2009 Signatory Vintage Speyside (M) 15 Year Old Small Batch Edition #19 Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
"...the distillery's 15yo at double the price should be very ashamed!" - whiskybase.com
Following on from Signatory's Macallan 13YO 100 Proof (one of the single malt buys of the year), we up the ante with an even bigger age statement at the same direct import price! There have been at least three editions of Speyside (M), Andrew Symington's small batch 'Mystery' Macallan at high strength, all bottled in 2025 and each true to the distillery's traditional style. Full-term maturation in first and second fill Oloroso sherry butts has bestowed that 'calling card' auburn-red hue, with Edition #19 described by one taster as "Rich and syrupy with black cherries, spiced orange, dark chocolate, and a twinge of balsamic reduction, earthy tobacco and roasted nuts rounding it out beautifully." Others say it leans towards the sweet spice end of the Macallan spectrum. There are marginal differences of opinion, but all agree regarding the freak value. We're living in a whisky world where Macallan 15YO now costs upwards of $300 per bottle. If the distillery even offered a high strength expression it would easily land over $500. As with all Signatory releases, these gems are un-chill filtered - another point of difference to official Macallans. Whatever Signatory have left in their inventory won't keep up with demand. Don't think twice about grabbing these bottlings while you can. 48.2% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.
