2024 Chateau Coutet Pre-Arrival Offer

One of the superstars of Barsac, the wines are typically noted for their elegance and style rather than weight and richness. At 38.5 hectares in size, Coutet is one of the largest vineyards in the region, with plantings consisting of 75% Semillon, 23% Sauvignon Blanc and 2% Muscadelle. Fermentation takes place in barrel of which 50% are new with further ageing in oak for 18 months.

The 2024 Coutet was picked over six tries although the final ones were not used with 134 g/L residual sugar this year. It has quite an intense bouquet with beautifully defined lemon thyme and light peach aromas. The palate is well balanced with a vivacious opening, lively apricot and quince notes and concentration effortlessly offset by the silver thread of acidity. Composed and persistent on the finish, this is a superb Coutet. Drink 2028-2055.

Orange blossom and lemon rind on the nose, soft and gentle aromatics. Clean and fresh, this has a lovely purity to it, not so sweet with some bitterness that comes in on the mid palate but this has a sleek frame and good definition to the elements. Pear, peach and a hint of honeyed orange. Pure and pristine. Drink 2026 - 2040.
