- Skrewball Peanut Butter Flavoured Whisky Liqueur (700ml)UNITED STATES$64. 99Bottle$779.88 DozenABV: 35%
Peanut butter whiskey? Why the hell not?! Peanut butter was a totally new and fascinating flavour for co-creator, Steve Yeng after immigrating as a refugee from Cambodia. He went on to develop a best-selling peanut butter whiskey cocktail at his bar and restaurant - a place as known for its foodie-friendly fare as it was for being a haven for local misfits and black sheep. He teamed up with Brittany, his wife who just so happened to be a lawyer & chemist, to develop a standalone spirit that tasted great on its own and played well in a cocktail. The result is a harmonious blend of seemingly disparate flavours: A little salty, a little sweet, a little savory, always smooth and unlike anything you’ve tasted before. A celebration of the unexpected, wild, and wonderful in all of us, give it a shot or sip it neat, pour it on ice, or mix it up in a cocktail (like a peanut butter Old Fashioned). Contains peanuts. 35% Alc./Vol.

2022 Thibaud Boudignon Savennieres Clos FremineLoire Valley, FRANCE$199. 00Bottle$2388.00 DozenABV: 12%Closure: CorkBased in Savennieres, Thibaud Boudignon is one of the new young stars of the Loire Valley. In addition to his prime plots in Savennieres, Thibaud also owns two small vineyards across the river on the south side of the Loire in the Anjou. Thibaud has worked with Philippe Charlopin in Gevrey Chambertin, Chateau Lafite Rothschild in Bordeaux (amongst others) and also in Australia before settling in the Loire, thereby building up a wealth of experience without having been born into a wine producing family. Working organically in the vineyards he harvests by hand making successive tries throughout each vineyard ending with yields that are much lower than the appellation rules allow. In the winery the grapes are whole bunch pressed with no settling and the juice is kept cold before starting a long slow fermentation. He vinifies with natural yeasts and ages the wines on lees with minimal SO2 in a mixture of barrels ranging from 300-600 litres.
This Clos Fremine site adjoins Clos de la Hutte separated only by stone walls surrounding each Clos and a tiny road between and is planted to 1.5ha of vines from massale selection, with the original material coming from vines of more than 100 years old. Sloping towards the Loire the soils have a fine cover of sand blown over the underlying schist across many millenia which conveys a silky elegance to the resulting wine, giving more immediacy and enabling this wine to be appreciated in its youth.
Other Reviews....
The 2022 Savennières Clos de Fremine has purity and tranquility; it's a cloud of Chenin Blanc blossoming in the mouth. There were a lot of grapes that didn't make the grade in 2022 due to the hot, dry conditions of the season, but the strict sorting implemented by Boudignon and team appears to have done the trick. The wine is gently fresh, but a salty line provides persistence. An appetizing fragrance of chamomile, honey and nectarine lingers long in the mouth. Drink 2025-2037.

The 2021 Brennecke Grenache is savory and meaty and yet seamless, with dark fruits and pastrami, tobacco and crushed rocks. The oak makes an impact on the fruit, but it works well in terms of the dovetail of characters in the mouth. It is chewy and spiced, flowing and fresh. It is confident and full, with a long, lingering finish ... it just keeps going. It matured in 100% new French oak for two years. I really like it. The balanced and mild (and long) 2021 season shows itself via balance and restraint in this wine. The harmony is evident. 15% alcohol, sealed under natural cork. Drink 2024-2041.

Crafted by Jose Luis ('Pepe') Infante at the 230-year-old Romate Bodega, in Jerez. Pedro Ximenez grapes from Montilla-Moriles are hand-picked in late August and sun-dried on vineyard mats for about eight days, increasing their sweetness from 15 Bé at harvest to 24 Bé after drying. At the winery, the bunches are destemmed, pressed, and then fortified. This bottling uses the second pressings, unlike Cardenal Cisneros, which uses only free-run juice. The fortified wine is aged in a solera for three years before being blended with 15% oloroso.

Yohan Castaing - Wine Advocate (Apr 27, 2024)The 2023 Blanc is quite rich and textured in this vintage. Antonio Galloni - VinousMore freshness to this than 2022, showing dried-mango and lemon aromas, as well as some lemon curd. It’s medium-bodied with depth and intensity of fruit. James SucklingThe 2023 Château Tronquoy Blanc is a tiny-production white based on close to equal parts Semillon and Sauvignon Gris. Rocking stone fruits, golden apple, ripe citrus, and minty herb notes define the aromatics, and it's medium-bodied on the palate, with a round, layered, concentrated texture, integrated acidity, and beautifully integrated oak. It's another serious white for a great château.

Jeb DunnuckIncredibly aromatic; honeysuckle, lemongrass, minerality, ripe peach and some bitter grapefruit. Great freshness and brightness here, lots of vivacity - some sharp, almost tart green apple countered by freshly cut pineapple with a touch of bitterness. Lovely lift and balance, ripe with a hint of sweetness but great mouth-filling texture and really elongated finish. On the high toned spectrum, acidity is at the fore with the almost bitter touches coming through strongly, but altogether really interesting and captivating. Keeps a direct frame, lean, and streamlined, not fat but there’s a touch of richness. Lemon and orange skin on the finish. Vinified and ageing only in barrels, 20% new oak for 12 months. Like a racing spinnaker, this is tightly trimmed yet voluminous in character. Bollinger's 2015 Brut La Grande Année Rosé was disgorged in May last year with seven grams per liter dosage. Offering up deep aromas of orchard fruits, blood orange, mandarin rind and peach mingled with nuances of coffee, praline and fino sherry, it's medium to full-bodied, pillowy and layered, with a broad attack that segues into a vinous palate framed by high levels of structuring dry extract that makes its presence felt on the sapid, nutty and penetrating finish. Given the skin maturity and inherent structure of the year, the Bollinger team elected to include only 4.5% of still red wine in the blend, a comparatively low percentage. Drink 2024-2045.

This elegant, medium-bodied rosé includes select plots of pinot noir from the Cote Aux Enfants vineyard. It shows a medium orange-amber color, dark cherry-skin and candied-plum aromas followed by vivid strawberry and blood-orange flavors. Marked by finesse, light but very flavorful, complex and layered. Drink or hold.

JamesSuckling.comThis rosé has much in common with the forward, bold release of La Grande Année blanc, as the wines share 95% of their blend. The 5% red wine from La Côte aux Enfants that goes into this rosé, though, adds a light touch of red apple, strawberry and rosehip, playing on some of the bay leaf spice in the blend while adding an extra dose of structure and apple skin bite on the palate. This is a structured but engaging rosé that could promise its best – and reveal a little more of its creamy, nougat richness - with further ageing. 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay from the Montagne de Reims, Grande Vallée de la Marne and Côte des Blancs, with 5% red Pinot Noir addition, all fermented in small oak barrels and disgorged in May 2023 after seven years on lees. Drink 2025 - 2034.

Tom Hewson - DecanterBase wine, the same as the white Grande Année 2015 tinted by 5% still red wine from the famous Côte aux Enfants vineyard, was all aged in oak. Blend of 11 crus, 62% Pinot Noir predominantly from Verzenay, Aÿ and Mareuil-sur-Aÿ and 38% Chardonnay from Chouilly and Avize. Disgorged July 2023.
Pale, slightly gris salmon pink (a little paler than the Billecart 2012 Elisabeth Salmon rosé tasted alongside). Heady, mushroomy, off-dry, sumptuous Bollinger gloriousness on the palate. I wonder what the dosage is, and whether the richness comes mainly from the fruit and oak? Finishes dry, but with wonderfully soothing impact on the palate. Relatively gentle mousse. Really gets to the deepest part of the throat. Sensational! Drink 2024 – 2038,

Bollinger's 2015 Brut Grand Année is an intriguing wine in that is clearly reflects the decision to pick on the later side in order to avoid vegetal notes derived from the mismatch of alcoholic and phenolic ripeness. "Balance was hard to achieve in 2015," Chef de Cave Denis Bunner notes. "At 10% in sugar, the fruit was simply not ripe. We had to wait to reach the optimal window of ripeness." Bunner also opted to increase the Chardonnay, so the blend is 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay, as opposed to the more typical 70/30 blend, with more Verzenay than Aÿ in the Pinots. Dried citrus peel, sage, menthol, sage, tangerine peel and spice build with some coaxing. Light tropical overtones develop with aeration. There's real density and textural richness here. This will be a fascinating vintage to follow. Stylistically, it is the complete opposite from the much more linear 2014 that precedes it. Dosage is 8 grams per liter.

Antonio Galloni – VinousThis expressive Champagne features a rich, well-spiced range of flavors chiseled by well-honed, integrated acidity, which lends a racy feel to the ripe black cherry and mulberry fruit and notes of salted almond, pink grapefruit granita, crystallized honey and pickled ginger that ride the raw silk–like mousse. Hints of chalk and spring blossoms play on the clean-cut, lasting finish. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Disgorged May 2023. Drink now through 2040.

WineSpectator.comThe 2015 Brut La Grande Année was disgorged last year with eight grams per liter dosage. The wine has turned out beautifully, exhibiting a more muscular, old-school Bollinger profile in contrast to the unusually racy, fine-boned 2014 that preceded it. Wafting from the glass with notes of pear, orange oil and white flowers mingled with notions of mocha, toasted hazelnuts and fino sherry, it's medium to full-bodied, layered and textural, with a dense core of fruit framed by chalky structuring extract, concluding with a long, sapid finish. Drink 2025-2045.

William Kelley – Robert Parker’s The Wine AdvocateEnticing, fragrant aromas of toast, lemon zest and an earthy-smoky nuance lead to a palate of subtle Bosc-pear, mango, papaya, even pineapple flavors. Lifted by fresh acidity on the medium-bodied palate, the wine keeps unfolding in toasted walnuts, honey and a dash of bitter marmalade. It’s mouth-filling, alive with acidity and full of finesse. Drink or hold.
96 Points
JamesSuckling.comA forward vintage for La Grande Année, with warmth evident in its roasted orange, Comice pear and Mirabelle plum, all polished with a sense of savoury maturity that is very Bollinger at heart. There’s a little more oxygen influence seemingly at play than in the 2014, with brine, nuts and a little dried leaf character already taking this far beyond fruit. The food-friendly chewiness of 2015 is there, but the mousse is supple and the Chardonnay brings the wine to a close with a fine, cooked lemon snap. This will start to show its best integration from 2025 onwards, although it is open for business now. 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay from the Montagne de Reims, Grande Vallée de la Marne and Côte des Blancs, all fermented in small oak barrels and disgorged in May 2023 after seven years on lees. It's a satisfying, thoroughly enjoyable, if not outstanding, Pomerol that will drink well with just short-term cellaring.

Jeb DunnuckFlowers, chocolate covered cherries, licorice, and a leaf, or two of mint create the aromatic profile. The finish is long, and lingering with its chocolate-coated black, and red fruits, with just a hint of smoke, and espresso to add another accent. The wine is produced from 100% Merlot. 14.61 ABV, 3.67 pH. This is clearly the start of another level for La Croix St. Georges. When bottled, it is possible the score could rise even further. 2021 Shaw & Smith Balhannah Vineyard ShirazAdelaide Hills, South Australia, AUSTRALIA$94. 99Bottle$1139.88 DozenABV: 14%Closure: StelvinThe 2021 vintage benefited from soaking winter rains that provided ample soil moisture, leading to healthy crops. A mild summer allowed for slow ripening and enhanced flavor development. The wine was aged for 14 months in 500 to 600-liter French oak barrels (15% new), followed by an additional 14 months in the bottle. Crafted from close-planted, low-yielding vines at Shaw & Smith’s Balhannah Vineyard, this wine promises to reward careful cellaring for up to 20 years.

A scintillating nose of mace, clove, blue-fruit persuasions, lilac, pepper-dried salumi, fennel seed and kelp, akin to nori of the sort found at Tokyo's arsenal of exceptional sushi counters. On the slightly richer side of mid-weighted. Yet, the slippery skein of tannin is so immaculately placed that there is neither heat nor an ounce of sloppy, sweet fruit. Everything is compressed into a polished bone of tension and savory refinement. The acidity is saline and lathered with tapenade. More of a syrah from an external perspective. An irrefutably brilliant one. I wish I had more to cellar, given the wine's noble stature. A ringer for refined Cornas, if not an oxymoron. Drinkable now, but best from 2026. Screw cap.

The pitch here is as perfect as you’ll find. It’s glossy and smooth but there’s sinew and grain too; the fruit is sweet but the herbs are ardent. Twiggy spice, mescal, black pepper and peanut shells weave through blueberry and ripe plum. Tannin is grapey, fine-grained, smoky and expansive. It’s exemplary. Drink 2025 - 2035+

Longrow 21 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml) - 2023 bottlingCampbeltown, SCOTLAND$1399. 00Bottle$16788.00 DozenABV: 46%Named after another lost distillery of Campbeltown (which once operated right next door to Springbank and whose warehouse now houses their bottling hall). Longrow was first produced in 1973 to provide a peaty, oily and robust component to a blend being launched at the time. More heavily peated than Springbank and double distilled, it has been a staple in the production calendar since the 1990s. This is the annual 2023 edition of the oldest whisky in the Longrow core range, matured in a combination of 60% Sherry casks, 30% bourbon casks and 10% Chardonnay casks.

The 2023 L'Eglise Clinet unwinds in the glass with brooding aromas of dark berries and cherries mingled with baking chocolate, pipe tobacco and toasty new oak. Full-bodied, layered and muscular, with a sweet core of fruit framed by rich, powdery, generously extracted tannin, it's broad-shouldered and powerful, concluding with a long, expansive finish. It's a blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc that checks in at 14.6% alcohol.
93-95 points
William Kelley - Wine Advocate (Apr 27, 2024)The 2023 L'Eglise-Clinet was picked between September 10 and 14 and matured in 82% new oak. It has a stunning bouquet with enthralling delineation and focus, very intense with blackberries, raspberry, crushed stone, Earl Grey and a touch of blood orange. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-boned tannins and a dash of cracked black pepper. It's very harmonious and fans out brilliantly on the finish. It is surely going to vie with the stupendous 2022, and this ranks as one of the best wines of the vintage. Tasted on two visits at the beginning and end of my Bordeaux tastings. Drink 2032-2060.

Neal Martin - VinousThe purity and precision tof this young Eglise Clinet is exceptional, with finesse, intensity and fine tannins that last for minutes on the palate. It grows slowly and then builds and continues. The energy is terrific. Finishes long and confident. All about structure with finesse. The tannins really are refined and tightly woven. 90% merlot and 10% cabernet franc.

James SucklingThe Grand Vin 2023 Château L'Eglise Clinet checks in as 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc that's resting in 82% new barrels. It brings another level of density as well as purity, with fabulous notes of cassis, ripe black cherries, chocolate, smoked tobacco, iron, and spice, as well as a kiss of background graphite. Medium to full-bodied, concentrated, yet very much in the vibrant, fresh, classic style of the vintage, it has ripe tannins and a gorgeous finish. It shines on all accounts, offering beautiful purity and complexity and plenty of richness, and it should have a broad, lengthy drink window.

Jeb DunnuckCrafted from deep rooted vines in both clay with clayey gravel, this estate succeeds like no other in expressing power from this appellation but without any hard or drying tannins, which one can encounter in 2023 from other estates. Cool and confident menthol, bright tangy red berry and blueberry fruit aromas introduce an almost Pauillac like palate whose tannic grip is happily balanced by blood red orange like freshness. Aging in 82% new oak, this wine was made from grapes picked before the September rains: the tannins show no rawness, but rather pristine ripeness. I love the linear focus enveloped with subtle succulence, ending with a long finish. Give it the full opportunity to improve in your cellar, not before 2033, when it will reward your patience fully. Drink 2033 - 2060.

Panos Kakaviatos - DecanterThe wine quickly focuses you on its floral characteristics paired with black raspberries, plums, black, with white cherries, dark chocolate, and just an edge of coffee beans. The palate however, is where the excitement takes place. The wine is opulent, rich, aromatic, concentrated, and long. The mark of freshness is there, but, you also experience the wine's elegance, and silky tannins, as well as its length, and width on the mid-palate, and finish. Interestingly, here, it was the moderate amount of sun hours that helped make the vintage as it shielded the grapes from the late summer heat wave. From a blend of 90% Merlot with 10% Cabernet Franc, 14.60% ABV. The harvest took place September 10-September 14. It is great to see continuing strong wines from the Durantou family. A blend of 55% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon matured 50% in new oak, the 2023 Montlandrie offers up aromas of flowers, wild dark berries and mulberries with a touch of reduction. Medium to full-bodied, dense and rich with a concentrated core of fruit, it’s enrobing and charming with structuring tannins and a long, licorice and smoke-inflected finish. It will offer a broad drinking window. Drink 2025-2040.
90-92 points
Yohan Castaing - Wine Advocate (Apr 27, 2024)The 2023 Montlandrie sees a change in composition, as a plot of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon that Noëmie Durantou planted in 2021 enters the blend for the first time. She found the first-pressed wine for the Cabernet Sauvignon impressive, so she also added that to the blend. The result is 55% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, picked between September 18 and 30 and matured in 50% new oak. This new makeup certainly gives it a different aromatic profile than previous vintages: black cherries, cedar and pencil shavings, very focused, more Left-Bank-meets-Right-Bank in style. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins. It’s beautifully structured and judiciously spiced with gentle grip on the finish. Together with Les Cruzelles, these wines represent outstanding value for money. This will certainly age well in bottle. Drink 2027-2047.

Jeb DunnuckAn attractive aromatic profile ranges from blackberry and cassis to chocolate brownie and floral. The first press of the Cabernet Sauvignon was so impressive that the estate used it for the first time, about 2%, and the impression left is of a wine with fine structure but also savoury, as the blend remains dominated by Merlot. In 1968, Chairman George S Grant (4th generation) selected and bottled a cask at natural strength for family and friends as a Christmas gift. The liquid was 105 British proof which is equivalent to 60% alcohol by volume. The high strength whisky was so popular that George continued to bottle Glenfarclas at 105 proof making it one of the first official releases of cask strength Scotch whisky in the world. So the Glenfarclas 105 was born! In 2023, the new management sought to up the ante with a proper age statement at this potent ABV with a very limited bottling of 16-year-old curated by Distillery Manager, Callum Fraser and Managing Director, Douglas Belford. Embodying the full bodied Glenfarclas style, it's reported that this is limited to around 5000 bottles globally.

Taste: Deeply complex flavours with stewed berry fruits, melted butter toffee combined with freshly baked almond biscuits. Finish: A velvet finish with lingering notes of subtle sherry and tantalising dark chocolate that leaves you wanting more.

2023 Chateau Guiraud G Bordeaux Blanc SecBordeaux, FRANCE$36. 99Bottle$443.88 DozenCellar: Drink now - 6 Years (2024-2030)ABV: 13.5%Closure: Diam CorkA certified organic Bordeaux blend of 40% Sauvignon Blanc and 60% Semillon fermented in old Sauternes oak barrels and aged for 6 months on lees to give the wine more volume and textural appeal. The fruit is primarily sourced from a vineyard that was planted to Sauvignon Blanc by accident around 40 years ago. (For their Sauternes, Guiraud were after a Semillon-heavy cuvee - too much Sauvignon Blanc was not considered the right balance for a sweet wine). Instead of selling off the Sauvignon or re-planting, Guiraud decided to create a special dry white and the “G” was born.
Brilliant pale straw colour with a subtle greenish tinge around the edges and a watery hue. 2021 Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Batard Montrachet Grand CruBurgundy, FRANCE$2750. 00Bottle$33000.00 DozenClosure: CorkAfter leaving his family domaine in 2005, Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey has established himself as one of the rising stars of Burgundy. Pierre-Yves has built a strong reputation for crafting exquisite white Burgundy that display energy and vitality. The white wines are whole bunch pressed, fermented with natural yeasts, aged on lees for up to 18 months in mostly in 350 litre barrels with no lees stirring and no filtration. The corks used come from one tiny supplier and are extra long and extra wide (55mm x 25mm) for the village, 1er cru and Grand cru wines and are untreated with no paraffin and the bottles are then sealed with soft wax to ensure no problems with premature oxidation. The resulting wines are built to age classically up to 10 years or more.

2022 Domaine Christian Moreau Blanchots Chablis Grand CruChablis, FRANCE$255. 00Bottle$3060.00 DozenABV: 13%Closure: CorkDomaine Christian Moreau is one of the most respected names in Chablis blessed with magnificent vineyard holdings in the best areas of Chablis. The highlights are undoubtedly the amazing range of Grand cru vineyards including one single holding of approximately 3 hectares in Les Clos as well as 0.41 hectares of Clos des Hospices dans Les Clos plus slightly smaller holdings in Valmur, Blanchots and Vaudesir. The wines are gaining in even clearer expression with the vineyards having been certified organic since 2013 and together with some new tanks and other investments the results are showing clearly in the wines with each vintage. These are wines of precision, crystal clear typicity, and elegance that will age classically while enabling tremendous enjoyment throughout their lives.
Other Reviews....
Discreet but not imperceptible wood sets off ripe liqueur-like aromas of spiced pear, acacia blossom and moderate Chablis typicity. There is excellent richness and mid-palate density to the relatively powerful mineral-driven flavors that deliver fine length on the sappy bitter lemon-inflected finale. This delicious effort could use better depth so a few years of keeping should be beneficial. Drink through 2030+.

Allen Meadows - BurghoundThe 2022 Chablis Blanchot Grand Cru is definitely a step up from the Vaudésir: more mineralité and terroir expression, a greater sense of nascent energy. Other reviews... A whiff of wood smoke or char on the nose, creating an overlay to more classic notes of stone fruit, mango, red berries, apples, and vanilla. The palate offers honeyed sweetness, crème brûlée, coconut cream, tropical fruits, red berries, and pepper spice. Smooth and mellow on the finish, but the flavors don’t linger long. 93 points - whiskyadvocate.com
This is the new one with the funny box and the hefty price (190€). Well, at least it's a conversation starter, which is already something. They mention terroir on the label, but I'm not sure all the barley comes from Islay; if it doesn't, that's a very liberal use of the term 'terroir' that they're employing. Anyway, marketers around the world are trying to invent new meanings for this word right now. In summary, they all claim that "terroir is what we do at home." Yes, of course... Colour: gold. Nose: it's quite deep but not ultra-expressive, a bit earthy and chalky, malty, more on a bread dough side, with hints of carbon powder, then more honey. It undoubtedly needs water. With water: beeswax comes out, fruit wines (the eternal peaches and melons), fresh raisin rolls... Mouth (neat): now this is very good, it starts with ripe fruits around peaches and oranges, with an immediate liquorice side. Also that fruit salad side that we so love in Bruichladdich. There's also a bit of wine but nothing too serious. With water: it's well-structured, fruity, with some citrus pastries. It seems younger than it is. Finish: medium length. Melons, guavas, sweet pepper, and always a few drops of indeterminate wine and a bit of wood/tea. Comments: it's not a very maritime Laddie, and the eighteen years don't really feel, but the quality is undoubtedly there. Be careful when you open the odd box, hold the bottle from the bottom (I almost got caught). 86 points - whiskyfun.com

2014 Kilchoman Single Cask #14/1007 Australian Exclusive Sauternes Cask Finish Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)Islay, SCOTLAND$199. 99Bottle$2399.88 DozenABV: 56.3%The Australian importer's single cask selection was aged in fresh Bourbon wood for just over six and a half years, then spent a further eighteen months finishing in an x-Sauternes Hogshead (sweet white wine from Bordeaux). While Kilchoman have previously released bottlings that were fully matured in Sauternes casks, this nevertheless ranks as an extended secondary maturation, compared to 5-6 months that many might consider the 'norm'. Consequently, if you're used to the style of core releases like Machir Bay or Sanaig, this offers a different Kilchoman experience. On the nose, the usually effusive maritime character is offset by notes of bush honey, dried apricots and jaffas with just a little iodine/menthol lift contributing freshness. Flavour wise, it's quite an attack - mouthfilling, textural and oily with a malty mid-palate followed by a tang of tangerine peel and a spike of heat. The Sauternes cask almost gets the better of the peat, leaving you with residual notes of sweet tobacco, chimney soot, menthol rub and dark chocolate. An after dinner treat. 56.3% Alc./Vol. 50ppm. Non chill filtered.
Notes from the importers... Nose: Driven by notes of vanilla and rich apricot with an elegant underlying peat smoke. Palate: Opening rich honey-sweetness makes way for an intense influence of almond followed by a classic Kilchoman peat smoke combined with toasted oak. Finish: Dried fruit, lemon zest and rich spice balanced with a long-lasting malty sweetness.

A Benromach initially matured in first-fill bourbon casks, followed by five years in Bordeaux red wine casks. This results in delicate honey and floral aromas, forest fruits and toasted oak flavours with soft peat smoke on the finish. 46% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.
Other reviews... If they must. This one baby spent its last 5 years in wood in 'Bordeaux wine casks', so it's double maturation instead of finish, although they would write both on the label. I suppose it was red Bordeaux but they wouldn't tell. Many people believe Bx is red, but you can have them in all colours. Sauternes is Bordeaux too. Colour: gold. Nose: all right, it is not about red berries, bell pepper and stuff. We're leaning towards fresh cakes, brioche, cut grass, and also a bit of cooked ham. These ham notes are quite unusual, especially to this extent. Mouth: yes, not bad at all! A bit of strawberry jam this time, as well as green pepper, bay leaves, small salty and smoky touches, bitter oranges, and then a slightly unexpected fino-like side. In short, we're not on raspberry and blackcurrant liqueur, thankfully. Finish: quite long, indeed pleasant and ultimately rather coastal. But Bordeaux is located by the ocean. Comments: nice, just perhaps not something to replace the... classics. 83 points - whiskyfun.com
- Black Tot Master Blender's Reserve Cask Strength Rum (700ml) - 2023 Limited Edition$299. 00Bottle$3588.00 DozenABV: 54.5%
For the fourth evolution of the Master Blender's Reserve, Oliver Chilton has looked to create a blend that is closer to the original Navy rum with a heavier mouth feel and rich notes of wood smoke, espresso and cacao. As always, he has put his own spin on the assemblage, this year including a rum from Grenada, distilled in 1993, to add depth and accentuate a rich orange oil notes from the Perpetual Reserve. As always, the blend begins with rum drawn from the previous year's Master Blender’s Reserve - this works in a similar way to a Solera, whereby one-third of a blend is held back for another year and blended again. In 2023, casks were selected from Trinidad, Barbados, Jamaica, Guyana and Grenada (see below for a comprehensive breakdown). Notably, a higher proportion from Guyana component was included, the thick liquorice and muscovado in this rum helps recreate the unique flavour profiles they exhibited over half a century ago. These five blends were then brought together and married with the Perpetual Reserve, as well as some of the original Navy Rum from 1970, keeping the liquid history alive. Chilton comments, "With a larger focus on older rums from Guyana and the addition of 30-year-old rum from Grenada, a real sense of maturity and status has developed. It is such a privilege to be able to keep back stock from each blend to mature on and use as the heart of the next iteration of Master Blender’s Reserve, reimagining a blending technique used for so many decades by the rum blenders of the Navy.” 54.5% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.

- Port Askaig Cask Strength Small Batch #01-2023 Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)Islay, SCOTLAND$169. 99Bottle$2039.88 DozenABV: 59.4%
Other reviews... Are all NAS necessarily underwhiskies? That's up for debate... In any case, if the age isn't known here, we know it's ¼ toasted bourbon (rejuvenated barrels, I suppose) and ¾ American oak (just regular hogsheads, I suppose). Colour: pale white wine. Nose: honestly, it's very fine, with notes of nail polish, lime, ginger tonic, sourdough, wheat beer, plaster, porridge, and some rather elegant and discreet peat With water: very subtle hints of anise and hops. Mouth (neat): sweet yet tart, very citrusy, but with a slightly fatty woodiness. I think it's close to the official CI Cask Strength, but it's been a while since I've tasted the latter. Do they still make it? With water: nice, but there's always a somewhat thick and fatty aspect to the wood. Finish: long, oily in the mouth. In theory, it's the fresh wood that should do that. Comments: very good, I just have a clear preference for the rather marvellous 17-year-old. 85 points - whiskyfun.com
...This new Cask Strength Port Askaig, subtly labelled “Gateway to Islay” also moves from a core release to an annual (or at least periodical) limited, small batch release. Understandable in the face of challenges in late 2023... A big, strong, powerful, young Caol Ila, just how I like it. It doesn’t say on the label of course, but in this writer's opinion, we can be pretty certain it is from that distillery. It’s the old cliché of beachside barbecues, maritime air and thick, ashen smoke that we often find with Islay malts, but this is a particularly good example. The sweet, earthy, salty, meaty and smoky notes all intertwine beautifully. Very good indeed. - dramface.com

2023 Lassegue Pre-Arrival OfferSaint Emilion, Bordeaux, FRANCE$76. 99Bottle$923.88 DozenClosure: CorkOther Reviews....
The 2023 Lassègue is terrific. In fact, it is one of the best wines I have tasted here. A rush of inky dark fruit, crème de cassis, mocha, cloves and chocolate are all dialed up to the maximum in this decidedly opulent Saint-Émilion. Lassègue is not at all subtle, but it has a ton to offer for lovers of rich, heady wines. This is the first vintage in which Cabernet Franc drives the blend. Oak impact, thankfully, has been moderated as well. It remains a pretty lush, super-ripe wine, but it is impeccably balanced. This a terrific effort from Pierre Seillan. Drink 2027-2038.
91-93 points
Antonio Galloni - VinousThis is very linear and compact with lush fruit, but the tannins and acidity frame it so nicely. It's medium-bodied with excellent length and energy. The finish is really fine. 50% cabernet franc, 43% merlot and 7% cabernet sauvignon. Better than 2022.
95-96 points
James SucklingComing from the talented Seillan family (also behind the quality at Verite in Sonoma), the 2023 Château Lassegue should be brilliant stuff, offering a dense ruby/plum hue as well as powerful aromatics of spiced red and black fruits, chocolate, and crushed stone. It's a big, rich, textured, medium to full-bodied 2023 with velvety tannins, terrific overall balance, and outstanding length. This cuvée comes from clay and limestone soils in the southern part of the appellation and is 50% Cabernet Franc, 43% Merlot, and 7% Cabernet Sauvignon, aging in 50% new oak. It's the first vintage with a majority of Cabernet Franc.
92-94 points
Jeb DunnuckLovely intense and bright nose with violets, cherry, plum and hints of anise. The enveloping palate has subtle concentration and energy, all wonderfully balanced with some minty expressions coming from the 50% Cabernet Franc in the blend. Like Château Palmer in Margaux, this wine rivals a vintage like 2020. Never heavy or powerful but velvety, with Cabernet Sauvignon lending structure for a longer haul, even if it will already be delicious once released in bottle. The orange like freshness, tangy and not tart, with bright cherry and crushed strawberry aspects in a long finish reflet superlative work by Pierre Seillan and his team. Harvested between 18-28 September and ageing in 50% new oak. Drink 2025 - 2046.

Panos Kakaviatos - DecanterCrushed rocks, mint, flowers, espresso, and cherries are what you find in this vivacious, mineral-driven, bright, wine. The finish delivers a touch of salt, with the sweet red fruits, licorice, and spice. Drink from 2027-2040.

Stauning Host Double Malt Danish Whisky (700ml)DENMARK$99. 99Bottle$1199.88 DozenABV: 40.5%As of 2024, Host (pronounced “hurst”), is the latest addition to Stauning's portfolio. The blend of rye and single malt is named ‘harvest’ in honour of the Danish landscape and the country’s grains which are 100% floor malted and kiln dried at the distillery. Alex Munch, one of Stauning’s founders, comments: “Each harvest, farmers give over a portion of their fields to wildflowers, adding a riot of colour to the stretches of grains that carpet the land. We created HØST to celebrate the closeness of nature and nurture, the deliberate rye and barley hand-in-hand with the sudden colour of wildflowers, just as our modern, sustainable distillery sits alongside acres of green fields.”
Matured on-site in heavily charred new American oak and first-fill Port barriques, this well-balanced dram is perfect for beginners: Easy on entry and easy to the last with a blended malt kind of feel and a fruit bread character throughout. Not outstanding but no quibbles either. Just extremely drinkable whisky. Tasted from a 15ml sample. 40.5% Alc./Vol.
Other reviews... It says ‘Smooth & Delicate’—well, what’s that about then? Seems to be a 50/50 split of malted barley and rye, aged in a mix of American virgin oak, ex-Bourbon, and ex-Port casks. We reckon, with a bit of luck, this could work. Colour: gold. Nose: very light, but not unpleasant, rather like an herbal tea. Might even call it a breakfast whisky. Fresh bread, gentle fennel, caraway seeds, and a touch of spice… Mouth: it’s good, not even too weak. There’s bread and spices aplenty, but it tends to nod off after thirty seconds or so, becoming a bit drying. Finish: fairly short, though nicely bread-forward. Comments: It’s from a Diageo-backed distillery, so they clearly know what they’re up to, and it’s really not bad at all. Just a pity about the ABV—perhaps a typo crept in somewhere during production? At 46%, it could’ve been a little gem. 81 points - whiskyfun.com

2023 Chateau les Trois Croix Pre-Arrival OfferFronsac, Bordeaux, FRANCE$46. 99Bottle$563.88 DozenClosure: CorkOther Reviews....
The 2023 Les Trois Croix has a slight metallic trait on the nose, though there seems to be sufficient black fruit underneath. This improves in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins. It’s fleshy and ripe, with fine structure and a touch of mineralité on the finish. This is just one of the best Fronsac wines out there. Drink 2028-2043.
91-93 points
Neal Martin - VinousBright and focused red with medium body and tense acidity. The tannins are firm and crunchy. Vivid finish.
91-92 points
James SucklingBeautifully ripe black cherries, leather, spice, and tobacco as well as some floral notes all emerge from the 2023 Château Les Trois Croix, a medium-bodied, supple, elegant barrel sample that has sweet tannins and beautiful length.
89-91 points
Jeb DunnuckPretty floral aspects reveal a fresh and flavourful palate with plum and brambly red berry fruit. While it lacks the depth and power of a 'super vintage', it makes up for that with much charm and smooth tannins that have nuance, ending with a subtle medium finish. Barrel ageing will broaden the palate any my score reflects the upper end of a range. Drink 2026 - 2036.

2023 Clos Fourtet Pre-Arrival OfferSaint Emilion, Bordeaux, FRANCE$220. 00Bottle$2640.00 DozenClosure: CorkOther Reviews....
The 2023 Clos Fourtet is especially suave and refined this year, wafting from the glass with deep aromas of red berries, licorice, violets and pencil shavings, framed by a nicely integrated patina of new oak. Medium to full-bodied, supple and layered, with a velvety attack that segues into a bright, precise mid-palate, it's pure and lively, concluding with a mineral finish.
94-96 points
William Kelley - Wine Advocate (Apr 27, 2024)The 2023 Clos Fourtet is pure class. Elegant and soaring, the 2023 offers up an exciting mélange of dark-toned fruit, leather, incense, dried herbs, pencil shavings and crushed rocks. Beams of supporting limestone-infused tannin and acid give Clos Fourtet is super-distinctive feel. The long, enduring finish is a thing of beauty. Clos Fourtet remains a benchmark example of wines from Saint-Émilion's famed limestone plateau. Tasted two times. Drink 2030-2063.
94-96 points
Antonio Galloni - VinousThis is so full of energy. It’s full-bodied with electrified tannins and a long, long finish. So polish and focus here with exquisite balance and length.
97-98 points
James SucklingChecking in as 87% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc, and 7% Cabernet Sauvignon, raised in 50-60% new oak, the 2023 Clos Fourtet has a beautiful limestone-driven style in its red and blue fruits as well as floral and chalky nuances that emerge with time in the glass. Medium-bodied, incredibly well-balanced, and elegant on the palate, it has fine tannins and outstanding length, as well as a gorgeous limestone character. It's a beautiful wine from this family estate that readers will love to have in their cellars.
94-96 points
Jeb DunnuckGorgeous fragrance, really ripe and expressive, so floral and perfumed too. Lovely pure aromatic expression. Ripe but juicy raspberry and black cherry fruit - cool and so refreshing. I love the gentle style, it’s smooth with tannins that give body but no weight. More vertical than wide, it’s layered and delicate. Finessed as you expect from Clos Fourtet. Lithe, supple, mouthwatering, a certain density is there and the length is great. Cool but chalky too. There’s power here in the fleshiness but it’s juicy with a touch of oak and enjoyable bitterness on the finish. Ageing 40% new oak, 60% one year used barrels. 3.5pH. 46hl/ha yield. Drink 2030 - 2046.

Georgina Hindle - DecanterFloral in nature, with only a swirl you find black raspberries, red plums, cherries, spice, and crushed stones in the aromatic profile. On the palate, the wine is balanced between its sweet, bright, red pit fruits, and salty, oceanic influences. The fruits are clean, precise, and energetic. There is length, purity, and refinement, with a lingering sensation of minerality that adds to the sweetness of the berries. This is the second vintage where the parcels of Grandes Murailles were integrated into Clos Fourtet. The wine blends 87% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc and 6% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14.5% ABV, 3.54 pH. The harvest took place, September 14 - October 3. Drink from 2028-2055.

2023 Clos de l'Oratoire Pre-Arrival OfferSaint Emilion, Bordeaux, FRANCE$74. 99Bottle$899.88 DozenClosure: CorkOther Reviews....
Aromas of cherries, dark chocolate, spices and violets introduce the 2023 Clos de l'Oratoire, a medium to full-bodied, fleshy and layered wine that's charming and harmonious on the attack, displaying a touch of youthfully grippy tannin on the finish. The blend contains fully 25% Cabernet Franc.
90-92 points
William Kelley - Wine Advocate (Apr 27, 2024)The 2023 Clos de l'Oratoire is one of the most changed wines in the Neipperg portfolio. An increase in Cabernet Franc is immediately evident in the wine's explosive bouquet and overall energy. Rose petal, sage, mint, dried flowers and orange peel race across the palate. Clos de l'Oratoire is absolutely beguiling in 2023. I can't wait to taste it from bottle. Drink 2030-2043.
92-95 points
Antonio Galloni - VinousThis shows tight tannins and a racy feel, with floral, black-cherry and dark-fruit notes in both the nose and palate. It’s medium-bodied with a refined and complex nature. Long and true. Finesse with depth.
94-95 points
James SucklingThe 2023 Clos De L'Oratoire is another beautiful wine from this team. Black raspberries, cassis, spring flowers, spicy oak, and graphite all define the aromatics, and it's medium to full-bodied, with a pure, elegant, polished mouthfeel and outstanding length.
92-95 points
Jeb DunnuckSmooth and supple, great energy and movement, a lovely chalky but ripe body with textured tannins and a fresh crunchy plum, cranberry and cherry fruit presence. SA1127 has spectacular dense purple black colour and the aroma is of violets and cherry palate flavours. SA712 is dominated by chocolate and plum flavour whilst BVRC30 offers an earthy, farmyard character to Shiraz.
Rich, plump and seductive McLaren Vale Shiraz
Black as night heart with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Nosing evokes scents of aniseed, liquorice and black cherry followed by some smoky vanillin cedar, dried meat and peppered earth notes.
