The Ambonnay based Egly-Ouriet are a reference point for grower producers in Champagne, known for their impeccable vineyard management and fastidious winemaking skills. Much of their production is raised in oak barrels, with extended aging on lees a feature. Les Vignes de Vrigny is 100% Pinot Meunier from a single, 40-year-old, south-facing vineyard in Vrigny, and is generally one of the most intense straight Meunier Champagne produced.

Other Reviews....
The NV Brut Les Vignes de Vrigny 1er Cru is gorgeous in the way it balances the natural depth of Meunier with real energy and vibrancy. Dried pear, spice and crushed flowers all open in the glass, but what impresses me about this release of Egly's pure Meunier is its translucence and finesse. The Vignes de Vrigny is so expressive and gorgeous in this release.

Antonio Galloni - Vinous

The latest rendition of Egly's NV Brut Premier Cru Les Vignes de Vrigny was disgorged in July 2019 with two grams per liter dosage after 36 months on the lees. Offering up a lovely bouquet of golden orchard fruit, dried white flowers, rock salt and a subtle touch of praline, it's medium to full-bodied, elegantly fleshy and incisive, with a deep core of racy but mature fruit, a pinpoint mousse and a penetrating finish. From a parcel of 50-year-old vines in Vrigny inherited by Francis Egly's wife, this is a beautifully elegant wine that makes for a fine introduction to the house style.

Egly-Ouriet crafts one of Champagne’s most flattering single-vineyard Pinot Meuniers, faithfully translating every detail of the succulent depth of this grape’s enticing full golden yellow hue and its fleshy Mirabelle plum, red cherry, dried pear and grapefruit character.
