2022 Domaine Sylvain Cathiard Vosne-Romanee Aux Reignots Premier CruBurgundy, FRANCE$1499. 00Bottle$17988.00 DozenClosure: CorkSylvain Cathiard built a fearsome reputation through the 1990's and early 2000's for producing some of the greatest wines of Burgundy. His ability to marry fragrant and perfectly ripe grapes with expertly chosen new oak set the standard at the time. While the wines were more approachable than his peers, they also had the requisite components to age and evolve gloriously for many years. Now under the stewardship of his son Sebastien, the wines have gained even more acclaim and are equally as well built for an envious evolution in the cellar.
Other Reviews....
A discreet application of wood sets off the cool aromas of mostly red berry fruit aromas that are cut with plenty of floral and spice wisps. The sleek, delicious and vibrant flavors are even finer while offering ample minerality, all wrapped in a youthfully austere, focused and balanced finish. This is terrific and altogether lovely and very Reignots. Drink through 2034+.

Allen Meadows - BurghoundThe 2022 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Reignots bursts with aromas of raspberries, sweet spices, vanilla pod and petals. Medium-bodied, supple and fine-boned, it's especially charming and immediate this year, with a more ethereal and less structural profile than the Murgers and Orveaux tasted, respectively, before and after.

William Kelley - Wine Advocate (Jan 19, 2024)The 2022 Vosne-Romanée Aux Reignots 1er Cru has another pure and sensual bouquet of mineral-laden red fruit, very focused with seamlessly integrated oak (50% new). The palate is luscious on the entry, velvety smooth with layers of black and blueberry fruit. Sweet and candied towards the finish, yet still very complex and alluring. Utterly seductive. Drink 2027-2050.
94-96 points
Neal Martin - VinousThe Reignots offers a brilliant perfume, a little redcurrant livening up the other red berries and cherries. Starts with this pure and precise fruit then builds very attractively on the palate. A little vanilla from the oak but the fruit is more than equal to the wood tannins. 60% new wood for this cuvée. Drink from 2030-2037.

A wonderfully spicy nose that could be from nowhere other than Vosne offers up notes of mostly red berries, exotic tea, sandalwood, clove and hoisin hints. There is impressive density to the rich and seductively textured yet powerful large-scaled flavors that are supported by firm tannins on the sappy, long and impeccably well-balanced finale. This is also terrific and completely different than the Reignots. Drink through 2034+.
92-95 points
Allen Meadows - BurghoundAnother of the more large-scaled wines in the range is the 2022 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots, a medium to full-bodied, broad and fleshy effort redolent of baked plums, sweet red berries and orange zest mingled with petals, spices and creamy new oak. Built around powdery tannins, it concludes with a saline finish.
92-94 points
William Kelley - Wine Advocate (Jan 19, 2024)The 2022 Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots 1er Cru has a refined bouquet, eschewing the opulence of this vineyard for something more cerebral - a mixture of red and black fruit, violet and hints of loam. The palate is medium-bodied with a gorgeous, velvety entry. It has the depth of the En Orveaux, yet there is more body and precision on the finish. It fans out wonderfully on the aftertaste and lingers long in the mouth. Superb. Drink 2027-2048.
94-96 points
Neal Martin - VinousA clear ruby colour. The nose starts all in elegance, quite floral, fine and delicate, very few tannins, more a fine tensile strength through the middle, delicate raspberry notes, and very good length as the wine climbs up the other side of the Suchots valley. Once again the fruit is ultra-fresh with plenty of spice, floral and exotic elements adding to the appeal of the ripe, airy and layered nose. There is excellent size, weight and richness to the tautly muscular and mineral-driven broad-shouldered flavors that conclude in a hugely long, balanced and built-to-age finale. This is a very serious, compact and tightly wound wine that is indisputably going to need an extended snooze in a cool cellar. Potentially brilliant. Drink through 2037+.

Allen Meadows - BurghoundThis site is often very reserved out of barrel, yet the 2022 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Malconsorts was already quite open and expressive when I tasted it. Revealing aromas of plums, sweet berries, smoked duck and spices, it's full-bodied, ample and layered, with a rich, textural core of fruit and a broad, expansive finish.
92-94 points
William Kelley - Wine Advocate (Jan 19, 2024)The 2022 Vosne-Romanée Aux Malconsorts 1er Cru is very complex on the nose, leaning more towards black fruit this time, with crushed limestone and hints of ash and forest floor. It seems to expand in the glass. The palate is more linear and stricter than the Suchots, yet more tension and spiciness come towards the bravura finish. The second winter will lend this more weight, and it should be a stunning Malconsorts for the future. Drink 2028-2055.
95-97 points
Neal Martin - VinousA fine bright ruby purple. As always, this cuvée has an extra density over and above the other fine Vosne premiers crus. Indeed, there is so much volume of fruit here, while never becoming over opulent. Welcome back to a first-class vintage of Malconsorts! The finish is exceptionally long, with a useful thread of fine boned acidity extending it further. The tannins are completely integrated. Stunning! So fine, such precision. Drink from 2030-2040.

Cathiard's plot of Romanee Saint Vivant is the smallest of the ten current owners with their 0.1673 ha of vines planted 1919. In a good year they are able to produce only three barrels of wine, however often it's much less meaning this is one of the rarest and most coveted wines of Burgundy.
Other Reviews....
A reticent if beautifully complex nose blends notes of various spice elements with those of floral, red currant, plum and a hint of exotic tea. The sleek, intense and wonderfully textured medium weight flavors possess outstanding drive and unusually good power on the firm, youthfully austere and quite serious finish that possesses stunningly good depth and persistence. This is exceptionally stylish and classy and a wine that should age accordingly. Drink through 2037+.

Allen Meadows - BurghoundThe 2022 Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru unwinds in the glass with aromas of plums, berries, smoked duck, spices and vanilla pod, followed by a full-bodied, ample and muscular palate, its broad and fleshy core of fruit framed by powdery tannins and lively acids, concluding with a saline finish. This is a powerful wine from Cathiard that will surely benefit from its second winter in barrel.

William Kelley - Wine Advocate (Jan 19, 2024)The 2022 Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru comprises three barrels this year, two of them new from the Raymond cooperage. There is amazing transparency on the nose and stunning delineation, with riveting mineralité behind the red fruit. You could inhale this forever. The palate is medium-bodied, armed with a cashmere texture, filigree tannins and gorgeous black cherries mixed with white pepper and allspice towards the long finish. Very sensual and extraordinarily pure, this is a brilliant RSV. Drink 2028-2055.
96-98 points
Neal Martin - VinousA glowing fresh purple. The bouquet of the Romanée St-Vivant always takes more teasing out than the flamboyant Malconsorts. It is just in the intensity of the fruit in the mouth and the refinement of the finish. Less immediate than the Malconsorts, indeed with much more in reserve, but the quality of the finish shows that all will arrive in due course. Drink from 2032.

2008 Watt Whisky Glen Moray 11 Year Old Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)Speyside, Highlands, SCOTLAND$169. 99Bottle$2039.88 DozenABV: 54.6%Summer orchard fruits are often associated with Glen Moray's house style. Here they're overlaid by oloroso sherry for a delicious harmony of flavours. Muted apple and pear mingle with dried apricot and dried pineapple, laced with a splash of curacao; Bitter dark chocolate and warming alcohol rise through the aftertaste, delivering something pleasingly different from this distillery. 318 bottles were drawn from an oloroso hogshead, finished in an oloroso sherry cask for 14 months. 54.6% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.
Other reviews... The head of Whiskyfun’s Mathematics Department pointed out some discrepancy in the figures, but honestly, who cares? Colour: pale gold. Nose: oh yes, this is lovely—chestnuts and walnuts mixed with sunflower and peanut oil, followed by fresh apples and morning raisin rolls. Nothing to fault. With water: an entire truckload of fresh nuts. Mouth (neat): excellent, with a rich, pâtisserie-like fruitiness, then honeyed blood oranges with a dash of white pepper. A proper flavour carnage—and “carnage” is positive in English too, is it not? With water: now it’s all about the creams—vanilla cream, orange crème brûlée, crema catalana… Too bad “Andalusian cream” isn’t a thing unless we’re talking sherry, right? Finish: medium length, leaning towards soft pepper. A slight greenness in the aftertaste, balanced with buttery cream. Comments: superb. I hope the honourable bottlers won’t mind me saying so, but I can’t help wondering if this wouldn’t be the perfect whisky for flambéing prawns. 87 points - whiskyfun.com

2021 Wynns Coonawarra Estate John Riddoch Cabernet SauvignonCoonawarra, South Australia, AUSTRALIA$150. 00Bottle$1800.00 DozenCellar: Drink now - 15 Years (2025-2040)ABV: 13.5%Closure: StelvinOne of Coonawarra’s benchmark Cabernets from an outstanding vintage.
Renown as one of Coonawarra’s benchmark Cabernets, Wynns John Riddoch is made from parcels of the estates best fruit and is only produced in exceptional vintages.
Outstanding colour featuring an impenetrable inky black heart along with a very deep dark red black hue. Soaring out of the glass are captivating aromas of blackcurrant, liquorice and mulberry which are complimented by vanillin cedar, tobacco, subtle earth, violet and traces of bay leaf. Rich and concentrated yet refined and structured, the medium to full bodied palate is redolent in fleshy red to black currant, liquorice and mulberry fruits. Lending further complexity are spicy vanillin cedar, earth, delicate tobacco and bay leaf accents. Fine grained, sturdily built tannin framework yet quite polished in it’s feel. Marrying finesse with power it finishes very long and eloquent with a deep core of fruit.
Drink over the next 10-15 years.

16 months French oak hogsheads and barriques (31% new, the balance one to six years old) and 22 months in bottle prior to release. A cacophony of blackberries, Bing cherries and elderberries. Blackcurrant leaf, acaí and prune skin. Black coffee, vanilla pod, ash and charcoal. Acidity wisps about the palate like magic, a mesh of thread-like tannins pull and draw the focus. A hint of dark chocolate bitters; the wine finishes perky with echoing tunes of granite. It's just so centered and chic. Pure cabernet poise. Drink by 2038.

Shanteh Wale – James Halliday’s Australian Wine CompanionThe 2021 John Riddoch Limited Release Cabernet Sauvignon is a brilliant wine. It is achingly intense yet is defined by its levity, which is not a common attribute in Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine expounds the virtues of the red gravel in which the fruit was grown, via its iodine and crushed shells, cassis and blood, sweet marrow and tobacco. It tastes so clearly of the place, which is a wonderful thing. The back palate swells with flavor, framed by the earth and the attuned oak. This is a tribute to the earth, an ode to it. Plentiful tannins bob along on the current of fruit. This will cellar interminably. It's up there in both quality and feel with the 2010, or so I think. 13.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap. Drink 2024-2051.

Erin Larkin – Robert Parker’s The Wine AdvocateOne of the best vintages in Coonawarra for many years. Little wonder this release of the John Riddoch is one of the best since the initial release from the 1982 vintage. Aromas of violets and red berry with a slightly cherry glaze character adding further intrigue. The palate is medium weight and refined but with tremendous power and persistence. A combination of hogsheads and barriques has been used to deliver the perfect level of oak. One of the best of these I can recall. Drink 2024-2054.

Ray Jordan – WinePilot.comThis 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Wynns John Riddoch is stylish and built for the long haul. It takes a couple of days to show its true colors. It radiates with blackcurrant, gravel and dried mint aromas, with a dusting of earth all wrapped up in a gentle blanket of French oak. Composed and super refined, the wine is underpinned by a line of seductive yet firm tannins with killer length and balance to finish. It is already very approachable but with serious staying power. Watt Whisky Ben & Sherry 6 Year Old Cask Strength Blended Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)SCOTLAND$119. 99Bottle$1439.88 DozenABV: 57.1%This curious blend of 50% Benrinnes and 50% Glasgow single malts has a dry, nutty sherry influence of a kind rarely encountered nowadays; Vaguely sulphury notes, like pencil eraser or matchbox are followed in a warm, grassy profile including traces of walnuts, ginger biscuits and sulphur. Tasted blind you might pick it as young Auchroisk. A somewhat old fashioned composition that nevertheless grows on you. 282 bottles from a butt. 57.1% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.
Notes from the bottlers... Rich Sherry, dark cherries, soft black pepper, liquorice and marmalade.
Other reviews... This hippy whisky combines fifty percent Benrinnes and fifty percent Glasgow Dist. Let’s try to avoid overly frosty commentary. Colour: Nose: an unusual start, quite fermentary, with notes of cooked vegetables, courgettes, and even Brussels sprouts. Then comes saltpetre, soot, cherry stalks (in herbal tea), and roasted aubergines. It’s very polarising, as they say. With water: still those cooked vegetables, but now joined by honey and slightly "evolved" dried figs. Mouth (neat): more sherry-driven, but spicy and almost fizzy. Think chilli-infused Schweppes, kirsch straight off the still, pink grapefruits, and braised cabbage. With water: it settles down, revealing walnuts, baked apples, marmalade, tobacco, honey, and sweet peppers. Finish: similar, and it lingers for a good while, with a peppery aftertaste. Comments: don’t be fooled—my notes may seem odd, but this little UFO is rather charming, taking you on a journey from Brussels sprouts to meadow honey. Almost a thriller. 86 points - whiskyfun.com

2022 Domaine Leflaive Bienvenues-Batard-Montrachet Grand CruBurgundy, FRANCE$2999. 00Bottle$35988.00 DozenClosure: CorkOther Reviews....
As is often the case, the aromatic profiles of the Pucelles and the BBM are quite similar with the slight exception that the latter is even more floral in character. On the palate though there is more volume, richness and concentration with the medium-bodied flavors displaying impressive power as well as an abundance of sappy dry extract that buffers the notably firm acid spine supporting the hugely long, balanced and very classy finale. This too is terrific and a wine that should age gracefully for 20+ years. Drink through 2034+.

Allen Meadows - BurghoundUnwinding in the glass with notes of pear, white flowers, hazelnuts and spices, Leflaive's 2022 Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru is medium to full-bodied, satiny and seamless, with a cool, harmonious, integrated profile and a long, mouthwatering finish. There's a touch more density here than in the Pucelles, but the two are quite similar in style this year. Drink 2027-2050.

William Kelley - Robert Parker's Wine AdvocateThe 2022 Bienvenue-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru has a captivating sea cave and oyster shell-scented nose that is so different from the Puligny Premier Crus. The palate is slightly reductive but in a positive way, imparting a light bitterness and tension. There's tremendous weight on the finish, but it retains linearity and focus. Neal Martin - VinousPale lemon yellow. An idea of velvet on the nose, a puree of fresh apples, a real concentration of pure white fruit on the palate with a rinse of lemon. 2022 Domaine Comte Georges de Vogue Musigny Vieilles Vignes Grand CruBurgundy, FRANCE$2199. 00Bottle$26388.00 DozenABV: 13.5%Closure: CorkOther reviews....
This is aromatically quite similar to the 1er except that it is notably more restrained and requires considerable swirling to coax the nose to reveal its nuances. On the palate though there is noticeably more size, weight and mid-palate density thanks to the abundant sap that imparts a highly seductive mouthfeel while also buffering the firmer, though just as fine, tannic structure shaping the hugely long, youthfully austere and decidedly powerful finish that is akin to rolling tiny rocks around the mouth. This is also positively brilliant with the development potential to match. Drink through 2037+.
94-97 points
Allen Meadows - BurghoundThe 2022 Musigny Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru is very attractive, bursting with aromas of cherries, raspberries, blood orange, rose petals and vine smoke. Full-bodied, rich and concentrated, it's layered and fleshy, with a deep and seamless core of fruit that conceals powdery structuring tannins, concluding with a broad, perfumed finish. If this fulfills all its promise in bottle, it may make my score look conservative.
94-96 points
William Kelley - Wine Advocate (Jan 19, 2024)As mentioned in the introduction, there are seven separate parcellaire cuvées of Musigny which will be blended. We tried four of them, representing different sectors. Les Petits Musigny (north): An even purple, succulent red fruit. Fresh raspberry and strawberry, touch of liquorice, very even, fair acidity, soft tannins. Les 13 ouvrees: Stonier than north Musigny. A touch darker in colour and definitely a richer bouquet, more headily floral. More clearly the weight of Musigny, but also shows as quite a bit riper. Grand Musigny Haut: A glowing mid purple. A lovely tensile strength, not so evidently ripe, but correctly so, red to dark red in fruit. Good acidity, and fairly complete. Grand Musigny Bas: Glowing purple perhaps fractionally deeper than the upper part. The nose is less extrovert but clearly has superb class and a poised density. The sense of completeness of GM Haut but noticeably more intense through the mid palate. The fruit is a fraction riper, perfectly so, with a few suggestions of dark raspberry in the fruit. Very persistent indeed and a freshness to the finish, enough to make a major wine. I don’t feel it correct to award five stars until I have seen the full blended wine, preferably in bottle, but I certainly don’t rule that out. Drink from 2035-2050.

Jasper Morris MW - Inside BurgundyA tasting of each of the seven 2022 Musigny VV sub-sections and an approximate blend hint at a wine of almost voluptuous sensuality, with expressive mulberry and pomegranate fruit and hints of earth, smoke and liquorice that waft from the glass. William Kelley - Wine Advocate (Jan 19, 2024)The 2022 Meursault Les Perrières 1er Cru has a crisp, minerally bouquet with a clever reduction, just lending a bit of tension and bite. Neal Martin - VinousFrom the two remaining plots of Perrières after one has been repositioned (see under Puligny Chalumeaux). Attractive fresh fruit on the nose and then the weight of the appellation comes up. Some ripe apples, but then a broader basket of slightly more exotic fruit, that has not been allowed to ripen too far. A fine balanced whole with the power to develop. Drink from 2032-2040.

Jasper Morris MW - Inside BurgundyThe notes of lemon zest, aromas of apricot and white flowers, and the salty mineral edge give complexity to this beautiful expression of Perrières. The grapes are from two parcels – one in Dessus, on the border with Puligny, the other in Dessous, touching the Clos des Perrières. Distinctly cool and restrained aromas of Granny Smith apple, spice and plenty of citrus elements are framed in just enough wood influence to mention. There is almost painful intensity to the larger-bodied flavors that display a taut muscularity and plenty of minerality on the very dry, youthfully austere and impressively long finish. This is presently an impenetrable block that needs more complexity but the Bouchard CC is a wine that ages effortlessly and thus should have no trouble developing more depth over time. William Kelley - Wine Advocate (Jan 19, 2024)The 2022 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru has a taut and precise nose - quite a "cool" bouquet with apple blossom and hints of peach skin. Neal Martin - VinousThe Bouchard holding in Le Corton is made up of white marl on top of limestone slabs, and protected by the forest from the evening sun. Pale lemon and lime. A significant saline character too, behind. Drink from 2030-2038.

Jasper Morris MW - Inside BurgundyThe Bouchard Corton Charlemagne reflects the vintage in an impressive way—it is a powerful wine, impressively substantial, long and almost fat in the mouth. Yet there is also an elegance and finesse to the wine that brings it into dynamic equilibrium, with aromas of ripe apple, apricot and hazelnuts and accents of hawthorn and hay. The grapes come from the domaine's superb four-hectare holding at the top of the slope, where recent studies with Françoise Vannier confirm 50 – 60 cm of yellow marl and limestone pebbles above the bedrock, explaining the delightful fresh acidity even in a warm year, such as 2022. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins and gentle grip, slightly powdery in texture. The attractive, mocha-tinged finish lingers in the mouth. This will drink very well after 5-7 years. Drink 2026-2046.
91-93 points
Neal Martin - VinousMore crimson than purple, with notably more presence than the other Beaunes. A range of fruits finishing with some black cherry after the dark red berries, a heightened intensity of fruit, with an excellent balance between tannin and acidity, and notable length. Not racked but has retained purity. Drink from 2030-2038.

Jasper Morris MW - Inside BurgundyThe 2022 Baby Jesus is a wine of gorgeous intensity, with alluringly ripe aromas of blackberry and plum with notes of peony and spice. The forward fruits continue on the palate as intensely sweet and silky, with a density and grip that are only apparent with time. The grapes are from nearly four hectares of vines, although only the oldest vines and most concentrated fruit are used for this bottling, with some declassified into Beaune du Château. This wine will open in five to seven years and should easily drink for 30 more after the harvest. Drink 2027-2055.

2022 Domaine Bouchard Pere et Fils Volnay Caillerets Ancienne Cuvee Carnot Premier CruBurgundy, FRANCE$270. 00Bottle$3240.00 DozenABV: 13.5%Closure: CorkDomaine Bouchard Père et Fils is one of the most respected names in Burgundy, yet despite their renown, it seems the market has not yet fully appreciated just how good the wines currently being produced are. They are the largest owner of Grand Cru and Premier Cru vineyards in Burgundy, this includes prized plots such as Montrachet, Chevalier Montrachet, Chambertin, Bonnes Mares, and Meursault Perrieres.
Founded in 1731, the subsequent nine generations of the Bouchard family has amassed an impressive 130ha of vineyards, including nearly 100 separate climats. It's perhaps this large size, contrasting the current trend for tiny producers with a cult following that has meant Bouchard are not front and centre in the minds of many Burgundy drinkers. A true shame as Bouchard are making some of the best wines in their history.
Other reviews....
Here too there is a liqueur-like quality to the black cherry aromas that are nuanced by floral and spice hints. The caressing yet intense and beautifully detailed middleweight flavors brim with both minerality and dry extract that carry over to the dusty, moderately austere and affirmatively built-to-age finish. This is one exceptionally classy wine, indeed the mouthfeel is pure silk. Buy it. Drink through 2034+.

Allen Meadows - BurghoundThe 2022 Volnay 1er Cru Les Caillerets Ancienne Cuvée Carnot is showing especially well, bursting with aromas of dark berries and cherries mingled with spices, rose petals and smoke. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and concentrated, it's pure and ethereal, with lively acids, powdery tannins and a long, saline finish.

William Kelley - Wine Advocate (Jan 19, 2024)The 2022 Volnay Les Caillerets Ancienne Cuvée Carnot 1er Cru has a nicely detailed bouquet with black cherries, raspberry coulis, wild mint and a touch of dark chocolate emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins and modest weight, very nicely balanced with a smooth, coca-tinged finish. It will need 4-5 years to absorb the 30% new oak. Drink 2025-2038.
90-92 points
Neal Martin - VinousA small yield in 2022, making it hard to judge the picking date. A rich deep purple in the centre. The oak adds a sheen to the nose. There is vigour to this albeit with a slightly riper fruit profile, but the structure is balanced very well by a fresher limestone feel. Drink from 2029-2036.
91-93 points
Jasper Morris MW - Inside BurgundyThe parcel of Volnay Caillerets was the first Pinot picked in 2022 due to the thin soils and superficial nature of the limestone. The wine has an alluring aroma of blackberry and mulberry fruit with hints of boxwood, bay leaf, and peonies. The texture is supple and velvety, with rewarding concentration and density. The team at Bouchard sorts rigorously for 'figuée', grapes shrivelled by sunburn; technical director Frédéric Weber says success depends on 'keeping it crunchy'. This wine should open soon after release and is suited to mid-term cellaring, although a 1962 from this vineyard tasted this year was still fresh. Drink 2025-2050.

2020 Syrahmi Introspect Shiraz - Last StocksHeathcote, Victoria, AUSTRALIA$59. 99Bottle$719.88 DozenABV: 13.8%Closure: StelvinThe name Syrahmi combines "Syrah," the French word for Shiraz, and "Ami," meaning friend, symbolizing a "friendly Shiraz." Founded in 2004 by former chef Adam Foster, Syrahmi began with a small batch of fruit from Heathcote. Each year, fruit is carefully sourced from different vineyards in the Heathcote region, with the wines named uniquely to reflect each vintage.
Sourced from Carl Brown’s certified organic vineyard in Colbinabbin, this wine is made with 90% whole bunch fruit and fermented with wild yeast in a 4000L concrete vat. Gentle hand and foot plunging was followed by malolactic fermentation and 20 months of maturation in a 2800L used French oak foudre. Bottled unfined and unfiltered, it spent two years in bottle before release.

Certified organic, 90% whole bunch, aged in 2800L foudres. The whole-bunch percentage is obviously high, but the fruit has taken it up beautifully; there's nothing hard, green or jangly here. This is awash with sweet, juicy, red-berried fruit, the complements coming in the form of roasted nut, smoked wood and game characters. In short, it puts on quite a show. Drink 2024 - 2032.

Amrut Bagheera Sherry Cask Finish Single Malt Indian Whisky (500ml)Bangalore, INDIA$79. 99Bottle$959.88 DozenABV: 46%This 99% unpeated, NAS Amrut represents a new value in Indian single malt. At first taste, you could mistake it for Speyside Scotch. Light sherry features on the cocoa-dusted nose, followed by well-composed, medium-bodied flavours conjuring cinnamon and budding fruitiness (apricots and peaches); The finish dwindles, winding up leathery, delicate and slightly short. 'Bagheera' is Indian for black panther, and the animal is featured gliding across the label. 46% Alc./Vol.
Other reviews... With the magnificent Mysore Palace on its label, and a nose of garam masala, overripe banana, coffee bean, hazelnut, and prune juice, this is definitely an Amrut to experience. Flavors ebb and flow through cereal notes, Agen prunes, raisins, vanilla essence, dried fruits, stewed apple, and dark autumnal fruits, all underpinned by glittering spicy base notes. It finishes with cola-flavored candy, dwindling sweetness, and encroaching leathery notes. (Editors' Choice) 91 points - whiskyadvocate.com
...I find it funny that they would have felt the need to tell you that this was made out of 99% unpeated and 1% peated malted barley. We do know that peat tends to dominate, even when in small proportions, but 1%? Or is this an homeopathic peater? Ha-ha, yet a new concept! Colour: gold. Nose: a few sulphury touches at first (from some sherry wood, not form those 1% I'm sure… or wait, am I wrong, Amrut?) then some mentholated raisins and salted fudge, bicycle inner tube, the old unused coal pit in the basement, ye auld fireplace... Mouth: I like it ten times better on the palate. And guess what, the peat does feel. Truffle and smoke, salted lemon marmalade, sweet Thai soup (coconut, coriander, pepper, bouillons…) Finish: long, still a little 'unusual', I would suppose we'll need a little time to get accustomed to this new homeopathic style, but there sure is a thing here. Bottom line, 1% feels a lot! Comments: I'm glad I tried this one. It reminds of Miles, remember, if you do a wee mistake, repeat it many times and everybody will applaud and believe you did it on purpose (loosely reported, of course he said it better). 84 points - whiskyfun.com

Rusty Barrel Gold Rum (700ml)Caribbean,$84. 99Bottle$1019.88 DozenABV: 40%An aged fusion of 5 & 8-year-old Caribbean gold rums developed in collaboration with an international Master Distiller. Ripe fruit cake and caney notes check the creeping sugars, making the finish almost refreshing. Says Anthony Wills, Kilchoman's Founder, “The 13th Edition is the first release since 2019 where I have opted for solely bourbon barrels... Deep, ruddy red to umber-brown in colour with earthy, bitter herbal notes pitched against ripe plums, riper red berries and walnuts (the latter lingering at the finish which takes a cue from bitters), Noix de la Saint Jean makes a moreish drinking experience on its own, but you can also pair it with chocolate, nut-based desserts and cheeses such as Roquefort, Blues, Stilton and Fourme d'Ambert. 15% Alc./Vol. Refrigerate after opening.
Notes from the importers.... Nose: On the nose, the dominant aroma is walnuts completed by a more spicy note of spice bread and dried fruit. Palate: On the palate, the aromas of this aperitif are marked by the walnut and nut stain subtly flattered by a spicy note of cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves. Decanter Wine Awards 2024 - Kweichow Flying Fairy Moutai (500ml) 43%CHINA$299. 00Bottle$3588.00 DozenABV: 43%
President Nixon famously enjoyed Moutai during his visit to China where it's considered the 'national liquor’. Made from red sorghum grain grown in Guizhou (Kweichou) Province, the fermented mash is distilled seven times. Batches are kept separate then matured for years in earthenware jars which allow the alcohol to ‘breathe’. Finally, the distillates are subject to an elaborate vatting process, supervised by a Master Blender to achieve the spirit's unique aroma and flavour.
Often served at state banquets and presented as a diplomatic gift, Moutai's floral / yeasty / grainy flavour has also been compared to soy sauce, while its popularity is such that limited editions have become highly collectable. According to a report by Fortune Magazine, the spirit's "fiery flavour and potential to appreciate in price is driving blistering demand. That in turn has pushed its market value to more than $145 billion, well past British whisky giant Diageo."
This edition is known more commonly as the ‘original’ Moutai, characterized by its distinct flavour and mellow yet pleasant after-taste. The "Flying Fairy" was awarded the honourable title of National Liquor, the highest accolade for any wine or spirit in China. 43% Alc./Vol.

2023 Cobaw Ridge Original Block Pinot NoirMacedon Ranges, Victoria, AUSTRALIAReduced from $105.00$99. 99Bottle$1199.88 DozenABV: 12%Closure: Diam CorkSituated 610 meters above sea level and overseeing Central Victoria, the Cobaw Ridge vines thrive in the granite-rich mountain soil, working hard to produce well-balanced grapes. This unique site's challenges, combined with the Cooper's dedication to sustainable and natural practices, result in wines that truly reflect their origin and time. No additives, fining, filtration, or stabilization are applied, except for minimal sulphites before bottling.
Named after the original Pinot Noir vines planted in 1995 on the property, this wine is crafted from clones 114, 115, and MV6. The Original naming refers to the 1995 plantings that first went in the ground at Cobaw Ridge but also aptly describes the Cooper family behind the vines.
As with many great wines, the more time spent with it, the more the journey is cinematic, which is particularly apt here. On opening, a seamless, svelte and lighter weight red with dark cherry, caraway seed, Aussie bush elements and white pepper dusted in. The more time open, the more big swirls, the build of savoury elements in hazelnut, garam masala spice, spearmint and amaro-like qualities. The texture opened up somewhat too, more expansive, a spread in the palate on guiding trails of gossamer. There are wines that deliver strict bounds of Olympic performance, precise and at the apex, and then those that build as an expressive performance. The latter here, and we’re better for it. Drink 2024 - 2033.

2023 Cobaw Ridge High Density Pinot NoirMacedon Ranges, Victoria, AUSTRALIAReduced from $140.00$135. 00Bottle$1620.00 DozenABV: 12.4%Closure: Diam CorkSituated 610 meters above sea level and overseeing Central Victoria, the Cobaw Ridge vines thrive in the granite-rich mountain soil, working hard to produce well-balanced grapes. This unique site's challenges, combined with the Cooper's dedication to sustainable and natural practices, result in wines that truly reflect their origin and time. No additives, fining, filtration, or stabilization are applied, except for minimal sulphites before bottling.
This is the first standalone release from a vineyard planted in 2011, with a density of just under 7000 vines per hectare. It comprises various clones, including 777, Q390-02, Pommard, Able, 115, and MV6. In this vintage, 5% whole bunch and 35% new oak were used. It offers a richer expression compared to the 'Original Black,' emphasizing dark fruits like cherry and plum. The wine has a remarkable density complemented by a touch of spice and savory details. The palate showcases a delicate core with a smooth flow of fruits.

High fidelity, high density, high tension. All happening.
It’s a wine on the edge, and for personal preferences, that’s mostly where I want my wine to be. It keeps you alert, it keeps you seeking out more information. This wine is imbued with fine, elegant pinosity and shows off refined tannin profile and a sense of complexing minerality. The rub is that its a marginal site, a cool place that delivers a nervous freshness at times, and with that mint, Aussie bush/alpine elements that could irk some who approach this wine. I bet most who do know what they’re in for, know the quality potential inherent, and look for the distinct personality even in the more edgier years. Amongst all this, dark cherry, pitch perfect in freshness and bite, some sweet spice too. Just shy of medium weight. Very compelling. Drink 2024 - 2035.

Bushmills 25 Year Old Single Malt Irish Whiskey (700ml)County Antrim, IRELAND$1699. 00Bottle$20388.00 DozenABV: 46%An impressively old Bushmills that spent four years in bourbon and sherry casks before slumbering in an x-Port cask for twenty one years. Bottled at 46% without chill filtration, it will be Irish at its most decadent.
Other reviews... Spending 21 years in a first-fill ruby port cask has imbued this superb whiskey with firm, plump, and intense fruit flavors with layers of raspberry, black currant fruit pastilles, blackberry jelly, and peppercorn. Bushmills and port casks are a heavenly match, and this has a warm, enveloping fruitiness on the tongue, with raspberry, plum, cranberry sauce, a surge of clove and pepper, milk chocolate, and a dry finish. 94 points - whiskyadvocate.com

Alc. 14.5% - Dutch Rules New World Dry Gin (700ml)Melbourne, Victoria, AUSTRALIA$74. 99Bottle$899.88 DozenABV: 42%
The juniper-infused spirit known as gin has the Netherlands as its spiritual home. Later, England went on to popularise its own 'London Dry', traditionally based on less than a handful of botanicals (juniper, cardamom and coriander). However, the influence of Sri Lanka, Malaysia and other spice islands isn't commonly found, even in contemporary styles. Enter Dutch Gin, founded in 2022 in the Melbourne suburb of Mitcham. Here, botanicals like lemongrass, makrut leaves, chilli, thai basil and ginger are broadening the scope of what gins can taste like. Proprietor, Danny Perera employs a wheat-based spirit which brings a nice smooth mouthfeel to each expression. Step one is to load the still with distillate, then add juniper and dried botanicals to the pot. Once out of the still, the spirits are rested for a couple of weeks to maximise the flavour before diluting to a lower ABV followed by bottling and labelling. Shaken or stirred, Dutch Rules New World Dry gin offers juniper-forward flavours with a citrusy finish for a new everyday favourite. Great in a cocktail or simply with tonic. Other botanicals include pink peppercorn, coriander seed, jasmine, macadamia, green tea, cinnamon and lavender. 42% Alc./Vol.

Alc. 14% - Dutch Rules Thai Gin (700ml)Melbourne, Victoria, AUSTRALIA$74. 99Bottle$899.88 DozenABV: 40%
Hospitality veteran, Danny Perera founded Dutch Rules Gin in 2022. Hailing from Sri Lanka, he wanted to share the influence trade routes from the Dutch East Indies and Spice Islands had on traditional European exports. This Mitcham-based distillery knows its way around a classic juniper-forward number as well as anyone. But it’s the magic that happens when they borrow flavours from South and South-East Asia that's won them a keen following; their Thai Gin, for example - a fragrant gin that is highly aromatic and alive with cardamom, coriander, lemongrass, ginger and makrut lime leaves. Add Thai basil, and just a little bit of spice, and you have one hell of a delicious gin! Perfect in a Lemongrass Collins – a refreshing dance between flavours that's all about Summer. 40% Alc./Vol.

Bushmills 30 Year Old Single Malt Irish Whiskey (700ml)County Antrim, IRELAND$3199. 00Bottle$38388.00 DozenABV: 46%With an abundance of stock to draw from, Bushmill’s claims the distinction of being the only producer in Ireland capable of annually releasing ultra-rare, high-age statement expressions like this. Originally distilled in the early 1990s, the company began experimenting in the 2000s with re-casking its single malts to enhance the distillery character, although they didn’t have a specific series in mind for these experiments, until now. The venerable 30 year old was aged for 14 years in bourbon barrels and sherry butts before finishing in first-fill Pedro Ximénez sherry casks for another 16 years. Pedro Ximénez (aka PX) is a dark sweet Sherry style that typically contributes rich dried fruit characteristics. Launched to mark the opening of the new Bushmills Causeway Distillery in 2023, this historical bottling is limited to 1500 bottles globally. 46% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered. Collectable.
Other reviews... Distilled in 1992 and spent its last 16 years of maturation in first-fill PX sherry casks which give this whiskey a nose of dried strawberries, blueberries, raisins, and chocolate-covered toffees. There’s a sticky PX mouthfeel, with prune juice, morello cherry, dried fig, peppery spice, and clove, adding more pronounced prune flesh, dried vine fruits, vanilla essence, and citrus peel notes before a soothing finish of buttered fruitcake with a spicy kick. 91 points - whiskyadvocate.com

What’s great about the Canvas wines is that they're well made with an emphasis on drinkability. This joven style is jam-packed with exuberant red fruits, cherry-berry cola, sarsaparilla and those distinct woodsy spices, not from oak – just part of the variety’s DNA. It’s refreshing and vibrant, and the tannins are quite precise and a little textural. Loads of fun. Drink by 2028.

A heady waft of ripe red berries and a freshly mown meadow framed by eucalyptus trees sets the stage for a grand red berry entrance – plush, opulent and proud. This has rich redcurrant and blackberry speaking in a loud, clear voice, with the solid fruit platform propelled by a firm acid seam. It finishes tight, aided by a cluster of fine-grained tannins, which suggests a long, fruitful life in the cellar. Drink 2026-2039.
