Semi translucent very dark red core with black tinged edges and a light red hue. The lighter bodied palate has a soft fleshy feel to it, being amply fruited with dark cherries and strawberries followed by dried herbs, forest floor and spicy cedar. Smooth, very polished tannins with good length and a savoury aftertaste.

This is a blend of Chambertin itself (two-thirds) and one third Clos de Bèze. Glowing imperial crimson purple. The nose has it all, clearly all the nobility it should have. The crunchy mineral tension found throughout the Fourrier wines pays dividends here. There is exceptional intensity but it is beautifully judged. Some liquorice notes but above all an amazing intensity of fruit which lingers long.

This is a high-class nose, very intense, flirts with volatile but returns to a sense of precision, especially in comparison with the lush Bonnes Mares. Full-bodied, ample and multidimensional, it's layered and nicely concentrated. If my speculations about the provenance of this négociant cuvée are correct, Fourrier deserves all the more praise for rendering what is probably the best wine produced from these holdings in this vintage.

Medium bodied, juicy and fleshy, the rich palate is filled with ripe dark cherry and dark plum fruit which merges into elements of anise, toasty oak and spice. Velvet smooth tannins. Cold soaked; fermented in 15 batches; 25% whole bunches; small proportion of wild ferment; regular pigéage and intermittent rémontage; matured 10 months in French oak barriques. There is an ever more pronounced stamp of terroir on Tasmania's increasingly demarcated subregions, and wines like this declare it with authority. The definition of Relbia pinot, at once deeply set in black cherry, black plum, anise and licorice, at the same time soaring with violet fragrance and all the energy of Tasmanian acidity and finely textured tannins. Is Relbia the Gevrey of the Tamar and is Chromy its Chambertin? This wine says, 'yes, and yes!' Drink by 2035.

This had just been bottled and not surprisingly there was a mild touch of reduction, yet it still permitted the red berry fruit nuances to be discerned. There is both fine vibrancy and delineation to the delicious middle weight flavors that exhibit a touch of bitter pit fruit character on the fruit-driven finale. Note that this competent effort should drink well after only a year or so of bottle aging. Drink 2024+.

An excellent entry level Burgundy from the outstanding 2015 vintage.

Semi translucent dark red colour with a bright dark crimson hue. Elegant but perfumed, nosing offers up aromatics of violets, dark cherries, strawberries and a hint of sour cherries followed by earthy incense like characters and subtle spicy cedar. Light in body but with plenty of flavour the palate dishes up an elegant, savoury profile of spicy ripe dark cherries and strawberries that intermix with just a dash of sour cherries to freshen things up. Also evident are underlying elements of faint earth, subtle dried herbs and spicy cedar. Bright finish with slightly dryish but fine grained tannins. Aftertaste of spicy dark cherries, strawberries, a touch of sour cherries, subtle earthy dried herbs and spicy cedar.

Described by wine commentator Mike Bennie as "one of Australia’s brightest young winemakers”, Joshua Cooper is steadily forging a reputation for thoughtful, elegant, and confident wines from grapes grown in Macedon and surrounds. Doug's Vineyard, near Romsey in the Macedon Ranges, was planted 20 years ago by the Newnham family, with mostly MV6 pinot noir and some 114 and 115 clone vines. The soil here is rich in rocky volcanic basalt, which limits vine growth and enhances the intensity of the fruit. After three weeks of fermentation, the wine was pressed to two new (Laurent “Magic Cask” thick stave, blonde toast), seven young (2-4yo Laurent “Magic Cask”) and ten old (6-10yo) oak Burgundian barrels for 12 months of maturation. The wine is then racked to stainless steel tanks for four more months of settling, before bottling without any additives except a small amount of sulphur.

Described by wine commentator Mike Bennie as "one of Australia’s brightest young winemakers”, Joshua Cooper is steadily forging a reputation for thoughtful, elegant, and confident wines from grapes grown in Macedon and surrounds. The Lakey family established the Ray-Monde Vineyard in 1988 in South Gisborne, at an elevation of 400 meters above sea level, on the southern edge of the Macedon Ranges GI. This vineyard is unique to the area with it's gravelly ironstone and basaltic clay with very little topsoil and lots of "Bluestone" rocks just below the surface. This unique soil, along with the age of the vines, results in grapes that are highly concentrated, with thick skins and ripe stems. Josh Cooper says ’22 is the best wine he’s made off this site to date. It’s more savoury and, in a way, structured compared with the Doug’s Vineyard pinot. This comes out with dark cherries, rhubarb, kirsch and licorice root, plus warm earth and bitumen aromas. Complex, rich but not heavy, fuller bodied, with ample tannins all plush and textural, quite distinctive in how they feel across the palate; then fine acidity corrals everything into one seamless offering. The 2022 Ray-Monde Vineyard Pinot Noir is dark in the glass and laden on the nose with graphite and ash, licorice, char and black cherries. The wine is earthy and steely, with black pudding, blood plum, tart cherry and spice and a crackle of dry autumn leaf. It leans more on the structure and spice characters than it does on fruit volume here. It's a compact wine.
I love the tannins; they start sparse but build through the mid-palate and rise up through the fruit through the finish. The tannins are chewy, as opposed to drying. Lovely. 12.5% alcohol, sealed under Diam. Drink 2023 - 2035.

Ray-Monde always has me in mind of Rayman the video game character. Instead we have a regenerative-farmed, mixed agriculture property with some pretty damn fine vines on the place – Gisbourne here we are.
As is the motif of the 2022 pinot noirs from Josh Cooper, there is savouriness writ large. Dark cherry, cola, sooty spices, paperbark, black tea and chamomile floral lift with some violet notes in the mix. It saunters along the palate, hugging the corners, drying things out in a broad swish of web-like lacy tannin. It finishes with a solid, black tea chew and feels brooding and intense, but with a very palatable, gentle juiciness that lets you in right now. It feels like one for further on, perhaps. Drink 2025 - 2035.

Once you experience it, you never forget it. For some wine lovers, Pinot Noir becomes an obsession. While promising one of world's greatest wine experiences, it can also deliver some of the most disappointing. What is it about Pinot that makes it so frustratingly variable? There are known quality factors which offer encouragement to winemakers. Micro-climates have been observed to play an important part in a successful matrix, particularly the diurnal temperature range.
