    Totally opaque black dark red colour with a dark red hue. Aromas of dark plum and aniseed fill the nostrils followed by some spicy vanillin cedar, scorched earth, choc mint and pepper notes. Rich juicy dark plum and aniseed flavours carry a lush feel across the medium to full bodied palate. Spicy vanillin cedar, subtle choc mint, scorched earth and pepper characters stretch across the back half. Underlying sturdy tannins finishing long and succulent.

    A young Deanston that's benefited from time in an Oloroso Sherry barrique. For a start, it smells older than it is; the nose has a reserved, dryish malty character, with subtle leather and tobacco mingling amongst the dried fruits. Unexpectedly mouth filling, medium to full bodied, though never aggressive. Creamy notes of tea biscuits are set against a subtle fruity character (orange zest? Ripe papaya?) Good length, ending drier, the oak encroaching. 50% Alc./Vol. Non-chill filtered. Tasted from a 50ml sample.

    The all-Bourbon matured 18 year old makes a return to our shelves with the annual 2024 edition just landed. The last time Serge Valentin from whiskyfun tasted this expression was back in 2020. As noted from his most recent tasting below, these bottlings seem to be getting better and better. The producers note honeyed granola, fruit gums, pear drops and tropical fruits. 46% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.

    Other reviews... A freshly bottled edition, August 2024. A sign of the times, you’ll currently find Springbank 18 priced anywhere between €350 and €750 from online retailers, or from €250 on eBay. Of course, this doesn’t change the quality of the liquid one bit. The last one we tasted was the 2020 edition, very good (WF 86) but a far cry from our favourite, the 10-year-old (WF 91 last time) or the younger Local Barleys (also 91). And it's far superior to the ‘Red’, about which we’ll remain silent. Colour: straw. Nose: surprising, heading in the direction of the 10-year-old, with plenty of wet chalk, raw wool, sourdough, aspirin tablets, even bandages, followed by lemon zest, paraffin, a hint of seawater, and traces of tar. This is riiiight up my alley. Mouth: oilier and saltier on the palate, with peat, ashes, a touch of green apple liqueur, and that persistent wet chalk that’s a bit reminiscent of ‘natural’ champagnes. A lovely green pepper then appears, accompanied by small bits of candied lemon, which I find particularly ‘Springbank’. Finish: long, saline, peppery, with fine bitterness and ash, and then paraffined lemon in the aftertaste. Comments: well, either Springbank 18 is evolving, or it’s me.     On the nose very much determined by the bourbon barrel: Ripe yellow fruit, vanilla and flower meadow. Accompanied by very subtle smoke. A wonderfully complex nose. Lots of bright yellow fruits are again present on the tongue. There is also a spicy eucalyptus note and plenty of complexity. A wonderful whisky. Springbank and 100% bourbon simply work brilliantly.     Notes from the producers... Nose: Tropical fruits are at the forefront in notes of papaya and pineapple. There is a malty, dried barley note, with vanilla and custard creams. Palate: Notes of golden syrup and honeyed granola emerge on the palate, along with fruit gums, pear drops and butter icing. Finish: The tropical fruits carry through to the finish, with the addition of a herbaceous, gorse note and a touch of sea salt.

    Springbank's twelve year old cask strength edition has been on the market for about twelve years. Releases have not always been to schedule. In some years, just one bottling was offered. Due to its growing popularity, Springbank has settled on two annual releases. Batch 26 is the second offering for 2024 and comes matured in 60% bourbon casks, 35% sherry casks and 5% rum casks. Oily, sweet peat and rich barley combine in what is for many the definitive bottling from this distillery, preferred even over older age statements. Always a big whisky, it's reported that the deeper colour indicates they're now using more fresh, first-fill sherry, which should further up the flavour profile. 56.2% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.

    Other reviews... A beauty and not something to be rushed. I have a couple of open editions from previous years and I considered a comparison, but what’s the point? It’s not like we can go out and choose which to pick up. Each batch is a wee bit different, sure, but they’re all on a similar theme and every one is something to cherish.     Notes from the producers... Nose: Toffee apple sweetness kicks off this cask strength whisky, along with notes of parma ham, hazelnut and marzipan. Palate: Rich and syrupy on the palate, there are notes of tinned peaches, fruit syrup, honeycomb and milk chocolate. Finish: Subtle peat smoke emerges in the finish, along with notes of heather honey and orange rind.

    For a whisky style that's naturally on the sweeter side, this grain has survived time in a Pedro Ximenez sherry barrique without falling flat. A vague pear/apple fruitiness adds freshness to the nose; the flavours come with a mild alcohol flare and notes of cream soda, sponge cake, vanilla, milk chocolate plus late hints of dates. As an experiment in maturation, it has succeeded in fattening up to malt-standards what otherwise might have been a relatively thin affair. Hardly complex, but impressively textural for grain of this ilk. 50% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered. Tasted from a 50ml sample.

    Notes from the bottlers... Nose: Aniseed. Creamy. Hint of fennel. Sweet mint. Vanilla pod. Palate: Rich vanilla with crème brulee. More aniseed, slightly herbal. Finish: Custard, creamy finish. Lots of vanilla, raisins and icing sugar.

    Matured in a combination of new (25%), one, two and three year old French oak barriques for a period of 9 months. Brilliant pale straw colour with greenish tinged edges and a watery hue. Filling the nostrils are aromas of ripe peach, apricot, crème brulee and honeycomb trailed by hints of bacon fat and spice. Rich and full, the palate is swamped with ripe peach, crème brulee and honeycomb flavours. Some apricot and spice elements lie beneath with a creamy textural feel balanced by fresh acidity. The long, voluminous conclusion tinged with butterscotch.

    Matured for up to 15 months in a combination of new and seasoned French and American oak barrels. Dense inky black colour with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Nosing presents aromas of aniseed and dark plum followed by some gently smoked vanillin cedar, fennel and peppered earth notes. Rich juicy dark plum and liquorice fruits are complimented by some smoky vanillin cedar and peppered earth elements. Plush mouth feel with velvety tannins and a lengthy finish that has an opulent feel to it.

    Earns top marks for elegance at a (reasonably) tiny $25 price tag. Well defined, fine-edged tannins provide structure and the perfect background for the fruit and spice that follows in blackberry, red plum, clove, chocolate panforte, nutmeg and a wealth of lovely, indulgent spice. A good follow up to the elegant ’22 with well-handled, discreet oak a feature across the medium bodied palate. As with the ’22, the ’23 is more refined all round and good to see the price remains the same. Drink 2024-2031.

    Rich and mouth coating yet energetic with a long driving finish.

    In 2003, the Croser family removed 1.3 hectares of the original Tiers Vineyard Chardonnay that was planted in 1979 in the Piccadilly Valley as the first Adelaide Hills vineyard. The area was replanted with the French Bernard clones 76 and 95 on rootstocks, on very close 1.5 metre row spacing with the fruiting wire at only 0.5 metres above the ground. This unique vineyard section produces earlier ripening, fuller flavoured Chardonnay than the old vine Chardonnay on its own roots, across the centre road in Tiers Vineyard.
    Brilliant pale straw colour with green tinged edges and a watery hue. Delightful aromas of white peach and nectarine draped with dried honey sail through the nostrils trailed by some citrusy nougat, whiffs of crème brulee and delicate cashew notes. Rich, concentrated fleshy white peach, ripe nectarine, dried honey and citrusy nougat flavours engulf the palate with a mouth coating textural feel. Crème brulee, biscuit and delicate spicy cashew elements sit in the background. Showing outstanding drive, energetic acidity lends a fresh feel to the long, cream tinged finish.

    Fruit is picked from a close-planted block that was planted in '03. This is wonderful chardonnay – all finesse, tension, filigreed minerality, light, savoury undertones and pristine, bright green pear, nectarine and pink grapefruit freshness. Touches of nougat, sea spray and green almond in the mesh of characters here. A suggestion of flint and wet slate lend credence and complexity, too. Very precise and energetic, and extends long in flavour and persistence of minerality. Class act. Drink by 2035.

    From a close planted block established in 2003. Bernard clones 76 and 95. It’s distinctly different to the Tiers old vine Chardonnay as a result, and I tend to think it’s the clonal selection that’s the biggest point of difference.

    Pear, grapefruit, green banana, almond biscotti and spice, bread dough and some honey/floral perfume, with just a tiny bit of matchstick. It’s juicy and flavoursome, but tight in acidity, with a distinctly flinty texture, along with a creamy nougat richness, and a tight citrus finish of excellent length. Wonderful wine. Drink 2025-2034+

    The close spaced planting of this part of the Tiers vineyard imparts a slightly different flavour and textural feel to the Chardonnays from the old Tiers plantings. Intense aromas of tropical fruits, brioche and spices. The palate is ripe and textured although the chalky acid and light citrus edge hold the definition and line through to the long finish. Supremely balanced with the oak and fruit integration seamless and refined. Excellent wine. Drink 2025-2037.

    Juicy fruits with ripe, slightly chewy tannins, bright acidity and a fleshy spiced dried herb laced finish of ample length.

    From 60+ year old vines located just across the valley to the north of the winery not far from the famous windmill of Moulin a Vent. The vines here are east facing in granite soil and Moulin a Vent has a high presence of manganese which gives the wine its Moulin a Vent identity. This vineyard is slightly lower on the slope than his holding right in the centre of La Roilette (which sits adjacent to Moulin a Vent and which historically was considered part of Moulin a Vent), and close to the family winery less than 1km away. Always among the richest and deepest of wines with more structure and ageing capacity this cuvee is particularly successful in 2023 with the tannic structure of the wine well covered by the ripeness and fleshy generosity of the vintage. The harvest is all by hand with selection and sorting in the vineyard and winery. Maceration is carried out on 100% whole bunch fermenting semi-carbonic with indigenous yeasts lasting between 15 and 20 days on skins. The grapes are pressed then settled with fermentation continuing for 8 to 10 days, at 18 degrees to trigger the malolactic process. Aging lasts 18 months: 50% in 5-year-old oak barrels and 50% in vats.
    Deep dark red black tinged core with a dark red hue. Aromas of ripe strawberry and morello cherry infused with dried herbs mix with some earthy incense and spice like notes. Juicy morello cherry and strawberry fruits are interwoven with earthy dried herb and spicy incense like elements. Ripe, slightly chewy tannins with bright acidity and a fleshy spiced dried herb laced finish of ample length.

    A lovely, engaging riesling that is at once delicate while boasting impressive fruit concentration. Spring blossom and white florals join with lime citrus (pith, peel and juice) with hints of fresh alpine herbs. Well composed, lightly textured and chalky-fine, it is carried along on a super fresh acid line. Another good 'un from a top riesling maker.

    Rich, spicy and textural, this a remarkably powerful yet refined Chardonnay that shows a Burgundy like finesse and complexity.

    Located in the Piccadilly Valley within the Adelaide Hills region, Brian Croser’s Tiers vineyard was planted in 1979 making it the first in the region. It is perfectly suited to Chardonnay being a closely matched homo-clime of Burgundy, especially the southern end of the Cotes de Beaune where the great wines of Montrachet and Meursault are grown. Fermented in French oak barriques (one third new) the wine was then aged on full lees until November 2024.
    Brilliant very pale straw colour with highlights of green around the edges and a watery hue. Elevated white peach, pear and nectarine aromas flood the nostrils complimented by some subtle dried honey, biscuity nougat, cashew and infusions of gun flint.     The 2024 Tiers Vineyard Chardonnay always ratchets up the fruit power and intensity from all other Chardonnays, both at Tapanappa and in the Adelaide Hills region at large. This usually gives us a thundering display of concentration and phenolic drive, and this 2024 iteration is no exception to that long-established rule. There are notes of crushed and salted nuts, saffron, Golden Delicious apples, nougat and oyster shell/shale with a scintillating acid line. I still quietly wonder to myself if we are seeing these wines too young. However, it then becomes up to us to exercise some restraint when selecting our drinking windows. For me, this wine will be at its best a couple of years from now and into the long future ahead. May we all age so gracefully. 14.1% alcohol, sealed under screw cap. Drink 2027-2037.

    Erin Larkin – Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate

    This has to rank up there with the best of the Tiers Vineyard Chardies yet released. It was an ever so slightly warmer vintage than the previous and this is reflected in the depth and fruit concentration expressed with relative opulence. Lots of nectarine, and cashew with a spicy pear edge to it. The fine chalky acid really holds the tension ensuring a defined and exceptionally long finish. A dry savoury and tight subtle astringency on the finish provides the final flourish to an outstanding wine. Drink 2025-2037.

    Coming off a range of sites of older vines, this is a bold expression in the range, though the cooler year turns the volume down. The oak is French and American, with 25% new (down from 40% prior), but it leaves its thumbprint, with char, vanilla and clove spicing across a full and rich, though not overly saturated, canvas of brambly berry and plum fruits, along with a little salted chocolate. Built for a loyal cohort, this satisfies the brief. Drink by 2030.

    A medium bodied Chianti Classico that combines fabulous richness with a robust structure.

    Located in the commune of Radda, Piero Lanza and his sister, Benedetta, took over the estate from their father in the mid 1980’s and have extensively renovated the vineyards. The wines are typically full and rich yet retain beautiful elegance and perfumed fruit. They taste like Chianti should and they are always good, even in lesser years. The attention to detail in the vineyard verges on fanatical, with biodynamic farming, careful clonal selection, close planted vines, nitrogenous cover crops, extensive canopy management and hand picking to ensure the best possible combination of concentration, acidity and ripe tannins. Wild yeast fermentation, modern winemaking techniques and French oak for maturation complete the process. The resulting wine reflects these labours and is a beautifully balanced and perfumed style of Chianti.

    Once again, Poggerino’s Piero Lanza puts out one of the most successful annata of the vintage thus far. His 11 hectares in Radda sit mainly on Galestro soil with an underpinning of clay rather than sand, giving seriously structured wines. Dense fruit and spice greet the nose, with glossy dark red cherry, mint and cinnamon following through on the palate. Impressive substance is backed up by chewy, layered tannins, gracious rather than austere, dissolving slowly into the crunchy currants that draw out the finish. Vibrant and impressive.     We have featured this estate’s Reserve Shiraz many times over the years with great success. This wine is their flagship offering, matured for 18 months in new French oak hogsheads with only the very best barrels selected to make it into the final blend. From the outstanding 2018 vintage and with some decent bottle age behind it, this represents a terrific buy at half its normal price.

    A dense, large scaled Barossa Shiraz that’s decadently rich yet firmly structured.

    Totally impenetrable inky black heart with a very deep dark red black hue. Wafting out of the glass with great potency are dark to black plum, liquorice and black cherry scents which are trailed by some toasty vanillin oak, earthy mocha and spice notes. About as dense as a wine can get, the large scaled, blockbuster palate is saturated with decadently rich dark to black plum, liquorice and blackberry fruits which are firmly framed by a muscular tannin structure. Lending further interest are spicy vanillin oak, earthy mocha and subtle peppered fennel elements. Exceptionally concentrated and powerful, it concludes long and opulent yet maintains a robust feel.

    The fruit for the Estate Shiraz comes from their Gomersal Vineyard in the Barossa Valley with 12 days fermenting on skins and then a year and a half maturing in new French oak hogsheads. Barrel selection led to 705 six-packs. Again, cracking value and a real step up. A superb vintage which now has a few years under its belt, all adding to the complexity. Opaque magenta, the nose gives black fruits, mocha, dry herbs, chocolate, espresso and cassis. A little sweet oak is evident as well. This is beautifully structured, very long with silky cashmere tannins. There is focus, weight, balance and length here. Utterly delicious, to enjoy over the next eight to twelve years. Drink 2024-2036.

Rattray's chairman, Tim Morrison, played a key role in the history of Auchentoshan through its purchase in 1984 by Stanley P. Morrison (latterly Morrison Bowmore Distillers).     A first fill bourbon barrel offers accelerated wood impact compared with more widely used refill hogsheads, due to the richer oak, and higher surface-to-liquid ratio. Arguably, however, accelerated maturation is only possible with a robust style like the meaty make of Dailuaine. Its distillate is not easily overpowered and balances the vanilla sweetness with a profound savoury element. This example has keynotes of citrus fruit and sweet nuts. Cask 800471 yielded 241 bottles at a natural strength of 57.3% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.

    If unusual aromas and flavours are what you seek from a whisky, then single casks are the place to find them. Beyond the fruity esters and the softening sweetness imparted by oak that distillers like to amplify, seasoned drammers relish the road less travelled. Their eyes light up to the smell of sweaty leather or burlap sacks or birthday candles. Master distillers may cringe, yet these weird and wacky side notes are what keeps whisky interesting.     Reliably of high quality and only moderately peated, without the more medicinal elements of its counterparts on Islay, Ardmore is increasingly being given the spotlight by indies.     Collection 245 is the 5th release of the new multi-vintage cuvée which replaces the Brut Premier. The Collection 245 shares the same philosophy as the Jacquesson 7 series and Krug’s Edition wines, which are based on a younger vintage blended with some older reserve wines.
    Pours with an enthusiastically buoyant mousse which slowly dissipates into a pale straw coloured base that has an exceptionally fine bead flowing through it. Pear, baked bread and brioche like aromas sail through the nostrils with some citrus and yeast lees notes also evident. Stimulating pear, citrus and yeast lees flavours decorate the mouth with some baked bread and faint cashew in the background. (The trilogy of vintages in the collection are from the early ripening 2018, which is lighter and fruitier, the 2019, which is richer and more powerful, and the 2020, which is somewhere in between the other two.) The blend of the 245 is 41% Chardonnay, 33% Pinot Noir, and the rest Meunier. It has a reflective straw hue and offers notes of fresh almond, bread dough, and fresh flowers. Medium-bodied on the palate, with a fruity nature, it’s crunchy and fresh in the glass, with a lovely chalky texture, good refinement, a note of fresh nectarine, and a clean finish. Dry, but with a delicate rounded feel and some depth throughout, it opens to show more of its salinity and the delicate reductive smoke that frames the wine with oyster shell-like umami character. It’s approachable now but will age with ease.

    The NV Collection 245 is another stellar Champagne from Roederer. Apricot, white flowers, spice, white pepper and tangerine oil all open in the glass. This is a more open-knit style from Roederer. The blend is 41% Chardonnay, 35% Pinot Noir and 24% Meunier based in 2020, but with 35% reserve wines from a perpetual reserve of previous editions and 10% reserve wines in oak, meaning the base vintage is not particularly evident. Dosage is 7 grams per liter, but it feels a bit higher than that. Drink 2024-2034.

    Restrained green apple, lemon bush and lime, plus light brioche and chalk. Medium to full body with fine, nicely persistent bubbles and good substance on the mid-palate. Almost biting yet polished at the end, with long, refreshing acidity. Lacks a bit of complexity at the moment, but fresh. Best from 2025.

    You wouldn't believe it, but worldwide demand for ex-bourbon barrels far outstrips current supply, meaning a cherished style of single malt is under threat. Thankfully, Rattray have a few more of these Fetters' in the pipeline, as the honeyed sweetness from first-fill bourbon is just the perfect match for its distinctive tropical fruit flavours. Cask 1098 yielded 283 bottles at 57.3% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.

    Notes from the bottlers... Colour: Rich gold. Nose: Ripe mango, red apple peel and ginger oil. Palate: Clotted cream fudge, crystallised papaya and soft liquorice. Finish: Decadent dark chocolate mousse with a dusting of ground hazelnut.

    Particularly revered in Japan, in recent years, more effort has gone into marketing Glenburgie as a single malt and sales have increased significantly. Ex-bourbon wood is the perfect platform for this characterful Speyside spirit. The traits which make Glenburgie so highly-prized for blenders - aromatic and grassy, with orchard fruits, a cereal sweetness and oily mouthfeel – are all in abundance in this edition. No wonder it’s such a vital component of Ballantine’s, the world’s second biggest selling Scotch! Rattray's outturn was 308 bottles at 53% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.
    Other reviews... Colour: Shortbread gold. Nose: White peach, San Francisco sourdough and forced rhubarb. Palate: Golden linseed muesli, candied grapefruit and cantaloupe à la mode. Finish: Lemongrass and lime with a crisp white pepper pizzazz.

    Always an important contributor to the Bells blend, as a single we like Blair Athol with a bit of sherry, and in this case, the bottlers seem to feel likewise. In the interests of openness and transparency, Rattray aim to be as precise as possible on their labels, noting here a second maturation in 1st fill Oloroso for 34 months. What they couldn’t fit in is that the premium quality European oak finishing cask was seasoned for three years prior to filling. Dried fruits and a sweet nutty character are prevalent in this dram with 260 bottles making it to market. 54.9% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.

    Notes from the bottlers... Colour: Autumn leaf. Nose: Cherry and marzipan cake, sultana and raspberry coulis. Palate: Spiced bramble, dark chocolate and fresh Javan coffee. Finish: Rich, sticky date and raisin pudding, with a demerara caramel glaze.

    We can no longer claim Deanston as 'under the radar' as it's now well-established as a favourite among the hardcore in the Scotch whisky community. Their best whiskies almost defy categorisation, and the myriad of flavours encountered in this refill barrel make it suitably challenging to pin down. Rattray sum it up as "cereal and herbal". Bourbon barrel 800049 filled 208 bottles at 59.9% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.

    Notes from the bottlers... Colour: Soft gold. Nose: Torn sourdough, pink grapefruit and camphor oil. Palate: Barley sugar, green cardamom and crushed lemongrass. Finish: A complex medley of cereal, fruit, mineral, herbs and spices.

    Glenrothes is at its very best when it comes out of Bourbon wood with a massive age statement. In this case it was a refill hogshead. Given the steady rise in prices for malts of this ilk and category, Rattray's offering remains very reasonable. The maturation encompasses Diego Maradona’s magic in Mexico 1986 and Lionel Messi’s majesty in Qatar 2022. The whisky is elegant, bold, full of flair and "velvety signature of ultimate maturity." A celebratory dram befitting the most special occasions. The cask yielded 220 bottles. 42.1 Alc./Vol. Non-chill filtered.

    Notes from the bottlers... Colour: Sunset gold. Nose: Brazil nut, elderflower, mango and saffron. Palate: Juniper, bergamot oil, cacao nib and liquorice. Finish: Orange blossom honey and the unmistakable, velvety signature of ultimate maturity.

    Balblair is a characterful make that’s rarely in the spotlight. Here's a bit of a twist on one from an indie: Finished in a two year-seasoned, first-fill Oloroso sherry European oak butt for one year, following maturation in a refill sherry butt for over eleven years, this Balbalir is defined by dried fruit notes. European oak typically imparts a greater spice and depth of character than soft, sweet American oak. Drawn from a single bourbon hogshead at an intense ABV of 65.9%, cask 4191 filled 300 bottles. Non chill filtered.

    Aged for four years in tropical North Queensland before being sold on to a European rum broker where it has enjoyed a further five years of continental ageing. It was then chosen by Australian, Justin Boseley to be bottled as part of his Dead Reckoning line up. The aromas open slight and savoury until dried pineapple, hints of banana bread, cinnamon and light molasses pick up momentum in an appealing way. Starts grassy, natural; the mid palate quickly develops intensity and heat including flavours of butter menthol cough lozenges, vanilla, dried mango and pistachios. Finishes with a kick of alcohol, pleasantly bittersweet, medium-long and relatively elegant for all the mid palate power. Some minor rough edges, but overall feels confident, natural and unsweetened. 55% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered. 430 bottles produced.

    Since legendary US importer Kermit Lynch dubbed them the Gang of Four in the 1980's, wine collectors the world over have been searching for the precious few bottles of Beaujolais from Jean Foillard, Marcel Lapierre, Guy Breton, and Jean-Paul Thévenet. Each of these producers were inspired by the natural wine growing and wine making methods of local hero Jules Chauvet. Their aim is to help the unique Beaujolais terroir express itself with minimal intervention, harnessing old vines farmed with organic practices, fermentation with natural yeasts, along with limited use of sulphur. Together they have raised not only the profile of the region, but demonstrated that Beaujolais is more than just 'Nouveau' and can indeed produce meaningful, complex and wonderful wines.

    Along with his son Alex, Jean Foillard farms nearly fourteen hectares of vines planted mainly on the famed slopes of the Côte du Py in Morgon. As probably the most dependable of the Gang of Four, the wines of Jean Foillard are deep, structured, and complex, with a velvety lushness that makes them irresistible when young despite their aging potential. The wines are raised in older barrels sourced from top estates in Burgundy, including those from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, with the resulting efforts perhaps showing more in common with Chambolle-Musigny than what we've come to expect from 'regular' Beaujolais.

    The 2023 Morgon Côte du Py comes from several parcels of granite and schistous soils with many centurion vines. This has a wonderful, very complex bouquet with exquisite delineation: crushed stone filters through dark berry fruit alongside hints of ash and light stony scents. The sapid and vivacious palate has filigree tannins, a silver thread of acidity, and a touch of cracked black pepper towards the long finish. This is one of the best Morgons you can buy…but that's old news. Drink 2026-2040.
