The 2019 Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Spätlese is very delicate and intense on the ripe and aromatic, well-concentrated and flinty bouquet with delicate slate and herbal aromas. Enormously complex and endless salty on the palate, this is a persistent, structured and sustainable ZSU with great aging potential. Tasted at the domain in September 2020.

Theoretically, wine can’t smell mineral, but this Spätlese certainly has an intense wet-stone character. Then, mandarin-orange, jasmine and fresh-ginger notes develop. Still tightly wound, and also very focused and clean through the long, crystalline finish. Discreet hint of sweetness. Drinkable now, but better from 2023.

The 2019 Graacher Himmelreich Kabinett is precise and flinty on the coolish, herbal and serious nose. Round and juicy on the palate, this is a very intense, sweet and quite powerful yet structured and grippy Kabinett with piquant acidity and good tension. Needs time.

Stephan Reinhardt - Wine Advocate (Oct 2020)

Although this is still very youthful, there’s already lots of sliced pear and white peach on the nose with a hint of wet earth. Quite a generous Kabinett, but with the distinctive raciness of the category, this already gives so much, but has excellent aging potential. Very long finish with just a hint of apple rings sauteed in butter, suggesting the ripeness of the vintage.

The 2019 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Auslese is deep and intense on the nicely reductive yet concentrated and spicy-mineral nose that reveals a flinty/crunchy slate aroma with generous but elegant and refined fruit and subtle grapefruit aromas. On the palate, this Auslese displays a fine raisin aroma of perfectly ripe and overripe Riesling grapes, whereas the textured is highly finessed and beautifully balanced. This is impossible to spit, as the crystalline acidity is so delicate and interwoven with the fruit and texture of this persistently salty beauty. Tasted at the domain in September 2020.

The most beautiful tropical flowers (so much hibiscus!) pour from the glass of this graceful giant. Stunning concentration and also some baby fat, but also a great structure and it needs all of those to age for many decades, as it surely will.

Great interplay between delicate exotic-fruit aromas and cool, northerly elements (also apples and fresh herbs) in the nose and on the medium-bodied, concentrated palate, the acidity very bright and stony and driving the very long, whiplash finish. There is some natural grape sweetness in there, but you barely notice it.

Still some yeastiness from the wild ferment, but this opens beautifully with aeration. A entire botanic garden of flowers of all colors and origins. Concentrated, yet so filigree and delicate, the finish super long and as refreshing as an Alpine stream. Perfect balance in this delightful no-man’s land between dry and sweet.

The 2019 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Auslese (Gold Capsule) is very clear and fine on the floral and highly delicate nose. Piquant and fresh on the palate, this is a concentrated, fresh and salty, straight and precise Auslese with concise acidity and lemon chutney notes on the piquant and grippy finish. Welcome to one of the most beautiful faces of the Mosel. Essence of yellow fruit, from peach through mango to papaya. So concentrated, yet so vibrant and so pristine with such a mind-boggling number of nuances that your nervous system is pushed to the limit, in the nicest possible way. The generous sweetness is already well integrated, but this is made for the many decades to come. Drinkable now, but better from 2025.

The 2018 Graacher Himmelreich Auslese is still discreet but deep and vegetal on the coolish and still slightly reductive nose that opens up slowly with aeration. There is an expressive slate character here and coolish precision in terms of fruit flavors. Classy on the first palate, this is a crystalline, elegant and piquant, vital and crunchy Auslese that dinks quite well even in its youth. Based on the wine's density and piquancy, however, I recommend to cellar it for at least a decade. Tasted at the domain in September 2020.

Stephan Reinhardt - Wine Advocate (Oct 2020)

To my surprise, this delivered more effusive as well as decadent floral perfume than many a non-Himmelreich Prüm 2018, along with less of the citricity that I associate with this site. No doubt partly in consequence of those factors, there is a stronger sense of sheer sweetness here than in the other Auslesen of this collection. But of course, it is very early days for assessing a Prüm Himmelreich Auslese, that description being among those most consistently associated with ageworthiness on the Mosel. Scents and palate presence of fading lily blossom, Golden Delicious apple essence, overripe quince and Persian melon combine for a decadently heady and rich performance, with a glossy, creamy texture and prominent sweetness managing to avoid heaviness or stickiness en route to a caressingly and envelopingly lingering finish.

In a striking and delightful contrast to its superb Badstube counterpart, this Himmelreich Kabinett offers a cooling and overtly citric personality. Lemon and grapefruit are suffused with green herbal essences, accompanied by yeast and wet stone on the nose and an adjunct of juicy ripe honeydew on the polished, delicate, sorbet-like palate. Piquancy of citrus zest and seeds is restrained but invigoratingly efficacious, and the generously juicy finish is admirably transparent to underlying wet stone.

The 2018 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Kabinett offers a deep and flinty, stony and herbal bouquet that needs some time to open up. Remarkably deep and complex, round and textured on the palate, this is a charming, mouth-filling and intense WSU with serious grip and length. Still far from being evolved, this is a richer, more complex Kabinett that will start to impress in 5-10 years. Stimulatingly salty on the finish. Tasted at the domain in September 2020.

Stephan Reinhardt - Wine Advocate (Oct 2020)

Heady scents of honeysuckle and heliotrope mingle with apple, quince and Persian melon. Succulent fruitiness and wafting perfume are complemented by a creamy feel on the delicate palate. Subtle nuttiness and discreet fruit seed piquancy serve for stimulating counterpoint, leading into a lusciously lingering, slate-lined finish. The exuberantly juicy, vibrant, bell-clear finish offers a lightly shimmering suggestion of fruit/stone interplay. At any given Prädikat level, the Prüms’ offering from the Wehlener Sonnenuhr – while in the long run often “best of show” – can frequently prove less expressive in its first year, but such is definitely not the case here!

The 2018 Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Spätlese is precise and remarkably refined on the subtle yet complex, terroir-driven and slightly flinty nose. Rich and piquant on the palate, with a vital acidity exposition and crunchy grip, this is a serious and sustainably structured Spätlese from "the other" Sonnenuhr. The finish is so mineral that it tastes almost dry and if not now in 10 or 20 years. This is a great ZSU to be served in a decade or two. Tasted at the domain in September 2020.

Honeysuckle and heliotrope garland lightly poached pear and quince on a seductively scented nose and a creamy, slightly syrupy but delicate palate. Marzipan and hazelnut cream lend a confectionary cast. Into the finish, though, rushes sufficient fresh pear and apple juiciness to refresh, while subtle piquancy of their seeds and a hint of black tea smokiness serve for welcome counterpoint and pushback to the sweetness. While it’s not as effusively ripe as its Wehlener counterpart nor as brightly engaging as this collection’s Graacher Himmelreich Spätlese, this lusciously lingering beauty has a long life ahead of it, even by estate standards.

Scents of quince and apple jelly are accompanied by a surprisingly greenhouse-like evocation of diverse flowers and foliage. I say “surprisingly” because many of the Prüm 2018s deliver an especially heady, sweet, and often even decadent sort of floral perfume. Honeydew and Persian melons supply extremely ripe yet freshly juicy fruit that, when combined with the confitured quince and apple, make for an exceedingly luscious midpalate impression, reinforced by textural gloss and prominent but not excessive sweetness. The finish lingers impressively, reprising a welcome inner-mouth hint of flower shop. Look for this to deliver much more in future and to enjoy at least the typical ageworthiness of a Prüm Wehlener Auslese, if not more.

This projects another dimension of clarity, levity and understated complexity from the already impressive Rieslings that preceded it in the 2015 Prüm lineup. Honeysuckle, heliotrope and apple blossom perfumes atop ripe apple and quince capture the attention on the nose, then segue to a near-weightless, subtly creamy, yet generously juicy palate. Wet stone and bittersweet, smoky hickory and walnut oils serve for counterpoint on a prodigiously prolonged, luscious finish.

The 2015 Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Spätlese has a clear and discreet, but very deep and elegant fruit aroma that indicates a cool smokiness of crushed stones. This Riesling is very clear, piquant and elegant on the palate, with a gorgeously lush fruit and lingering salinity and mineral grip. This is an excellent, well-concentrated and expressive terroir Riesling from the other Sonnenuhr. Now the Wehlener needs all its charms, because otherwise the Zeltinger is Prüm's Spätlese king in 2015.

The Prum 2009 Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Auslese mingles spiced apple, papaya, pink grapefruit, cassis, and white raisin in a lush, creamily-textured, pungently botrytis-tinged performance full-throated from nose through peacock’s finishing flourish, and hard to beat for sheer diversity and audacity of fruit. If you’re looking for nuance of for characteristics that might be described as in any sense “mineral,” then perhaps in a dozen years you’ll find them here, otherwise search elsewhere. But in reality this is a wine that deserves a long time in the cellar and is apt to retain and add to its present virtues over a 30 year period.

This is a beauty. The wine is airy and refined, yet exhibits an exotic touch in the form of subdued notes of pineapple, yellow fruits and mango blended into sappy notes of peach and gooseberry. It is remarkably delineated on the palate, with great aromatic depth and precision. The finish is sappy, airy with great intensity in the after-taste. This is very much work in progress and could easily warrant a higher rating with further aromatic integration and presence. 2019-2034

Cheesy fermentative overtones give way to a site-typical amalgam of fresh apple garlanded in honeysuckle and heliotrope. This is another of those Prüm Kabinetts that is watery in a positive sense of that word, combining watercolor-like transparency and wash of flavor with delicacy and refreshment. As with the corresponding Graacher, the finishing sense of wet stone and floral perfume is striking, and here a mouthwatering hint of salinity adds significantly to the appeal.

Heady scents of lily, heliotrope, quince preserves and apple jelly set the stage for a creamy, buoyant palate performance similarly dominated by billowing floral perfume and rich fruit confiture. Although the harmonious, lusciously layered finish lacks the clarity of the corresponding Zeltinger, it displays superb persistence and incorporates a mouthwatering suffusion of mineral salts. Here is another instance where the Prüms’ general observation almost certainly holds true: Wehlener Sonnenuhr needs longer to show its potential than a wine of identical Prädikat from one of their other sites.

A whiff of smoke at first, but the nose slowly unfurls. As enormous as it is brilliant, and the interplay of the components is about as sensually ravishing as wine gets. The freshness at the finish is devastatingly beautiful and doesn't want to stop. Better from 2020 and will age for half a century.

2013 is seen by the Prum family as the finest vintage since the legendary 1976 vintage, and uniquely this year one with only Auslese wines commercially released. A long, slow ripening season with a very late harvest with high levels of botrytis has created wines with added richness and depth, but also high levels of ripe acidity. These will be extremely long lived wines, but approachable young, and each expressing their vineyard origin with exacting clarity.

“Despite the high concentration, mainly achieved by the remarkable noble rot, which often requires much more patience in the early stage of development, these wines are opening earlier than we expected and are already very attractive now. The botrytis is very clean and clear, the aromas and flavors intense and juicy, and the vibrant acidity gives the wines a surprising freshness. These [are] unique wines with their extreme intensity and tension…” -Katharina Prüm

The 2013 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese offers a noble sweet, very fine aroma of wet and flinty stones intertwined with grapefruit and lemon aromas. Lovely sweet and intense, but also delicate on the palate, this medium to full-flavored 7.5% alcohol wine reveals a great elegance and finesse and finishes with delicately juicy, grapefruit aromas. (I tasted AP number #15 14.)

Pale golden yellow. Sublime aromas of apricot, white lime and brown spices. In spite of the rich, glossy nectarine fruit, refreshing acidity makes this Auslese appear light and superbly elegant. With a lively spice character animating the long, sweet, delicate finish, this is my favorite of the standard Ausleses.

Katharina's 2016 Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Spätlese (AP 06 17) is super clear, precise and aromatic on the nose, showing good concentration that is perfectly interwoven with the smoky minerality of the Sonnenuhr. Super lush and round on the palate, this is a gorgeously rich and supple Spätlese with remarkable finesse and elegance. The acidity is ripe and fully integrated. The Zeltinger drinks perfectly today—and it won't survive in any cellar, because you just can't resist it.

Fresh apple garlanded in honeysuckle and heliotrope sets the tone for a generously juicy, subtly creamy palate seductively loaded with inner-mouth floral perfume and leading to an inhalative, delicate but seriously sustained finish vividly underlain with wet stone and tinged with bittersweet, smoky nut oils and mouthwatering salinity.

Lithe, with lots of jasmine and saffron notes behind the fresh-cut apple, lemon oil and pear flavors. Very bright and vibrant, showing a good amount of zesty acidity, which connects the mineral, floral and fruit elements and brings this to a lovely equilibrium on the finish. Drink now through 2036.

The 2017 Graacher Himmelreich Auslese is coolish, bright and fresh on the still-reductive but attractive nose with its fine Riesling and slate aromas. The wine is salty-piquant and terribly fresh on the palate, with very fine Riesling and crispy-salty slate expressions. This Auslese is highly refined, crystalline and more intellectual compared to the Badstube, but hedonists would take it as well. A gorgeous, highly digestible Auslese. Tasted in March 2019.

This was the first – among very few – wines in the 2015 Prüm lineup to lead with a bit of yeasty fermentative “Mosel stink,” but that veil soon parted more than sufficiently to showcase an alliance of ripe honeydew melon with cassis, grapefruit, and hints of cress and lemon peel that subsequently lend incisive, piquant invigoration on a delicate, polished, infectiously juicy palate. Penetrating and sharply focused, but without its efficacious and enlivening acids turning at all aggressive, the tinglingly, refreshingly citric yet soothing and cooling finish serves up a shimmering array of stony, smoky, alkaline and crystalline nuances.

Prüm's 2015 Graacher Himmelreich Spätlese is clear, intense and flinty on the nose, very precise but well concentrated; however, it is the most reductive of the Spätlese quartet. Round and piquant, with a stimulating fruit and salinity, this is a very well-defined, crystalline and straight Spätlese of great finesse and elegance. It needs five years or so to unfold all its talents, but it can surely age for 20 or 30 years.

Apple jelly, pear preserves and caramel studded with white raisin and candied citrus peels make for an aromatic display of head-turning intensity and a creamy, glycerol-rich palate of similarly remarkable concentration and allure. A vein of fresh apple and grapefruit is tapped to introduce unexpected primary juiciness into the layers of confitured, lightly torrefied and desiccated fruit concentrates, and the extraordinarily long, mouthwateringly salt-tinged finish also affords glimpses of smoky and stony mineral nuances rare in a Riesling this rich. There’s no youthful reticence to this Wehlener! The share of botrytis here was minimal, according to Katharina Prüm.

The 2015 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Auslese Gold Capsule (AP 20) is still pretty reductive and flinty on the nose and needs a lot of aeration. Sweet and concentrated, with a fine botrytis and grapefruit flavor, this Riesling has tight structure, mouth-watering fruit and good acidity. There is also an endless flow of salts and stones. This is a very promising Auslese, whose structure and mineral expression give the wine an almost dry taste. This is great Riesling to be served no earlier than 2027.

Served from the 375-milliliter bottle, the 2016 Bernkasteler Lay Auslese (Gold Capsule) displays a discreet bouquet that needs its time to open up. It's pretty reductive at this early stage (March 2018). The attack on the palate is racy and fresh, and the wine is filigreed and precise, very clear and fresh in the well-structured finish. This (AP 05 17) is a lovely Auslese version that is on par with the bright, light and filigreed Badstube Kabinett. It's a delicious Riesling bottled at 7.5% alcohol.

Dark cherry mingles with root beer and an infusion of mint in this forwardly fragrant and luscious, envelopingly rich Auslese. Suggestions of honeydew melon liqueur, candied green herbal concentrates and a touch of salted caramel add to the opulent, overripe impression conveyed on a glycerol-rich palate, leading to a concentrated and impressively sustained finish, albeit one that carries a bit more obvious sense of sheer sweetness than is typical at this address. Thankfully, a sense of juicy fresh-fruitedness persists as well.

Prominent scents of honeysuckle and heliotrope accompany hints of quince and apple jellies, which then assume a subtly caramelized tone on a palate of rich creaminess that nevertheless boasts fresh apple juiciness and utmost transparency to wet stone, mineral salts and haunting floral perfume. What a fantastic bouquet! The 2016 Graacher Himmelreich Auslese Gold Capsule is super deep, intense and precise on the nose where flinty/stony notes and very fine (and slightly spicy) raisin and grapefruit aromas are displayed. Rich, lush and super sexy on the palate, with highly delicate but intense and persistent fruit and very fine salinity, this is a gorgeous Auslese from the winner of the 2016 vintage chez Prüm: Graacher Himmelreich. This gold-capsuled Auslese (AP 10 17) is rich, finessed and almost weightless in its intensity. The salty and piquant acidity is alive and kicking. You can hardly produce a better Auslese in this delicate and filigreed style. 8% alcohol.

Heady scents of ripe honeydew melon, muskmelon and quince betray enhanced ripeness and a hint of botrytis vis-à-vis the corresponding “regular” Auslese, as does a hint of caramel that emerges on the creamy, lusciously fruited palate. There is a trade-off here in that one misses the floral and brightly fresh-fruited dimensions that characterize most of this Prüm collection. A hint of pineapple serves for some finishing tang, but presents a syrupy impression on this bottling’s impressively persistent finish.

Despite a faintly cheesy, reductive “Mosel stink,” fresh apple and pineapple project a penetratingly fragrant as well as tangy personality to this polished, glossy, buoyant bottling. For now, it lacks the clarity, precision or interest of the corresponding Kabinett, but it’s obviously early days, especially in consideration of the glacial pace at which Prüm wines often evolve. The 2016 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Auslese (AP 13 17) is clear, fresh and vegetal/floral on the pretty complex but clear and refreshingly flinty nose. Bottled with 8.5% alcohol, this is a lush, piquant and well-structured Spätlese with good grip and a perceptible sweetness. The finish is intense and complex and reveals a firm mineral structure.

Heady scents of honeysuckle and heliotrope vie for attention with ripe pear and quince. The creamy palate is enveloping and loaded with inner-mouth perfume; hints of mint, sage and pink grapefruit lend cooling and exotic allure. (I know it will strike some people as sacrilege to suggest this, but imagine that a bit of Scheurebe has been blended in.) This finishes with luscious intensity, if for now not the striking transparency of the corresponding Graacher Himmelreich.

Pure, flying like a butterfly across the palate, this starts with mineral and floral notes up front, but unfolds to show multiple layers of flavor, remaining seductive throughout. The peach, glazed pear and honey flavors are perfectly balanced, with power and force seemingly reserved. Shows nice expression. Drink now through 2037.

Stunning succulence and subtlety. The concentration and power are completely underplayed until you get to the brain-rattling finish of this Mosel masterpiece. Drink or hold.

Almost floral aromas open the pure and fresh 7% alcohol 2013 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese Gold Capsule and intermixes flavors of wet stones, lemons and limes. On the palate this is an electrifying signature Riesling of 2013: sweet, lush and piquant and always precise, though super-concentrated. The finish is complex and long, always salty and stimulating. This is surely a wine made for decades.

Superb depth and intensity. Love the aromas of dried apricot and lemon with minerals and hints of dry ice. Full body. Fabulous fruit yet fresh and agile. Medium sweet. Drink or hold. Better to decant if you drink it young.

Golden yellow. Ethereal aromas of strawberry, acacia honey and brown spices waft over delicate smoky botrytis. Deft, sweet apricot fruit with refined acidity give this wine an airy texture in spite of its honeyed depth. Intense minerality ensures a convincingly long and spicy finish. A great effort, this is one of the finest Ausleses made in the vintage.

Fresh lemon, grapefruit, quince preserves and crème de cassis combine for an attention-getting nose and a polished, rich, but insistently bright and juicy palate. The freshness and invigorating tang of citrus and apple are rare for an Auslese, but quince jelly and candied citrus peels simultaneously project confitured concentration. The seductively luscious finish is more soothing and less dynamic than that of the remarkable corresponding Spätlese, but even longer.

The 2015 Graacher Himmelreich Auslese (AP 16) displays a very clear, precise and flinty/smoky bouquet of perfectly ripe stone fruits and crushed stones, intertwined with lemon flavors. This Auslese is enormously mouth-watering, incredibly piquant and salty, with an endless flow of lush fruit juice and melting minerals. This is a great Riesling and a digestible, picture-book Auslese.

Quite closed on the nose, but this is already gorgeous on the palate. The myriad ripe fruits are so precisely delineated, the acidity so vital and urgent that if you drink it now you'd still be stunned in spite of missing some of the riches it has to offer. Everything is perfectly in place, and the finish is literally breathtaking.

A faint, yeasty veil needs to clear. Ripe apple and quince are garlanded in honeysuckle and lily and met by a hint of mango more predictable at this level of ripeness than were the tropical effusions harbored by the corresponding Kabinett. Strikingly creamy as well as delicate, the midpalate adds bright lime juiciness, apple seed piquancy and bittersweet vanilla bean, all of which go on to inform a lusciously ripe yet vibrant and refreshing finish. This is lovely, but it does illustrate what the Prüms consider typical youthful Wehlener Sonnenuhr behavior, insofar as it’s not quite as expressive or possessed of the same intrigue today as are the corresponding Zeltinger Sonnenuhr or (despite its initially veiled nose) the Graacher Himmelreich. (There was also an auctioned Himmelreich Auslese Goldkapsel, but I have not had opportunity to taste it.)

Challenged by the 2015 Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Spätlese, the 2015 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Spätlese (AP 13) gives all its charm to keep its legendary number one status among the Jay-Jay classics. In fact, the 2015 opens with a very clear, fine and floral bouquet of white fruits, flowers and weathered slate. It's sweet, lush and juicy on the seductive palate, with a piquant acidity and tight, but still very elegant structure. This is a gorgeous Spätlese that has more sweetness and charm compared to the Zeltingen Spätlese; the latter is more straight, piquant and mineral, with less fruit flesh and sensuality, but intellectual ambitions.

Probably the finest 2015 spätlese from J.J. Prum, but the nose is still a bit closed. Sensational clarity and vibrancy on the palate, the mineral finish super-long and refined. Better from 2018 and a long future ahead of it.

The 2016 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Auslese (Gold Capsule) is clear, fine and subtle yet concentrated, with vegetal and ripe fruit aromas. Rich, round and piquant, this is an intense and densely woven Auslese (AP 14 17) with a long, tensioned and refreshing mineral finish that lifts the sweet fruit. Gorgeous but made for another decade.

Scents and luscious, glossy palate presence of overripe apple and peach gain welcome counterpoint from the piquancy of seed and pit, while a greenhouse-like diversity of flowering and leafing things conveys intriguing perfume. A musky, peony-like note emerges midpalate. Liqueur-like intensity of fruit and a touch of caramel are backed, as in this year’s Bernkasteler Auslese Goldkapsel, by an unusually prominent sense of sheer sweetness, but without the fresh fruit juiciness that clung to that corresponding Bernkasteler’s finish.

Lush and thick in texture, combining power and grace, with a firm backbone of acidity and mineral details. Stunning on the palate, featuring different nuances that keep emerging with each sip. Slate, apricot jam, flan, honeysuckle and kumquat fruit notes are the most prominent, leading to a long, mineral-laced finish. Drink now through 2040.

The 2017 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Auslese is intense and concentrated on the nose, with raisin, grapefruit and even vegetable aromas at the moment. This is highly attractive and noble on both the nose and palate. The wine is lush and dense on the palate but highly elegant, crystalline and fine, revealing a highly stimulating, salty-piquant and intensely aromatic and complex finish. This is an outstanding wine, and it's highly digestible. Tasted in March 2019.

Apple and quince are coolingly laced with mint and wintergreen (decidedly reminiscent of the corresponding Bernkasteler) but also, quite unexpectedly, joined by banana, mango and muskmelon for an unusually exotic expression of Wehlener Sonnenuhr Kabinett that is as luscious in the mouth as it is heady on the nose. Lily and heliotrope contribute to the wine’s head-turning aromatic intensity and their inner-mouth perfume to the allure of a subtly creamy palate. For all of its unusually advanced sense of ripeness for a Kabinett, this projects remarkable delicacy and a focused sense of stone, fruit and floral interface in its lingering finish. (The Prüms are fond of observing that their Wehlener Sonnenuhr is usually slower to show itself than others of their wines, but that certainly isn’t the case with this 2015.)

The 2015 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Kabinett is clear, intense and smoky on the nose, with ripe white and yellow-fleshed stone fruit and floral aromas. Intense and well structured, with a lovely mineral grip and lingering piquancy, this is a medium-bodied, mouth-filling and lush Riesling. It has a long and salty, perfectly structured finish. This is a classic from JJ Prüm that is both light and complex at the same time.

A great kabinett wine, but it needs a couple of years to display all its treasures. There's still some yeastiness in the nose, but also a wonderful floral quality that is going to expand in the future. Concentrated, juicy and very filigree at the long finish. Decades of aging potential.

The 2017 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Spätlese is impressively deep, dense and expressive on the nose that is more mineral rather than fruity. On the palate, this is a lush, tensioned, very precise, elegant, sharply defined and complex Riesling. It's not as exuberant as the Sonnenuhr can be, but it represents more of the gray/blue slate soil. The finish is really lush, perfectly concentrated and salty. This is a great Prüm icon Spätlese. Bright pale straw colour with a watery hue. Lifted ripe pear and baked apple aromas are overlaid by honeycomb with quince and spicy ginger end notes. Rich and luscious the palate is almost creamy like in texture featuring generous flavours of ripe pears, baked apple and honeycomb over a back drop of spice. Broad off dry finish with a medium to long ripe pear, baked apple, honeycomb and light spice aftertaste.
