A fine satiny mousse sits over a pale straw coloured base that has pale gold tinged edges and is finely threaded by a very persistent bead of nibble bubbles. Pronounced citrus and oily toast aromas are to the fore with some pear, roasted almond and yeast lees notes ensuing. Finessed and elegant, mouth watering flavours of pear, citrus and baked bread dance vibrantly across the palate underscored by yeast lees, almond and subtle dried honey characters. Creamy tinged texture finishing dry with chalk tinged acidity and a long buttered toast like aftertaste.

A driven and serious DP with aromas of chalk, biscuits, apricot stones and lemons. Some spice and dried flowers, too. So sleek and sophisticated. Elegant. Yet, it’s long and powerful, with a sharp minerality. Tight and precise. Reminds me of bottles from the 1980s, such as 1988. It really takes off. Disgorged October 2021. Drinkable on release in January 2023, but better in a couple of years. A DP for the cellar.

JamesSuckling.comDisgorged in October 2022, the 2013 Dom Pérignon is a charming and elegant vintage for this cuvée. It reveals complex aromas of buttery pastry, spices, citrus oil, almonds, honey and, with aeration, a touch of smoke. The palate is medium to full-bodied, perfectly balanced, with a chiseled and tightly wound profile. The long, cool growing season has brought freshness and a delicate earthy note to the finish. Drink 2023-2043.

There’s no such thing as a non-vintage Dom, just 6 million or so bottles for every vintage released. The 2013 vintage weather was a game of ping pong – crop losses of every kind slashed yields but the reduced crop ripened perfectly. This wine has Dom Perignon’s typical airy elegance, length and balance.

The 2006 Dom Pérignon Rosé continues to show very well, unfurling in the glass with aromas of bitter orange, dried white flowers, red berries, toast and woodsmoke. On the palate, it's full-bodied, broad and muscular, with all the phenolic structure and depth that one would expect from a rosé that contains more than 20% still red wine, concluding with a sapid and chalky finish. As I wrote earlier this year, this is a vinous, gastronomic rosé that numbers among the decided successes of the 2006 vintage.

The 2006 Dom Pérignon Rosé is every bit as captivating as it was last year, maybe even more so. At times powerful, but in other moments finessed, the 2006 constantly changes in the glass, revealing a different shade of its personality with every taste. Perhaps most importantly, the 2006 seems to have gained a level of precision and pure sophistication it did not show last year, when it was quite a bit less put together. Back then, the 2006 was a wine of tremendous potential; today that potential is starting to be realized. Quite simply, the 2006 Dom Pérignon Rosé is a magical Champagne. Don’t miss it.

Loads of complexity on offer here, from brioche to dried peaches to strawberries and cream and on to rhubarb fool, pomegranate pastries and bread crumbs. The mousse is wonderfully integrated to the edgy peaches and notes that feather the finest line between oxidation and reduction. Very layered and linear, this is an incredibly long and mind-bending Champagne. Drink now.

JamesSuckling.comThis graceful 2006 shows lovely freshness, featuring a pronounced note of pink grapefruit granita layered with finely detailed accents of toasted nut, lemon thyme, smoky mineral and crystallized honey. Plushly creamy in texture, with a steely streak of acidity well-knit throughout and firming the lasting, spiced finish. Drink now through 2029.

Unfortunately there is only one new release from Dom Perignon this year. The 2003 is one of the most unusual Dom Perignons I have ever tasted, going back to 1952. Readers will remember that 2003 was a torrid vintage across northern Europe, especially during the critical month of August, when temperatures remained very hot for well over a month. The harvest was the earliest on record, until 2011, that is. I suppose its not that surprising Chef de Caves Richard Geoffroy chose to make a 2003 Dom Perignon, given his penchant for risk-taking, an approach that has yielded so many memorable wines that stretch the perception of what big brand Champagne is and can be. The 2003 Dom Perignon is a big, broad shouldered wine. It does not have the seductiveness of the 2000, nor the power of the 2002. It is instead very much its own wine. In 2003 Geoffroy elected to use more Pinot Noir than is typically the case, and that comes through in the wine’s breath and volume. The 2003 is a big, powerful Champagne that will require quite a bit of time to shed some of its baby fat. The trademark textural finesse is there, though. I expect the 2003 to be a highly divisive Champagne because of its extreme personality, but then again, many of the world’s legendary wines were made from vintages considered freakish at the time. The 2003 is an atypically, rich, powerful, vinous Dom Perignon loaded with fruit, structure and personality. It is not for the timid, but rather it is a wine for those who can be patient. No one has a crystal ball, but personally I will not be surprised if in 20 years’ time the 2003 is considered an iconic Champagne. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2038.

Excellent creamy white mousse. Very fine, delicate yet persistent bead. The nose is refined with both elegance and complexity evident. Aroma of biscuit and cashew over a light lees end note. Creamy palate texture without body ´fat´, yet with plenty of flavour and power. Exceptionally long palate of biscuit, cashew and spice with an aftertaste that lasts for minutes. An essay in refinement.

I am a no-holds-barred Dom addict, but I have to admit to being somewhat disappointed with the '99 vintage, which seemed altogether too delicate, verging on outright simplicity. I have no such reservations about the 2000 vintage, which has the Dom hallmark fluid line and feline grace encouraging the rapid consumption of glass after glass. Along the way you will find notes of nectarine, cherry, brioche and cream, which build into a gloriously long and even finish. It will continue to develop in bottle for decades to come.

Excellent pour displaying a very frothy lacy white mousse that holds very well. Once dissipated it reveals a pale straw coloured base with pale gold edges and an exceptionally fine and persistent bead. Despite the warmer vintage the nose has a sense of freshness to it featuring a very refined aromatic profile of citrus, yeast lees, toast and bready characters followed by chalky lemon like end notes. Reflective of the nose the palate also has a lemony freshness running through a seamless airy mouthfeel. Flavours of lemony citrus intermix with yeast lees, toast and subtle oily nuances. Some roasted almonds also chime in. Dry, crisp mouthwatering finish. Long refined conclusion of yeast lees, oily toast like characters, baked bread, citrus and roasted almonds.

This is a DP that shows the ripeness of the 2009 vintage yet remains full of energy. Gorgeous aromas of cream, apple, mango, honeysuckle, and chalk follow through to a full body and super fine, tight texture. Dense and agile. Vinous. It’s like a top grand cru white Burgundy. Think Batard-Montrachet. More depth than the 2006. Drink now.

It’s shocking that Dom is so far below price leadership. Two (of many) reasons are its sheer volume produced, and the confusion of five to seven vintages on current release. In the midst of this the new vintage sails calmly on, supple, delicate and long, and oh so easy to enjoy.

The 2004 vintage was defined by the dry heat experienced in the Champagne region over the final weeks before harvest, contributing to wonderful ripeness in the grapes. According to Chef de Cave, Richard Geoffroy,"...growing and fruit ripening periods went by smoothly, with no difficulties - a phenomenon that we have rarely, if ever, seen before".
The 2004 Dom Perignon pours well opening with a frothy white mousse that shows excellent hold. Once dissipated it reveals a base wine colour of pale straw with a very profuse and exceptionally fine bead. Nosing provides a classic, refined Champagne sniff showing excellent intensity. Aromas of baked bread, yeast lees and cashew are followed by some subtle toastiness with some citrus end notes. Elegant and refined the palate has a flavour profile of toasty baked bread and yeast lees followed by some subtle nutty hazelnut and citrus. Clean crisp dry finish but quite creamy in mouthfeel with long persistent aftertaste of toasty yeast lees, brioche and subtle hazelnut. Enjoy it as often as you can afford to!

Another stellar wine, the 2004 Dom Pérignon is just starting to show the first signs of aromatic development, as well as a bit of added weight it did not have as a young wine. The 2004 remains a bright, mid-weight DP built on persistence and length more than overt volume. I have always had a soft spot for the 2004. This tasting does nothing to dampen that enthusiasm. The newly released 2008 Dom Pérignon Rosé is a dramatic, perfumed wine, bursting with aromas of blood orange, iodine, sweet citrus fruit, peach and pear mingled with hints of buttered toast, smoke and spices. Full-bodied, textural and enveloping, with terrific concentration, racy acids and a pillowy mousse, it concludes with a long, penetrating finish. It derives its intense hue from red wine produced from Pinot Noir grown in lieux-dits Chants de Linottes in Hautvillers and Vauzelles in Aÿ. Drink 2022 - 2042.

William Kelley - Wine Advocate (Sep 2022)The 2008 Dom Pérignon Rosé is magnificent. Rich and deep in the glass, the 2008 offers up an exotic mélange of aromas and flavors. Sweet red cherry, mint, orange peel and rose petal all grace this beguiling beauty. Bright acids and a little less still red Pinot (21%) than in most recent editions yields a Rosé that is delicate and light on its feet, with less of the vinous intensity that marked vintages such as 2006. There is a classic feeling of austerity in the 2018 that is mesmerizing. Drink 2026-2048.

Citrus, toast and yeast lees aromas jump from the glass trailed by pear, green apple and light biscuit notes. Refined and elegant yet long, the palate is brimming with citrus and green pear fruits which overlay a back drop of yeast lees, green apple, oyster shell and faint cashew. There’s good tension and focus but this is not a Dom Perignon to drink now, it requires some further bottle age to fill out at which time it will no doubt garner another point or two. The 2012 Dom Pérignon is a dense, powerful wine. I am almost shocked by its vinous intensity and raw, unbridled power. The 2012 reminds me of the 2003, but with more finesse and not quite as pushed. Mildew, rain and frost were challenges and resulted in low yields, something that was further compounded by warm, dry weather that concentrated the fruit even more. Those qualities result in a dense Dom Pérignon endowed with real phenolic intensity. It is one of the most reticent young Doms I can remember tasting, I wouldn’t even think of opening a bottle for at least a few years. (Originally published in May 2021). Drink 2022 - 2052.

JamesSuckling.com (May 2021)The 2012 Dom Pérignon has turned out very well indeed, unwinding in the glass with notes of Anjou pear, smoke, toasted nuts, freshly baked bread and crisp stone fruit. Medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, it's still tightly wound, its incipiently fleshy core of fruit framed by racy acids and chalky grip, complemented by a classy pinpoint mousse. A touch drier and a touch less reductive than the 2008 out of the gates, these two vintages are clearly destined to be compared for some time to come; but at this early stage, my instinct is that the 2012 will have the edge in the long term. Alison Napjus - The Wine Spectator (November 2021)What a magnificent bouquet for this Dom Pérignon 2012! There is even a refreshing note of ivy. The palate is tense, vibrant and very fresh despite its impressive density, which meets its match with an unending finish. The 2008 Dom Pérignon is the first time the estate has released a wine out of order (the 2009 was released before the 2008) but the estate loved the wine so much they felt it warranted additional aging. It’s rare to find such a mix of ripe, pure, concentrated fruit paired with this level of purity, focus, and precision. The best Dom since 2002. A vintage with very restrained, powerful style that has been released non-sequentially after the 2009. This has a lighter stamp of highly curated, autolytic, toasty aromas than many recent releases. Instead, this delivers super fresh and intense aromas of lemons, grapefruit and blood-orange peel. Incredible freshness here. The palate has a very smoothly delivered, berry-pastry thread with light, sweet spices, stone fruit and fine citrus fruit. This really delivers. Drink now or hold.

The 2000 Dom Pérignon P2 is decidedly exuberant. Ripe apricot, orange peel, pastry, baked apple, butter and vanillin all flesh out in this beautifully resonant, toasty edition of the P2. Soft curves and voluptuous fruit add to the wine’s immediacy and sheer appeal. The 2000 is not hugely complex or layered, but it has plenty of palate presence and overall intensity. Alison Napjus - Wine SpectatorA Champagne that has turned to a very fine texture with dried pineapple and lemon character. Medium to full body, complex and flavorful palate. Shows length and beauty. Pie crust, cooked apple and lemon rind continue on the finish. A truly great 2000 with a combination of finesse and strength. It’s very, very minerally to a point of sea salt. It was disgorged in first half of 2016. Drink or hold.

Excellent creamy white mousse which once dissipated reveals a pale straw coloured base wine with pale gold edges. The exceptionally fine bead showing great persistence. The nose displays great complexity and refinement with aromas of oily toast characters, baked bread, roasted almonds, yeast lees and citrus arising from the glass. The palate has an understated richness yet is very graceful and refined featuring flavours of citrus, oily toast like characters, almonds and of course yeast lees. Finishes dry and fresh with bracing acidity and a slight creaminess about the mouthfeel. Superb length with a long aftertaste of oily toast characters, citrus, almonds and yeast lees.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.

The 2006 Dom Pérignon is a beautifully balanced, harmonious Dom Pérignon that strikes an incredibly appealing stylistic middle ground. Rich, voluptuous and creamy, the 2006 shows off fabulous intensity in a style that brings together the ripeness of 2002 with the greater sense of verve and overall freshness that is such a signature of the 2004. Bass notes and a feeling of phenolic grip on the finish recall the 2003, as the Pinot Noir is particularly expressive today. After an irregular summer that saw elevated temperatures in July followed by cooler, damp conditions in August, more favorable weather returned in September, pushing maturation ahead and leading to a long, protracted harvest. The 2006 falls into the family of riper, more voluptuous Dom Pérignons, but without veering into the level of opulence seen in vintages such as 2002. Drink 2016-2046.

Most vintages of Dom are new-born when first released, forcing you to go in search of the wine to be. No such effort is required here: the fresh, lifted florals, brioche and almonds burst from the glass from the first sniff. Despite its eloquence, the key words remain delicate, detailed and freshness, the vibrancy of the palate running as a clear stream from start to finish.

The 2004 Dom Pérignon continues to develop beautifully. A vibrant, focused Champagne, the 2004 clearly reflects the personality of the year. Freshly cut flowers, white peaches and pears are woven together in a Champagne that impresses for its focus and energy. Chiseled saline note support the crystalline finish. I imagine the 2004 will always remain relatively bright and linear, but at the same time, each time I have tasted it over the last two years the 2004 seems to have a little more body and broader shoulders. The 2004 will appeal most to readers who find the 2002 and 2003 too exuberant. There is a lot to like in the glass.

The 2008 Dom Pérignon is the first time the estate has released a wine out of order (the 2009 was released before the 2008) but the estate loved the wine so much they felt it warranted additional aging. This is a rich, powerful wine that still shows incredible purity and elegance, with a stacked, concentrated feel on the palate. It’s rare to find such a mix of ripe, pure, concentrated fruit paired with this level of purity, focus, and precision. This is a legendary Dom that surpasses all the great vintages of Dom I have experience with, including the 1990, 1996, and 2002. Drink 2018-2038.

JebDunnuck.comThe 2008 Dom Pérignon is fabulous, but quite remarkably, it was even more open when I tasted it a year ago. Bright, focused and crystalline in its precision, the 2008 is going to need a number of years before it is at its best. Lemon peel, white flowers, mint and white pepper give the 2008 its chiseled, bright profile. Several recent bottles have all been magnificent. What I admire most about the 2008 is the way it shows all the focus, translucence and energy that is such a signature of the year, and yet it is also remarkably deep and vertical. In other words, the 2008 is a Champagne that plays in three dimensions. Drink 2020-2058.

Wine SpectatorThe finest release of this iconic cuvée since the 1996 vintage, the 2008 Dom Pérignon wafts from the glass with an incipiently complex bouquet of Meyer lemon, green apple, dried white flowers and oyster shell, with only subtle hints of the smoky, autolytic aromas that have been such a prominent signature of recent releases. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, deep and complete, its notable flesh and amplitude controlled by incisive acids, with a youthfully exuberant but elegant mousse and a long, beautifully delineated finish. Considering the sheer size of this cuvée, it's a remarkable achievement and a fitting release with which to conclude Richard Geoffroy's tenure as chef de cave. Given the 2008's intensity and balance, I suspect purists will be anticipating later disgorgements with lower dosage and more time on the lees with particular enthusiasm. Tasted three times, with consistent results. Drink 2018-2040.

The 2005 Dom Pérignon Rosé is intriguing, complex and multi-faceted. Brisk and refreshing, with a slightly herbal (but not unpleasant character), the 2005 is superb today. Over time, the wine has acquired a bit more depth and body than it showed at the outset. Even with all of its depth, though, I would not suggest cellaring the 2005 too long given the challenges of the year. Hints of blood orange, mint, sage and dried flowers add the closing shades of nuance.

I believe that the 2005 DP is the best since 2002, which remains the best recent vintage and is probably only eclipsed by the amazing 100-point 1996. The 2005 is a full-bodied DP with so much richness and loads of ripe fruit such as pineapple and papaya. It has a wonderful, creamy texture and a long and intense finish. It’s a Champagne that fully satisfies but at the same time challenges you with its strength, depth and persistence on the palate.

William Kelley - Wine Advocate (Apr 2020)The 2006 Dom Pérignon Rosé is every bit as captivating as it was last year, maybe even more so.

2002 Dom Perignon P2 ChampagneChampagne, FRANCE$650. 00Bottle$7800.00 DozenABV: 12.5%Closure: CorkOther Reviews…..
The 2002 Dom Pérignon P2 is wonderfully open in its aromatics, but a bit less giving on the palate, especially next to the regular release. Lemon confit, white flowers, mint and white pepper open up first, followed by hints of apricot, honey, chamomile and light tropical notes. Interestingly, the P2 is quite a bit less tropical than the original release. Chef de Caves Vincent Chaperon told me he thinks the original release shows more of a buttery character because of the combination of the ripeness of the vintage and the natural evolution of the wine post-disgorgement under crown seal, as opposed to the P2 which stayed much longer on its lees. It is hard to know if that is an exact explanation, but the reality is that the two 2002s are quite far apart stylistically. Drink 2019-2032.

Antonio Galloni – Vinous
The 2002 Dom Pérignon P2 is still a youthful wine, but it is beginning to develop appreciable complexity, wafting from the glass with notes of of iodine, warm bread, ripe orchard fruit, peach, citrus oil, smoke and peat, which in Geoffroy's words "are on the verge of aromatic over-ripeness." On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, broad and fleshy, with a textural, voluminous profile, pinpoint bubbles and a chalky, phenolic finish. This is a ripe and powerful Dom Pérignon that finds its closest stylistic analogy in the 1990 vintage, and it is considerably less evolved than the more tertiary 2000 P2 today. While the P2 is a bit drier and more precise on the finish than the original release, given the wine's slow evolution the difference between the two is less pronounced than it has been for any vintage since 1996. Drink 2018-2036.

2010 Dom Ruinart Blanc De Blancs ChampagneChampagne, FRANCE$549. 00Bottle$6588.00 DozenABV: 12.5%Closure: CorkThe 2010 Dom Ruinart Blanc de Blancs is crafted solely from Grand Cru Chardonnay, with the majority, comprising 90%, cultivated in the esteemed vineyards of the Côte des Blancs, including Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Avize, Chouilly, and Cramant. The remaining 10% is sourced from the Montagne de Reims (Sillery). In their pursuit of excellence, Maison Ruinart is improving the aging process for Dom Ruinart wines, by reintroducing the traditional method of aging the wine with corks instead of metal caps. This choice also brings back a century-old practice of manually disgorging the wines. The wine goes through malolactic fermentation to add richness and is aged on lees for 9 years in bottle before being disgorged and topped with a dosage of 4g/L.

The 2010 Dom Ruinart is starting to open up nicely. There's still plenty of the intense, chalky minerality and energy the wine showed last year, but also a bit more mid-palate richness to balance things out. Lemon confit, marzipan, white flowers, slate and white pepper are some of the many aromas and flavors that take shape in the glass. As good as the 2010 is today, I imagine it will be even better in another few years' time. As I have written previously, the 2010 Dom Ruinart is one of the most impressive Champagnes ever made here. If there is anything better, I don't think I have tasted it! Drink 2024 - 2050.

This is the first vintage of this cuvée that the house has opted to age under cork instead of crown capsule for the aging on the lees, sur latte. It pours a vibrant straw/green hue, and comes from five villages: Sillery, Avize, Cramant, Chouily, and Mesnil-sur-Oger. The 2010 Champagne Dom Ruinart Blanc De Blancs Extra Brut was raised, as it always is, without the use of oak, and saw 3 grams per liter of dosage. Highly expressive on opening, it’s layered with aromas of fresh baked croissant, key lime, melon, and honeysuckle. Rounded and long on the palate, it’s elegant and refined within its medium frame and takes on a remarkable silky chalk texture. Floral all the way through the finish, with long-lasting notes of lemon curd, it retains a springy freshness that is true to the house style but is quite elevated and impeccably well-balanced with layered depth. This would be a great addition to the cellar. Drink 2025-2045. Disgorged in June of 2022.

The nose has a pronounced toastiness to it with prominent citrus infusions, yeast lees, oily baked bread, faint fresh pear notes, roasted almonds and dried honey ensuing. Vibrant baked pear and citrus flavours intermingle with yeast lees and toast over a background of oily roasted nut characters. Dry refreshing finish with a moderately creamy, fresh textural feel. Long aftertaste of pear, toasty bread, yeast lees, oily nuts, citrus and subtle dried honey characters.

A statuesque Champagne, firm and finely knit, with a beautiful array of baked white peach, almond biscotti, pastry cream and crystallized honey flavors riding the silky mousse. A rich and smoky note of toasted brioche echoes on the chiseled finish. Drink now through 2031.

The 2006 Dom Ruinart Blanc de Blancs Brut is simply fabulous. In most vintages, Dom Ruinart is a big, ample Champagne that shows the structure of the Montagne de Reims Chardonnay in the blend. The 2006 has plenty of textural resonance and richness, and yet I am also struck by its tension. Both bottles I tasted point to a Dom Ruinart that is quite a bit more polished and sophisticated than it often is at this stage. Drink 2020-2046.

Duval Leroy Fleur de Champagne Brut Premier CruChampagne, FRANCE$69. 99Bottle$839.88 DozenABV: 12%Closure: CorkOther Reviews....
Predominantly based on Chardonnay from the Côte des Blancs, the NV Fleur de Champagne Premier Cru Brut is a very delicate and elegant Champagne with a beautiful bouquet of ripe white fruits, pineapples, butterscotch, nougat, brioche and fresh toast. The assemblage with Pinot Noir from the Montage de Reims and the Marne Valley gives this lean, but impressively balanced Brut a full, round and well-structured taste; whereas the Chardonnay lends silkiness, finesse and a chalky freshness with lovely lemon and grapefruit flavors in the serious, but stimulatingly refreshing and grippy finish. Exclusively based on Grand and Premier Crus, this Fleur de Champagne is a highly recommended soprano aperitif that can easily match lighter, vegetable-based dishes, as well as fish, seafood and white meat.

The NV Rosé Prestige Brut Premier Cru is a generous and well-structured blend of Pinot Noir (90%, from Vertus, the Marne Valley and the Montagne de Reims) and Chardonnay (Côte des Blancs) that shows a very nice, medium-intense salmon color. The wine opens with a delicately aromatic but also spicy-flavored nose of red fruits (raspberries, cherries) and reveals a delicate and fresh yet intense, round and elegant palate with a very fine mousse and a good, cleansing finish. There are juniper flavors in the long finish. Tasted from L6354NG31 that was disgorged in December 2016 with nine grams of dosage.

Egly-Ouriet Les Premices Brut Champagne Magnum (1500ml)Champagne, FRANCE$450. 00Bottle$5400.00 DozenABV: 12.5%Closure: CorkThe Ambonnay based Egly-Ouriet are a reference point for grower producers in Champagne, known for their impeccable vineyard management and fastidious winemaking skills. Les Prémices is the first new cuvée from this Domaine for over twenty years and hails from 3.5 hectares of vines in Trigny (northwest of Reims) in the Massif de Saint Thierry area. Reflecting what is planted in the vineyards, Les Prémices is an equal blend of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier drawn from mature vines (on average, 40 years old) rooted in clay, sand and sandstone, over chalk bedrock—a soil typical of the Massif de St. Thierry. The main difference between this wine and others in the Egly portfolio is here the wine was fermented and aged exclusively in tank, and spent 36 months on lees and was disgorged with two grams per litre.
Please note: Disgorgement dates can vary. Please contact the store if you would like to check which disgorgement is currently available.

Based on the 2018 vintage and disgorged with only one gram per liter dosage, Egly's NV Brut Les Prémices delivers aromas of sweet orchard fruit, peach, baking spices and fresh bread. Medium to full-bodied, ample and satiny, it's a charming, enveloping wine with a sweet core of fruit and a bright, saline finish. Drink 2022 - 2030.

William Kelley - Wine Advocate (Sep 2022)A new wine in the Egly range, the NV Brut Les Prémices is a Chardonnay/Pinot Noir/Meunier blend from Trigny, all 2016 vintage. Bright floral notes and the natural richness of Pinots come together nicely in this entry-level bottling. There is good energy, but naturally not quite the textural breadth of the top wines.

Francis Egly has produced another profound Champagne with the 2013 Brut Grand Cru Millésime. If the monumental 2008 stands out for its power, structure and intensity, the 2013 is distinguished by its harmony, finesse and completeness; both vintages are very great wines but thus quite different in style. Wafting from the glass with scents of Anjou pear, crisp yellow apple, freshly baked bread, clear honey, iodine and fresh mint, it's full-bodied, ample and pillowy, with a layered, concentrated and effortlessly balanced core of fruit, uniting precision and sensuality to compelling effect. Girdled by racy acids and animated by a delicate pinpoint mousse, it concludes with a long, penetrating finish. Is this the most elegant wine Egly has produced to date? It's certainly among the most compelling that this high quality but initially underrated Champagne vintage has delivered. Drink 2023 - 2050.

Egly-Ouriet Les Vignes de Bisseuil Premier Cru Extra Brut ChampagneChampagne, FRANCE$280. 00Bottle$3360.00 DozenClosure: CorkThe Ambonnay based Egly-Ouriet are a reference point for grower producers in Champagne, known for their impeccable vineyard management and fastidious winemaking skills. Much of their production is raised in oak barrels, with extended aging on lees a feature. Les Vignes de Bisseuil hails from a plot of vines on the south-facing slopes of Bisseuil, a village just to the east of the famous Grand Cru communes of Aÿ and Mareuil-sur-Aÿ. While these villages are more renowned for Pinot Noir, Bisseuil is the only village in the area that has more Chardonnay than Pinot Noir in its vineyards. That’s why the blend here is 70% Chardonnay with 15% Pinot Noir and 15% Pinot Meunier. Vinification is carried out entirely in barrel before spending four years in the cellar prior to the disgorgement at extra brut levels of approximately 2g/L.

A new cuvée from Egly makes its debut in the NV Brut Vignes de Bisseuil, a blend of 70% Chardonnay and the balance equal parts Pinot Meunier and Pinot Noir, all vinified in oak. This first release, disgorged in March 2021 with three grams dosage, is based on the 2016 vintage. Offering up aromas of crisp orchard fruit, lemon oil, mint, white flowers and almonds, it's medium to full-bodied, vinous and chiseled, its enveloping core of fruit girdled by bright acids and chalky structure. Concluding with a long, saline finish, it's a superb addition to the range that nips at the heels of Egly's NV Brut Grand Cru. Drink 2021 - 2035.

Antonio Galloni - VinousThis release of the NV Champagne Vignes De Bisseuil is based on 2019 but also includes 2018 and 2017. In the glass it pours a bright silver straw hue and offers savory, ripe aromas of pear, melon rind, fresh earth, and briny salinity, with bold character and ample ripeness. Medium to full-bodied, it delivers a good deal of intensity and maybe even more fruity on the palate. It’s a savory wine with lovely richness, a refined mousse, and a long finish. William Kelley - Wine Advocate (Sep 2022)The NV Brut Rosé Grand Cru is distinguished, among other things, by the five years it spent on its lees, which is quite long for Rosé Champagne. This bottle of the 2009 Brut Grand Cru Millésime was disgorged in July 2018 after 96 months on the lees, and it's already showing brilliantly, wafting from the glass with complex aromas of smoky red berries, green apple, oyster shell and English walnuts, with a faint hint of fino sherry on the upper register. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, broad and vinous, with searing concentration, a beautifully refined mousse, brisk acids and a long, indeed seemingly endless, finish. Francis Egly's 2012 Brut Grand Cru Millésime is predictably brilliant; but it's also a serious, structured wine that will need time to unwind. Mingling notes of citrus oil, pear and stone fruit with hints of freshly baked bread, praline and baking spices, it's full-bodied, deep and multidimensional, with huge concentration and a taut, layered core. Built around a racy spine of acidity and prodigious reserves of chalky extract, it's long, precise, and remarkably fine-boned and elegant for such a powerful wine. Make no mistake, this is one of the wines of the vintage, but—like the 2008—it will demand patience. With more age on cork, however, I wouldn't be surprised if it began to close in on a three-digit score. Drink 2026 - 2050.

Ratafia de Champagne is liqueur apéritif, made with the juice of freshly-picked Champagne grapes, and fortified immediately after pressing (to prevent fermentation commencing) with grape spirit distilled from Champagne grape skins. It belongs to the same family as Cognac's Pineau des Charentes.
As with anything that is bottled by this great grower, this is not your average example of the genre! Apart from the renowned work in the vineyard, Egly uses only 100% Grand Cru, Estate-grown Pinot Noir. The fruit is sorted and pressed gently and only the finest grape spirit is added.

Disgorged in July 2020 with only one gram per liter dosage, Francis Egly's 2011 Brut Grand Cru Millésime is a brilliant wine from a frequently dismissed vintage. Unfurling in the glass with scents of golden orchard fruit, buttery pastry, dried mango, clear honey and praline, it's full-bodied, muscular and vinous, with a broad, textural attack that segues into a deep, concentrated core. Built around bright acids and complemented by a pinpoint mousse, it concludes with a long, sapid finish. In a blind tasting, this is one of a small handful of wines that would be unrecognizable as 2011s, a year that was evidently an acid test for Champenois viticulturists.

William Kelley - Wine Advocate (May 2021)The 2011 Brut Millésime Grand Cru is a very pretty wine, especially within the context of the year. Bright floral notes meld into hints of lemon confit, tangerine oil, dried flowers, sage and pastry. There is terrific freshness to the 2011, although not quite the dimension of the very best years. Even so, this is very clearly one of the finest 2011s readers will come across. I would not push my luck on aging, but there is so much to like and admire here.
