...Rich, multi-layered nose: vanilla, cornmeal, berries (black raspberries, wineberries), and broad-shouldered oak. Powerful, but not overproof hot in the mouth; controlled. The berries sing a high counter-melody over the corn-oak beat as the whole experience rocks along. It’s powerful, sweet, authoritative, and finishes with a reprise of it all: berries, corn, vanilla, and stronger oak. Mature, complete bourbon with a 7 year age statement, and a real sleeper in the Small Batch Collection.

Earlier bottling tasted... nose: excellent rye bite to firm and sweet nose. fruity with mature plums and over ripe banana star; palate: rye kicks off early and allows bitter and prickly, softly spiced, middle to ensure a characterful, multi-layered bourbon; finish: massively complex follow through with quite enormous and beautiful chocolate notes; comment: a chocoholic's bourbon with a bigger rye firmness. Classic Cocktail: The Mint Julep
Most likely originated in 1803, when John Davis, a traveler from Britain and a Virginia plantation tutor, defined a julep as 'a dram of spiritous liquor that has mint in it, taken by Virginians of a morning'. From there, it evolved into a putting mint and sugar into a tumbler, and then adding equal parts of peach and regular brandy. To this was added plenty of crushed ice. Traditionally, mint juleps were often served in silver or pewter cups, and held only by the bottom and top edges of the cup. This allows frost to form on the outside of the cup, which some would find a sign of gentility. Others merely find it pleasant to look at. It is well-known as the traditional beverage of the Kentucky Derby, a position it has held since 1938; during the event, more than 80,000 juleps are served at Churchill Downs.Bob Dylan described in his Theme Time Radio Hour episode #3 how to make, by his preferences, a perfect mint julep: 'First up, you take four mint sprigs, two and a half ounces of bourbon. I'd put three. A table spoon of powder sugar, and a table spoon of water. You put the mint leaves, powder sugar and water in a Collins glass. You fill the glass with shaved, or crushed ice, and then add bourbon. Top that off with more ice. And...I'd like to garnish that with a mint sprig. Serve it wih a straw. Two or three of those, and anything sounds good.'

Rich and full yet structured, the palate is awash with blackcurrant, mulberry and choc mint flavours which impart a plush mid palate feel. Backed by firm yet integrated tannins, vanillin cedar, subtle earthy tobacco and spice characters echo across the back half. Excellent concentration and depth concluding long and sturdy.

Deep midnight black colour with a dark red hue. Elevated dark plum and liquorice aromas mix with gently smoked vanillin cedar, earthy fennel and peppered dried herb notes. Rich, juicy and fleshy textured, the mid weighted palate is flooded with pepper infused dark plum and liquorice fruits which meld into a spicy vanillin cedar, scorched earth and fennel back drop. Polished fine grained yet structured tannins. Concludes long, elegant and peppery with an abundance of succulent fruit.

This release is on song. Black pepper and peppercorn characters float through cherry and plum fruit flavour. It's lively, it has enough depth, it finishes well and it charms throughout. The fine-grained, savoury aspect of the tannin here is of particular note. If you like the Great Western style, you can buy this with confidence. Drink by 2033.

Campbell Mattinson – James Halliday’s Australian Wine CompanionThis is good. A cooler climatic expression that remains distinctly Australian, rather than playing the reductive hand of an ersatz Rhone. An exceptional nose of mace, clove, blue fruits, olive and briar, backed by a wave of beef bouillon and iodine-umami warmth. The tannins, a clatter across the middle, with a bow of dutiful acidity drawn to just the right degree of tension. Some scrubby menthol dries the finish ever so slightly. This said, this is a delicious wine of immense personality and soul. Drink or hold.

Lusty scents of dark plum, liquorice and blackberry sail from the glass complimented by some vanillin oak, dark chocolate and subtle spicy earth notes. Rich, concentrated and powerful, the mouth filling palate carries a plush texture with dark plum, liquorice, dark chocolate and blackberry flavours plentiful in their volume. Vanillin cedar, light earth and spice characters lie underneath. Long exuberant cream tinged finish.

Deep colour with a trace of purple in the meniscus, the bouquet sweetly spicy and blackberry scented, with a lift of pepper-spice and fresh herbs. In the mouth it's full and rich, again discreetly spicy, with a modest level of sweetness which leaves the mouth refreshed. Long aftertaste, super satisfying and delicious. The value is amazing. A frothy white mousse holds well over a salmon pink coloured base that has a very fine and persistent bead flowing through it. Streaming out of the glass are delightful aromas of peach and strawberry which are followed by hints of brioche, yeast lees and ginger. Racy pear, strawberry and yeast lees flavours meld into subtle baked bread and mineral characters. The satiny textured mid palate counterpointed by crisp nervy acidity on the finish which lends a vividly refreshing effect to the long aftertaste.

The NV Champagne Brut Rose is an attractive pale salmon hue, with a fresh perfume of wild strawberry, ripe peach, white and red flowers, a hint of tropical fruit, and grapefruit. The palate is rounded, with fruit up front and through the mid-palate, and it has a silky and fresh lift. There is a wonderful ease and drinkability to this wine, which delivers balance and finesse. 2021 Bleasdale Frank Potts Cabernet BlendLanghorne Creek, South Australia, AUSTRALIA$26. 99Bottle$323.88 DozenCellar: Drink now - 10 Years (2023-2033)ABV: 13.5%Closure: StelvinThe founder, the highly inventive, industrious and resourceful Frank Potts (1815 - 1890), to whom this wine is dedicated, was a 19th century genius, and a pioneer who has been described as being “made of the right stuff and well worthy of the grand old land that gave him birth.” He arrived in Australia as a 21 year old, having set sail from Plymouth England, and landing late in 1836. By the 1860’s, he had planted the original 30 acres of vineyard on the banks of the Bremmer Creek. Potts was highly admired - “One meets with extraordinary characters through life, but I doubt whether his equal could be found. In appearance a stranger would take him to be a poor labourer, with a thin, spare figure and long unkempt hair and invariably wearing his shirt sleeves tucked up. Although a most uncouth-looking person, and yet this man is a perfect genius! There is not a single thing mechanical or otherwise undertaken by him which he does not succeed in...” So remarked Inspector Tolmer, who was later to become Commissioner of Police, South Australia. Frank was one of the first to recognise the benefits of red gum. After building several houses for himself, he made tools and a bullock dray to cut down and haul these massive timbers in order to construct a gigantic twin wine press and several enormous wine vats. He also created the irrigation system that's still in place today. What little spare time he might have had was spent building a piano and various race winning yachts!

Dense midnight black colour with a deep dark red hue. Sailing out of the glass are delightful red to black currant and red plum scents laced with violets and bay leaf. Also evident are dusty cedar, faint black olive and spicy tobacco notes. Showing wonderful finesse are rich red to dark currant, red plum and mulberry fruits which caress the mid weighted palate with a supple feel. Tobacco, dusty earth and infusions of bay leaf lurk underneath. Polished, seamlessly integrated tannins with a long, refined conclusion. Winner of 3 trophies.

A plush, richly flavoured sparkling Shiraz.
A frothy purple tinge mousse shows good hold over a black dark coloured base wine that’s finely threaded by a nibble stream of tiny bubbles. Lifted blackberry, dark chocolate and liquorice scents combine with vanilla, light toast and traces of earth. Rich, full and satiny, the palate is awash with blackberry and liquorice fruits which create a luscious textural feel. Vanillin oak, subtle dark chocolate and earth elements also chime in. Excellent depth and concentration with a long succulent aftertaste. A great match for the Christmas Turkey.

The concept is to offer high quality sherries under a separate brand in markets where Lustau is already represented. Yet given the exceptional standard set by the Cuesta PX, one has to wonder whether they've shot themselves in the foot. Aged for a minimum of ten years, this superb solera is produced from sun dried Pedro Ximenez grapes.
A seriously good example of PX and an absolute steal at this direct import price.
Pours a viscous sienna brown colour with a deep green olive tinged hue. Potent scents of raisins, honey and Christmas cake engulfs the nostrils with hints of toffee, marmalade and walnut also present. Exceptionally concentrated and rich, a thick luscious dollop of raisin, honey and Christmas cake like flavours are draped across the palate with notions of marmalade, toffee and subtle dried nuts the back drop. Warm, mellow spirit with an oil like consistency to the mouthfeel. Long sweet, textured aftertaste. An ideal match with vanilla ice cream and Christmas pudding.

The richness of the nose is reflected in the mouth with concentrated flavours of baked bread, yeast lees and citrus sitting over dried honey, brioche and roast nut like elements. Oily, creamy like textural feel finishing dry with refreshing acidity. Excellent power with a long oily baked bread, yeast lees, cashew, dried honey and roasted almond aftertaste. A rich, creamy Blanc de Blancs Champagne.

Pours with a fine satiny mousse which sits over a pale straw to straw coloured base that has gold tinged edges and a fine, energetic bead flowing through it. Heady aromatics of baked bread, oily toast like characters and yeast lees waft through the nostrils, seamlessly integrating with notions of brioche, subtle honeyed almond and citrus notes. Rich, voluminous and full across the palate yet remarkably fresh and energetic, mouth filling flavours of pear, baked bread and oily toast like elements are shaped by vivid acidity. Flashes of citrus, cashew and chalky mineral accents linger across the back half. Concludes long, expansive and satiny with a buttered toast element to the finish.

Bollinger's 2015 Brut Grand Année is an intriguing wine in that is clearly reflects the decision to pick on the later side in order to avoid vegetal notes derived from the mismatch of alcoholic and phenolic ripeness. "Balance was hard to achieve in 2015," Chef de Cave Denis Bunner notes. "At 10% in sugar, the fruit was simply not ripe. We had to wait to reach the optimal window of ripeness." Bunner also opted to increase the Chardonnay, so the blend is 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay, as opposed to the more typical 70/30 blend, with more Verzenay than Aÿ in the Pinots. Dried citrus peel, sage, menthol, sage, tangerine peel and spice build with some coaxing. Light tropical overtones develop with aeration. There's real density and textural richness here. This will be a fascinating vintage to follow. Stylistically, it is the complete opposite from the much more linear 2014 that precedes it. Dosage is 8 grams per liter.

The wine has turned out beautifully, exhibiting a more muscular, old-school Bollinger profile in contrast to the unusually racy, fine-boned 2014 that preceded it. JamesSuckling.comA forward vintage for La Grande Année, with warmth evident in its roasted orange, Comice pear and Mirabelle plum, all polished with a sense of savoury maturity that is very Bollinger at heart. There’s a little more oxygen influence seemingly at play than in the 2014, with brine, nuts and a little dried leaf character already taking this far beyond fruit. The food-friendly chewiness of 2015 is there, but the mousse is supple and the Chardonnay brings the wine to a close with a fine, cooked lemon snap. This will start to show its best integration from 2025 onwards, although it is open for business now. 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay from the Montagne de Reims, Grande Vallée de la Marne and Côte des Blancs, all fermented in small oak barrels and disgorged in May 2023 after seven years on lees. Drink 2025 - 2034.

Each block has a different aspect, and soils range from deep sand with ironstone rocks to clay over limestone. The Shiraz vines are some of the oldest on the property, reaching 70 years in some blocks. Whole bunch and destemmed fruit is used, and the juice spends varying times on skins, depending on the block. The wine sees only seasoned oak, usually for a period of around 10 months.
A beautifully balanced, gorgeously shaped, power packed McLaren Vale Shiraz.
Dense midnight black heart with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Captivating the olfactory senses are intense spicy dark plum, liquorice, blackberry and blueberry scents gently infused with clove, fennel, smoked meats, vanillin cedar and blackpepper. Rich, opulent and concentrated the palate is awash with succulent dark plum, liquorice, blackberry and blueberry fruits. Polished yet sturdy tannin structure with fresh acidity brilliantly counterpointing the lavish layers of fruit. Mainly from the sandy patches of the Bondar home Rayner vineyard from the top of the hill, with a small portion from lower down on clay and limestone. The value here has always been super keen. That’s as true as ever with this iteration from a cool year, typically lifted and fragrant but also with some serious import. A tick up from mid-weight, this is spicy and peppered ferruginous minerality, along with blackberry, dark cherries, tapenade, violet, cassia, bay, coffee bean and salted licorice. Red berries swell up on the palate, with a thoughtfully woven skein of tannins underwriting its class. Excellent. Drink by 2024.

Other reviews... Come on, really, an Aston Martin at 40% vol.? That's neither a straight-6 nor a V12, it's more a Cygnet (remember Google is supposed to be your friend). It's still advertised as being 'Dark & Intense', let's check that… Colour: golden amber. Nose: some walnut wine at first, plus horse saddle and old leather jacket, tamarind jam, marmalade, a little spent engine oil (and voilà), then ras-el-hanout and a little ginger tonic. Blood oranges. This rather leathery smoke works well I have to say, even at 40% vol. There's also the obligatory lapsang souchong and cocoa. Mouth: nice salty arrival, with lots and lots of walnuts and a cup of oversteeped lapsang souchong. Some grapefruit then, chicken bouillon, orange zests dipped into chocolate (orangettes), smoked oysters… All nice, the problem is that it would tend to nosedive after ten seconds, and that's strictly because of the minimal strength. An Aston Martin with an empty petrol tank (which is not an unseen situation). Finish: pretty short, what a pity. Some toffee. Comments: I'm absolutely sure that even at 43% vol. this would have been a winner. One solution though, find a young indie Bowie at 50-60% vol. and pour a few drops into this one. This is the duty free version of Bowmore's 18 year old classic and comes with a heavier sherry imprint due to maturation in x Oloroso and x Pedro Ximenez casks. It shows in the richer colour. Not long after it was launched in the first half of 2017, it became the distillery’s darling, picking up a double gold for its combination of ripe fruit, dark chocolate and Islay smoke at the 2019 San Francisco Spirits Competition. That's no mean feat, given that there were more than 3000 entries (the largest number in the competition's history), all blind tasted in a controlled environment. A majority almost certainly would have been whisky. David Turner, Manager at Bowmore Distillery acknowledged that the accolade was “...one of the top awards for the industry" , adding that "it's an honour to have picked up so many medals across our range. Travel retail is a major market for Bowmore, testament to the high esteem that the distillery is held in across the globe."
Of the plentiful customer reviews posted on global retailer's sites, many now seem to preference this bottling over the general release 18 year old (selling for upwards of $180 in Australia). Put it all together and it looks like a bargain. If you revel in the richness and maritime complexity that these sherry-peat hybrids express so eloquently, this should tick almost every box. Firm, powerful and impressive. There's been a resurgence in varietal cabernet franc wines of late, and this is an excellent example of why. Blackcurrant, cocoa and eucalyptus flavours feel both rock solid and bold in the mouth (in a positive way), leading to a dry, resounding finish. You have to enjoy tannin to go for this because there's plenty of it here, but in that context, it's very good. Drink by 2033.

The long time Sunshine Coast residents made many visits to the Barossa Valley over the years and fell in love with the wines so much so that they purchased the historic Tanunda Cellars bottle shop in the late 1990’s. Trevor also became involved in wholesale and retail sales of Barossa wines in Queensland. With a farming background in avocado and persimmon Trevor decided to combine this with his experience and knowledge of the wine industry and purchased a vineyard to produce his own wine. The property, a working vineyard for well over a century boasts what is believed to be some of the oldest Riesling vines in Australia - planted back in 1896. The Shiraz vines planted in in the 1930’s and 1950’s have previously supplied fruit that has gone into making Yalumba’s flagship Octavius Shiraz.
Resistance will prove futile to this plush, seductively rich and complex Eden Valley Shiraz.
The Zip Line Shiraz fruit comes from a mixture of vines planted in 1927, the mid 1980’s and some younger vines planted in 2008. Dense inky black heart with a deep dark red black hue. Captivating the olfactory senses are dark plum, liquorice and fennel aromas which are complimented by vanillin cedar, dried herb, hints of mocha and spice. Rich, concentrated and silky textured the medium to full bodied palate is saturated with cascading waves of dark plum and liquorice fruit. Notions of vanillin cedar, fennel and peppered dried herbs lend further interest. Boasting outstanding power, its plush and opulent, has cashmere like tannins and finishes long, sleek and lavish.

Brilliant pale straw colour with a greenish glimmer to the edges and a watery hue. Flashy white peach, pear and dried honey scents sail through the nostrils trailed by some cashew, biscuity nougat and spice notes. Generously fleshed white peach, nectarine and dried honey flavours are delivered with ample concentration and textural volume. Layered across the back half are biscuity nougat, citrus and delicate spicy cashew elements. Good underlying freshness finishing long and richly fruited with a refined creaminess to it’s feel.

Heady dark raspberry, liquorice and dark plum aromas fill the nostrils with some earthy dark chocolate and vanillin spice notes also chiming in. Rich, plump and concentrated, the medium to full bodied palate is swamped with dark plum, liquorice and dark raspberry fruits with some dark chocolate and earthy vanillin like characters lurking beneath. Fleshy mouth feel and polished tannins with a long spicy, deeply fruited and opulent conclusion. Great value.

Fruit is sourced from 8 rows from a single vineyard on the eastern side of the Mt Camel Range. This part of the vineyard is located half way up the hill where the red soil in less deep, which naturally reduces the yield.
Dense black as night heart with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Elevated scents of dark plum, liquorice and blackberry fill the nostrils with hints of choc mint, vanillin oak and spicy earth also evident. Rich succulent blackberry, liquorice, dark plum and dark chocolate flavours engulf the full bodied palate. Subtlety toasted vanillin oak, earthy fennel and spice characters lie underneath. Plush and opulently textured it possesses velvet smooth tannins and concludes long, deeply fruited and seductive.

Yet the tannins are svelte and plush, conferring class and an element of impressive refinement to what initially comes across as a burly, four-square wine. With that in mind, this is a large-framed wine of two parts: the Aussie attack and the burlesque finish, all satin velour and linger. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

It lies on a north-facing slope, and the red volcanic soil has a base of limestone with deep-set sandstone. All fruit is hand-picked from the VSP trellising, with 20 per cent left as whole bunches in the fermentation. Most years between 2 and 4 per cent viognier is co-ferment with the shiraz. Fermentation is started by indigenous yeast, with the fruit macerating in the tank for 19 days before pressing. The wine is matured for 18 months in French oak (20% being new oak) and is bottled under vacuum.
Deep black dark red colour with a vibrant dark red hue. Sailing out of the glass are aromas of red plum and red liquorice infused with a combination of smoked meats, dried herbs and blackpepper. Some scorched earth and spice notes are also apparent. Delicious red plum, dark cherry and red liquorice fruits are sprawled across the elegant mid weighted palate. Smoked meat, vanillin cedar, earth and peppered dried clove characters ensue. Fresh and structured it has a meaty yet quite polished feel with fine grained tannins. Finishes long, refined and spicy.

This Springbank novelty could easily be mistaken for the Campbeltown Loch Blend, as the label looks almost identical - only the age statement has been dropped. It is, actually, a little more exciting than that. Instead of blending malt with grain whisky, Springbank have re-invented the label using Campbeltown single malts sourced from the district's five distilleries (or distillates): Unpeated Kilkerran forms the base, followed by Springbank, Glen Scotia, Hazelburn and Longrow. The upgrade promises a genuine celebration of Campbeltown character, and the distillates all get a showing - from the dirtiness of Glen Scotia to the minerality and citric fruits of Springbank, the chalkiness, saltiness, and florality of Kilkerran, to the peat of Longrow and the clean honeyed notes of Hazelburn. All were drawn from ex-Bourbon and x-Sherry casks and combined and bottled at Springbank, although the whisky's deep colour suggests more of the latter.
If you want to get your head around Springbank without emptying your wallet, Campbeltown Loch is about your only option. The peated elements do most of the heavy lifting, balanced by a lovely malt and sherry richness. That combination, capped off by a salivating salt and pepper tang recalls certain peatier bottlings of Springbank 10 year old (which is reasonable to assume as the inspiration for this whisky). Also bottled at 46%, there's no shortage of Campbeltown chutzpah on offer: Sweet and sooty with a coastal bite, it firmly ranks amongst the most flavoursome, characterful blended malts of recent years. Buy it whenever the price is right.
Other reviews... ...Now, I just see that this is actually a blended malt – I used to believe Campbeltown Lochs were blended Scotch, no? Looks like this one's made out of all single malts in Campbeltown, namely Springbank, Glen Scotia, Hazelburn, Macallan, Kilkerran/Glengyle and Longrow (spot the odd one out!) Colour: white wine. Nose: young, starting citric and chalky, with some lemonade and kiwi juice. Then there's sourdough, a fresh pack of lemon drops, yellow Haribos and a little lime grass. This one should repel any mosquitos, perhaps even Campbeltown's famous – and voracious - midges. Mouth: very good, with a similar chalky, doughy and lemony development, supplemented with a little fresh mint, green pepper and tiny roots and saplings (quinoa?) Finish: rather long, on pretty much the same flavours and with a smokier signature. Longrow, I presume. This wee chemicalness too… Comments: a fully naked Campbeltowner, undisguised and maskless. ...There’s a fruitier freshness and a slightly peppery grip added with a mineralic fizz that makes things a little more pleasing for me. Yet objectively, this remains good, easy sipping whisky and regardless of which batch you grab, you’ll be in good company. The rumours have moved towards this being mostly Glengyle malt (Kilkerran) in the mix here and that would make a lot of sense, despite that distillery only running 25% of the year (from the same team - and malt - as Springbank) they’ve been making whisky since 2004 ,and a lot more since 2018, they’ve gotta free up that precious warehouse space somehow. Why not step in to alleviate some of the demand for Campbeltown whisky with a good honest malt blend?...Very good indeed. - dramface.com
Notes from Springbank... Nose: A distinct buttery note and characteristic hint of sea salt introduce this dram, along with notes of ginger loaf and pecan pie. Palate: Creamy coffee, salted caramel, date syrup and crystallised brown sugar on the palate, with a subtle hint of peat smoke. Finish: The peat smoke builds in the finish, with a leathery note developing over time.
Collectors note: Springbank's labels almost always arrive with minor wearing and markings, most often to the top of the front labels. This is unavoidable. If you are likely to be disappointed by minor label scuffing, we recommend you don't buy these whiskies.

Despite being the largest distillery on Islay (in terms of production anyway), nearly all of Caol Ila's output ends up in blends, so much so that until 2002 when the 12-year-old was released, independent bottlings were the only recourse for malt hunters. The distillery's gently fruity-smoky style sets it apart and comes down to the production process: "...although it receives the same spec of malt as sister distillery Lagavulin, Caol Ila’s distillation regime – longer fermentation, higher cut point, taller stills, helps to reduce the heavy phenols." Our tasting revealed soft aromas of sweet peat, smoked trout, a hint of lanolin and baked citrus. Rounded, pure and impeccably clean from start to finish, the palate offers semi-sweet smoky-fruity-oily flavours counterpointed by super fine tannins. Although this is relatively young for single malt Scotch, the balance is near perfect. The finish goes long with salt, smoked meats and light lanolin through the fade. Other reviews... Funny to think how recently Caol Ila was an Islay giant that was kept pretty much under wraps by its owner. These days it has cemented its reputation as the island’s Mr. Consistent. This version shows its character the best, a nose that mixes seashore and grass with a distinct hint of smoked bacon. The peatiness isn’t dominant, but flows throughout the palate, scenting, lifting, and subtly changing the mix. A seductive brininess and waves of oily peat-reek greet the olfactory sense. The palate entry finds a surprisingly buttery-creamy leaning along with the peat-reek; at midpalate the flavor becomes concentrated, oily, malty sweet, and only moderately peaty. Caol Ila (Gaelic for 'the Sound of Islay') is hidden in a quiet cove near Port Askaig on the island of Islay. Many consider this locality to be the wildest and most picturesque of the island. Situated on Loch Nam Ban, the site is ideal thanks to the abundant supply of good water. The distillery was built in 1846 by Hector Henderson - a Glasgow businessman with a keen interest in distilling. Like Bunnahabhain and Bruichladdich, the development of Caol Ila created along with it a community of its own. Without these distilleries, it's likely that there would have been little sustained human interference in these areas at all. In 1857 Henderson went out of business and the distillery was purchased by Bulloch Lade & Co. The Distillers Company Limited took over management in 1927. From this date production continued until 1972, when the entire structure of the distillery was demolished. A larger distillery was built in the same original architectural style, and production resumed in 1974.

Elevated white peach and pear scents stream out of the glass complimented by hints of dried honey, wet slate and an oyster shell like minerality in what is a Chablisique like sniff. Rich and concentrated yet stony like in it’s feel, the palate is layered with delectable white peach, pear and lime fruits. Wet slate, infusions of fresh herbs and a smoky oyster shell like minerality ensue. Wonderfully textured and fresh it has a long wet stone laced finish that also has a dash of spice to it.

Opulently textured, it has velvet smooth tannins yet there’s an underlyingly sturdy structural presence. Boasting superb power, the finish is long and super fleshy.

Brilliant straw yellow pale gold tinged colour with a watery hue. Leaping out of the glass are honeyed peach and apricot scents followed by some marmalade, sweet pineapple and delicate spice notes. Luscious yet not heavy or cloying, coating the palate are honey drenched flavours of apricot and peach which are intermeshed with notions of pineapple, marmalade, subtle toffee apple and spice. An underlying freshness lends itself to an agile feel across the long and exotic yet elegant finish.

The vineyard has an elevation of up to 38 metres on the highest ridge of the Médoc, offering a beautiful view of the Gironde estuary. About twenty years old, it has 10 ha of vines planted with equal parts Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon resting on soils made up of Pyrenean gravel and limestone. The wine is aged in vats and new barrels.
Made from a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Merlot. Totally opaque black dark red colour with a dark red black tinged hue. Charming the olfactory senses are delightful red to black currant aromas which are trailed by hints of tobacco, dusty cedar, black olive and spicy dried herb notes. Rich yet elegant and finessed, the mid weighted palate is blessed with delicious red to black currant and red cherry fruits which overlay vanillin cedar, earthy tobacco characters, dried herbs and spice. Fine grained yet structural tannins make their presence felt yet remain in perfect balance. Concludes long, savoury and refined.

The fruit is primarily sourced from a vineyard that was planted to Sauvignon Blanc by accident around 40 years ago. (For their Sauternes, Guiraud were after a Semillon-heavy cuvee - too much Sauvignon Blanc was not considered the right balance for a sweet wine). Instead of selling off the Sauvignon or re-planting, Guiraud decided to create a special dry white and the “G” was born.
Brilliant pale straw colour with a subtle greenish tinge around the edges and a watery hue. Aromas of green apple and lime have a subtle herbaceous gooseberry overlay with hints of grassy asparagus characters and light pencil shaving notes also evident. Intensely flavoured and beautifully shaped, the palate features pear, lime and herbaceous gooseberry flavours over a back drop of delicate pencil shavings, grassy asparagus characters and spice. Great textural volume and crisp acidity rounding out to a long, dry and highly savoury conclusion.

Each release aims to showcase the unique textures and flavours found through production of each primary ingredient, as opposed to total neutrality. The final product is created utilising golden rye, grown in the Podlasie countryside of eastern Poland. The mash is distilled four times and five times filtered to create a texturally soft and fruity flavoured Vodka synonymous with the Rye grain.
Other reviews... Clear. Mild grain pastry and creamy meringue aromas and flavors with a soft, off-dry medium body and a smooth, mineral, vanilla taffy and delicate pepper accented finish. A very clean, silky vodka with a sweet spicy snap.
