which is just in-cask blending in our book. They should call these (many do that these days) blended malts, no? Colour: gold. Nose: there, naturally, this rather works, with a feeling of Ardmore and some rather lovely whiffs of meadow flowers and lighter compost. I'm even finding notes of fino sherry (that mineral smoke) and fermented plums. Oh and bandages and ointments in the background. Mouth: a blended malt, rather on smoked coffee, with some cigar ashes and, once again, a rather smoky kind of sherry. We're extremely far from Scapa's light honeyed floralness, but indeed it's a fine drop. Good blended malt. Finish: I'm also finding a little mustard in this fine blended malt. More fino, that's great. Comments: congrats to the blenders, very fine piece of work. At 46% vol., this well-crafted in-cask blended malt would be a killer. And then, again, who am I. 84 points - whiskyfun.com

Planteray (formerly Plantation) Original Dark Double Aged Rum (700ml)
    Caribbean,

    $779.88 Dozen

The Pierre Ferrand Company has had relationships with a number of the Caribbean’s top rum producers for many years via the supply of x-Cognac casks. Presented with the opportunity to taste the fruits of his trade, Ferrand’s owner/director, Alexandre Gabriel, visited the Caribbean and was blown away. The experience ignited a love affair with rum, and followed with the launch of the Plantation brand around 2005. One of its key points of difference is Ferrand’s finishing process. When maturation in the Caribbean is deemed complete, the rums are transported at natural strength to the historic Ferrand estate in France and then ‘finished’ for several  months in small French Cognac barrels. This process was used extensively in the 18th and 19th centuries but has almost disappeared, with ninety-nine percent of rums now aged in barrels that previously held Bourbon. “It is a very difficult thing to get right, but when done well, it's paradise”; Gabriel concludes, "In the Caribbean, Plantation Rums are rare treasures. At Ferrand they become jewels.”

The brand's entry-level dark offering is predominately Barbados rum blended with a smaller amount of older Jamaican rum (aged 10 to 15 years).

Other reviews... The subdued aroma is woody, with just a hint of vanilla. But the palate tells a more complex story, opening with oak and vanilla before rounding to dark fruit, a fleeting hint of pineapple and dusty cocoa powder. Cinnamon and cayenne sparks emerge on the long, warming finish. 93 points - wineenthusiast.com

Plantation’s standby bottlings, a blend of dark rums with no age statement, finished in Bourbon casks. Very strong on the nose with coffee and raisin notes the most powerful elements, along with a hefty slug of hogo. On the palate, it’s more easygoing, but offers mushroom, more coffee grounds, and a slightly sweaty finish. A winner if you like your rum musky and a little funky. - drinkhacker.com

The 'Distiller's Edition' was originally developed for the French market.

Other reviews... A recent NAS from Cooley. Colour: white wine. Nose: oh! This is rather lovely. Lots of crushed nettles, New Zealand sauvignon blanc, grassy smoke, some kippers grilling in an adjacent room, herb butter, pebbles, flints and other assorted mineral notes. A few zingy citric notes as well. I find it clean and aromatically charming - whatever that means. Mouth:   soft, slightly herbal smokiness on arrival. Soft notes of tar, kelp, ointment, rubber fishing wellies and coal smoke. More cut grass, chopped parsley, lime juice and chalk. Maybe some salty porridge as well. Finish: Medium. All on sunflower oil, dry cereals, grass, lighter fluid, WD40 and parsley - dried this time. Comments: I should probably try more Connemaras. This one was pretty good. 86 points - whiskyfun.com

Connemara is a wild, mountainous region on the west coast of Ireland, lying between the Atlantic Ocean and Loughs Corrib and Mask. The local peat bogs are major fuel sources and have played an important role throughout Irish history in the production of whiskey. However, as many of the distilleries in Ireland were located alongside a canal, the transport and use of coal in distilleries became more efficient than peat. This temporarily killed the tradition of drying malted barley over peat fires to create peaty whiskeys. Managing Director of Cooley Distillery, David Hynes and chairman John Teeling resurrected this traditional Irish custom. Upon the brand's launch in 1996, noted whisky writer, Michael Jackson commented of Connemara “The revival of rustic peatiness adds a whole new element to today’s palette of Irish whiskey flavours…Lots happening. Chimney pots of smoke. I love this whiskey.” Still produced at the award winning Cooley Distillery, they remain the only widely available peated Irish expressions on the market today.

A fine, plentiful white mousse shows excellent hold over a pale straw, pale gold edged base wine that’s finely threaded by an exceptionally persistent bead. Wonderfully rich aromatics of oily baked bread, citrus and yeasty lees flow out of the glass followed by cashew, notions of dried honey and toast. The richness of the nose is reflected in the mouth with concentrated flavours of baked bread, yeast lees and citrus sitting over dried honey, brioche and roast nut like elements. Oily, creamy like textural feel finishing dry with refreshing acidity. Excellent power with a long oily baked bread, yeast lees, cashew, dried honey and roasted almond aftertaste. The newly presented and re-breanded High West Bourbon has dropped the words "American Prairie Reserve" from the label. The mash bill has also slightly changed, though we wouldn't expect the taste to be noticeably different and the company claims it's the same. Primarily made up of 75% corn, 21% rye and 4% barley malt from MGP blended with a straight Bourbon composed of 84% corn, 8% rye and 8% malted barley, other components are undisclosed for contractual reasons. Aged a minimum of two years and bottled non chill filtered, this is great in cocktails or suits easy-drinking. 46% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews... In a world where MGP sourced bourbon is everywhere, High West Bourbon tastes like MGP bourbon despite its other blended components. High West has done little to differentiate their blended bourbon from every other MGP sourced bourbon on the market. When American Prairie was originally released, there was a degree of higher expectation based on the company’s history, but at this point, with new owners and blenders, and a new brand name, this product needs to stand out, and prop itself up on its own two feet. Sadly, that still isn’t the case, and this product blends into the sea with so many other similar sourced and uninspired bourbons. - breakingbourbon.com

With a focus on Bas Armagnac and La Ténarèze, the house of Gelas is today led by Philippe Gelas, representing the fourth generation of the family to take the reins. He has been running the firm since late 2001, carrying on in the innovative spirit of his forebears by introducing single varietal Armagnacs, emphasising alternative styles, as well as vintage dated bottlings, exclusively from the year of harvest stated on the label. The exceptionally old 1959 is one from the archives, with Australia receiving a miniscule allocation,

Distilled in 1959 and bottled in 2018, this remarkable wood-aged spirit promises a sublime brandy experience. At around 50-60 years of age, the wood has infused its full quota of tannins and aromas to the liquid. At this stage, explains Gelas, the Armagnac is typically decanted into glass demijohns where it will continue to age in storehouses built by Baptiste Gélas in 1875. The period in glass continues to develop the brandy, helping to harmonize the aromas and preserve the characteristic rancio notes. 40% Alc./Vol.

A blend of the 2015 and 2014 vintages, Egly's emblematic NV Brut Blanc de Noirs Grand Cru Les Crayères was disgorged this year with only one gram per liter dosage. Bursting with aromas of mirabelle plum, Anjou pear and green apple mingled with notions of freshly baked bread, honeycomb and praline, it's full-bodied, layered and multidimensional, its satiny attack segueing into a deep, layered mid-palate of striking texture and concentration. Concluding with a long, intensely saline finish, it's another brilliant wine from a great producer at the top of his form. Drink 2023 - 2043.

The Four Roses distillery is located in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky on the banks of the Salt River in Anderson County. The distillery has a unique Spanish Mission-style architecture rarely seen in Kentucky and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The company attributes their products quality to several factors: A unique Limestone water source, the spring-fed Salt River; a high quality grain source (Four Roses are the only distillery using the same grain source for 45 years, paying a premium for quality); Two Mash Bills in daily production - one mash bill contains significantly more rye than any other Bourbon, resulting in a spicy, full-bodied taste; and five proprietary yeast strains, each producing uniquely different flavours.

Tasting note: Polished brass gold. Aromas of lamington cake and cherry ripe interchange with peppermint and drying oak as damp cedar wood enters. Lots of American oak input in the mouth: anise infused honey, cocoa and cherry ripe. A splash of minty-rye to finish. Rounds off finely tannic/peppery with hints of Turkish Delight and caramel fudge in the aftertaste. Youthful, but surprises with its complexity. Solid value if you're looking for a rye-heavy Bourbon. 45% Alc./Vol.

A premium, small batch Aussie gin priced to rival mass produced brands like Tanqueray and Bombay Sapphire. Offer holds for March only.

A vision for a new gin distillery in Brunswick began to take shape after "a few too many negronis at a local bar". As disciples of the craft movement, proprietors, Dave Irwin and Matt Argus wanted to keep it small-scale and local. They waited three years for their custom made, 230 litre Muller copper still to arrive from Germany. It uses a new technology which increases copper contact with the spirit to produce a more pure and aromatic distillate. The team also sought advice from Master Distiller, Anders Bilgram from Nordisk Branderi distillery in Denmark. "We knew we were getting closer to our final recipe, and that we were onto something, when Anders started requesting larger samples to be sent across the other side of the world." Ten botanicals were finally selected out of around one hundred that were tested. The first release of Patient Wolf sold out in a matter of days via a crowd-funding website. Batches have been rolling out ever since. Most botanicals are steeped overnight, including juniper, coriander seeds, cubeb pepper, orris root and tonka beans (native to South America). Ruby grapefruit and aniseed myrtle are infused in a botanical basket.

We tasted the second batch back in 2017, and by all reports, the boys have only further refined their craft. Patient Wolf opens with powerful aromas evoking orris and liquorice root over hints of black pepper. Exposure accents coriander, grapefruit, juniper and ups the freshness. The palate is silky on entry, leading into a viscous, pure, gently warming profile with creamy orris root, sage and coriander followed by a burst of piney juniper to finish. There's a subtle aftertaste of aniseed and white pepper. All up, it's a lively, interesting and cleverly composed contemporary gin that strikes a balance between traditional London Dry and New World styles. You could even say it's "Quintessentially Melbourne". 41.5% Alc./Vol.

Notes from the producers... Bright citrus of ruby grapefruit and fresh juniper are delicately balanced with subtle spice of aniseed myrtle, cubeb pepper, and tonka beans. Bold, complex and aromatic. A perfectly balanced Melbourne gin that will stand tall in drinks. It makes an incredible G&T with ruby grapefruit. Or try a Negroni or Martini.

"Exemplary blending skills and classically Hibiki." - whiskyadvocate.com

Launched in March 2015 as the fifth addition to Suntory's celebrated "Hibiki"collection, "Harmony" follows on from Yamazaki and Hakushu Distiller's Reserve which are also younger, NAS (no age statement) whiskies, aimed at maintaining sales due to the scarcity of older whisky stocks. (Several years ago, Nikka decided to discontinue a large number of their whiskies due to increased demand and a decrease in supply). Details of the composition of Japanese Harmony haven’t been revealed, but, like the Distiller’s Reserve, it's likely a blend of young and old material. Single malts entering in the blend come from Yamazaki and Hakushu distilleries, while grain comes from Chita. The whisky resounds with calm complexity and “Wa,” oneness - at least that's how the producers like to describe it. 43% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews... A soft and delicate nose offers vanilla ice cream, ripe banana, peach, and honey-sweetened breakfast cereal. The palate is gentle and smooth, but packed with flavors—more vanilla, peach, coconut flakes, lemon meringue, cherry tart, and blackberry jam—all balanced by peppery spice and fragrant oak. A long, nicely spiced finish offers balanced fruitiness, Creamsicle, and dark chocolate. Complex, balanced, deep, and well-spiced; an easy sipper. 92 points - whiskyadvocate.com (Fall 2024)

...Poised and complex, with typically lifted fruitiness: strawberry ice cream, pineapple, peach, balanced by delicate oak, bamboo shoot-like delicacy, then lemon. The palate is more rounded than that very forward nose, with toffee notes adding some weight. A touch of smoke comes along in the mid-palate, before fruits and caramelized coffee biscuits. Water allows the flavors to flood the palate. Exemplary blending skills and classically Hibiki. 90 points - whiskyadvocate.com, Reviewed by: Dave Broom (Winter 2015)

This is Four Roses' 'Table Bourbon' aimed at everyday drinking. Located in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky on the banks of the Salt River in Anderson County, the distillery has a unique Spanish Mission-style architecture rarely seen in Kentucky and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The company attributes their products quality to several factors: A unique Limestone water source, the spring-fed Salt River; a high quality grain source (Four Roses are the only distillery using the same grain source for 45 years, paying a premium for quality); Two Mash Bills in daily production - one mash bill contains significantly more rye than any other Bourbon employing five proprietary yeast strains, each producing uniquely different flavours.

Other reviews... One of the most fragile Kentucky Bourbons in the market place, but profiting from a sublime nose. 88 points - Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2021

...Lovely cinnamon candies offer an entrancing first taste, with lemon drop and orange sherbet close behind. Baking spices come on strong mid-palate, with undertones of caramel and vanilla. But what makes this special is its mouthfeel: tingly and warming the palate throughout. Cinnamon is ever-present. 87 points - whiskyadvocate.com

Nose: High-toned, crisp and citric: lemon, lime and tangerine peel with a hint of mintiness. Palate: Zesty. Lemon, honey and spice. Nice rye balance towards the finish. Finish: Touch of light woodiness getting oily as rye shows its hand. Comment: Very well-balanced. The uptown sophisticate, a discreetly charming member of the bourgeoisie. 40% Alc./Vol. Rating: 8/10  - David Broom, whiskymag.com

To complete the formula, Torii hired Masataka Taketsuru of Nikka fame, who had studied the art of distilling in Scotland.
Made from 100% malted barley, this 12 year old expression is produced in copper pot stills and aged in casks of three different kinds of oaks: American, Spanish and Japanese. Our tasting found a mild prickle to the malt that develops with aromas of stewed pear / apple tart, fine chocolate, vanilla, then finally sponge cake-like. Medium weight, stewed orchard fruit profile suggests a thread of peat, building in the mouth with a depth and texture reminiscent of Linkwood or Glenlossie at their best. 43% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews... The first thing you notice is the elegant fragrance of lychee, spring blossoms, lily, rosewater, and raspberry meringue. Deeper in, grassy notes with star fruit, kumquat, and kaffir lime leaves. The flavors offer perfection in their simplicity: silky honey, soft spices, crystalized pineapple, barley sugar, lemon, and orange. On the finish, the spices chatter on and on as the sweet citrus and honey fade in and out. One to cherish. 93 points - whiskyadvocate.com

...Deep amber/18-carat gold color; impeccable purity. This seductive opening aroma is gently spicy, malty and almost brown rice-like; the secondary aromatic profile is fully integrated, dusty dry, slightly woody/sappy and delicately spicy; understated, deep and enticing aroma of the first rank. Entry is firmly structured, moderately oily/viscous, nutty and candy bar-like; midpalate stage shows off a richness that’s world-class, toffee-like and woody/resiny. Ends richly, understated, nutty/nougaty and drier than the other two Suntory whiskies tasted for this issue. Excellent quality. Highly Recommended - spiritjournal.com

First tasted 2010 Bright pale gold appearance with a water like hue. Somewhat restrained. At first honeyed barley and pine wood like scents. With time in the glass subtle dried fruit notes emerge that are almost berry like. Unusual. A big, warming, spicy flavour-wave that subsides to reveal sweet barley, confectionary and vanilla notes accompanied by a trace of smokiness. Creamy back palate. Relatively abrupt aftertaste of dry, cedary oak with a subtle toffee fade. (from a miniature. The Yamazaki has been noted for batch variation. The batch No. here is unknown.) 86 points

"Now this is absolutely top class wine cask finishing...Sophisticated, elegant and classy." - Jim Murray's Whisky Bible

Lowland whiskies are generally used as background material for blends and have historically been unappreciated (or at least largely neglected) by malt enthusiasts. This expression breaks the mould. In its more familiar manifestation Glenkinchie is a lighter-bodied aperitif style. The Distiller’s Edition adds an extra dimension : Aged for 10 years in old Bourbon casks for weight and texture, the whisky is then finished in Amontillado Sherry casks from the Macharnudo district of Jerez. The result has absorbed some of the nutty character of the Sherry while also adding body. Its delicate sweetness will work with lighter-styled desserts. The nose offers soft stone fruits, then hints at nashi pear, muesli bar and later haystack / lucerne mulch. Middle weighted. Glides over the tongue with creamy, semi-sweet tea biscuit, light custard and vanilla bean flavours; finishes drier, highlighting hay, tangerine and later suggestions of nougat, cashew and hazelnut in the aftertaste. The delicate Lowland Lady gains some weight, and as far as wood finishes go, the balance is pretty spot on. 43% Alc./Vol.

Produced from organically grown agaves. Captivates with its assertive, salty perfume that reveals exotic oily, smokey agave, brine, pepper and vanilla notes. Not as vivacious as some competitors, being semi-sweet, creamy textured with a juicy roasted pineapple, vanilla and brine mid-palate; Ends sweeter, warming and peppery with a candied lime fade. For those who prefer softer, less traditional styles. Sip or mix with abandon - so long as you can forget the price tag! Kosher certified. 40% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews... This is a striking blanco, unlike any other I’ve tried. On the nose: Agave and peppers, a mere hint at what’s in the glass. Take a sip and Clase Azul’s Plata goes nuts: There is so much going on here I scarcely know where to start. First off: It’s bracingly sweet, not sugary, but like Nutrasweet. Powerful and palate-jarring. If you can push past that, you get some of that agave character, plenty of nutty notes, a bit of spice, and a finish that tastes like a candy bar. It’s long and lasting, more like a liqueur than a tequila. If any 100% agave tequila could use lime and salt to balance it out — not because it’s alcoholically heavy in the slightest, mind you — this is it. - drinkhacker.com

Saignée literally means ‘to bleed’. In winemaking parlance, it means to draw the free-run juice of a grape, off the grape skins typically prior to, or shortly after, the start of fermentation. In this case, the grapes (100% Pinot Noir) are allowed to macerate for several days before the juice is drawn off and it is this ‘soak’ that gives the colour and much of the body and flavour to the wine. This technique is now extremely rare in Champagne—it is a demanding method of vinification that requires grapes with an excellent degree of maturity. Hence most rosé (in Champagne) is made by the addition of a little red wine. This bottling is drawn entirely from what is thought to be the oldest Pinot Noir vines in Vertus, and one of the very last 100% Pinot vineyards. As with all of Larmandier’s wines it’s naturally fermented. Larmandier raises part of this cuvée in a Nomblot concrete egg and partly in stainless steel (and more recently he has been trialling amphora as well).
A fluffy mousse dissipates over a salmon pink coloured base that’s threaded by an exceptionally fine and persistent stream of bubbles. Jumping out of the glass are alluring scents of strawberries, subtle blood orange and raspberry which meld into yeast lees, baked bread and faint cashew notes. Delicious strawberry, raspberry and subtle blood orange fruits have a creamy feel over a back drop of yeast lees, bready characters and traces of sherbet. Dry refreshing finish with mouth watering acidity leading into a long creamed strawberry conclusion.

Peated to 3-8ppm and finished in French and Italian red wine casks. The result is a sultry combination of red berries, salt and smoke.

Pronounced "Ae-ree ne gray-nyuh" meaning ‘Morning Sky’ in Gaelic, this is a Duty Free only Bunnah'. A relatively small number of cases are produced every year and a significant proportion of high-quality ex-red wine cask-matured whiskies of various ages are in the mix. Spritely and concentrated, the aromas evolve with strawberry-cream sponge cake, dried berries and fruit beer. The palate confirms the provenance of the casks, at first offering cocoa and barley flavours with a saline / pepper edge, however the creamy finish is the highlight - punctuated with strawberry sponge cake and red berry notes. It's tasty stuff, with a proper ABV in a big one litre format. If the price is right, you can't lose. 46.3% Alc./Vol. Non-chill filtered.
