Aromas of fresh bread, crisp orchard fruit, citrus oil, clear honey and oyster shell introduce Bouchard's 2016 Blanc de Noirs Les Ursules, a medium to full-bodied, beautifully precise and tensile rendition of this emblematic cuvée. Fine-boned and elegant, it's seamless and penetrating. This an especially delicate Ursules that will reward some bottle age.

The 2016 Blanc de Noirs Les Ursules is a dense, powerful wine. Next to the Presle, it is deeper, richer and also more packed. Most of Bouchard's Champagnes need a few years in bottle to blossom. That is certainly the case here. The 2016 is impressive, but it needs time. As always, this tiny parcel measuring just 0.9 hectares yields a layered Blancs de Noirs with notable resonance and character. Zero dosage. Disgorged: April, 2020.

The 2016 Blanc de Blancs La Haute Lemblé has turned out brilliantly, unwinding in the glass with scents of crisp green apple, blanched almonds, white flowers, crushed chalk and nutmeg. Medium to full-bodied, taut and incisive, with a racy spine of acidity and a concentrated, tightly wound core, it's long and penetrating, concluding with a mineral, mandarin-inflected finish. As readers will remember, this series is from a 0.11-hectare south-facing plot planted with five different massal selections of Chardonnay.

The 2016 Blanc de Blancs La Haute Lemblé is a beautiful wine. In this vintage, the Haute Lemblé is a bit more tropical than it often is. Time in the glass brings out hints of passion fruit and white flowers. Bright and energetic, with terrific focus, the Haute Lemblé is also a bit more open-knit in the early going than it can be. I doubt that will be much of an issue given that most bottles disappear from the market and are enjoyed almost as soon as they are released. Zero dosage. Disgorged: April, 2020.

The 2015 Blanc de Blancs La Haute Lemblé is one of the very best editions I have ever tasted. Beautifully focused, the 2015 dazzles with its richness, power and tension. A mélange of crushed rocks, mint, white pepper, smoke and citrus infuses the 2015 with crystalline intensity. The purity of the Chardonnay fruit is just remarkable. All of the elements build to a heady crescendo of aromas, flavors and textures. Racy and explosive, the 2015 Haute Lemblé dazzles from the very first taste. A few years of cellaring will help the 2015 be at its very best, although it is utterly breathtaking even in the early going. No dosage. Disgorged: April, 2019.

The newly released 2012 Blanc de Noirs Côte de Béchalin is another magical Champagne from Cédric Bouchard, its southwest exposition issuing in a riper range of aromas than the north-facing Ursules—including honeycomb, peach, green mango and red apple—as well as more mid-palate volume. Full-bodied, textural and enveloping, it's rich and vinous, with a generous core of fruit, racy acids and a bright, chalky finish. Still an infant, this will reward further bottle age.

The 2012 Blanc de Noirs Côte de Bechalin La Parcelle is bright, precise and beautifully lifted. Orchard fruit, mint, white pepper and floral notes lend brightness. This is a decidedly taut, vibrant Blanc de Noirs, especially considering the vintage. Gracious, medium in body and supremely inviting, the Côte de Bechalin is another stellar wine in this set of new releases. No dosage. Disgorged: April, 2019.

Bouchard's newly released NV Blanc de Noirs Côte de Val Vilaine (2017) has turned out brilliantly, offering up a deep bouquet of green pear, freshly baked bread, honeycomb and citrus oil. Medium to full-bodied, enveloping but incisive, it's built around a bright spine of acidity and a concentrated core of ripe but beautifully vibrant fruit. The 2017 is a bit racier but also a touch less concentrated than the 2016 rendition, a wine that would get my nod as the best Val Vilaine to date.

William Kelley - Wine Advocate #248 (May 2020)

Bouchard’s Blanc de Noirs Val Vilaine is especially strong in 2017 and also a fabulous introduction to this range of magnificent Champagnes. Beautifully resonant and inviting, the 2017 is so gorgeous. Pear, baked apple, dried flowers, mint and spice all build as the 2017 opens up in the glass. More than anything else, the 2017 impresses with its poise and raciness. The slightly reductive character found in some previous releases is not present in the 2017, and that really lets the purity of the fruit shine through. Bouchard does not push this site to the degree he does most of his other vineyards, so the Val Vilaine doesn’t quite offer the complexity of the top wines here, but words really can’t do justice to just how delicious the 2017 is. Don’t miss it. No dosage. Disgorged: April, 2019.

The 2015 Blanc de Noirs Les Ursules is fascinating to taste next to the other Pinot Champagnes, all of which are brighter. Here, the weight and gravitas are very much front and center. Red cherry, kirsch, plum, mint and spice all blossom in the glass. The Ursules needs air to shine. A bit of time in the glass really brings out the creaminess and volume of the Pinot fruit. This is such an inviting and expressive Champagne. No dosage. Disgorged: April, 2019.

The 2015 Blanc de Noirs Presle emerges from a tiny parcel planted with ten different Burgundy clones of Pinot Noir. Brisk, nuanced and finely sculpted to the core, the Presle is pure class. Orchard fruit, red plum, mint and wild flowers are all beautifully sketched. The breadth of Pinot comes through in the wine’s textural resonance and overall feel. Tropical overtones add an exotic flair to this wonderfully distinctive and inviting Champagne from Cédric Bouchard. I especially admire the wine’s brisk, energetic feel and super-precise expression of Pinot. No dosage. Disgorged: April, 2019.

The 2016 Blanc de Noirs Val Vilaine is gorgeous in this vintage. Ample and creamy on the palate, with tremendous textural richness, the 2016 dazzles from start to finish. I can't remember a vintage of the Val Vilaine that was this complete and harmonious. Moreover, the Val Vilaine is a terrific introduction to Cédric Bouchard and his wines, especially for readers who can't find some of the more smaller-production cuvées. Non-dosé. The 2011 Blanc de Noirs Côte de Bechalin is a very beautiful wine, especially within the context of this challenging vintage. Yellow orchard fruit, chamomile, wild flowers and lightly honeyed notes all grace this pretty, expressive Champagne. The 2011 is already beginning to show tropical overtones and other notes that indicate it is close to peaking. For that reason, I would prefer to drink it sooner rather than later. Non-dosé. Located in Venteuil, Vallee de la Marne, the Marniquet family set out to make Champagne under their own name in 1929. The poor prices offered to growers in those days by the "grande maisons" were such that it only made sense for growers to follow a move initiated in 1911 during the revolts of Champagne, and attempt to carve their own piece of the market.
The originality of the Chaines dÈtoiles Brut Reserve resides in a higher proportion of Pinot Meunier that accounts for 50% of the varietals in this Champagne, Chardonnay being 35% and 15% of Pinot Noir. The Meunier contributes greatly to the uplifted aromatics while the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir lend freshness and structure to the blend. Aged in bottle for an average of 3 years, this lands at a remarkable price point for quality Champagne into Australia.

Pours with a white creamy mousse that shows good hold. Pale gold base wine colour with exceptionally fine and persistent bead. Superb classic Champagne sniff revealing notes of baked bread, yeast lees and toast followed by some almond end notes. Full flavoured and quite rich the palate delivers mouthfilling flavours of yeast lees, toast, baked bread and brioche with the toasty yeast like characters persisting onto the back palate. Almost creamy like texture with clean crisp dry finish. Excellent depth with long toasty, yeast lees and baked bread aftertaste.
Drink over the next 2-3 years (2012-2015).

Yes, I marvelled at the continuing availability of this wine in last year’s Top 100, changing to disbelief this year. Yet there aren’t any tricks other than the perpetual youth of the wine, not released until 2010. It has a stunningly complex, gloriously rich, almost unctuous, mid-palate, yet steps up a gear with the twist of citrus peel on the finish before the lingering aftertaste takes you back over all that has gone before. If you question the perpetual youth of the wine, try to find the Blanc des Millenairs 1983, released after 30 years’ maturation.

The 1995 Brut Blanc des Millenaires shows just how compelling this often overlooked vintage can be. Layers of lemon, pastry spices, crushed rocks and savory herbs literally jump from the glass in this exquisite, perfumed, beautifully delineated Champagne. The 1995 shows lovely flavor complexity and nuance from its extended time in bottle, yet it also retains plenty of freshness, verve and acidity. This is a great showing from Charles Heidsieck. The 1995 was made before the tenure of the house's current team, headed by CEO Cécile Bonnefond. It will be very interesting to see what develops at this historic property over the coming years.

Deep, pure and fresh on the fruit-intense and complex nose, the 1995 Blanc des Millenaires is still young and incredibly fresh on the palate. This is refreshingly pure, concentrated, fruity and perfectly round Champagne that reveals a great tension and mineral complexity. It also has a long and salty finish. Keep it for ten or 20 years.

From Champagne's most obscure appellation comes a collection of idiosyncratic cuvees, produced by one of the last remaining family-run houses in Champagne. This delightful new discovery is your opportunity to take part in a very limited trial shipment. Be quick

The Moutard-Diligent family can trace its roots in Champagne back to 1642 and their vinegrowing history spans centuries. The family first produced Champagne under its own name in the 1920s, and today manages 22 hectares of family owned vineyards in what is the least known of Champagnes four main districts, the Côte des Bar (also known as 'Aube'). Until 1927 when the Champagne appellation came into being, the Cote de Bar was thought to be an inferior sub district, bestowed with the somewhat misrepresentative title of "Champagne Deuxieme Zone". Yet many prestigious Grande Marque houses based in Reims and Epernay have used Cote de Bar grapes in their non vintage brands. UK wine writer, Oz Clarke remarks, "Nowadays there is less ill-informed opinion and winemakers from the big houses are increasingly open about the merits of the region... It is considered one of Champagnes most important sources of full flavoured, ripe Pinot grapes (its major varietal) and it accounts for around half of Champagnes supply of this varietal". While most Cote des Bar vignerons continue to send their wines north for blending by the biggest houses, others are beginning to bottle under their own labels. One of these is Moutard's owner/winemaker, François Moutard who remains an unashamed enthusiast for the region in which he was born. Apart from both buying and growing premium Chardonnay, Pinot Noir & Pinot Meunier fruit, Moutard's fascinating range employs the lesser known Champagne varietals, Arbanne, Petit Meslier and Pinot Blanc. While these varieties are permitted and were once largely planted around Aube, they're now rarely encountered in Champagne (less than .05% of total plantings), having fallen out of favour due to their sensitivity to frost, amongst other factors. Tasting Notes: The wine starts with an impressive mousse, very fine bead, with very good persistence. Deep straw base wine. Superb developed nose of biscuit, honey, toast and amontillado. Creamy palate texture, with flavours of toast, honey, hazelnut and biscuit – again showing bottle age. There is a touch of lemon on the back palate. Clean acid finish. Aftertaste of biscuit and hazelnut. Extremely limited quantities

The 2008 Brut Millésimé from Charles Hedsieck continues to perform superbly, opening in the glass with a youthfully reserved bouquet of pear, yellow apple, citrus oil, honeycomb, dried white flowers and warm biscuits. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and incisive, with a racy spine of acidity, a pinpoint mousse, excellent concentration and a long, elegantly chalky finish. This 2008 is still several years from showing all its cards, but it is a brilliant Champagne in the making.

Dense nose and obvious evolution. More evolved in fact than many 2008s. Creamy rather than angular. Light toast. Lively but not as punchy as some other 2008s.

Disgorged in November 2017 after 13 years on the lees, the stunning 2004 Blanc des Millénaires is a worthy successor to the 1995. Unfurling in the glass with aromas of green apple, pear, brioche and fresh pastry that are framed by a lovely smoky, autolytic top note, the wine is full-bodied, ample and concentrated, with ripe acids, superb depth at the core and a textural, vinous quality while remaining very classical in profile. The finish is long and expansive. A blend of Chardonnay from Cramant, Avize, Oger, Mesnil-sur-Oger and Vertus, it saw nine grams per liter dosage. This is a terrific blanc de blancs from Charles Heidsieck that has a long and glorious future ahead of it. Sadly, the price of this cuvée has finally caught up with the quality.

Laid in chalk cellars in 2006 and disgorged in 2015. Pours with a frothy white mousse that shows excellent hold over a pale gold straw coloured base that’s threaded by a very fine, persistent stream of tiny bubbles. The nose is both complex and intense offering up rich aromatics of baked bread and yeast lees followed by citrusy dried honey notes, brioche and hints of almonds. Rich, deep and full bodied with a creamy textural feel the palate boasts mouthfilling flavours of baked bread, oily toast like characters and yeast lees which sit over honeyed cashews and roasted almonds. Finishes dry with stimulating acidity and a long baked bread, yeast lees, oily toast, honeyed cashew and roasted almond aftertaste.

Derived exclusively from the 2013 vintage, the stunning NV Extra Brut Blanc de Noirs Orizeaux offers up a lovely bouquet of lemon oil, mandarin, crisp yellow apple, ginger and Chartreuse botanicals, followed by a medium to full-bodied, vinous but incisive palate built around a bright spine of acidity and distinguished by strikingly sapid, saline nuances, concluding with a long, mordant finish.

The NV Cuvee Orizeaux (2013), 100% Pinot Noir, is rich, resonant and super-expressive. The weight of Pinot comes through loud and clear, with beams of minerality that shine through the fruit, adding palpable vibrancy. A wine of vinous intensity and texture, the Orizeaux will be at its best at the dinner table. Red berry, honey and hazenut linger on the creamy finish. Disgorged: June: 2018.

Henriet-Bazin origins date back 5 generations to two families both deeply rooted in Champagne. The Bazin family were grape growers from the village of Verzenay whilst the Henriet family specialised in Champagne production. It was in the late 19th century that the two families united through marriage and today a father and daughter team are producing a range of outstanding champagnes from Grand Cru and Premier Cru vineyards. The family own 3 hectares in Verzenay and Verzy (both Grand Cru villages) renowned for its Pinot Noir that’s so highly sought after by the likes of top Champagne houses such as Krug.

A blend of 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay sourced from Grand Cru vineyards located in Verzenay and Verzy. Pours with a heady white mousse that shows good hold. A pale straw coloured base with pale gold edgings is finely threaded by a very persistent bead. The intensely scented nose offers up rich aromatics of baked bread, yeast lees and toast overlaid by dried honey characters followed by cashew and hints of citrus. Rich, full bodied and totally mouthfilling the creamy textured palate is filled with yeast lees, bready characters and honeyed toast flavours which meld into a back drop of citrus oils and roasted almonds. Dry, slightly oily yet crisp finish. Outstanding concentration and power with a long baked bread, yeast lees, oily toast, dried honey, citrus and roasted almond aftertaste.

A worthy successor to the super 2008, Delamotte's 2012 Blanc de Blancs is performing very well—despite the fact that it was disgorged as recently as June 2019. Opening in the glass with aromas of citrus oil, dried white flowers, smoke and wheat toast, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with a bright girdle of acidity, well-integrated dosage and a fine mousse, the muscularity of the vintage rendered with uncommon finesse. While this is quite expressive for such a recently disgorged vintage Delamotte, the rewards of even only a few years' patience will be considerable.

Delamotte’s 2012 Brut Vintage is rich, creamy and super-expressive. This is only the second vintage (the first was 2008) in which fruit from Oiry rounds out the classic core of Le Mesnil, Oger and Cramant that forms the backbone of the Vintage. Dried pear, white flowers, chamomile and mint are some of the notes that grace this exquisite understated Blanc de Blancs. The 2012 offers terrific depth and textural resonance in a creamy, expressive style that captures the radiant personality of the year and the understated, quiet voice that is such a Delamotte signature.

Unfortunately there is only one new release from Dom Perignon this year. The 2003 is one of the most unusual Dom Perignons I have ever tasted, going back to 1952. Readers will remember that 2003 was a torrid vintage across northern Europe, especially during the critical month of August, when temperatures remained very hot for well over a month. The harvest was the earliest on record, until 2011, that is. I suppose its not that surprising Chef de Caves Richard Geoffroy chose to make a 2003 Dom Perignon, given his penchant for risk-taking, an approach that has yielded so many memorable wines that stretch the perception of what big brand Champagne is and can be. The 2003 Dom Perignon is a big, broad shouldered wine. It does not have the seductiveness of the 2000, nor the power of the 2002. It is instead very much its own wine. In 2003 Geoffroy elected to use more Pinot Noir than is typically the case, and that comes through in the wine’s breath and volume. The 2003 is a big, powerful Champagne that will require quite a bit of time to shed some of its baby fat. The trademark textural finesse is there, though. I expect the 2003 to be a highly divisive Champagne because of its extreme personality, but then again, many of the world’s legendary wines were made from vintages considered freakish at the time. The 2003 is an atypically, rich, powerful, vinous Dom Perignon loaded with fruit, structure and personality. It is not for the timid, but rather it is a wine for those who can be patient. No one has a crystal ball, but personally I will not be surprised if in 20 years’ time the 2003 is considered an iconic Champagne. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2038.

I am a no-holds-barred Dom addict, but I have to admit to being somewhat disappointed with the '99 vintage, which seemed altogether too delicate, verging on outright simplicity. I have no such reservations about the 2000 vintage, which has the Dom hallmark fluid line and feline grace encouraging the rapid consumption of glass after glass. Along the way you will find notes of nectarine, cherry, brioche and cream, which build into a gloriously long and even finish. It will continue to develop in bottle for decades to come.

It’s shocking that Dom is so far below price leadership. Two (of many) reasons are its sheer volume produced, and the confusion of five to seven vintages on current release. In the midst of this the new vintage sails calmly on, supple, delicate and long, and oh so easy to enjoy.

The 2004 vintage was defined by the dry heat experienced in the Champagne region over the final weeks before harvest, contributing to wonderful ripeness in the grapes. According to Chef de Cave, Richard Geoffroy,"...growing and fruit ripening periods went by smoothly, with no difficulties - a phenomenon that we have rarely, if ever, seen before".

Buoyant, fine and lacy the mousse holds well gradually subsiding to reveal a pale straw coloured base wine that has pale gold edges and an exceptionally fine and persistent bead flowing through it. Citrus, toast and yeast lees aromas jump from the glass trailed by pear, green apple and light biscuit notes. Refined and elegant yet long, the palate is brimming with citrus and green pear fruits which overlay a back drop of yeast lees, green apple, oyster shell and faint cashew. There’s good tension and focus but this is not a Dom Perignon to drink now, it requires some further bottle age to fill out at which time it will no doubt garner another point or two. Concludes dry and racy with a gentle chalk tinged aftertaste.

The 2012 Dom Pérignon is a dense, powerful wine. I am almost shocked by its vinous intensity and raw, unbridled power. The 2012 reminds me of the 2003, but with more finesse and not quite as pushed. Mildew, rain and frost were challenges and resulted in low yields, something that was further compounded by warm, dry weather that concentrated the fruit even more. Those qualities result in a dense Dom Pérignon endowed with real phenolic intensity. It is one of the most reticent young Doms I can remember tasting, I wouldn’t even think of opening a bottle for at least a few years. (Originally published in May 2021). Drink 2022 - 2052.

Wonderful elegance and balance to this Dom Pérignon with cooked apple, lemon and hints of white pepper and salt. It’s medium-bodied with really fine bubbles and balance. Spicy at the end. So wonderfully fresh, linear and long. Racy and elegant. A DP that invites to drink right now. All about finesse. Tension, too, with precise phenolics and bright acidity on the back palate. The 2012 Dom Pérignon has turned out very well indeed, unwinding in the glass with notes of Anjou pear, smoke, toasted nuts, freshly baked bread and crisp stone fruit. Medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, it's still tightly wound, its incipiently fleshy core of fruit framed by racy acids and chalky grip, complemented by a classy pinpoint mousse. A touch drier and a touch less reductive than the 2008 out of the gates, these two vintages are clearly destined to be compared for some time to come; but at this early stage, my instinct is that the 2012 will have the edge in the long term. This eloquent Champagne has an enticing waft of Mandarin orange on the nose that continues on the palate, which is layered with flavors of crushed blackberry and cassis, toast, chopped almond, graphite and oyster shell. A bright, finely-knit and harmonious version, with a lovely, raw silk-like mousse, and a lasting, expressive finish. Drink now through 2037.

What a magnificent bouquet for this Dom Pérignon 2012! Pastry, a hint of smoke and classic brioche notes provide a compelling counterpart to eager yet elegant aromas of citrus (lime, tangerine and kumquat) joined by those of fresh fruit, herbs, liquorice and menthol. There is even a refreshing note of ivy. The palate is tense, vibrant and very fresh despite its impressive density, which meets its match with an unending finish. This 2012 embodies the very essence of Dom Pérignon with such a concentrated degree of intensity, along with a capacity for ageing that it is surely destined for a second life in a P2 edition. Drink 2021 - 2050.

Please note: Multiple packaging defects. The top bottle support inside the box is missing and a small amount of foil is missing from around the cork.

Pours with a frothy mousse that shows good hold over the pale straw coloured base. Flecks of pale gold are littered around the edges and an exceptionally fine, vivid bead courses its way through the core. Complex aromatics of toasty yeast lees characters, pear, citrus, roasted almonds and brioche filter their way through the nostrils. Airy yet nimble across the palate with a satiny feel, pear and citrus fruits interplay with notions of yeast lees, light baked bread characters, subtle cashew and traces of oiliness. Excellent concentration and power finishing dry with crisp acidity and a long expressive aftertaste.

A firm and vivid Champagne with a precise, focused palate. Full-bodied and dry. It’s very layered and bright with light pineapple, peach, praline, cooked-apple and stone aromas and flavors. It’s very subtle and focused at the end. Integrated with richness and high acidity. Good depth. Reminds me of the 1995. Very clean. Solid. Lovely to drink already, but will age nicely.

A graceful Champagne, featuring fragrant notes of toasted brioche and grilled nut that are more subtle on the palate, with a rich underpinning layered with a pure chime of tangerine and accents of candied ginger, toasted saffron and lime blossom. This bundles a lot of concentrated flavor into a lithe frame, with the fine mousse caressing the palate through to the lasting finish. Drink now through 2035.

The challenging vintage (botrytis) may have reduced the usual massive production, using only the best fruit harvested with military precision. On tirage for 8 years. The complex and expressive bouquet opens for a palate with flavours from quince to honey circling around a core of stone fruit, the finish penetrating.

    Other Reviews….
The 2008 Dom Pérignon is the first time the estate has released a wine out of order (the 2009 was released before the 2008) but the estate loved the wine so much they felt it warranted additional aging. This is a rich, powerful wine that still shows incredible purity and elegance, with a stacked, concentrated feel on the palate. It’s rare to find such a mix of ripe, pure, concentrated fruit paired with this level of purity, focus, and precision. This is a legendary Dom that surpasses all the great vintages of Dom I have experience with, including the 1990, 1996, and 2002. Drink 2018 – 2038.

The best Dom since 2002. A vintage with very restrained, powerful style that has been released non-sequentially after the 2009. This has a lighter stamp of highly curated, autolytic, toasty aromas than many recent releases. Instead, this delivers super fresh and intense aromas of lemons, grapefruit and blood-orange peel. Incredible freshness here. The palate has a very smoothly delivered, berry-pastry thread with light, sweet spices, stone fruit and fine citrus fruit. This really delivers. Drink now or hold.

Tasting Note: I have had a lot of great vintages of Dom Perignon, but I do not remember any as impressive as the 1996. Even richer than the brilliant 1990, the 1996 is still tightly wound, but reveals tremendous aromatic intensity, offering hints of bread dough, Wheat Thins, tropical fruits, and roasted hazelnuts. Medium to full-bodied, with crisp acidity buttressing the wines wealth of fruit and intensity, it comes across as extraordinarly zesty, well-delineated, and incredibly long on the palate. Moet-Chandon deserves considerable accolades for this prodigious example of Dom Perignon. Anticipated maturity: now-2020+. 98 points

The 2000 Dom Pérignon P2 is decidedly exuberant. Ripe apricot, orange peel, pastry, baked apple, butter and vanillin all flesh out in this beautifully resonant, toasty edition of the P2. Soft curves and voluptuous fruit add to the wine’s immediacy and sheer appeal. The 2000 is not hugely complex or layered, but it has plenty of palate presence and overall intensity. The 2000 P2 is a terrific choice for readers who enjoy Champagnes that show the more advanced aromas, flavors and textures that develop in bottle. Tasted two times with consistent notes.

A beautiful nose of baked peach, lime blossom and graphite draws you into the glass of this stunning 2000, whose flavors of brioche, salted almond and spun honey are wrapped around sleek, mouthwatering acidity and a streak of smoke-tinged mineral. A Champagne that has turned to a very fine texture with dried pineapple and lemon character. Medium to full body, complex and flavorful palate. Shows length and beauty. Pie crust, cooked apple and lemon rind continue on the finish. A truly great 2000 with a combination of finesse and strength. It’s very, very minerally to a point of sea salt. It was disgorged in first half of 2016. Drink or hold.

Excellent creamy white mousse which once dissipated reveals a pale straw coloured base wine with pale gold edges. The exceptionally fine bead showing great persistence. The nose displays great complexity and refinement with aromas of oily toast characters, baked bread, roasted almonds, yeast lees and citrus arising from the glass. The palate has an understated richness yet is very graceful and refined featuring flavours of citrus, oily toast like characters, almonds and of course yeast lees. Finishes dry and fresh with bracing acidity and a slight creaminess about the mouthfeel. Superb length with a long aftertaste of oily toast characters, citrus, almonds and yeast lees.

The 2006 Dom Pérignon is a beautifully balanced, harmonious Dom Pérignon that strikes an incredibly appealing stylistic middle ground. Rich, voluptuous and creamy, the 2006 shows off fabulous intensity in a style that brings together the ripeness of 2002 with the greater sense of verve and overall freshness that is such a signature of the 2004. Bass notes and a feeling of phenolic grip on the finish recall the 2003, as the Pinot Noir is particularly expressive today. After an irregular summer that saw elevated temperatures in July followed by cooler, damp conditions in August, more favorable weather returned in September, pushing maturation ahead and leading to a long, protracted harvest. The 2006 falls into the family of riper, more voluptuous Dom Pérignons, but without veering into the level of opulence seen in vintages such as 2002. Drink 2016-2046.

Most vintages of Dom are new-born when first released, forcing you to go in search of the wine to be. No such effort is required here: the fresh, lifted florals, brioche and almonds burst from the glass from the first sniff. Despite its eloquence, the key words remain delicate, detailed and freshness, the vibrancy of the palate running as a clear stream from start to finish.

Excellent pour displaying a very frothy lacy white mousse that holds very well. Once dissipated it reveals a pale straw coloured base with pale gold edges and an exceptionally fine and persistent bead. Despite the warmer vintage the nose has a sense of freshness to it featuring a very refined aromatic profile of citrus, yeast lees, toast and bready characters followed by chalky lemon like end notes. Reflective of the nose the palate also has a lemony freshness running through a seamless airy mouthfeel. Flavours of lemony citrus intermix with yeast lees, toast and subtle oily nuances. Some roasted almonds also chime in. Dry, crisp mouthwatering finish. Long refined conclusion of yeast lees, oily toast like characters, baked bread, citrus and roasted almonds.

There's a subtle power to this graceful Champagne, which boasts a firm, crystalline frame of acidity married to the fine, satin like mousse and notes of white raspberry, brioche and Earl Grey tea.

The 2004 Dom Perignon pours well opening with a frothy white mousse that shows excellent hold. Once dissipated it reveals a base wine colour of pale straw with a very profuse and exceptionally fine bead. Nosing provides a classic, refined Champagne sniff showing excellent intensity. Aromas of baked bread, yeast lees and cashew are followed by some subtle toastiness with some citrus end notes. Elegant and refined the palate has a flavour profile of toasty baked bread and yeast lees followed by some subtle nutty hazelnut and citrus. Clean crisp dry finish but quite creamy in mouthfeel with long persistent aftertaste of toasty yeast lees, brioche and subtle hazelnut. Enjoy it as often as you can afford to!

The 2004 Dom Pérignon continues to develop beautifully. A vibrant, focused Champagne, the 2004 clearly reflects the personality of the year. Freshly cut flowers, white peaches and pears are woven together in a Champagne that impresses for its focus and energy. Chiseled saline note support the crystalline finish. I imagine the 2004 will always remain relatively bright and linear, but at the same time, each time I have tasted it over the last two years the 2004 seems to have a little more body and broader shoulders. The 2004 will appeal most to readers who find the 2002 and 2003 too exuberant. There is a lot to like in the glass.

This unique limited edition of Dom Pérignon Vintage 2008, designed by Lenny Kravitz, marks the second year of his collaboration with Dom Perignon. Lenny Kravitz elevates the iconic label on the vintage 2008 bottle by borrowing from the craft of goldsmiths to work hammered metal on the surface of the shield.
A fine lacy white mousse has good buoyancy over a pale straw coloured base. Exceptionally delicate and very steady bead. Very complex and refined the nose features citrus and toast top notes over yeast lees, hints of green apple, brioche and almond. Sophisticated and powerful, the toned, tightly sculptured palate features driving citrus, baked bread, yeast lees, almond, subtlety toasted biscuit, brioche, smoky mineral, and oyster shell like flavours. Dry racy finish with crisp acidity and an airy yet tense feel. Concludes very long and finessed. Still remarkably young and virile, some bottle age will reap great rewards.

The 2008 Dom Pérignon is fabulous, but quite remarkably, it was even more open when I tasted it a year ago. Bright, focused and crystalline in its precision, the 2008 is going to need a number of years before it is at its best. Lemon peel, white flowers, mint and white pepper give the 2008 its chiseled, bright profile. Several recent bottles have all been magnificent. What I admire most about the 2008 is the way it shows all the focus, translucence and energy that is such a signature of the year, and yet it is also remarkably deep and vertical. In other words, the 2008 is a Champagne that plays in three dimensions. Drink 2020-2058.

There's power to this graceful Champagne, with the vivid acidity swathed in a fine, creamy mousse and flavors of toasted brioche, kumquat, pastry cream, candied ginger and poached plum that dance across the palate. The finest release of this iconic cuvée since the 1996 vintage, the 2008 Dom Pérignon wafts from the glass with an incipiently complex bouquet of Meyer lemon, green apple, dried white flowers and oyster shell, with only subtle hints of the smoky, autolytic aromas that have been such a prominent signature of recent releases. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, deep and complete, its notable flesh and amplitude controlled by incisive acids, with a youthfully exuberant but elegant mousse and a long, beautifully delineated finish. Considering the sheer size of this cuvée, it's a remarkable achievement and a fitting release with which to conclude Richard Geoffroy's tenure as chef de cave. Given the 2008's intensity and balance, I suspect purists will be anticipating later disgorgements with lower dosage and more time on the lees with particular enthusiasm. Tasted three times, with consistent results. Drink 2018-2040.

The 2005 Dom Pérignon Rosé is intriguing, complex and multi-faceted. Brisk and refreshing, with a slightly herbal (but not unpleasant character), the 2005 is superb today. Over time, the wine has acquired a bit more depth and body than it showed at the outset. Even with all of its depth, though, I would not suggest cellaring the 2005 too long given the challenges of the year. Hints of blood orange, mint, sage and dried flowers add the closing shades of nuance.

A mind-blowing wine. This is super subtle and intense with aromas of peaches, light strawberry and cream. Also shows rose petal and cooked peaches. Medium to full body, with ultra-fine tannins that feel like fine silk. The finish goes on for mintutes. It floats across the palate. The winemaker says the closet vintage to this is the 1990, but I think this is better.
