2011 Castello di Monterinaldi Vin Santo del Chianti Classico (375ml)Tuscany, ITALY$94. 99Bottle$1139.88 DozenABV: 17%Closure: CorkThe Castle of Monterinaldi, located in Radda in Chianti, sits in the heart of the historic Chianti Classico region. Managed by the Ciampi family since 1961, the 55-hectare estate includes 18 vineyards and 38 terroirs planted with a diverse range of varieties, primarily Sangiovese. Certified organic in 2017, the estate blends tradition with modern techniques to express classic Chianti character. Wines are matured in French oak and then aged in the estate’s underground cellar to ensure quality and refinement.
Vinsanto is one of Tuscany’s most revered after-dinner wines, made from hand-picked grapes dried on trellises to naturally concentrate sugars. Once optimal ripeness is achieved—after 3 to 5 months—the grapes are pressed and the must is transferred to small oak casks stored in attics, where seasonal temperature swings drive a slow, natural fermentation. Aged undisturbed for 20 years, the result is a wine that rewards patience with remarkable depth and complexity.Other Reviews....
I'm always a huge fan of Vin Santo, and although the number of samples I receive has diminished drastically over the years because the wine has struggled to find a hold in international markets, this remains a very special category of dessert wine made by a handful of passionate producers in Tuscany. The Castello Monterinaldi 2011 Vin Santo del Chianti Classico Occhio di Pernice (in a precious 375-milliliter bottle) is 90% Sangiovese, 5% Canaiolo and 5% Trebbiano. Despite being made with mostly red grapes, it has turned a unique color somewhere between amber and dark gold with a syrupy consistency. Aromas recall forest floor, dried mushroom, honey and dried apricot. This is a tiny production of 1,200 bottles. Drink 2022 - 2045.

2022 Catena Zapata Adrianna Vineyard White Stones ChardonnayMendoza, ARGENTINA$199. 00Bottle$2388.00 DozenClosure: CorkThe Adrianna Vineyard, known as Catena Zapata’s "Grand Cru", lies at an altitude of about 1,500 meters and it's divided into several unique parcels, each with distinct soil profiles, microclimates and characteristics that contribute to the complexity of the wines.
The White Stones parcel is one of the most distinctive sections of the Adrianna Vineyard. This parcel gets its name from the large, white oval stones scattered throughout the soil. These stones, composed of alluvial deposits, play a vital role in the vineyard’s drainage and heat retention. The white stones reflect sunlight and store heat during the day, which helps maintain steady ripening conditions for the grapes, even in Mendoza’s high-altitude, cool-climate environment. This, combined with the calcareous subsoil, contributes to the parcel's hallmark minerality and precision. The wines from this parcel are known for their purity, focus, and long aging potential.
Other Reviews….
The 2022 Chardonnay Adrianna Vineyard White Stones hails from a cool and slightly dry vintage in the Uco Valley. Sourced from a small gravel and limestone plot in Gualtallary, it displays a green hue in the glass. Its aromas feature lime, green apple and herbs, with subtle notes of ginger and acacia. Dry, nimble and refreshing, the chalky texture enlivens the slightly lean palate, with a long-lasting, fruit-driven finish. A high-altitude wine, the 2022 growing season brought an extra layer of freshness to this Chardonnay. Drink 2024-2034.

Joaquín Hidalgo – VinousThis is always minerally and incisive and very different from White Bones. This is more classic chardonnay, with lots of freshly squeezed lemons, wet stone, flint and seashells. Brisk acidity on a medium- to full-bodied palate. Tense and intense, but this is acid-driven with a fine touch of salinity that lingers at the end. Drink or hold.

JamesSuckling.comAt almost 5,000-feet elevation in the cool of the region, growing deep in rocky soils, the light-bodied 2022 Chardonnay Adrianna Vineyard White Stones features compellingly grippy texture that excites the palate. Like its sister, White Bones, it sees 12-16 months in used French oak barrel, coaxing a light touch of spice from the wood. Herbal, earthy, and textural above all, it sings in buzzy acidity and yet retains a refined mouthfeel of length and complex angles, digging deep into ethereal flavors of lemon rind and wet stone. Drink now through 2042. This is incredibly delicious. Drink 2025-2042.

2022 Catena Zapata Adrianna Vineyard White Bones ChardonnayMendoza, ARGENTINA$199. 00Bottle$2388.00 DozenClosure: CorkThe Adrianna Vineyard, known as Catena Zapata’s "Grand Cru", lies at an altitude of about 1,500 meters and it's divided into several unique parcels, each with distinct soil profiles, microclimates, and characteristics that contribute to the complexity of the wines.
The name White Bones comes from the soil beneath these vines, which is rich in calcareous deposits, limestone, and fossilized animal bones—traces of an ancient river that once flowed through the area. These soils reflect a unique mineral quality in the wines, contributing to remarkable tension and complexity. Focused on Chardonnay, this parcel produces vibrant wines with intense minerality and floral aromatics.
Other Reviews….
Sourced from a parcel of the Adrianna Vineyard in Gualtallary, planted at 1,450 meters, the 2022 Chardonnay Adrianna Vineyard White Bones delivers a distinctive flavor. Crafted in a cool, sunny vintage, the chalky soils of Gualtallary lend a compact character to this high-altitude Chardonnay. Yellow in hue, it opens with aromas of hops, ivy and pea shoots, accompanied by hints of mint, sage, ginger and lime. Slightly concentrated, with vibrant energy and tension, it offers a blend of chalky texture, elevated acidity and a compact yet graceful palate. It lingers with long-lasting flavors and a subtly malic texture. This mountain white wine set a benchmark in 2009 and reaffirmed it in 2022. Drink 2024-2034.

JamesSuckling.comFrom an extreme high-altitude, grand cru-level site in the cools of Gualtallary, the 2022 Chardonnay Adrianna Vineyard White Bones is distinct in its aromas of the native jumilla that surround the site, providing an herbal, earthy invitation to the light-bodied, refined palate of gravelly texture and minerality. Light and ethereal in style, it shows its limestone roots, and just a hint of oak, given 12-16 months of aging in oak barrel, all second, third, or fourth use. This wine practically buzzes in the glass with elegance and verve. Another 20 years of aging is not unrealistic. An outstanding wine! Drink 2025-2045.

2022 Cellier Saint Benoit Arbois Pupillin La Marcette ChardonnayJura, FRANCE$220. 00Bottle$2640.00 DozenABV: 15%Closure: CorkBenjamin Benoit is fast becoming one of the Jura’s most exciting voices. Working in Pupillin with traditional methods and minimal sulphur, his site-specific wines offer a precise, elegant expression of Jura terroir. Cellier Saint Benoit sets a new standard for quality in the region.
This Chardonnay is grown on Triassic marl soils in the south of Pupillin at 335 metres altitude, on a plateau above Les Charots. The 0.5 ha vineyard is home to 65–70-year-old vines planted by Benjamin’s grandfather. La Marcette ripens earlier than neighbouring sites due to its exposure and elevation, producing concentrated fruit with lower yields. The wine is whole cluster pressed and aged in neutral oak barrels. The resulting expression is broad-shouldered yet structured, shaped by its sunny disposition and deep-rooted vine age.
Other Reviews....
The 2022 Chardonnay Arbois Pupillin La Marcette unfurls with white peach, blossom, green apple and a tropical slice of melon. From a 0.28 ha parcel of northwest-facing vines on steep (30%) slopes of classic blue marl at higher elevation than Chambines. The 70-year-old Savagnin vines were planted by previous generations and are now farmed for a topped-up, non-oxidative (ouillé) style. Sourced from Savagnin vines primarily in Les Chambines, on marl soils typical of the Jura. The wine was a barrel selection with preference given to the most restrained and tightly wound example, considered best suited for extended sous voile maturation. Aged for over nine years in a single cask stored in the domaine’s custom attic (rather than humid cellars), allowing the veil of flor to develop under more oxidative and dynamic conditions. This longer aging exceeds the legal minimum of six years, encouraging greater salinity and tertiary development. Bottled unfiltered from a single cask.

2021 Cesar Marquez Perez El Val GodelloBierzo, SPAIN$250. 00Bottle$3000.00 DozenABV: 12.5%Closure: CorkCesar Marquez has Bierzo running through his veins, and is the latest generation of the Perez family to own the leading Castro Ventosa winery in north-western Spain. Growing up around surrounded by the region's leading exponents, including a lengthy apprenticeship with one of the world's greatest winemakers, his uncle Raul Perez, has shaped much of what Cesar values in wine. While he still manages the family estate, Cezar started his own venture in 2015, and is already one of the most exciting young prospects in Spain.
Having a deep understanding and access to some of the best vineyards Bierzo has to offer, Cezar focuses on preserving purity and freshness, highlighting the promise Mencia has in the right place when made with attention to detail. Cezar is structuring his line-up of wines in Burgundian fashion, making a broader appellation wine, a village wine, along with several single vineyard offerings. Winemaking is similar on all wines, with grapes partially destemmed and fermented in open barriques, before spending 12 months in old barrels without any racking or top ups before bottling the following winter. These are wines that are not just great examples of Bierzo Mencia, but wines that truly stand shoulder to shoulder with the finest from any region or country.
El Val is a new wine of 100% Godello from a cool, high altitude vineyard, and transcends the quality limits expected of this grape in Bierzo.
Other Reviews....
The new white 2021 El Val comes from one of the coolest places in Valtuille—the same place as a new white for the family firm Castro Ventosa—with vines regrafted to old-clone Godello. It has 12.48% alcohol, very good parameters for acidity and freshness and a consistent sensation on the palate. It's from ancient vines on clay, stone and quartzite soils and fermented in one 500-liter barrel where the wine matured with the lees that were never stirred for 11 months. It's super elegant, very clean, precise, symmetric and delineated, transparent, harmonious and elegant, like a grand cru Burgundy. Bravo! The price is high, reflecting scarcity but also quality. It transcends the appellation and the variety. Only 521 bottles were produced. It was bottled in August 2022. Drink 2023-2032.

2022 Chateau d'Yquem Magnum (1500ml) Pre-Arrival OfferSauternes, Bordeaux, FRANCE$1599. 00Bottle$19188.00 DozenClosure: CorkAs the only Sauternes property classified as Premier Cru Superieur, drinking a bottle of Chateau d'Yquem is an experience unlike any other. Situated in the epicentre of prime sweet wine production in France, their unique position and wealth of soil profiles allows d'Yquem to produce wines of enormous complexity with consistent accumulation of botrytis often in years when others struggle.
The 2022 Chateau d’Yquem is a vintage shaped by extremes—the driest and hottest year on record at the estate, with an exceptionally early start to the season. Noble rot developed late, and a dramatic shift in mid-October led to rapid concentration, resulting in Yquem’s most opulent wine since 1945, with 160 g/L residual sugar. Despite the richness, meticulous blending and shorter elevage ensure remarkable freshness and balance in this extraordinary Sauternes.
Other Reviews....
A blend of 80% Sémillon and 20% Sauvignon Blanc, the 2022 d'Yquem is a strong candidate for the title of wine of the vintage. Exhibiting a remarkably delicate, complex and energetic bouquet of rose, confit citrus, exotic fruits and orange marmalade, it's full-bodied, dense and deep with a pristine balance enhanced by a fleshy core of fruit, bright acids and beautiful, gastronomic bitterness and dry extracts that segue to a long, ethereal, delicately perfumed and refined finish. Lorenzo Pasquini and his team have perfectly understood the vintage by privileging the third tries, fully exposed to Botrytis cinerea, in the blend, bringing density and precision along with an energetic and splendidly balanced interplay of bitterness and sweetness. Residual sugar levels reach 160 grams per liter, marking it as the second-highest since the iconic 1945 vintage. Drink 2034-2074.

Yohan Castaing - Wine Advocate (Jan 17, 2025)The 2022 Yquem is a blend of 80% Sémillon and 20% Sauvignon Blanc with 160 g/L residual sugar and a total acidity of 5.39 g/L. It is the first certified organic vintage for the estate and has the lowest level of total sulphur ever: 234 g/L, high within the sphere of wine but comparatively low for Sauternes. The 2022 was aged for 24 months in new barrels that underwent slightly less drying than those used for red wines in order to retain some green tannins. Given the growing season, the 2022 Yquem has a surprisingly understated bouquet that demands coaxing. Scents of orange pith, passion fruit and quince are exquisitely defined, a hint of chamomile dancing around in the background. The palate is medium-bodied. Given the high level of residual sugar, what is surprising is that the 2022 does not seem a weighty or texturally unctuous Yquem, yet there is an intensity and concentration that is arresting. Vivid flavours of clementine, wild honey, quince and tangerine that effortlessly combine. The acidity almost nonchalantly counters the sensation of residual sugar, so it feels less than it actually is, the scintilla of salinity toward the finish tempting you back for more. This is a marvellous and quite cerebral Yquem for which patience is required. Drink 2030-2100.

Neal Martin - VinousA perfect Yquem again after the 2021, which is fresher and more refined than the 2022. The perception of sweetness is super-knit. Lots of botrytis, with turmeric, saffron, cream, roasted meringue, pine nuts, spices and dried mangoes. This is a powerful, seductive and lush wine. Ornamented and richer this year than 2021, but there is so much charm and harmony. Long and spicy, with a hint of petrol at the end. Wow. The second most concentrated Yquem after 1945, according to the winemaker. About 160 grams of residual sugar. So approachable now, but better in five or six years. It will live forever.

James SucklingCombining incredible power, sweetness, and opulence with racy acidity and a touch of bitterness on the backend offsetting all the rich, honey-slathered fruits, it takes only a single sniff and sip to discern that this is one of the great vintages produced by Chateau d'Yquem. That says a lot, considering all the fabulous vintages the estate has crafted. The palate showcases its wealth of honeyed fruits alongside Indian spices and a vibrancy found in no other sweet wine. The wine envelops your palate, teeth, and gums leaving you with a zesty finish that lingers for a full 60 seconds and more! This is a legend in the making! Like all great vintages of Chateau d'Yquem, you can enjoy this with pleasure in its youth, with its sweet, ripe fruits showcasing a unique sense of honeyed purity, or you can save it for your grandchildren. Drink from 2027-2100.

2013 Chateau d'Yquem (375ml)Sauternes, Bordeaux, FRANCE$499. 00Bottle$5988.00 DozenClosure: CorkOther Reviews….
The 2013 d'Yquem is open and demonstrative, evoking aromas of apricot, saffron, musk, spices and exotic fruits, followed by a medium to full-bodied, pure and deep palate paving the way to a perfectly controlled power. The finish is animated with bright acids and a sappy, fleshy texture typical of Yquem’s clay terroirs, and while it may stand in the shadow of its Bordeaux vintage red counterpart, whose reputation has been somewhat wanting, this Sauternes deserves of praise in its own right. Drink: 2023-2060.

Yohan Castaing - Wine AdvocateBright aromas of sliced mangoes, papaya, botrytis, and lemon follow through to a full body. Medium sweet with a phenolic palate that gives the wine structure and beauty. Electric acidity and freshness combined with impressive energy and length. A strict selection was made. 40% of the production was destined to the grand vin. About 80,000 bottles made. This is 70% semillion and 30% sauvignon blanc. Better in 2018.

It was a nervous start to the 2021 vintage, with frost, hail, and mildew confronting the team in Spring. Thankfully Chateau d'Yquem was spared the worst of these impacts, largely due to their favourable geography. Two rainy spells arrived in mid-September and early October leading to generous botrytis accumulation. A three-week window followed with fine weather marked by cool, dry and sunny conditions which slowly concentrated the grapes. Harvest was completed with three successive passes of picking between 30 September and 30 October. 2021 is seen as an incredibly pure vintage, highly aromatic and seductive in these early stages of development.

The 2021 d'Yquem exhibits a complex bouquet of rose, exotic fruits and mandarin orange mingled with spring flowers, rose and crème brûlée, followed by a medium to full-bodied, ample and seamless palate that's suave and layered, with a deep core and a long finish that's lent definition by delicate bitterness that offsets the 148 grams per liter residual sugar. This blend of 65% Sémillon and 35% Sauvignon Blanc was matured, as usual, in all new barrels, but the new oak is perfectly integrated and barely noticeable. Drink 2030 - 2050.

Yohan Castaing - Wine Advocate (Feb 09, 2024)The 2021 Yquem was tasted in Amsterdam, the first wine poured at a lunch, thereby allowing me a longer period to examine it. Slightly burnished in hue, it has a very attractive bouquet with scents of dried quince, clementine, linseed and subtle candle wax, perhaps more discrete than usual, but certainly fresh and vibrant. The palate is medium-bodied and viscous on the entry, a Yquem with perhaps a lighter chassis than recent vintages, prioritizing poise and purity over horsepower— exactly the right approach in such a challenging season. It opens wonderfully in the glass, gaining more frangipane and kaki fruit scents, though it seems to have a lighter and more tensile finish than the 2020 or 2019. As such, I suspect that it will be comparatively approachable and, of course, delicious. Readers should note that I will probably re-taste the 2021 in Bordeaux during primeur. Drink 2030 - 2060.

Neal Martin - VinousDreamy, subtle aromas of dried fruit such as apricots and mangoes, but also fresh lemons and pears. Then there are caramel and tart tatin undertones with some bananas, pineapple, tangerines and other tropical fruit. Full-bodied, yet it remains vivid and compact, giving it a lightness even though it is really structured. The tannins are throughout the palate but blend in perfectly, giving it a solid presence, like a a diamond. It’s tight at the end, but you know that it will linger for ages, with a lightly chewy and intellectual finish. Touches of sweetness, cloves and bitterness to make it interesting. Dynamic. About 54,000 bottles made. Relatively small harvest. 148 g/L residual sugar.

James SucklingThe complex aromatic profile explodes from the glass with pineapple, papaya, apricot, Meyer lemon, tangerine peels, caramel, honey, vanilla, saffron, cashews, and candied grapefruit in the aromatic profile. The palate resides perfectly in the middle of hedonism, and vibrancy. Clearly, there is ample sweetness, but the racy acidity provides incredible lift, energy, and length. The fruit expresses purity in its tangerines, oranges, mango, papaya, banana, and pineapples all slathered in honey. This is one of those Yquem's that can be enjoyed either as a sweet wine, or due to its vibrancy, with a diverse array of savory, and spicy dishes. Produced from a blend of 65% Semillon and 35% Sauvignon Blanc, 148 Grams per liter, 14% ABV, 3.79 pH. Yields were only 8 hectoliters per hectare. The harvest took place over an extended time, September 12 - October 27, with 4 passes in total. Lisa Perrotti-Brown - The Wine IndependentTutankhamun gold, maybe a hint of buttercup. I find this more direct and intense than the 2020. Yet this is also a wine that exudes balance and harmony, even at this nascent stage. Beautifully limpid and with a disguised natural power. Supremely aerial. Green apple skin. Saffron. Fresh ginger. A hint of confit ginger too. Lime. White grapefruit. A touch of fleur de sel. Marzipan. White almonds. Mango. Guava. Passionfruit. Pineapple – entirely pure and crisply fresh. All in great purity. This is floral, too. Mimosa. Buttercup (almost the leitmotif here). On the palate I find this tight and tense, yet so incredibly softly textured. And, above all, intense and captivating. Sparklingly striking and dynamic – and held together by the salinity as much as by the acidity, the two in fact working together, giving this an incredible aging potential. Delicate in its intensity. Sapid and with lovely waves of saline-inflected juicy fluidity. Even now this is a wine of very considerable complexity – built from assembling the finest botrytised grapes from the best of the couronne (the crown) of Bommes (with the Château of Yquem at the epicentre). This finishes with the most glorious bitter sugar note – burnt caramel just perfectly on the edge of bitterness. So accessible but so totally ageless and, for now, almost cool in its freshness.

2020 was another in the trio of warm and dry vintages for Sauternes, and the team at d'Yquem ended up picking the grapes in two main periods starting with much of the Sauvignon Blanc in late September. This was followed by the bulk of the botrytised grapes from 18th October. The final blend is a very classic 75% Semillon and 25% Sauvignon Blanc, with 135g/L residual sugar perfectly balanced by ample ripe acidity giving definition to the complex fruit profile.

The 2020 Château d'Yquem a blend of 75% Sémillon and 25% Sauvignon Blanc. It has 135 grams per liter of residual sugar and a pH of 3.79. Pale lemon-gold colored, citrus and baking spice notes emerge slowly from the glass, rising to offer well-defined scents of candied ginger, orange blossoms, allspice, and almond tart, leading to a flamboyant core of peach cobbler, ripe, juicy pineapple, jasmine tea, and apple butter with a waft of saffron. The palate is full-bodied and characteristically rich, yet possesses impressive tension and therefore stunning harmony. Layers of exotic spices and fragrant white flower accents fill the palate, leading to a long finish with lingering chalk and mineral nuances. It’s a showy Yquem that is gregarious in youth but is reserving that extra something for those with the patience to wait twenty years or more.

Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW - The Wine IndependantOn the fresh, bright vibrant, racy side of the style range with a focus on its complex core of honeysuckle, dried oranges, apricots, lemon curd, saffron, marzipan, pineapple, vanilla, and just the right drizzle of honey to top everything off. It is cut, and defined, with length, purity, lift, and ample acidities giving lift, length, and vibrancy, as well as richness, balance, and complexity. I love this style of d'Yquem because it works as a sweet wine that can be enjoyed either on its own or with a myriad of savory courses. So, if you cannot keep your hands off it, enjoy it on the young side for all its luscious, sweet, ripe, overripe, racy fruits, or age it for decades as it gains secondary nuances. Lisa Perrotti-Brown - Wine Advocate (March 2019)A very classic Yquem. Breathtakingly wide spectrum of floral honey, exotic fruit (passion fruit, mango and pineapple), caramel and marzipan aromas. Pale to medium gold colored, the 2007 d'Yquem delivers powerful scents of tropical fruits—dried mangoes and pineapple paste—accented by acacia honey, toasted almonds and woodsmoke with hints of chalk dust, kettle corn and lime blossom. 2020 Chateau de Beauregard Pouilly-Fuisse La Marechaude Premier CruBurgundy, FRANCE$115. 00Bottle$1380.00 DozenABV: 13.5%Closure: CorkFrederic Burrier and his family own the historic Chateau de Beauregard and the small but equally important Chateau du Clos, both based in Pouilly, along with half ownership of Domaine de la Rochette based in Milly-Lamartine. Frederic is a staunch supporter of the wines of Pouilly, and led the commission into the possibility of premier crus for appellation. Winemaking is very traditional, and while he has tried newer methods and equipment, Frederic prefers the results he gets by crushing the grapes prior to using his Vaslin hydraulic press. As of 2020 vintage, many of the plots worked in Pouilly are now classified as premier cru.
Other Reviews....
The 2020 Pouilly-Fuissé La Maréchaude 1er Cru, from clay-limestone soils, is the one cuvée that seemed to just miss a bit of tension and energy on the nose, surprising as it showed so well 12 months earlier. Perhaps an off-day? The palate is much more like it: focused and saline, touches of orange rind, yellow plum and peach skin, grapefruit towards the tensile finish. Give this a couple of years in bottle for the aromatics to unfurl. Drink 2025-2036.

Neal Martin - VinousAn overtly exotic nose is comprised by notes of mostly dried yellow fruit that are trimmed in enough oak to mention. The plush, seductive and exceptionally round and fleshy flavors that possess fine mid-palate density before terminating in a bitter lemon and slightly warm finish. While the description of this wine admittedly does not sound completely harmonious, there is good potential here for a wine in a riper style. Drink 2024+.

The 2023 Doisy-Daëne, a blend of 80% Sémillon and 20% Sauvignon Blanc, takes time to unfurl on the nose. Notes of lemon curd, dried peach and a touch of marmalade are all nicely defined, developing subtle pithy elements with aeration. The palate is just wonderful. James SucklingPale gold with vibrant edging, starts with concentrated and intense clove spices, luscious apricot fruit, opening to show juicy, sculpted slivers of steel and lime juice. A return to form for this excellent Barsac wine after the succulent but unbalanced 2022. Great stuff from this legendary Dubourdieu property, although once again the yields are extremely low and the character is more concentrated than you find in vintages like 2021. Ageing starts with 10 months in oak barrels, followed by 9 months in stainless steel tank before bottling.

The 2023 Doisy-Védrines doesn't quite deliver the complexity of the Doisy-Daëne on the nose, though it opens nicely with aeration to reveal lemon sherbet, saffron and light tangerine aromas. It is not as immediate as other Sauternes in this vintage, but it does exude elegance. The palate is well balanced with a very pure, tensile opening. This seems to be a less "fat" Doisy-Védrines compared to other vintages, possessing a fine bead of acidity. It’s lightly spiced with a tang of marmalade and quince toward the finish. This is a noble Barsac in the making. Drink 2027-2060.

2024 Chateau Grand Village Blanc Pre-Arrival OfferBordeaux, FRANCE$59. 99Bottle$719.88 DozenClosure: CorkGiven they are under the same ownership of the Guinaudau family, Chateau Grand Village is often referred to as Chateau Lafleur’s second vineyard. Situated on the edge of the Fronsac region and classified as Bordeaux Superieur, the vineyard is planted to 79% Merlot and 21% Bouchets (Cabernet Franc). 2023 Chateau Guiraud G Bordeaux Blanc SecBordeaux, FRANCE$36. 99Bottle$443.88 DozenCellar: Drink now - 6 Years (2024-2030)ABV: 13.5%Closure: Diam CorkA certified organic Bordeaux blend of 40% Sauvignon Blanc and 60% Semillon fermented in old Sauternes oak barrels and aged for 6 months on lees to give the wine more volume and textural appeal. The fruit is primarily sourced from a vineyard that was planted to Sauvignon Blanc by accident around 40 years ago. (For their Sauternes, Guiraud were after a Semillon-heavy cuvee - too much Sauvignon Blanc was not considered the right balance for a sweet wine). Instead of selling off the Sauvignon or re-planting, Guiraud decided to create a special dry white and the “G” was born.
Brilliant pale straw colour with a subtle greenish tinge around the edges and a watery hue. Aromas of green apple and lime have a subtle herbaceous gooseberry overlay with hints of grassy asparagus characters and light pencil shaving notes also evident. Intensely flavoured and beautifully shaped, the palate features pear, lime and herbaceous gooseberry flavours over a back drop of delicate pencil shavings, grassy asparagus characters and spice. Great textural volume and crisp acidity rounding out to a long, dry and highly savoury conclusion.

2020 Chateau Haut-Bergeron Sauternes (375ml)Sauternes, Bordeaux, FRANCE$39. 99Bottle$479.88 DozenCellar: Drink now - 6 Years (2023-2029)ABV: 13.5%Closure: Diam CorkMany experts consider Chateau Haut Bergeron to be the best of the non classified Sauternes. Part of the secret of the success of Robert Lamothes and his sons Patrick and Herue is the terroir. The 28 hectare vineyard is split on such a way, that part of the vines are in Barsac, (next to Chateau Climens), part are at Preignac and a large slice next to Chateau d’Yquem. At one stage the label used to boast this fact, with the words 'CONTIGU d’YQUEM'. Son, Herue is a dedicated and passionate winemaker who ages wine in 25% to 50% new oak casks. The exact percentage depends upon the vintage conditions. The 2020 vintage comes replete with special packaging to celebrate 200 years of the Lamothe family being vignerons.
Brilliant pale gold core with golden tinged edges. Potent honey drenched ripe peach and apricot aromas mix with marmalade, dried pineapple and spice notes. Rich and lusciously textured, the palate features honeyed peach and apricot flavours alongside sweet ripe pineapple, marmalade and candied citrus characters. Outstanding power and depth finishing very long with ample freshness and mouth feel.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.

Pale gold in color, the 2020 Haut-Bergeron has a seductive nose of honey-drizzled peaches, baked pineapple and candied ginger, plus hints of coriander seed and candle wax. The palate delivers with tropical fruit and citrusy goods with a racy backbone and earthy accents, finishing with a compelling burst of freshness. Drink 2024-2040.

Lisa Perrotti-Brown – Robert Parker’s The Wine AdvocateThe 2020 Haut-Bergeron is a very pretty, alluring Sauternes. It offers up hints of orange marmalade, apricot, passionfruit and lightly burnt sugar, with no hard edges and fine balance. Drink 2023-2030.

Antonio Galloni - VinousThe 2020 Haut-Bergeron, which incidentally comes with a special label to celebrate its bicentenary, has a very pure and perfumed nose with dried honey, white peach, saffron and Japanese yuzu. Impressive delineation. The palate is well-balanced with impactful concentration, pretty spicy with stem ginger and lemongrass. Very fine. Drink 2024-2040.
