    2009 Radikon 3781 Ribolla Riserva Bianco (1000ml)
    Friuli-Venezia, ITALY
    $470. 00
    Bottle
    $5640.00 Dozen
    ABV: 13%
    Closure: Cork

The late Stanislao (Stanko) Radikon’s bold decision in the 1990s to embrace extended skin contact and natural winemaking, alongside his neighbour Josko Gravner, played a pivotal role in the global rise of amber/orange wines. Over the course of 36+ vintages Stanko, and now his son Sasa, have remained uncompromising in their pursuit of wines that are pure expressions of their Friulian terroir, rejecting chemical additives, temperature control, and sulphur. Rooted in the traditions of Stanko’s grandfather, the Radikon estate in Oslavia focuses on Ribolla Gialla, with vineyards planted on steep clay and shale slopes, meticulously farmed by hand. Since 1995, Stanko progressively returned to historical methods, extending maceration from 7 days to 3 months and eliminating sulphur entirely by 2002, crafting age-worthy wines that are, in Stanko's words, "totally genuine." While the core of the estate was formed around plantings of Ribolla Gialla, Stanko’s parents also added small parcels of Merlot, Tocai Friulano and Pinot Grigio.

This 3781 Riserva is only produced in the best vintages, with the number representing parcel of the best grapes harvested that year. 100% Ribolla Gialla which sees three months skin contact, four years in barrel, and then ten years in bottle prior to release.

    Other Reviews....
A blend of dried apricot, ginger, incense and cedar shavings wafts up from the 2009 Ribolla 3781 to form its spicy bouquet. This is surprisingly fresh and energetic, following the performance on the nose, yet quickly gains in tension as saline minerals and citrus tones saturate. The 2009 tapers off earthy and savory, leaving suggestions of sous bois and a salty flourish that lingers on. The Ribolla 3781 is a harvest selection from the 2009 vintage. This spends four years in barrel following three months of maceration on the skins. Radikon has since lowered the aging period to three years in barrel to reduce some of the oxidation present here. Drink 2024-2031.

Formerly known as 'Box Distillery', High Coast started production in 2010 with the inaugural release in 2014. Already famous for their peated styles, the quality must be impressive to have caught Adelphi's attention! 2018 Adelphi Lochlea 5 Year Old Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
    Lowlands, SCOTLAND
    $219. 99
    Bottle
    $2639.88 Dozen
    ABV: 59.2%

A name that will be new to most whisky lovers: Thirty minutes drive south from Glasgow, nestled in the heart of Ayrshire, Lochlea is an independent family-owned distillery - now a rare thing in the Scotch whisky industry. Producing since 2018, their approach is small-batch, innovative and flexible without the constraints of a large corporate structure. Barley is grown on the farm and an on-site water source is employed, so there's full traceability over production. Adelphi's selection was matured in a single first fill Bourbon barrel. 265 bottles are on offer at 59.2% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.

Ardnamurchan AD/ Sauternes Cask Release Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
    Highlands, SCOTLAND
    $149. 99
    Bottle
    $1799.88 Dozen
    ABV: 50%

Not only have Ardnamurchan been busy celebrating the distillery turning ten years old, they've also launched their first ever Sauternes cask malt. It's made up of unpeated spirit initially matured for over five years in first-fill bourbon casks before being transferred to Sauternes barriques for an additional 2.5 years. Clocking up eight years in oak makes it one of the distillery's oldest releases to date. Bottled at high strength, the batch equates to 6000 bottles across the globe.

For those who don't already know, Sauternes is a famous Bordeaux wine region synonymous with the world's finest sweet white wines. No surprise then that the secondary ageing adds another twist to the Hebridean spirit - a nose full of apricot jam, almond flakes, marzipan, brioche and dried stone fruit, followed by a finish that's less sweet than the nose, wonderfully balanced and slightly dry with some of that classic Ardnamurchan salinity shining through. 50% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.

The vodka's clean, crisp taste and silky texture makes it ideal for enjoying neat, on the rocks or as a superior base for cocktails.

Notes from the producers... Nose: Delicate grain notes with a clean, subtle sweetness. Palate: Exceptionally smooth, with a gentle sweetness and a hint of peppery spice. Finish: Crisp, refreshing, and enduringly smooth, leaving a pure aftertaste. 43% Alc./Vol.

Distilleria Valverde Amaro di Langa (700ml)
    ITALY
    $99. 99
    Bottle
    $1199.88 Dozen
    ABV: 26%

The Birello family have been preparing this Amaro since 1973, the same year their company was founded with a dream to set up their own business in liqueurs and grappa. It was initially labeled as 'Pilger', but in 2009 it became Amaro di Langa after the recipe was improved with the addition of a good percentage of herbs from local farms, including mallow, lemon balm, hyssop, lavender, rosemary and damask rose. They also use herbs, flowers and roots known for their digestive and bittering properties such as gentian, wormwood, nutmeg, yarrow and bitter orange. It adds up to a total of 26 ingredients, all cold macerated for a more delicate extraction. The resulting aromatics are complex, deep, rich and enticing with nutmeg and bitter herbaceous notes married with bitter orange, mint and gentian, hints of poached fruits and traces of cinnamon warmth. Softer, rounder and less assertive than the nose anticipates, the palate strikes a fine balance between sweet and bitter, with subtle notes of gentian, cinchona, cola and soft spices through the finish - a good starting point for newcomers to the category. 26% Alc./Vol.

Nikka Days Blended Japanese Whisky (700ml)
    JAPAN
    $77. 99
    Bottle
    $935.88 Dozen
    ABV: 40%

Other reviews... Unquestionably the softest, least aggressive whisky I have tasted for the 2020 Whisky Bible. 89 points - Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2020

...Nikka Days is probably the newest product to join the Nikka stable - only released in mid-2020, it joins other blended whisky expressions from Nikka such as the Nikka Tailored, Super Nikka, Nikka From The Barrel, and many more. As the name suggests, this was designed for easy daily drinking and is a Bourbon cask aged blend of malt and grain whiskies from across the Nikka spectrum and likely from the Ben Nevis Scotch distillery as well (making it not purely a Japanese whisky). It comes in a really pretty bottled with a yellow theme that is a really nice pop on an otherwise traditionally more muted whisky shelf. This was as expected very approachable, easy to drink, but with a nice added hit of citrusy flavours and smoked cream which amounts to a decent complexity. For an entry level whisky, the aroma and finish was particularly standout and definitely made me feel that this punched above its weight. If you’re going to buy something entry level, I genuinely think this should be your pick. It’s not over-oaked, it’s not thin to a sin, no off notes or sharpness, nor is it actually bad in any way - for the most part it’s quite the delight. Don’t count this one out. Solid pick, cute bottle, nice whisky. - 88bamboo.co

    2023 Novum Chardonnay
    Marlborough, NEW ZEALAND
    $59. 99
    Bottle
    $719.88 Dozen
    Cellar: Drink now - 6 Years (2025-2031)
    ABV: 14%
    Closure: Diam Cork

A beautifully finessed Chardonnay that combines power and freshness with a refined feel.

From a family who have been managing vineyards in Marlborough since the 1970's, after a significant stint at Fromm winery, ending as General Manager, Will Hoare and his wife Rachel decided to venture out on their own to produce wine from the incredible vineyards they had access to. For this wine fruit was sourced from a block in the central Wairau plains of Marlborough planted entirely with the Mendoza clone around the mid 1980’s. Originally a riverbed, this block is naturally warm during the day, as well as at night, thanks to the radiating effect of the exposed greywacke rock lying beneath the vines. The rock radiates heat up into the canopy, making this vineyard an ideal site for ripening Chardonnay.

Brilliant pale straw colour with a watery hue. Showing wonderful aromatic lift, the nose is engulfed with ripe white peach, dried honey and more subtle crème brulee scents which are trailed by some biscuity nougat, cashew and spice notes. The palate features a refined, creamy like textural feel with rich fleshy peach, dried honey and crème brulee flavours filling the mouth. Citrusy nougat, cashew, biscuit and delicate infusions of gun flint lie underneath. Fresh and amply powered it finishes long and beautifully finessed.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.

Firework flint, lemon oil and yellow peach cheeks. Grapefruit sorbet and cold butter log. Almond milk creaminess with a deft handling of oak on the palate. Cumin, powdered ginger and white pepper. This delivers the charitable dimensions of chardonnay with a breeze of gently rolling acidity and brilliance of a chiselled precious stone. Peach cream and baked meringue on the finish. Drinking beautifully and will age further. Wonderful to see the confidence and precision from a new player. Very exciting. Drink by 2028.

    Cappelletti Aperitivo Mazzura (750ml)
    ITALY
    $39. 99
    Bottle
    $479.88 Dozen
    ABV: 17%

Antica Erboristeria Cappelletti was established in 1906 in the historic Piazza Fiera in the center of Trento. Today they're located 20 km south of Trento in Aldeno, surrounded by vineyards and apple orchards. As the name would suggest, the firm was and remains focused on products made from traditional herbs, roots and flowers. They achieved fame in the region for their amari and aperitivi, including the classic red bitter Aperitivo Cappelletti. All production is done in house by the fourth generation of the family, Luigi and Maddalena Cappelletti.

This ruby-red aperitif includes botanicals sourced from the Dolomite hills and valleys in Italy's Triveneto region, the birthplace of the Spritz. Mazzura's colour comes from a unique blend of flowers and fruits that is entirely natural. Its aromas conjure red apples, cinnamon and bitter notes of gentian and citrus peel, while the flavour features subtle herbal accents, like fresh thyme and rosemary plus a tang of citrus and a pleasing bitterness. Enjoy over ice with a splash of soda, or try it in a Negroni or Boulevardier or Spritz. 17% Alc./Vol. Vegan friendly.

Foursquare Magisterium Exceptional Cask Selection Mark XXVI 16 Year Old Full Proof Single Blended Rum (700ml)
    BARBADOS
    $250. 00
    Bottle
    $3000.00 Dozen
    ABV: 58%

"Richard Seale has done it again. Magisterium is such a fun rum that carves its own path, even after 26 specialized releases in the ECS series."

Marque number XXVI (26) in the Exceptional Cask Series is the curiously named 'Magisterium', a blend of three 16-year-old single blended rums distilled in two stills: a Double-Retort Pot Still and a Continuous Twin Column Coffey Still. Out of the three rums, two were double-matured. One spent three years aging in ex-bourbon casks and 13 years in ex-oloroso sherry barrels; another spent nine years in ex-bourbon casks and seven years in ex-oloroso sherry. The third component was matured exclusively in ex-bourbon barrels for 16 years. That makes it the first heavily sherried expression since the ECS Sovereignty, widely regarded as a series favourite. The make up should appeal equally to lovers of dark, brooding cask strength single malts, as much as Foursquare fans. The final rum is bottled at 58% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews... The rum is 16 years old and it does have a very pronounced oak notes initially. There is a sweetness that mingles nicely alongside the bitter oak char. Which prevents either element from unbalancing the mix. Beneath this we have an array of rich dark fruits – almost like a Black Forest Gateaux filling. The rum is more intense and less sweet than the nose suggested. The mid palate takes on an intense oak and dry astringency. Lifted by notes of dark chocolate and those dark fruits. There are hints of leather and a little shoe polish from time to time. The finish on Foursquare Magisterium is quite dry and again exhibits a fair amount of oak. It is long and very satisfying with a very lip smacking flavour! This is a another great entry into the Exceptional Cask Series. I have really enjoyed re-acquainting myself with a Foursquare rum as I haven’t had one for a while. Still producing really good stuff and still upping the ante in terms of tropical ageing. - thefatrumpirate.com

"An understated essay in excellence..." - Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2025-26

What was the 'Extremely Rare 18 year old' is now titled 'Infinita 18 Year Old', with packaging updated to a vibrant blue gift box with copper accents. The expression is said to be a favourite of Glenmorangie's Director of Whisky Creation, Dr Bill Lumsden. He says: “For me, Glenmorangie Infinita encapsulates every element of our house style in perfect harmony and is our most deliciously complex creation. There are aromas of honey, vanilla, narcissus and jasmine, and tastes of figs, dates, nuts, gentle spices and more. Fans of Glenmorangie 18 Years Old can rest assured that our wondrous whisky is unchanged. I’m sure they’ll agree that, as its new name suggests, Glenmorangie Infinita is deliciousness without end.” The whisky retains its flavour profile from Glenmorangie's characteristic distillation process and maturation in ex-bourbon and ex-oloroso sherry casks. 43% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews... This marriage of bourbon and oloroso sherry casks on Glenmorangie’s revamped 18 year old has created a delightful nose of heather honey, toasted oak, citrus peel, candied ginger, mandarin orange flan, lemon zest, icing sugar, and floral notes. Polished and elegant on the taste buds, with honeyed fruits, peach, mandarin, pepper, clove, and orange cake, with little licks of smoke, sultana, oak, and Olde English marmalade on the lengthy finish. 92 points - whiskyadvocate.com

...extra time has changed things more than a little: The nose is richly earthy and laden with umami notes, almost leathery and vegetal rather than clearly herbal or grassy. A light furniture polish note adds a level of austerity to the experience. The palate at last sweetens things up, its baked apple character mixing with toasted almonds and crushed graham crackers, making for a chewy cobbler experience. A gentle beefiness endures here, some of that rye-driven greenery evoking rosemary and thyme. But watch carefully for a final burst of strawberries on the conclusion, along with a touch of saffron, which perk this rather savory experience up enough to keep things lively. - drinkhacker.com

Wakaze 'The Classic' Junmai Sake (720ml)
    Yamagata, JAPAN
    $76. 99
    Bottle
    $923.88 Dozen
    ABV: 13%
    Closure: Screw Cap

Wakaze blends tradition and innovation, crafting sake with a uniquely global perspective. Their 'Classic' Japan is brewed in Yamagata to the same specifications as its Parisian counterpart, using table rice with a minimal polishing rate (90%) and White Koji mould for a touch of sweetness and bright acidity. The result is a creamy, umami-rich sake that reflects Wakaze’s modern approach.

Tasting note: Pale lemon in the glass with a faint cloudy haze. Aromatically the nose leans savoury, opening with dried mushroom, rice bran, and yoghurt, with subtle dried fruit lurking beneath. Given time and with some warmth the fresh green fruit begins to emerge. The palate takes a more familiar approach, offering richer notes of earthy rice, cream, and candied ginger, complemented by hints of green melon, pawpaw, and white strawberry. A touch of sweetness on the finish adds balance, preventing the savoury elements from dominating. You could serve this at various points in the meal as it would compliment starters like tempura prawns or vegetables, or later alongside warm meat dishes.
Serve chilled or at room temperature.

Be aware that Bailly noted that to this point the Bougros had only seen contact with stainless steel though it's possible he may rack it into barrel for a few months before it's bottled. A cool and reserved nose grudgingly offers up a combination of pronounced smoky mineral reduction, quinine and ocean breeze. The powerful, concentrated and muscular big-bodied flavors possess a lovely sense of underlying tension that also suffuses the crisp, very dry and beautifully long finish. This isn't refined, indeed it's borderline rustic but then again, elegance isn't why one buys Bougros. Drink through 2031+.

The Bougros is made from purchased grapes. All in tank so far but will probably have a spell in barrel, to remove the minor reduction. A luminous lemon and lime colour. Actually, the reduction on the nose is minimal, though there are some interesting grenadine notes on the palate which is otherwise not too exuberant. Citrus zest infuses the back of the palate. Whilst some have pushed the barrier a little too far, overshooting the mark in their pursuit of elegance and freshness at the sacrifice of Barossa’s trademark richness, these boys regularly hit the bullseye. Right through their range of reds they are a model of consistency combining Barossa’s famed rich fruit with supple textures, a delicious savouriness and a fresh feel, never losing sight of what Barossa does best – produce rich, opulent full bodied reds.

Rich, seductive and deeply fruited with a plush feel.

The Marschall Family vineyards are located in the Tanunda and Ebenezer districts of the Barossa Valley with vines aged between 25 to 55 years old. Maturation takes place in a mix of new and seasoned oak hogsheads for a period of 14 months.
Dense inky black heart with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Aromas of liquorice and dark plum engulf the nostrils with hints of ripe blueberry, vanillin cedar, fennel and peppered earth notes also chiming in. Fennel, spicy vanillin cedar and peppered earth characters sit in the background. Showing ample power it has velvet smooth tannins and a sleek feel. Long, deeply fruited, pepper laced finish.

A more quintessential Glen Elgin would be hard to find.

The official importer of The Single Malts of Scotland range has landed another very desirable Australian Exclusive. 260 bottles of this underdog malt from Fogwatt in Speyside are on offer. Revered by blenders, Glen Elgin's forte is its fruitiness - and the best examples are not just fruity, they're lush. Clear wort, a long fermentation time and slow distillation help shape its signature profile. Condensing then takes place in worm tubs adding body and complexity (it remains one of only a handful of distilleries that still uses worm tubs). Official bottlings are a rare sight these days with only a 12YO in production as part of Diageo's Hidden Malt range. In this Bourbon matured expression, the nose speaks of honey drizzled cereals and ripe cantaloupe. The oily delivery is gorgeously textural, thick, fruity and long with ripe pears and poached apples balanced by a flash of tangerine zest and a gentle tannic grip. There is a strong semblance to high class Linkwood, Cragganmore or even some Clynelish in its delicious, almost tropical fruitiness and threads of beeswax. If you've never tasted this style of malt, here's a perfect place to start. A more quintessential Glen Elgin would be hard to find. 56.5% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.

Notes from the importers... Nose: Pear drops, waxy apple skins, paraffin candles, cinnamon sticks and creme brulee coalesce in a portrait of apple strudel dusted with icing sugar. Taste: Creamy and tropical, notes of juicy pineapple and strawberry cream combine with freshly baked apple pie and rich vanilla. Absolutely gorgeous! Finish: Juicy, creamy and light - medium length.

The 2016 Champagne Vintage Brut is the new release and is composed of 70% Pinot Noir from Verzy and the rest Chardonnay from Chouilly. A slightly richer golden straw hue, it has a floral bouquet on the nose and is a very pretty vintage of this wine aromatically. It’s sappy with lemon confit and is salty throughout the palate, revealing the weight of the Pinot Noir but retaining wonderful freshness. This lovely wine is going to take some time to open aromatically, but it’s going to be worth the wait. Drink it over the coming 15 years. It’s a going to be a stunning wine for pairings. 7 gram per liter dosage in this wine and in the collection. Drink 2024-2040.

With heat spikes exceeding 40 degrees Celsius after the 15th of August, this was not an easy year. Some grape skins suffered from sunburn, and the year saw below average rain and no snow in the mountains. The Bartolo Mascarello 2023 Dolcetto d'Alba required strict fruit selection executed by hand, cluster to cluster. The important factor was removing the berries with burnt skins across the varieties they work with. Nebbiolo yields were down 25% to 30% in 2023 as a result. Aged in oak for nine months, this wine offers dark fruit, raisin and baked plum aromas. It finishes on the short side because the skin-to-pulp ratio leans to more pulp in this vintage. You also get nicely balanced acidity in this medium-plus wine. In terms of Dolcetto, this wine speaks with a quieter voice, which ultimately makes for a nice surprise. Drink 2025-2028.

The 2023 Dolcetto d'Alba is an absolute joy. Floral, medium in body and nervy, the 2023 is a super-classic wine that reminds me of Dolcettos from another time, but it has the fruit purity that is typical of the best Piedmont wines today. Readers will find a wine of understatement and class. Drink 2024-2029.

The 2023 Dolcetto d'Alba is a jewel-like magenta color and is lifted and fresh on the nose with highlights of red fruit accenting the pretty floral and darker berry notes of the Dolcetto, along with notes of fresh purple flowers, ripe berries, and wet stones. The palate offers brilliant intensity, complemented by electric acidity, ripe fruit, and a snappy, crunchy feel that persists through the finish. It offers a good deal of nervous energy at this early stage and will benefit from another 6-12 months in the bottle, although it should retain its poppy freshness for a considerable amount of time. Drink 2025-2035.

This wine is on the market now. The Bartolo Mascarello 2020 Barolo represents a blend of fruit from five sites for the first time, Maria Teresa Mascarello tells me excitedly. The classic blend of the recent past saw fruit from Rue and Cannubi in Barolo and Rocche dell’Annunziata in La Morra. San Lorenzo, if only with fruit from a mere 3,000 square meters of seven-year-old vines, returns to the blend with this vintage. The wine also has fruit from Monrobio di Bussia from 4,000 square meters of leased vineyards. (Monrobio di Bussia took the place of San Lorenzo from the 2015 to the 2019 vintages). The Rue vineyard measures 4,000 square meters and has 35-year-old plants. Rocche dell’Annunziata measures 1.3 hectares, and its vines range from 35 to 40 years old. The oldest vines in Cannubi reach 70 years in age, but replanting over the years has introduced 15-, 20- and 25-year-old plants. The site measures one hectare and makes up about one-third of this wine (with fruit sourced from across a total of 3.3 hectares). Rocche dell’Annunziata also makes up one-third of the blend.
Fermentation times were long in 2020, lasting 55 days, with 42 days of submerged cap. This process allows the aromas and flavors to develop slowly and with added nuance. The vintage is considered hot; however, 2020 saw a "different kind of heat," Maria Teresa Mascarello tells me. Much-needed water reserves remained intact from winter and spring that saw snow and rain. "There was more disease pressure in 2020, but it wasn't too bad; and the wines show full-bodied ripeness," she says. This vintage was bottled in summer 2024. The wine reveals a soft side, with supple tannins, dark cherry fruit, dried herb, tea leaf and a hint of wild mint. The bouquet is open and does not hold back, especially in terms of its fruit-forward appeal. It feels linear and sharp on the palate, with balanced acidity that keeps it bright. Drink 2026-2050.

The 2020 Barolo is classy, elegant and polished, just as it was last year. Crushed flowers, sage, citrus mint, spice, cedar and pipe tobacco give this ethereal, nuanced Barolo notable aromatic presence. All the elements are very nicely balanced. This is an especially ethereal Barolo from Maria Teresa Mascarello. Nervy tannins lend verve throughout. It will be interesting to see how this ages. Drink 2028-2040.

This vintage is extremely floral, offering restrained violets, linden tree, camphor and balsamic tones and fresh redcurrants. On the full-bodied palate there is great licorice-stick flavor with refreshing, lifted acidity and firm, velvety tannins that are savory and ripe. Bright expression of Barolo, full of detail, more elegant than powerful. Drinkable now, but best after 5 years.

The 2020 Barolo is a transparent red hue and offers an approachable Grenache-like ease on the nose that is quite pretty and fruity with aromas of candied strawberries, hints of purple flowers, herbes de Provence, and sweet earth. The palate is savory and more classic in its structure, with refined yet well-defined tannins, refreshing, bright acidity, and driving notes of orange peel, apricot pit, and salty earth through an elegant and long finish. As is always the case, it is sourced from the four crus of Cannubi, Rocche dell’Annunziata, San Lorenzo, and Rue. While it feels approachable now, with a charming, juicy feel upfront, it should have a wide window for enjoyment and solid longevity over the coming two decades. Drink 2025-2045.

In the blend of Maria Teresa Mascarello's Barolo 2020, the replanted San Lorenzo vineyard makes a comeback, with a small portion of young-vine fruit. It was harvested on 2 October, while the rest (from Rocche dell'Annunziata and Cannubi) was picked from 4-8 October, after the rain. The result is a wine with a backdrop of very fresh redcurranty fruits, violets, deep spices including liquorice root, as well as hints of linden, almost camphor, and wild strawberry. A defined expression demonstrating a lot of maturity and savouriness. Drink 2024-2040.

Rich red to black fruits seamlessly integrated within a refined medium bodied structure.

The 2022 vintage marks 50 years of Wirra Wirra Church Block, the first vintage being produced back in 1972. A blend of 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Shiraz and 7% Merlot matured for 12 months in a combination of new and seasoned French and American oak barrels.

"...A cracking addition to the Spot range, my favourite so far in fact" - dramface.com

Blue Spot is one of Ireland’s heritage whiskies, produced originally by Mitchell & Son in Dublin using whiskey from the John Jameson & Sons Distillery. Its revival brings back the entire 'Spot range' of Green, Yellow, Red, and Blue for the first time since the 1960s. Blue Spot debuted in 2020 and since then it's been an annual limited release with the ABV varying from batch to batch. The whiskey is a precocious 7-year-old cask-strength offering matured in a combination of ex-Bourbon, Sherry and Madeira wine casks – a nod to the Mitchell family’s history as wine merchants, known for importing Madeira wine from Portugal. Non chill filtered.

Other reviews... Spot whiskeys inhabit a flavor profile between Redbreast's fruitiness and Powers' muscularity, and this feisty newcomer completes the family with its nose of baked apple, spiced nuts, toffee, very crisp spices, and cool mint. The creamy palate of melted toffee and condensed milk layers on tangy citrus, bitter peels, baked lemon, apple, dried cherry, and walnut, with peppery pot still spices running amok at full strength. 91 points - whiskyadvocate.com

...A cracking addition to the Spot range, my favourite so far in fact… yes, it’s even better than the Whisky Exchange 26 year old which is basically just Marsala and wood. This however has plenty going on. It’s thick and oily texture wise with a great flavour development and time just seems to give more and more aromas and nuanced flavours with the Madeira element very well judged. In fact I was very fortunate to try the Madeira element on its own and it wasn’t particularly stunning or interesting but added into the mix here, it really imbued its citrus and walnut notes without overpowering proceedings. Don’t let that 7 year old age statement put you off either, like it potentially did a customer in my local off-licence. He loved the 12 and 15 year old Spots but couldn’t see how a 7 year old, even at cask strength, could offer value or a better experience compared to the higher age statements. I let him know the youngest whiskey may well indeed be 7 years old but there were older whiskies in the vatting with the Madeira component actually being 20 years old. Age statement situation cleared up, he duly bought a bottle. - dramface.com

...The nose has a tropical tartness with touches of lime, pineapple, and a hint of banana balanced by subtle spices and nuttiness with a touch of apple pie. The taste is spicy, oaky, and nutty with a very complex balance of baking spices, black pepper, touches of tropical fruits, and a hint of hazelnut. The finish is amazingly long and complex with a nice tropical character. Outstanding! (November, 2020) 95 points - whiskycast.com

The palate begins with warm baked fruits, watermelon, crystalized sugar, clove, pepper, Red Vines, red apple, taffy, and fruity red wine before a spicy finish. The cautious addition of a little water opens it up fully. 91 points - whiskyadvocate.com

...Lovely bottle with some kind of mermaid, would go well for suntan lotion too. No, really. I hope the wood treatment remained kind of moderate, because I think I have noticed that they've been cranking them up with last year's SRs. For example, this is ex-bourbon (good) and wine (bad) casks. Wine casks, wazzat? What is 'a wine cask'? Could we remain focused on the whiskies? Colour: gold. Nose: cask-driven. Vanilla, cakes, Nutella, macchiato. Starbucks whisky. With water: more Nutella. I just hope no orang-outangs have been harmed along the process. Mouth (neat): good for sure but indeed, there is a lot of Nescafé and Nutella. With water: roasted hazelnut and more Nescafé. Finish: medium, very dry, pretty oaky. Comments: I can't quite see how and why this would be 'Rare and Exceptional', but indeed it is rather 'Fair and Okay'. Now I've heard they'll soon launch new expressions of Ord that will be much closer to the Distillery's brilliant own character, in the vein of the magical official 28 and 30 of old. While the origins of this domaine date back to Charles-Louis-Noel Billaud in 1815, it's the current generation winemaker Samuel Billaud that has made waves with the exceptional quality of his wines produced since the creation of this project in 2009. Following the sale of the family business Domaine Billaud-Simon to Faiveley in 2014, Samuel received further prized parcels of land and now makes wines from five of the grand cru vineyards, and five of the top premier cru vineyards. The wines are vinified in a mixture of stainless steel and large old wood barrels, the latter mainly for the premier and grand cru wines.

As one would expect in a vintage like 2022, there is a suggestion of the exotic lurking in the background of the ripe nose of white-fleshed fruit, wet stone and shellfish scents. The rich, full-bodied and overtly powerful medium weight plus flavors coat the palate with sappy dry extract while delivering fine length on the balanced finale. This does however need to develop more depth though that should reasonably occur if allowed at least a few years of bottle aging. Worth checking out. Drink through 2030+.

Bottled in May after 18 months. Clear pale colour with a little light lime touch. This stands back, suggesting that it really needs to be kept. Samuel Billaud has moved to DIAM 30 with that in mind. Exceptional density, based around the dry extract, a little lick of oak, this has barely begun to touch its full potential. Drink from 2027-2034.

An elegant, pure and beautifully airy nose presents ripe but wonderfully fresh aromas of mineral reduction, acacia blossom and oyster shell trimmed in enough wood to merit mentioning. The racy and borderline painfully intense middleweight flavors exude a bracing minerality that adds a sense of lift to the detailed, focused and lingering finale that is neither especially dry nor austere. Other than a trace of backend warmth, this is a classic MdT though one that could use better depth, so a few years of patience will be necessary. Drink through 2030+.

The 2022 Chablis Montée de Tonnerre 1er Cru has a very impressive bouquet with wonderful marine-inflected malic scents, quite strict and focused, leaning more to traditional old school Chablis. The palate is very well balanced with a sapid entry, linear and strict with a twist of sour lemon on the finish. Excellent. Drink 2025-2042.

Fresh mid lemon. Very classy on the nose, with the extra fruit-driven intensity. A brilliant core with the extra fruit from this sunny site making it more accessible. A tropical take on grapefruit promotes a lovely aftertaste Drink from 2027-2035.

This is aromatically quite similar to the Bougros with ample wood if a bit more floral and citrus elements in play. The sleeker and finer medium-bodied flavors also possess excellent volume as well as more evident minerality that adds lift to the attractively textured and sneaky long back. Once again, better depth would be a major plus so a few years of bottle aging are in order. Drink through 2030+.

The 2022 Chablis Blanchot Grand Cru, located mid-slope from 30-35-year-old vines, has a very complex bouquet: Granny Smiths, struck flint, hints of oyster shell and seaweed developing with time in the glass. The palate is very well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, a little more weight than the Bougros but maybe not quite the same ethereal degree of mineralité. Nevertheless, this will age beautifully in bottle. Drink 2027-2048.

Aged for 12 months in wood, then 6 in tank on the lees, which is the standard for all the grands crus. Light lemon yellow, a little oaky on the nose. Coconut too on the palate, but these aspects are just some top notes on top of a wealth of fruit with an excellent crystalline acidity. Very persistent. Drink from 2028-2038.

    2023 Willem Kurt Beechworth Chardonnay

    $539.88 Dozen

Willem Kurt wines begun its life as a garage project initially purchasing fruit and making wine from its rented winery space. It wasn’t until 2017 that a paddock of land was purchased, and vines planted. Winemaker Daniel Balzer employs simple winemaking techniques in order to emphasis the fruit, barrel fermentation and maturation in French oak (25% new) with only select barrels undergoing lees stirring and malolactic fermentation.

    Other Reviews....
Another stylish and complex chardonnay for this label. Embraces a chalky, savoury, citrus flintiness that is so convincingly good, convincingly Beechworth in personality. Nectarine, white peach, preserved lemon, gun flint backed by baked bread, toasted almond and spice. Acidity is a feature here, bringing a tensile quality. Mouth-watering grapefruit pithy finish. Drink 2024 - 2033.

The world is crazy for Beechworth chardonnay and why the heck wouldn’t it be.
There’s an inherent complexity to this chardonnay. It pushes hay into peach, smoked bacon into grapefruit, and oatmeal into citrus, and while it has semblances of slippery smoothness – or richness, even – it feels energetic throughout, and ultimately lengthy. The way flavour sweeps through the finish is particularly enjoyable, and of particular note. This is another winner under the Willem Kurt label. Drink 2025 - 2031+

Highland Park Viking Honour 12 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml) - Plus Bonus Cask Strength 50ml Miniature
    Orkney Islands, SCOTLAND
    $99. 99
    Bottle
    $1199.88 Dozen
    ABV: 40%

Comes with a bonus 50ml miniature bottle of the high-octane Cask Strength Release No.3.

Ranked alongside the classic malts, revered as a spectacular after-dinner drink and without doubt '...a malt to challenge any Cognac or Armagnac', Highland Park's house style is fragrant and floral with a smooth, honeyed character over hints of citrus and smoke. The phenol content of their proprietary malt is 30-40ppm but the remainder which is imported from Simpson's is unpeated. Employing roughly 20% first-fill sherry casks, the distillery is serious about quality oak, spending $20 million a year on wood alone, more than any other Scotch distillery - despite having a fraction of the output of some of the larger brands.

First released in 1979, the 12 year old remains the best introduction to the Orkney legend. A name change and packaging update took place in 2017. It's now called 'Viking Honour', adding to what seems like a never-ending series of Nordic themed labels. This special gift pack edition will please bargain hunters. It comes with a 50ml cask strength HP - a massive, extra smokey limited release bottled at a whopping 64.1% Alc./Vol!

12YO Retasted 2019 ...Surprisingly full at 40% ABV but loses vitality and flattens out towards the finish. Otherwise, mostly unchanged from our first tasting back in 2012. Subtle nashi-pear fruitiness combines with a judicious slap of peat and a spicy flourish. More peaty than some previous bottlings with drying brine, spice and smoke lingering. Closer to the HP style of 15 years ago.

Other reviews... "The sweet aroma is very inviting and draws you in closer to inspect the dram. The honey'd and vanilla fragrance takes a turn on the palate replaced by grass and pineapple. A lemon twist or two comes next with the peat smoke just teasing your senses." 91 points - drinkhacker.com

...This amber spirit has a light, briny vanilla scent and a silky feel. A veil of smoke rises through the Scotch (but fades out fast), leaving behind a sweet nutty, vanilla finish93 points - wineenthusiast.com

More Viking paraphernalia… Could we at least have Lagertha? Colour: gold. Nose: not my preferred style of HP either, but this is fresher, fruitier, more lively, even if the core is kind of similar. Bitter oranges, marmalade, ginger, ale, whiffs of pumpernickel bread, oak spices, a little leather and tobacco… Indeed I like this nose better. Mouth: no questions, this is more refreshing despite the ‘seasoning’ that’s a little too apparent to me. Pepper, oak spices, black tea, grass smoke… Nice earthy honey beyond these bitterish spices. Finish: medium, spicy, with an obvious tannicity. Comments: they seem to have used active seasoned wood too here, but the spices and the leather were better controlled in my opinion. But indeed I much prefer the brighter, distillate-driven HPs. Because what a distillate it is indeed! 83 points - whiskyfun.com

Springbank 15 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml) - 2024 Bottling
    Campbeltown, SCOTLAND
    $399. 00
    Bottle
    $4788.00 Dozen
    ABV: 46%

Why has Springbank been so hard to get of late? Quite simply, the distillery has always had a relatively low output. Patchy supply has been an issue for quite a number of years, but that's slowly changing. Production has increased marginally, but it will be quite some time before there's sufficient age stated stock is available to meet year-round global demand. In the meantime, allocations from the official Australian importer remain negligible. Just landed is another tiny instalment of the 15 year old, this time matured in Oloroso sherry casks. 46% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.

Other reviews... The issue for me remains the same: it’s nearly impossible to beat the 10-year-old, even more so in terms of quality/price ratio. In short, the 15 is sold at twice the price of the 10. This is the 2024 release in our glass—I imagine the 2025 version is already in the pipeline. Colour: gold. Nose: a restrained sherry greets us, with the distillate in full command of itself, brimming with Springbankness. Damp plaster, fresh concrete, low tide, paint pot, lemon, menthol, old ointments, and not the slightest trace of sulphur this time. We found a bit in an earlier version, but that was back in 2017. Mouth: less luminous than the 10 OB, with more leather and simply more sherry (old walnuts) as well as tobacco, yet the brininess is spot-on, before things shift more towards bitter oranges rather than lemons. Finish: long, oily, with a touch of curry and very peppery olive oil. Comments: excellent, as expected, but as the old ad used to say, I wouldn’t trade two bottles of the 15 for one of the 10. Well, there we are… 88 points - whiskyfun.com

Notes from the producers... Nose: Hints of dried fruits, oak, and a subtle maritime influence. Taste: Layers of toffee, vanilla, and a touch of peat. Finish: Long and warm.

A fruity, saline laced white that carries gorgeous textural shape.

Bright straw colour with a watery hue. Aromas of pear, lime and green apple fill the nostrils followed by some Mediterranean herb infusions and stony mineral notes that have a saline like edge. Delicious pear and green to red apple fruits carry gorgeous textural shape across the palate. Traces of lime, tangerine, wet slate and a saline like minerality lie underneath. Crisp acidity with a long fruity, saline laced finish.

    Light, tense, energetic Chardonnay.

Brilliant pale straw colour with subtle flecks of green to the edges and a watery hue. Delicate citrus and green apple aromas are trailed by some lime juice, faint orange blossom and stony mineral notes. The light, energetic palate features frisky lime juice and green apple fruits which have a back bone of crisp acidity. Some subtle stony mineral elements are also evident. Tense racy feel with a very focused finish.

From a single site. A few hours of skin contact before fermentation and maturation in seasoned barriques. A brilliant green gold. Restrained with aromas of just-ripened orchard fruits, yellow plum, orange blossom and grilled hazelnuts. Really persistent, balanced, tensile and long. A lovely wine destined to blossom over the next, at least, seven to 10 years. Drink by 2030.

The boundaries are being pushed – it’s 11% alcohol – but there’s good flavour here, not to mention style, not to mention an extra kick of flavour through the finish. Indeed there’s more than a little x-factor to this wine. Lactose, grapefruit, pear, green apple and fennel flavours come with a light coating of custard powder and woodsmoke. It all sails so beautifully along. There’s a floral element here too; if ever a wine benefited from being decanted, it’s this one. Every time I returned to my glass it had something else to say.
