First produced in 1986 this is the flagship Riesling for Castle Rock Estate. It’s a blend of the 6 Riesling blocks, each with their own unique flavour profiles that contribute to the wines’ overall layered complexity.
Brilliant water like core with highlights of green around the edges. Intense lemon and lime scents infused with steely mineral characters sail from the glass trailed by Granny Smith apple, chalk and flint notes. Zesty lemon, lime and Granny Smith apple fruits are sculptured by zippy acidity which provides laser like focus and great tension. Concentrated and powerful yet steely in its feel with notions of flint, wet steel and minerals lingering long through the dry, mouth watering finish.

I love this wine. Every year it is a star performer, defined by its restraint and finesse. It delivers grace and levity, focus and poise, all wrapped in a talc-y, floral package. Pretty good if you ask me. So, this 2023 Porongurup Riesling is a child of the mild and even 2023 season, and the wine is a superstar. It's really packed on all sides with flavor and fine texture. This is an exciting wine that is outrageously good value for money, and it will age beautifully. A well-kept secret in Western Australia, it sells for $32 AUD. 12% alcohol, sealed under screw cap. The epitome of Porongurup Riesling. Chalky florals, crushed stone minerality, nashi pear skin, a lick of bath salts, delicate spice, dried ginger, subtle flint, citrus blossom, lemongrass, citrus zest, lime pith and pip. The fine, succulent palate is pure and glass-like, gripping in all the right places, with mouthwatering acidity taking its place as a support role behind the fruit and the textural cues. An impressive, measured and elegant Riesling, and while it is deliciously fresh and floral now in its youth, it has a long life ahead for those who can wait. All class.

Oh my. One sniff confirmed by the taste shows why this is regarded as one of the great vintages for riesling and why Rob Diletti is regarded as one of our great winemakers. A flagship wine for the brand which they have been making since 1986. So it’s no surprise they have absolutely NAILED it once again. It’s almost like what freshly bathed baby skin smells like, pure and immaculate. Apple blossoms, white nectarine and lychee. Greengage plums, lime pith and quartz. Slippery and nimble on the palate the wine is delicate but mighty in its long flavour length and grip. Gorgeous in its reflective tones and elegant style – drink now and will cellar upwards of 8 years. I’d love to see this served with burrata, tomatillos and smoked salt. Drink now and bask in the splendour of superb Porongurup, because it’s SO hot right now. Drink 2023-2031.

Nicolas Catena has been instrumental in Argentina’s progress over the last three decades, bringing the country's wine industry into line with world class standards. What you can now get for your money in the present day climate are seriously good expressions of the nation's signature varietal, Malbec, that rival many Australian reds for punch and price. Made by fourth generation vintner Laura Catena and chief winemaker, Alejandro Vigil, this wine is sourced from three high altitude vineyards. Each vineyard is specifically farmed in preparation for its role in the final blend. Eighty year old vines in the Lunlunta (Maipù) vineyard lend soft, sweet texture whilst the intense sunshine in the Gualtallary (Tupungato) vineyard provides explosive floral aromatics and a concentrated structure. The last component is from El Cipillo in Eugenio Bustos, which has loamy sands and thick calcareous layers sit over rounded rock. Maturation takes place in a mix of new, second and third use French oak barrels for a period of 11-13 months.
2022 was an exceptional year from every possible qualitative standpoint. Winemaker Alejandro Vigil stating: “This is the best year that I have lived through”.
Juicy, supple and sleek, this is one moreish Malbec.
Midnight black heart with a vibrant dark red purple hue. Fragrant scents of violet, red currant, blueberry and red liquorice delight the olfactory senses with some complimenting dried herb, vanillin cedar and spicy earth notes ensuing. Rich dark cherry, blueberry and red liquorice fruits infused with dried herbs are layered across the mid weighted palate with great polish and refinement. Flashing across the back half are spicy vanillin cedar and delicate earth accents. Possessing excellent freshness, a supple feel and sleek tannins, it has a long juicy red to blue fruited conclusion that makes for moreish drinking.

Pours well with a creamy white mousse and pale gold base wine colour. Very fine delicate bead showing excellent persistence. Refined aromas of yeast lees and brioche are overlaid by some toastiness with following notes of baked bread and cashew. Showing both richness and finesse the palate has seamlessly integrated flavours of baked bread, yeast lees and toastiness over some almond and brioche. Clean dry finish with a moderately creamy mouthfeel. Long aftertaste of baked bread, yeast lees, cashew and toasty brioche.

This excellent Rose Champagne is typically composed of Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay grapes from a single vintage which makes up 80% of the blend. The remaining 20% is made up of reserve wines with an average age of 5 years.

A salmon pink base, interspersed by an exceptionally fine and persistent bead, carries a buoyant lacy mousse well. On the nose delicate peach and winter strawberry aromas meld into elements of toast, yeasty baked bread and citrus notes. Very refined and long there’s a subtle creaminess to the winter strawberry, peach, toast, baked bread, yeast lees and citrus flavours. Crisp acidity lends itself to a dry refreshing finish. Château Fontis is located in the town of Ordonnac. The vineyard has an elevation of up to 38 metres on the highest ridge of the Médoc, offering a beautiful view of the Gironde estuary. About twenty years old, it has 10 ha of vines planted with equal parts Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon resting on soils made up of Pyrenean gravel and limestone. The wine is aged in vats and new barrels.
Made from a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Merlot. Totally opaque black dark red colour with a dark red black tinged hue. Charming the olfactory senses are delightful red to black currant aromas which are trailed by hints of tobacco, dusty cedar, black olive and spicy dried herb notes. Rich yet elegant and finessed, the mid weighted palate is blessed with delicious red to black currant and red cherry fruits which overlay vanillin cedar, earthy tobacco characters, dried herbs and spice. Fine grained yet structural tannins make their presence felt yet remain in perfect balance. Concludes long, savoury and refined.

The 28 hectare vineyard is split on such a way, that part of the vines are in Barsac, (next to Chateau Climens), part are at Preignac and a large slice next to Chateau d’Yquem. At one stage the label used to boast this fact, with the words 'CONTIGU d’YQUEM'. Son, Herue is a dedicated and passionate winemaker who ages wine in 25% to 50% new oak casks. The exact percentage depends upon the vintage conditions. The 2020 vintage comes replete with special packaging to celebrate 200 years of the Lamothe family being vignerons.
Brilliant pale gold core with golden tinged edges. Potent honey drenched ripe peach and apricot aromas mix with marmalade, dried pineapple and spice notes. Rich and lusciously textured, the palate features honeyed peach and apricot flavours alongside sweet ripe pineapple, marmalade and candied citrus characters. Outstanding power and depth finishing very long with ample freshness and mouth feel.

Deep dark red black tinged colour with a dark red hue. Lifted red to black currant aromas mix with hints of red liquorice, earth, black olive and spice. Mid weighted, nicely fleshed and possessing good richness, a mix of red to black currant and liquorice fruits are featured over an earth, dried herb, spice and faint leather back drop. Nicely integrated fine grained tannins. The savoury finish showing good depth.

I loved the nose on the 2018 Château Jamard Belcour, including its classic Right Bank red and black fruits, chalky minerality, chocolate, and cedar pencil aromatics. These carry to a medium-bodied, beautifully balanced, elegant, seamless red that shines on all accounts. I'd be thrilled with a bottle on the dinner table, and while it's drinking great today, I see no reason it shouldn't keep for at least 7-8 years. Drink 2022-2030.

A liquid dynamite, pleasure bent Grenache.
Deep black dark red core with black tinged edges and a red to dark red hue. Intense red to dark raspberry, red liquorice and dark cherry aromas flood the nostrils followed by notes of fresh herbs, subtle incense and peppered earth. Rich, exuberant and succulent the lavish palate is awash with a super concentrate of dark to black raspberries, dark cherries and liquorice that possess incredible torque and dynamite like power. Infusions of provincial herbs, scorched earth and peppered dried meats are largely obscured by the gobs of gorgeous, seductive fruit. Silky yet structured tannins concluding exceptionally long and juicy yet slightly chewy in its feel.

Master Distiller, Waldemar Durakiewicz, has worked with the Dorda family (who still own and run the company) since he graduated from university in 1978. Named after Poland's favourite son, the vodka is packaged in a frosted, cork-finished bottle which has since been copied by the likes of Belvedere Vodka and others.

The texture is mouthwatering and comes with a keen sense of cured meats; Rich cereals are the keynote. Oily peat rises through the finish, but never asserts first place. The overall effect is very pleasing - perfect for drinkers who don't mind a wisp of smoke in their whisky. Bourbon cask matured. 50% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.

Third generation winemakers Tom and Sam Barry of Jim Barry fame run the Clos Clare operation. This is their sixteenth vintage from Clos Clare's Riesling patch of 53 year old dry grown vines which adjoins the historic Jim Barry 'Florita' vineyard in Watervale.
Brilliant water like core with a faint greenish tinge around the outskirts. Intense lemon and lime scents leap from the glass followed by orange rind, chalky talc, wet steel and mineral notes. A pure concentrate of Riesling, the palate is awash with mouth filling lime, citrus and orange rind flavours. Possessing outstanding power and drive the back half sees chalky talc and steely mineral elements race across it. Crunchy acidity finishing exceptionally long and scrumptious.

The Clos Clare patch is comprised of 53-year-old riesling vines, for this wine. It's such a pristine, bony and tense expression, refreshing and moreish as it comes. Scents of lime and green apple, chamomile, ozone and flinty mineral qualities, the palate a reflection of these descriptions through and through. A chalky pucker to texture, light on – let's say delicate – but packed with fruit and mineral qualities. Beautiful poise and precision. Lots of words to say 'this is a ripper drink', and wonderful in the prime of its youth. Drink by 2035.

Am I right in thinking 2023 was a good vintage for Clare Valley Riesling? On the back of 2021 and 2022.
A whole lot of flint and crunch and energy here. It’s bony but has flavour, there’s lime zest, lemongrass and spice, bath salts, a grapefruit and lemon sherbet zing, and a smattering of green herbs. Acidity is pure and firm, and the finish is very long and tight, with white pepper to close. No shortage of texture. Excellent. Drink 2023-2036+

From an 18-hectare estate planted at a density of around 10,000 vines per hectare, the 2019 Clos Manou is a serious wine. Unwinding in the glass with aromas of dark berry fruit, cigar wrapper, licorice and espresso roast, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and layered, with terrific concentration, lively acids and plenty of ripe, powdery tannin that will reward a bit of bottle age. It's closed with an Ardeaseal technical cork as used by Burgundy's Domaine Ponsot among others. This estate merits a mention in any list of Bordeaux's finest under-the-radar producers. ...Two of my favourite things in life, Clynelish and jazz, connected in a bottle of whisky! The label seems to show a young Sonny Rollins playing the trumpet in a rather 'Miles' stance (trumpet heavily pointing downwards), an unusual sight indeed but why not? One day I'll tell you about the time I almost had an argument with Dizzy Gillespie and Clark Terry at a Miles Davis concert at the Nice festival, but that's a story for another time… Yes, I know, I've already promised I'd tell it. Colour: pale gold. Nose: quite an unusual nose, initially on adhesives and varnishes, then on dough, cut grass, and apple peel. Water should awaken all this (in lieu of using a trumpet). With water: the proverbial wax, absent at cask strength, suddenly comes out of the woodwork, so to speak. It becomes both simple and beautiful at once. Old apples, beeswax, tangerine peel. Palate (neat): it's very tense, very lemony and on green apple, with a bit of cane sugar and quite a bit of green tea. Citrus liqueur but no wax so far. With water: water works miracles, here is a pure Clynelish, taut, without frills. Finish: long, fresh, and, you guessed it, on wax, citrus, and apple. Jim Murray raved about the 14 year old in his 2022 Whisky Bible, positioning it as one of the most highly rated and affordable malts of the annual. Serge Valentin of whiskyfun.com ranks Clynelish a Grand Cru Classé and one of his favourite makes. Yet today, only a tiny percentage is marketed as a single, the remainder being allocated to the Johnnie Walker Gold blend.
Thinking of the great centres of malt whisky, Speyside and Islay come first to mind. But other regions play a part in whisky’s story, and Scotland’s far north-east, from where Clynelish comes, is one. Located on the stormy sea coast of Sutherland, Clynelish is a replica of the modern Islay distillery, Caol Ila. Not long after the original Clynelish was built in 1819 by the Duke of Sutherland, its quality was already highly prized and only private customers were supplied; “trade orders” were refused and Clynelish was “always the highest priced of any Scotch whisky.” ' Old Clynelish' was mothballed in 1968 and re-opened as 'Brora' the following year, focusing on peated malt. 'New Clynelish' was built adjacent to Brora, the latter ceasing production in 1983.
In the present day Diageo-owned operation, barley is malted with a medium peat and mashed with water from the Clynemilton burn to produce the wort, which is then distilled twice in pot stills. Described by whisky writer, Dave Broom as "A disarming malt that exudes sheer class", Clynelish’s style stands out for its low-peat coastal character, which is often notably waxy (think snuffed candles, beeswax or wax lined jackets) complexed by hints of orange peel and briny sea air. That pretty much sums up our experience of this bottling.

Coming from the commune of Ronca in the heart of Garganega country, Monte Ronca is a creation of local specialist, Antonio Fattori, an acknowledged Soave-master. Most the fruit for wines comes from the hills to the north of this commune, a specific site called Monte Calvarino, which peaks at 680 m (the inactive volcano from which the wine takes its name). At this altitude, this beautiful cool site provides a perfect environment for a higher grade, single site Soave. The hills around Monte Calvarino (in comparative terms to the region in general) are particularly steep, and from a viticultural perspective, pose some challenges. But to Antonio, this is critical to capture depth of flavour and structure, as the best expressions of Soave are never found on the valley floor where it gets too warm. Here, the ancient volcanic soils impart a flinty minerality to the hand-harvested fruit, while in the cellar, lees stirring and subtle oak ageing and varying levels of appassimento add a rich texture and further complexity to the wine.
Brilliant pale straw colour with a distinctive greenish tinge to the outskirts and a watery hue. Intense pear, red apple and lime aromas engulf the nostrils with some wet stone and fresh herb notes also evident. Delicious juicy ripe pear and red apple fruits flood every corner of the mouth with some lime and wet stone characters lingering underneath. Boasting terrific concentration, volume and brisk acidity it finishes long, textured and incredibly moreish. A fantastic example of Soave.

These BIB releases are what Australian Bourbon lovers really miss out on. Even if you can find them, the prices are often prohibitive. Score one as good as this and the deal gets sweeter. From a fresh bottle, it's a little prickly and smells like varnish, leather and hazelnuts, but later goes deeply caramelly, nutty, dried fruit and Bounty Bar-like after additional exposure. Spirity and warm, though not without a serious injection of sugars; by mid palate it turns buttery, maple-like, rounded, even soft. The finish offers toasted tea biscuits, bitter chocolate, crushed mint and a gentle, oaky astringency. The reigned-in spirit is nicely harmonised and the quality of the wood really shines. You have to love the evolving character of this ballsy, compelling, and at moments, luscious Bourbon that demands patience to show its very best. 50% Alc./Vol. No mash bill stated.

On one hand you have a really full-flavored bourbon that can almost go head to head with it’s bigger brother E.H. Taylor Single Barrel and holds it’s own. On the other hand you're paying slightly more for the presentation of the packaging for the bourbon it contains. While I wish this sold for [a little] less, there’s no denying that it’s a really solid bourbon that most individuals will enjoy. The palate is delectable and sans the heavy alcohol upfront, the overall flavor profile is enjoyable. For 124 years, five generations of the Bujanda family have produced some of the finest wines from Rioja. It was Joaquín Martínez Bujanda who started the company with 10 hectares of vines in Rioja Alavasa and over the years the estate has expanded to include vineyards across the region.
A blend of 85% Tempranillo, 7% Mazuelo, 6% Graciano and 2% Garnacha aged for 30 months in a mixture of French (70%) and American (30%) oak barrels. Deep black dark red core with a dark red hue. Pronounced liquorice, dark raspberry and black cherry aromas are interwoven with vanillin oak, earthy mocha, leather and spice notes. The medium bodied palate is flush with liquorice and black raspberry fruits which meld into a back drop of earth, vanillin oak, spicy mocha and leather. Slightly chewy mouth feel with integrated yet grainy tannins. Concludes long and savoury.

Connemara is a wild, mountainous region on the west coast of Ireland, lying between the Atlantic Ocean and Loughs Corrib and Mask. Peat bogs are a major fuel source for the region and have played an important role throughout Irish history both as an energy source and in the production of whiskey. However, as many of the distilleries in Ireland were located alongside a canal, the transport and use of coal in distilleries became more efficient than peat. This temporarily killed the tradition of drying malted barley over peat fires. Managing Director of Cooley Distillery, David Hynes and chairman John Teeling have resurrected this traditional Irish custom, creating Ireland's first contemporary peated malt. Noted whisky writer, Michael Jackson commented “The revival of rustic peatiness adds a whole new element to today’s palette of Irish whiskey flavours…Lots happening. Chimney pots of smoke. I love this whiskey.” The show circuit has also seen Connemara Peated decorated, receiving over twenty medals from major spirits competitions since 2012.
Gilded in peat reek, there are initially potpourri-like scents with lavender evident, then deeper notes like orange marmalade, toasty oak and smokey bacon. It's relatively light bodied, which indicates first and foremost this is Irish whiskey; a soft, round entry leads into a sweet grainy burst with a chewy mouthfeel and perfectly harmonised peat that neither dominates nor detracts, finishing drier with vanilla, toffee apple and spice. Hardly your typical peater from Islay, yet this has real complexity and soul - even if it pulls up slightly short. 40% Alc./Vol.

...Golden amber color. Shy aromas of dried fruits, raisins, and nuts have a lightly phenolic edge. Soft and supple entry leads to a dryish medium-bodied palate with delicate nut, buttery dry caramel, and reedy wood with a touch of peat and iodine. First released in 2014, Craigellachie's 13 year old is a perfect introduction to the distillery's heavy distillate, partly the result of short fermentations but also due to enormous stills with straight lyne arms adding reflux. Even from a 30ml sample, it's a whisky with terrific depth. Fruity, almost floral aromas hint at lucerne mulch and new leather, slowly giving way to ripe orchard fruits - especially green apples. The palate sports delicious, buttery-malt and spicy pear flavours with more pepper, late fruitiness and lingering spices. Some tasters also note a slightly sulphury / smokey edge (think spent matches). This style won't be for everyone, but it is undeniably one of the more distinctive malts in its price bracket. 46% Alc./Vol.
Other reviews... Light amber. The initial impression is one of bulk. There are heavy florals — think lilies and stewed white fruit, and just-overripe banana — but this is given a mysterious extra heft by an underpinning of a light meatiness, accompanied by a tiny lift of (good) sulfur. ...You couldn’t make a label look more ‘retro’, could you! Unless you start using hieroglyphs or cuneiform alphabet. Colour: straw. Nose: it is a milder, rounder and sweeter version of the 2003, but the background is similar. Wee touches of mezcal again, a little earth, a little sulphur (spirit sulphur) that borders almondiness (what?), plenty of apples and then a few raisins and a touch of vanilla. It’s got a style, and that’s just great, even if it does nose a little young, almost as much so as the DL. Mouth: a few burnt notes in the attack, notes of distillation, cooked sugar and herbs… But it gets then cleaner, maltier and slightly smoky, with a bitterish edge. May lack a part of the DL’s vibrancy (as the pros say.) Finish: rather long, between candy sugar and this bitter side. Grapefruit skin. Comments: mixed feelings here. On the one hand, I find the honesty and the nakedness fantastic, it’s not botoxed whisky at all. On the other hand, I find it a little raw and bitter. Craiglee is one of the most important historic vineyards in Australia, with vines originally planted there in 1863 by one of Melbourne’s founding fathers, James Johnston. Energy was injected back into Craiglee when enthusiastic agricultural science graduate, Pat Carmody replanted it in 1976.
Brilliant pale straw to straw colour with subtle flashes of green around the edges and a watery hue. Nosing offers up ripe peach and honeycomb aromas followed by hints of bacon fat, butterscotch, crème brulee and spicy nougat. Rich fleshy ripe peach, apricot and honeycomb flavours carry a silky feel with notions of crème brulee, subtle bacon fat and spicy nougat sitting underneath. Nicely measured acidity finishing long, full and creamy textured yet fresh.

Crown Royal Black is a more robust and intensely flavoured take on traditional Canadian whiskies, which often place emphasis on 'mellowness'. This expression is not only extra-oaked, but also bottled at 45% abv, which is unconventional given that high-proof bottlings fell out of common practise in Canada around the 1950s. It pours a deep bright copper / mahogany colour and follows with sweet, heavy scents of dilute maple syrup, vanilla wafer and cocoa. A soft, light entry leads into a semi sweet burst of vanillan oak, light maple syrup and lively spices with a touch of rye kicking in the finish. It's finally medium dry and gently peppery with fresh cut wood emerging late into the aftertaste. All-round a richer offering than your standard CR, and with zipped up spiciness, bourbon drinkers should enjoy this as an alternative, as should lovers of PX matured malts. 45% Alc./Vol.

...Not exactly black. (More like russet, but Crown Royal Russet isn't as catchy.) It's nice to see the higher strength, and there's definitely more flavor here than the standard Crown Royal or Crown Royal Reserve. But it's missing the smoothness and elegance I cherish in other Crown Royal whiskies. Notes of molasses and maple syrup, accentuated by burnt fig, hints of pedro ximenez sherry, and raisin. Crown Royal Black is, as you may expect, an added-oak version of the venerable Crown Royal Canadian whisky. In this case, “black” is no joke. It may very well be the darkest color whiskey I’ve ever encountered, a deep hazelnut color in the glass. The spirit in a full bottle is nearly opaque. This concerned me. Over-oaking is a serious risk in whiskey, and the worry of a ruined whisky was on the top of my mind. The good news is that Crown Royal Black isn’t too far gone. Yes, it is oaked to within an inch of its life, but Crown has taken it just to the edge — and brought it back again. The body is sweet like standard Crown Royal, but laced with intense oily wood notes, cinnamon, black pepper, and dried figs. Surprisingly mild for 90 proof, that wood character even overpowers the alcohol out of the spirit. Long and smoldering finish, like a campfire turning to ash. That, of course, has good and bad connotations. I expect CR Black may be too much whisky for many. Fruit was sourced from Dalrymple’s own vineyards at Pipers River and Coal River Valley along with growers in Swansea and Ouse. Utilising a variety of blocks, different clones and slightly different aspects each of these sites made its own unique contribution to the final blend. The cooler northern maritime location at Pipers River produces Pinot Noir that is focused and structured, while the Coal River Valley in the south adds texture and softness to the mid-palate. Five to twenty five percent whole bunches were included depending on the site and maturation took place in French oak barriques (20% new) for a period of 9 months.
Dark red core with black toned edges and a red hue. Wonderfully perfumed nose with aromas of violet, red to dark cherries, strawberries and subtle anise sailing out of the glass followed by notions of spicy cedar, forest floor and fresh herbs. Light, fresh and supple in its feel, delicious red cherry, strawberry and delicate rhubarb flavours move across the palate with forest floor, fresh herbs and spicy cedar lingering underneath. Polished tannins and bright acidity with the elegant, red fruited finish showing a savoury edge.

From the highest distillery in Scotland (at 326 metres above sea level), set in the windswept Grampian mountains of the Highlands, comes this delicate malt to be savoured. Originally called 'Strathspey', the Dalwhinnie distillery was founded by James Buchanan in 1897. Buchanan became well known for his 'Buchanan' and 'Black & White' blends which used Dalwhinnie as a core component. Later renamed 'Dalwhinnie', (Gaelic for “meeting place” ) the distilleries site is where cattle drovers and smugglers met on their way to markets in the south.

The whisky itself is often referred to as 'The Gentle Spirit', in contrast to the rugged environment it is produced in. (Staff at the distillery have been known to climb out first-floor windows in order to get to work when snow piles up in the hard winters.) This is testified to by its subtle, smooth, lightly smoked character and heathery, honey finish. Barely classifiable as a Speyside distillery, Dalwhinnie's location is at least forty kilometres south of the dense collection of stills in the 'lower Spey'. The distilleries endless water supply comes from the Allt an t'Sluic spring, bedded in granite. Current management boast their use of traditional wooden washbacks and distinctive lye pipes leading from the tops of the stills.

Other reviews… Nose: sublime stuff: a curious mixture of coke smoke and peat-reek wafts teasingly over the gently honied malt. A hint of melon offers some fruit but the caressing malt stars; Taste: that rarest of combinations: at once silky and malt intense, yet at the same time peppery and tin-hat time for the tastebuds, but the silk wins out and a sheen of barley sugar coats everything, soft peat included; Finish: some cocoa and coffee notes, yet the pervading slightly honeyed sweetness means that there is no bitterness that cannot be controlled; Balance: a malt it is hard to decide whether to drink or bath in: I suggest you do both. One of the most complete mainland malts of them all. Know anyone who reckons they don't like whisky? Give them a glass of this ~ that's them cured. Fine grained tannin structure with inky earth, spicy vanillin cedar and pepper characters lingering through the back half. Finishes fresh, long and succulent with plenty of blackpepper shining through.

Chris Bendle’s entry level Pinot Noir is a blend of two vineyards in Kangaroo Ground and Woori Yallock, from the Northern and Southernmost points of the Yarra Valley. With a similar ripening period, but distinctly different soils, MV6 pinot noir from both vineyards was picked within a period of 1 week and treated in a near identical manner whilst being kept entirely separate.
Dark red in colour with black toned edges and a vibrant red to dark red hue. Pretty and fragrantly expressive out of the glass the nose is grabbed by scents of dark cherries, strawberries and violets which are flanked by some fresh herb, subtle forest floor and delicate spicy cedar notes. Light and elegant yet richly fruited, red to dark cherry and winter strawberry flavours overlay a violet infused back drop of fresh herbs, forest floor and spice. Possessing excellent freshness, depth and drive it has polished tannins and a long persistent finish.

Winemaker Chris Bendle’s day job is at Hoddles Creek Estate but he still finds time to work on his own venture, DCB wine, sourcing fruit from a vineyard in Gladysdale in the picturesque Upper Yarra. The 28 year old vines are planted on an east facing slope and maturation takes place in a mixture of barrique and demi muid barrels.
Rich yet wonderfully refined, this delightful Yarra Valley Chardonnay possesses a degree of sophistication rarely seen at this price.
Brilliant pale straw to straw colour with a greenish tone to the edges and a watery hue. Drifting out of the glass are aromas of white peach and nectarine which are complexed by hints of dried honey, cashew, nougat and spice. A gentle creamy textural feel is complimented by deftly balanced acidity. Finishes long with a degree of sophistication rarely seen at this price.

A blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 5% Malbec that was matured in French oak barriques (20% new) for a period of 18 months. Totally opaque black dark red colour with a dark red hue. Attractive scents or red to black currant and mulberry show excellent intensity out of the glass as they morph into vanillin cedar, tobacco, earthy black olive and bay leaf notes along the way. Richly fruited, the mid weighted palate features supplely textured blackcurrant and mulberry fruits over a cedary tobacco, earthy black olive and spicy bay leaf back drop. A fine grained tannin structure lends polish to the long, refined finish that’s brimming with sublime red and black fruit.
