Hen & Chicken' is a disorder that's been linked to mineral deficiency. In wine-growing parlance, a chicken is a small, stunted berry, while a hen is a normal berry, one that will grow to luscious maturity and provide a burst of full-flavoured juice when it's squeezed. Evidently, winemaker Larry Cherubino, has spent some time on the sorting table for this wine! Aged in a combination of new and two year old French oak for a period of 6 month.
Bright straw colour with a distinct glimmer of green running around the outskirts and a watery hue. Lifted white peach and nectarine scents are intermeshed with dried honey and hints of cinnamon which are trailed by lightly roasted almond and spice notes. Mouthfilling flavours of ripe nectarine and pear shaded by a touch of grapefruit overlay cinnamon, subtlety honeyed almond like characters and spice. Excellent concentration and drive. Rich, creamy like textural feel finishing fresh with a long highly delectable aftertaste.

                                    Other Reviews....
Rivar Ferguson-Mayer at the helm with fruit coming from the Yarra floor. Curious harvest season with a niggling rain period making things stop start a bit. Anyways, this is pleasing gear.
Perfume kicks off with oatmeal and marzipan scents, some green apple, ripe lime and green pear too. Sloshy, pear and apple juice to taste, licks of nougat, cinnamon spice, some brioche and a fresh, limey finish. Lots of good energy here, plus interest and general sense of quality, whatever that might mean. It’s a very good wine. Drink 2021 - 2030.

Comes from Bream Creek's 44yo riesling vines, believed to be the oldest in Tasmania. It is already flaunting its wares with titratable acidity of 8.2g/l and residual sugar of 7.3g/l. It simply ratchets up the power of all in the inputs, and will give pleasure when very young or very old - and any point along the way. Drink by 2038.

James Halliday – Australian Wine Companion

Bream Creek has been around since the 1970s and the Reserve Old Vine Riesling is made from the first plantings in 1974.
Older vines should bring intensity and focus and that is exactly what is happening here. The green apple is a focused Bramley apple, lemon zest, sherbet, grapefruit curd, lemon blossom and fresh limes all are precise and intense. There is a hint of maturity in the kerosene and a silky richness to the vanilla notes but ultimately this is still so youthful with many years to come.  Quintessentially Tasmanian, this is a wine with a glorious sense of place and sense of self, delightful. Drink 2021-2031.

The name Bress originates from the well regarded ’Poulet de Bresse’ of Eastern France. These chickens are highly prized for their succulent flesh and impressive size. Fruit for this wine was sourced from three different vineyards in the Yarra Valley all at different altitudes. Low yields of between 1.5 to 2 tonnes per acre have produced a Chardonnay of excellent concentration. Fermented and matured in a mix of stainless steel and French oak hogsheads (40% new) with the tank component spending 6 months on lees.
Bright straw colour with a touch of green to the edges and a watery hue. Pronounced ripe peach, honeycomb and apricot aromas jump out of the glass complexed by notions of bacon fat, butterscotch and crème brulee. Rich, full and very concentrated the palate is engulfed with luscious peach and apricot fruits which are accompanied by notions of honeycomb, bacon fat and crème brulee. Spicy finish with nicely balanced acidity complimenting the rich creamy texture. Medium to long spicy aftertaste.

Due to the bushfires on the east coast of Australia in 2020 Brokenwood was unable to pick any fruit from their Beechworth Indigo vineyard. As a result fruit was sourced from Margaret River and South-West Western Australia to produce this wine with maturation taking place in French oak barriques. Brilliant very pale straw colour with a subtle tinge of green around the outskirts and a watery hue. Rising out of the glass are elevated scents of white peach, ripe nectarine and dried honey followed by some citrusy nougat characters and light biscuity oak notes. Possessing terrific intensity and a nicely rounded feel, driving the palate are rich fleshy white peach, nectarine and dried honey flavours with citrusy nougat characters, faint cashew and spice flowing onto the back half. Excellent freshness with a long textured aftertaste.

Fermented to very low residual sugar (1.2g/l) its acidity is obvious and mouthwatering, and adds a bold swagger to the palate. Extreme length. Will richly repay patience. Drink by 2032.

This had identical vinification to its sibling until the end of fermentation. It was then passed over (or through) gewurztraminer skins, resulting in a floral rose petal and sweet spice bouquet and a lively, pleasingly grippy palate. The chemical analysis of the wines are identical, both are made to drink now with food, no cellaring needed.

Brilliant water like core with greenish tinged edges. Aromas of lime, orange zest and lemon mix with chalky talc like notes and a subtle steeliness. Showing great precision the palate is bursting with intense lime and lemon flavours which are underpinned by searing acidity. Green apple, delicate orange rind, wet steel and flinty mineral characters present themselves on the back half. Outstanding power finishing dry with a long sharply focused aftertaste. Superb.

Loads of floral perfume, preserved lemon, pretty talc scents, a bit of warm river pebble, lime juice. Delicate in the palate, more lime juice here, tart and with great energy, crispness, cool herbal notes, some chalky pucker and endless mouth-watering length. Tightly wound but slightly juicy, if you get the drift. Beautiful expression, high toned saline mineral acidity, refreshing now to the max, will last a generation. Drink 2021-2040+

The palate has real intensity and depth with a vivid citrus and white-peach fruit drive. Snaps dry and the flavors hold pure and long. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

Lemon and lime juice aromatics burst out of the glass trailed by notions of green apple, subtle orange rind and talcy mineral notes. Racy lime juice and lemon flavours are backed by fresh crunchy acidity with green apple, orange rind, light talc and steely mineral characters also present. Dry and zesty with a long precise finish.

Top notes of lime and citrus meld into oily lemon butter like notes, light toast and wet steel. Intense lime and citrus fruits have a steely underbelly with elements of toast, subtle kerosene, lemon butter and flinty mineral characters also chiming in. Apple and lemon blossom fragrance sets the scene for a particularly elegant and focused palate; while still in a primary phase, and very delicate, it has utterly perfect line, length and balance. Brilliant very pale straw colour with distinct highlights of green around the outskirts and a watery hue. Elevated white peach and nectarine aromas mix with melon, biscuity oak, subtle lemon butter and spice. Mid weighted, fleshy peach and ripe nectarine fruits show ample intensity over a subtle dried honey, nougat and biscuity oak back drop. Good volume in the mouth finishing fresh with a long expansive aftertaste that sees a dash of spice emerge.

Jumping out of the glass are intense lime, citrus and orange rind scents followed by hints of green apple and talc. Very concentrated and textured the palate is engulfed with mouth watering lime and citrus fruits which are sprawled over a back drop of orange rind, talc and minerals. Crunchy acidity backs the fruit. Fantastic power with a long tangy aftertaste.

Brilliant very pale straw colour with flashes of green to the edges and a watery hue. Nosing offers up aromas of pear, lime and quince which mix with hints of musk and faint honeysuckle. Rich, intense and beautifully rounded in the mouth, the palate is engulfed with ripe pear, musk and red apple fruits which interact with traces of spicy quince. Dry and refreshing it finishes with vibrant acidity and a long scrumptious aftertaste.

This is pure, pristine, texturally edgy, and layered with all the good things: sheepy lanolin, beeswax, apricots at the height of summer, green apple, crushed limestone and saline acidity. It has rivulets of flavour that course over the tongue ... it's brilliant. Finesse and poise from such a warm part of town, very impressive. Drink by 2036.

Tight, juicy, pear skin and lemon peel, bright acidity, powdery with a talc-like perfume, saline and fresh, with a dusty chalky finish of fine length. Hot climate wine, from a hot vintage, laying it on cool. Excellent. So excellent.  This is a banger. Drink 2021-2029+

Not fined. So youthful, so fresh in a squeezed juice kind of way. Lemon jelly crystals, lemon drop, grapefruit pith, orange peel, lime blossom, in scent and on the palate. Nice texture in building phase. But, as usual, the co-star with equal billing in this production is the crunchy, tangy acidity. Drink by 2031.

Bright pale straw colour with flecks of green around the outskirts and a watery hue. Expressive lime and green apple aromas have a subtle fresh herb overlay with some faint citrusy bees wax like notes and a hint of grassiness also present. Texturally full with a silken like feel in the mouth, the palate is blessed with intense lime and pear fruits which are intermeshed with subtle dried herbs, bees wax and very light pencil shavings. Finishes dry and fresh with vibrant acidity and a long aftertaste that sees traces of herbaceous characters creep in.

Brilliant pale straw colour with greenish tinged edges and a watery hue. Lifted citrus, green apple and subtle passionfruit scents are complexed by light pencilly cedar, herbaceous grassy notes and spice. Vibrant and energetic yet beautifully rounded texturally, the palate is layered with passionfruit, lime and green apple fruits that have some subtle herbaceous overtones. Delicate pencilly cedar and stony mineral characters lie on the back half. Finishes dry with a pinch of spice and long textural aftertaste.
