2014 Eden Valley Riesling was picked hurriedly in early March. Heat waves and February rain became a positive in the end, with the flavour intensity of the Rieslings being outstanding. Brilliant water like colour with a light greenish tinge around the edges and a watery hue. The nose possesses very good intensity with lemon and lime notes dominate over some orange rind, light talc and mineral. The palate matches the intensity of the nose with vibrant lemon and lime flavours to the fore followed by orange rind and mineral with a crisp crunchy acid finish. Long aftertaste of lemon, lime and mineral.

Established in 1860 and purchased by the Purbrick family in 1925, Tahbilk has the world’s largest single holding of Marsanne, a grape that plays a major role in some of the worlds most famed white wines, those of Hermitage in Northern Rhone.
Brilliant pale straw colour with greenish tinged edges and a watery hue. Pronounced fresh pear, lime and honeysuckle scents jump from the glass with hints of spicy bees wax also evident. Intense and texturally rounded yet fresh, the palate features generous pear and lime fruits over a back drop of subtle honeysuckle and light cinnamon spice. Finishes dry with a fleshy medium to long aftertaste.
Delicious drinking now but with 5-6 years cellaring will reveal Marsanne’s classic aged rich toasty, marmalade and honeyed characters.

Tahbilk has made marsanne its own, the quality and style seemingly set in stone, or should I say steel. Citrus, apple and pear now, honeysuckle biding its time because it is certain to arrive in a year or 2, when the texture of the wine will be transformed. Drink by 2028.

This is a particularly fruity, fruit salad-y, open-for-business expression of Tahbilk Marsanne. It’s both pleasant and pleasing, but it’s also well balanced and tantalisingly persistent. You can go out now, no problems. But it can also be cellared with confidence. Drink 2020-2030+

Having tasted Tahbilk Marsannes at their release over the past 40+ years, I have gained the ability to be confident about the prospects of this label. It has Meyer lemon flavours, honeysuckle aromas and bright acidity all in balance. It will grow and grow in bottle - and in your estimation of its worth. Drink by 2039.

Should be on the wine equivalent of honour roll in Australia. Or maybe that’s the Langton’s Classification..?
Meanwhile, this is great to drink. Expected lean, racy style, just a little extra pool of lime-on-green-apple to finish taking the texture of the narrow train tracks, a come-hither mouth-watering close to a lean, racy, refreshing drink. You can feel the tension, the quiet sizzle of acidity and minerally things, a touch of green mango in 2019 – it’s not all that complex yet but it is all up so refreshing and delicious. Some for the cellar, some for the yacht. Drink 2019-2030+

Vasse Felix’s take on Margaret River’s signature white blend is comprised 66% Semillon and 34% Sauvignon Blanc. For the 2018 vintage 58% of the wine was fermented under cool conditions using specially selected yeasts to ensure the varietal characters were accentuated, while 42% was permitted to ferment wild in tank contributing a softer/fuller mouthfeel.

A cracking deal on this intensely flavoured Margaret River classic.

Brilliant water like colour with a faint greenish tinge around the outskirts. Pronounced aromatics of herbaceous gooseberries, subtle passionfruit and citrus rise out of the glass with an overlay of grassy asparagus characters and faint capsicum end notes. Intense, mouth-watering flavours of ripe gooseberries, passionfruit and citrus combine over a back drop of herbaceous grassy characters and light spicy capsicum. Zingy finish with crisp acidity and a long persistent aftertaste. At this price it’s the perfect summer dry white.

The palate possesses excellent weight and intensity for its price point. Generous ripe white peach, subtle apricot, dried honey and melon flavours are wrapped up in a texturally full and rounded mouthfeel.
