Pinot Gris
One of Australia's popular upcoming varieties, "Gris" is French for "grey" and in France it finds its home in the Alsace where it produces a rich, full-bodied white with a supple, oily texture and flavours of spice, ripe citrus, peach and pear. Since the 1990s, it's been championed by a dedicated group of winemakers in Australia, with stand-out expressions from the Adelaide Hills, Mornington Peninsula and Tasmania. While most Pinot Gris are best consumed early, the best Alsatian examples can age well.
