A pure, potent and charismatic riesling of intensity and drive. Loaded with briny minerality and wound tightly with green apple and grapefruit zestiness. Opens with fruit characters married to wet fern, ozone and sea spray notes, the palate likewise apple-meets-grapefruit with flinty mineral elements. Flavours extend long and tightly packed with great concentration of fruit, spice and mineral elements. Overall, feels high quality while positing high drinkability. A winner. Drink by 2035.

From the most outstanding single block of the vintage, planted 1996. Made by Phil Lehmann. A contrasting mood to Eden Hall's Springton, the intensity and tension of the season is encapsulated here. Spicy, wild lemon, lime and Granny Smith apple fill an expansive and generous style, holding a finish of considerable drive, persistence and promise. It holds both the richness and breadth for immediate appeal and the cool, focused acid energy to go long. Drink by 2030.

Leo Buring Leonay. The mention of that name is enough to get any riesling lover standing to attention. Named after winemaker and the rather awesomely monikered Leo Buring Hermann Paul Leopold Buring. Anyone that has said "Winemaking isn't a matter of life or death – it's much more important than that!" is OK by me. The wine is a singularity of limey goodness. Bickford's lime cordial, freshly squeezed lime juice and green apple sorbet with hints of Christmas lily, clover blossom, crushed quartz and lemongrass. Precise and focused with a tubular core pushed across the palate by fine, vivid acidity with an umami blush on the exit. If there was a Mount Rushmore for Aussie riesling, old Leo's smiling face would be the first to be chiseled into the granite. Drink by 2040.

A multi vintage blend of Viognier, Semillon and Riesling. The Viognier and Semillon components were matured in Maidenni dry vermouth barrels for 12 months then freshened up with a touch of new vintage Riesling. Bright straw colour with a touch of brassy gold around the edges. On the nose any varietal characters have been overtaken by Vermouth infusions from its time in barrel displaying lifted notes of dried herbs, clove, dried flowers, bay leaf and spice. Richly textured with a viscous mouthfeel and some heat on the finish, the vermouth influence is again dominate. Flavours of various herbs, clove and dried nuts finishing dry, slightly bitter and very spicy. Aftertaste of dried clove, various herbs, a bitter nuttiness and spice. An oddity.

In 1979 Mike Peterkin produced Australia’s first Semillon Sauvignon Blanc. Working at Cullen’s at the time, the wine went on to win a trophy at the Perth Royal Show. He never claimed any originality for the idea, he simply borrowed it from the French. In 1980 he was so convinced of the blend’s potential in Margaret River he devoted a third of the Pierro plantings to the varieties.
The 2023 L.T.C. is made up of 50% Semillon, 43% Sauvignon Blanc and 7% Chardonnay. Twenty five percent of the blend was fermented and matured in new and one & two year-old French oak barrels for a period of 2-3 months with the balance fermented and matured in stainless steel.
Brilliant water like colour with a distinct greenish tint to the edges. Intense passionfruit, lime and green apple scents burst out of the glass trailed by some delicate white peach and subtle grassy notes. Scrumptious passionfruit, green apple, lime and fleshy white peach fruits are underscored by mouth watering acidity. 50/43/7% semillon/sauvignon blanc/chardonnay. There’s a lot of energy and drive to this blend – it works so well. Enticing with its lemon-lime flavours, lemon zest and freshly sliced ginger/galangal. Some texture across the otherwise linear palate, electrifying acidity seals the deal.

It’s Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc, with a little touch of Chardonnay.

Lime, lime rind, white pepper, aniseed, sweet snapped snow pea, some cream and spice. It’s bright, pops with mixed citrus of some sweetness and intensity, has some flinty texture, a kiss of dried herbs, a subtle saline character, and finishes long and crisp. Such a pleasing and refreshing wine. Lovely. Drink 2024 - 2031+

Such a good year for white varieties and this consistently first-rate wine has delivered again, but with the addition of even more natural crunchy vibrant fruit thanks to the vintage. The palate is more intense than previous vintages but still with that structure and precision that comes with the approach of using a combination of semillon and sauvignon, with a light touch of chardonnay. This really is a terrific wine. A cracker.

2024 is officially the 60th anniversary of the planting of Drumborg vineyard. A truly wonderful milestone! A terrific wine, too, opening with focused aromas of lemon sherbet, pink grapefruit, makrut lime and orange blossom. The palate is just as focused and pure fruited, with the wine's 3.6g/L residual sugar perfectly balanced by its mouth-watering acidity. Philip Rich – James Halliday’s Australian Wine Companion

What a fitting, beautifully aromatic wine to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the planting of the Drumborg vineyard! The decision to plant Riesling in the ultra-cool Drumborg district all those decades ago was truly ahead of its time and has been rewarded year after year with a wine that celebrates the heady, floral aromatics of the variety, while also rewarding substantial cellaring.  Spring flowers, so engaging, with the lifted scent of wildflowers, citrus blossom, apple, lemon, lime and grapefruit zest beckons from the glass.  Against a strong core of lime, lemon and Delicious apple and with just a hint of Asian fruits, the wine lights up in bright, zingy acidity . . . just like sucking on a Mayer lemon with great balance throughout. A fine Riesling by any measure. Drink 2024-2034.

Tasted from a special magnum commemorating the 10th anniversary of this sub-regional release. The fruit is from several vineyard sources, with some of the material dating back to plantings from 1975. Quintessential Clare Valley riffs on Rose’s lime juice, quince paste, tonic, preserved lemon rind, wild fennel and gardenias. Dry and medium-bodied by virtue of the sheer extract and density of the mouthfeel. Yet despite the dryness, there is nothing hard. Tactile and impressively juicy across a tenacious finish. Impressive. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

The DJW vineyard was planted by John and son Daniel Wilson in 1997. At the time, the aim was to produce additional fruit for the successful Wilson Polish Hill River Riesling but the vineyard had other ideas. From the first vintage it was immediately obvious that the DJW vineyard was quite different from the Polish Hill River vineyard. The grapes and bunches were larger and the vineyard produced a spectrum of flavours that had their own unique qualities. As a consequence a new Riesling was born and was named after the single vineyard from where it originates, the DJW.
Brilliant water like core with highlights of green around the outskirts. Intense lime juice, lemon and orange rind aromas bound out of the glass with terrific intensity complimented by some talc, green apple and slatey mineral notes. Engulfing the mouth watering palate are concentrated lime juice and citrus flavours which are wrapped up in a chalky texture that carries plenty of volume. Engaging chalky talc, orange rind, wet steel and flinty mineral elements lie underneath. Zingy acidity with a long forceful and highly energised finish.

Wilson’s Polish Hill River Riesling is sourced from their oldest vineyards planted over 40 years ago. Its miniscule yields typically produce a wine rich in citrus fruits within a steely structure, tight with lots of minerality. Beneath the iron stained clay lies a bed of decomposing slate and scattered quartz. It’s also not unusual to find remnant pottery and agricultural implements from the Polish Settlers who once lived and farmed the area now planted to this small vineyard.

A stunning Polish Hill Riesling that has intense, mouth filling flavours sculptured by chiselled acidity.

Brilliant very pale straw colour with gleaming green tinged edges and a watery hue. Powerful aromatics of lime, lemon and Granny Smith apple engulf the olfactory senses complimented by wet steel, subtle chalky talc like notes and minerals. Racy lime, citrus and to a lesser extent orange rind flavours are delivered with magnificent concentration, stunning drive and show a real textural presence within a chiselled structure. Green apple, wet steel and chalky mineral elements also chime in. Threading the enormous volume of fruit is crunchy mineral infused acidity which provides a steely backbone. The finish exceptionally long, mouth filling and intense.
