Haig Gold Label Blended Scotch Whisky (700ml)SCOTLAND$49. 99Bottle$599.88 DozenABV: 40%Safe, reliable and consistent, as well as one of the oldest of Scotch whisky brands, Haig Gold label is an unpretentious blend with a high malt content (around 40%) and an ease of drinking that's made it one of the best-selling Scotch whiskies in the world. Its popularity declined briefly in the 1970s, but anyone who's tasted it recently agrees that current owners, Diageo, have reinvigorated this old standard significantly. Jim Murray for one. Review below. Expect a hint of pepper from the malt as it takes hold in your mouth followed by a whisper of peat on the finish. Tasting note: Deep polished copper. Nice lift with spicy cinnamon oak, vanilla, sweet malt, toasty cereals and dilute honeycomb. Good depth. Medium to full bodied. A semi sweet, juicy, textural style with bracing spices and gentle oiliness to finish. Medium length. Reminiscent of Black Douglas from a decade ago. Suits mixing. 40% Alc./Vol. Other reviews... What had before been pretty standard stuff has upped the complexity by an impressive distance. 40% Alc./Vol.

Haig Club Single Grain Scotch Whisky (700ml)Lowlands, SCOTLAND$120. 00Bottle$1440.00 DozenABV: 40%A small quantity of this David Beckham endorsed single grain whisky has just arrived. TV producer Simon Fuller is also involved here (the man who launched the Spice Girls, created the Pop Idol franchise and has managed musical icons like Annie Lennox, Steven Tyler, Amy Winehouse and sporting heroes like Beckham). The bottle and embossed branding compliments the presentation of Beckham’s perfume range. Produced at Cameronbridge distillery, where the house style is light, clean and fruity, 'Club' was matured in a variety of casks. Other reviews... A confectioner’s delight; Fry’s Five Centres, lime, lemon, kumquat, iced buns, fresh mint, and crushed cardamom that matches the chocolate aromas. Those re-charred, rejuvenated casks are very much in evidence here. It has a gilded, satiny sheen, glistening with lemon drizzle cake, butterscotch, orange matchsticks, and banana bread. Incontrovertibly, it inhabits a signature grain style, but it fizzles out with a sticky, sweet aftertaste, like licking the spoon from the icing bowl. 87 points

A wonderful old Haig has come our way, probably bottled at twelve years of age and purchased circa 1950 via a Duty Free store. Some indicative notes of the same or similar bottling from whiskyfun.com below.Other reviews... Colour: amber. Nose: much less caramelly and nutty and more phenolic. Quite some mushrooms, moisture, old wine cellar, freshly crushed mint leaves… Completely different, I guess there was much more Northern Highlanders or island malts. Just superb, with also notes of camphor arising after a while. Mouth: now it’s a little weaker than the Bellows but again, much peatier, with notes of paraffin, dried herbs, eucalyptus, cough syrup… It grows bolder with time, though, and the finish is, again, longer than expected, slightly toffeeish, minty, peaty, tary and mushroomy. Another great surprise. 85 points - whiskyfun.com

An historic name in the world of Scotch whisky. Although specialising in wine, Hedges & Butler began to produce its own blended whiskies before the Second World War, very much aimed at the top end of the market. The 1960s saw the company acquired by leading brewer, The Bass Charrington Group, but since 1998 the brand name has been owned by Ian Macleod Distillers. Given the provenance, fill-level and integrity of the screw cap seal, this relic of time should be a little gem for fans of quality Scottish blends. - Highland Queen "Grand 15" 15 Year Old Blended Scotch Whisky - Possible 1970s bottlingHighlands, SCOTLAND$150. 00Bottle$1800.00 DozenABV: 40%An old Highland Queen bottling, probably from the 1970s and bottled for the US market. It is thought that Green Plaid was worn by the first Lord of the Isles, a 12th Century Viking Warrior called Somerled. Today the Lord of the Isles tartan is incorporated into the label of each bottle of Inver House whisky.
Founded in 1964, Inver House is an independent Scottish based company. Within their portfolio there are five distilleries –Pulteney, Balblair, Speyburn, Knockdhu and Balmenach – each producing its own distinctive, individual single malt whisky. The blending of whiskies is a practise aimed at creating a product of broad appeal. It was for this purpose that Justerni & Brooks developed their now famous J&B Rare for the American market. By using a high proportion of the softer Lowland malts, J&B achieved a classic in its genre which remains one of the biggest selling whiskies on the American market.Over 40 different malt and grain whiskies are matured and then married together for an unusually long time. Distilled, blended & bottled in Scotland.
Tasting note: [2012 bottling] Pale straw colour. Nosing reveals toasty cereals, vanilla wafer and a whisper of peat. Aeration releases more cocoa. Light to medium bodied. Exhibits a lovely malt/grain balance with gentle spices and a fluff of peat adding depth at mid palate. Finishes crisp, clean and beautifully dry with good persistence. In its latest incarnation, one of the best value blends on the market.

Weighing in at an impressive 51% ABV, 'The Celebratory Blend' takes its inspiration from a “breakthrough moment” in John Walker & Sons’ history – the debut of 'Old Highland Whisky' in the 1860s, the company’s first commercial blend to travel from Scotland to across the globe. Described as “rich and complex” the blend revisits the flavours from the Walker family’s grocery store in the 1860s and uses liquid from distilleries that were in operation at the time. - John Walker & Sons Bicentenary Blend 28 Year Old Blended Scotch Whisky (750ml)SCOTLAND$1299. 00Bottle$15588.00 DozenABV: 46%This is the most limited in the 200th Anniversary series, and also the most expensive. Rare and exceptional whiskies, including ghost stocks from distilleries like Pittyvaich, Cambus and Port Ellen (all at least 28 years old), have been explored to craft a whisky that re-imagines the exotic flavours of the 1820s. PALATE: The first sip opens the doors to reveal delicious layers of spice mingling with sweet honey and rich molasses inspired by the rows of tempting jars. Other reviews... Smoke begins Jim Beveridge’s public replication of the annual Directors Blend concept, built around Johnnie Walker’s signature characteristics. Peat smoke harks back to Islay, but there’s wood smoke, tobacco leaf, and malt, with a salty richness behind it. The grain just gives it a lift of extra sweetness. Polished, with great structure; red apple, raspberry, and sweet linctus wrap up with a long, smoky finish of cigar stub and peat stores. Clear parallels with Directors Blend 2009, but better. Is this the Holy Grail of blended Scotch Whisky? The Blue Label blend echoes early pioneering days when Johnnie Walker would select a small number of whiskies in his own local grocery shop in order to create an outstanding blend for the specific tastes of a highly valued customer. John Walker and his son Alexander began their earliest blending experiments using a limited range of whiskies, drawn mainly from the islands, the western and northern Highlands and a few distilleries in Speyside. After rejecting whiskies that didn't meet their standards, they found that the very best were strictly limited in supply. Following their lead, the Johnnie Walker master-blender developed Blue Label as a celebration of the founder's unremitting standards for only the highest quality whisky. The blend is similar to the taste and character of some of the earliest whisky blends created in the 19th century, possessing a traditionally rich peaty taste combined with an exceptionally smooth, deep, distinctly malty flavour. - Johnnie Walker John Walker & Sons Private Collection Bicentennial Blend 28 Year Old Blended Scotch Whisky (700ml)SCOTLAND$1299. 00Bottle$15588.00 DozenABV: 46%

Given the contents in the bottle, this is undoubtedly one of the more collectible whisky releases EVER from Johnnie Walker. It marks the fourth edition in the Ghost and Rare series, "crafted using irreplaceable malts from ‘ghost’ distilleries that have long since closed, together with other rare malt and grain scotch.” Pittyvaich was operational for just 18 years before falling victim to industry consolidation in 1993.
Other reviews... This fourth installment of Ghost and Rare targets Speyside, delivering a contemplative nose of roasted nuts, toffee, cinnamon, crisp green apple, candied citrus, late summer honey, and seasoned oak. The palate is satin smooth, with a slightly oily mouthfeel and flavors of golden syrup, oak, orange peel, lime zest, butterscotch, vanilla, dry spice, and smoked orange wheel. A polished and rich Johnnie Walker, elevated by subtle shifts in mood.

Closing in 1981, Port Ellen has held its "Ghost" status for over 30 years, now. Yet Diageo don't seem to be running all that dry of it... Johnnie Walker believe they have done the extinct distilleries product justice with this Blue Label blend. The reviews seem to be backing up that idea too. 8 different single malts from every corner of Scotland have been used, including two more Ghost distilleries. First and foremost, Port Ellen, then grain whisky from Carsebridge and Caledonian and then malts from Dailuaine, Cragganmrore, Mortlach, Blair Athol and Oban. If you don't want to spend 4 figures to experience this near forgotten dram, then here is your chance.
Other reviews.... This uninhibited, tempestuous expression of Blue Label highlights the artistry of the blender through the judicious use of closed distillery malts and grains. Coastal notes of sea spray, lemon, dirty peat smoke, cookies and cream, After Eight mints, caramel, and dry-roasted spice aromas. Combining lemon bonbon, waxy orange, cookie dough, fondant icing, and chocolate, with tobacco smoke, hints of peppermint, and grapefruit notes, this flagrantly outclasses the Brora variant.

The world's number one selling blended Scotch and the preferred choice of whisky lovers every where. Johnnie Walker Red Label is a full-flavoured spirit that is a blend of Highland malt and Lowland grain whiskies. Red Label was originally created in 1909 for the new Scotch drinker who was inclined to mix whisky with ice, water, soda or in a variety of cocktails. By widening the range of whiskies used in his father's Old Highland Whisky, Alexander Walker developed Red Label as a smoother and lighter alternative - this was a break from the traditional deeply flavoured, full bodied Scotch whiskies of the past and was considered a more approachable drink. By 1920, Johnnie Walker Red Label had become the first truly global drinks brand, sold in over 120 countries. In 1933, the company was granted a Royal Warrant to supply Scotch to King George V, and the company has remained an official purveyor to the British Royal Household ever since. In 1996, Johnnie Walker Red Label won the Gold Medal at the International Wine and Spirits Competition, having previously picked up Silver Medals over three consecutive years. It has also consistently garnered Gold and Grand Gold Medals at the Monde Selection Awards.Tasting note: Brilliant, bright gold appearance. Aromas offer a peaty top note hovering over sweet, fat, oily grains. The palate possesses good concentration with the peat laced sweet grains and gentle spices contributing to a fat, rich, oily mouth feel. Aftertaste of vanilla and sweet cereals with the peat re-emerging. Technically faultless and an achievement given how much of this stuff is churned out. But this bottling (and they do vary) is lacking freshness being quite sweet and clunky throughout. In fact, it's almost a little out of balance. Some fresh oak required in the mix? 40% Alc./Vol.

This one celebrates Chinese New Year "The Year of the Rooster" in an eye-catching two-tone blue bottle that fades towards the base revealing a glimpse of the liquid within. A gold illustration of the Chinese Zodiac Rooster adorns three faces of the bottle. This will make for an impressive gift or addition to any Johnnie collection.

Another hard-to-find release from Johnnie Walker's Zodiac series is this limited edition that celebrates the Year of the Horse. In Chinese tradition the Horse symbolises power, victory and a mark of great leaders. The bottle is adorned with a mix of visual art and calligraphy. As with others in the Zodiac collection, the abv is slightly higher than standard Blue Label. A vintage bottling of a very popular Johnnie Walker varietal.
In the 20's this blend was created for ocean liners, the decanter / bottle being designed with a rounded bottom, so that it will never tip over - just swing. A boon for the barmen who had to endure rough seas and a testimony to Sir Alexander Walker's ingenuity. Swing virtually disappeared for several decades to be recently re-launched as a super-premium blend. Its distribution remains largely confined to duty-free markets. 43% Alc./Vol.

Two variants of Johnnie Walker 'Gold Label' now co-exist under the 'Reserve' and 'Centenary Blend' labels, with the latter now discontinued, and a rarity on the market. Like other products in the Johnnie Walker range, a degree of confusion surrounds their exact contents. We can tell you that the Centenary blend is a limited release to commemorate the first 100 years of Johnnie Walker. It’s a blend of fifteen different whiskies including Clynelish and Cardhu, aged for a minimum of 18 years. This particular packaging is probably the second generation version from this series.
Tasting notes: Bright gold colour. Gentle, sensual aromatics at first yield pristinely clean, buttery grains, then dried grass and dried coconut notes seamlessly lead into more fruity scents. Delicate pear and ripe apple notes emerge, with a sublime smokiness that wafts throughout adding overall depth. A very sexy sniff that pretty much clocks the Scotch Whisky aroma wheel. The palate delivers a powerful, sweet, spicy, gently smoky malt burst with pear and dried apricot emerging on the back palate. Excellent length. Impeccable balance. Long, drying peppermint / honeycomb aftertaste. A fabulous blend packing as much character and power as many a Single malt. 40% Alc./Vol.

A limited edition 'gold-wrapped' bottle of Johnnie Walker's Gold Label Reserve. There are many bottlings of Johnnie Walker, however few Australian whisky enthusiasts will be familiar with Johnnie Walker Gold Label. Until relatively recently, Gold Label was reserved exclusively for the duty-free market. When the product was released at the retail level it provided lovers of Johnnie Walker with an opportunity to taste the portfolio’s "older brother". Made by blending 15 whiskies, at the heart of which is Clynelish. 40% Alc./Vol. - Johnnie Walker Sweet Peat Blended Scotch Whisky (500ml)SCOTLAND$99. 99Bottle$1199.88 DozenABV: 40.8%

Another of Johnnie Walkers experimental drams, this time blending some classic Diageo peated whisky with some sweeter malt and grain from their portfolio. An uncommon flavour combination but can be excellent when done correctly. By all reports this whisky has achieved as much. Another vintaged JW bottling but not a collectable this time! Grab this one, then grab a new one and have a little side by side comparison. Even a producer such as Johnnie Walker can't be perfectly consistent over decades. Have a peek into how people enjoyed this particular drop ~30 years ago! 40% Alc./Vol. One only. - Johnnie Walker Blue Label Alfred Dunhill Limited Edition Blended Scotch Whisky (1000ml)SCOTLAND$599. 00Bottle$7188.00 DozenABV: 40%

A collaborative bottling from two of the UK's most respected luxury brands, this is definitely one of Walker's most distinctive limited editions to date. The striking carton interior shows Dunhill’s famous Chassis design evoking the rolling hills of Scotland. Or is it a contemporary urban landscape? Designed for the travel retail market, the one litre bottle features a map design, which also decorates the interior and exterior of the pack. As always, made with rare whiskies from the most prized Johnnie Walker reserves. Extremely limited stocks. -

'...God, I love this stuff... this is exactly how a vatted malt should be and one of the best samples I've come across since its launch.' - 95 points, Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2017.Johnnie Walker Green Label is the only whisky in the Walker range to carry the 'Blended Malt Scotch Whisky' certification. It replaces the older term 'Vatted Malt' and indicates that the whisky has been blended exclusively from single malts, and not blended with inexpensive grain whisky. The Walker family began buying some of Scotland's finest distilleries over 100 years ago. Now, with over 27 malt whisky producers in ownership, the company doesn't have to look too far for the very best material. They can choose from the cream of the crop, and have also acquired over a century of distilling experience in the process, guaranteeing the quality of their whisky well into the future.
Undisputed as one of the all-time classics in its genre, Green label is instantly recognisable as a Walker blend, with a profile of fresh and slightly fruity aromas with hints of mango and toffee followed by the trademark whiff of peat & sea air that distinguishes most of the JW stable.
Tasting note: Brassy gold / impeccable clarity. A sophisticated, expressive nose offers an assemblage of soft, sweet peat, oatmeal biscuit, dried mango / fig, white pepper with good freshness - sustained even after several minutes in the glass. Full and well rounded in the mouth with nipping spices carrying the malty attack, along with flavours of salted crackers, restrained peat and an oily-yet-crisp finish with strong staying power. The vivacious and intensely flavoured character of this vatting will keep you coming back time and again. Forget Blue Label: Green and Gold remain the stars in the JW line up. 43% Alc./Vol.
Other reviews... Just as complex as Johnnie Walker Gold, but fuller and more richly textured. (Not surprising, given that there are no grain whiskies in Johnnie Walker Green.) This is one of the finer vatted malts on the market. Its flavors are well-integrated. You’ll find creamy toffee and nougat at its core, which is then layered with notes of vanilla, mint, fresh brine, and even a hint of mustard seed. Excitingly fresh and vibrant on the finish. A whisky for both the blend and single malt drinker. And at the price, it is also fairly valued for an all-malt whisky.

- Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare Port Dundas Blended Scotch Whisky (750ml)SCOTLAND$499. 00Bottle$5988.00 DozenABV: 43.8%
Johnnie Walker's selection of long closed "ghost" distilleries continue to feature in a series of limited edition Blue Label bottlings. The fifth in the line up includes dwindling reserves from Port Dundas, which shipped its distinct Scotch from Glasgow canals to the world for nearly 200 years. Cambus and Brora are also in the mix, as well as rare whiskies like Cameronbridge and Glenkinchie. The latter add spiced apple notes alongside the aromas of peaches and dark berries from Clynelish, Dailuaine and Auchroisk.
Built in Glasgow in 1811 at the highest point in the city’s rich commercial history, the historic Port Dundas distillery closed in 2010 after Diageo moved the majority of its grain whisky production to Cameronbridge. It traditionally contributed to blends, including Bell's, Black & White, Haig, J&B, Johnnie Walker, Vat 69 and White Horse. Slowly but surely prices are increasing as awareness of its limited nature and generally good to excellent quality gains ground.

A limited edition Black Label under the sub-title of "Highlands Origin", emphasising the source of Diageo's malts that make up the blend. The label depicts the Scottish Highlands in gold, describing aromas and flavours of orange rind, marmalade, honey and a spicy finish. Keen eyes will note this format is actually a blended malt (no grain included) and it arrives at a slightly higher ABV of 42% as opposed to 40% for the standard Black Label bottling.

A limited Edition Johnnie Black pack created in collaboration with acclaimed fashion designer, Richard Malone. Includes a 700ml bottle plus two tumber glasses. Malone comments, "I was inspired by the rich flavor of Johnnie Walker Black Label when designing this contemporary and confident print. The distinctive and stylish pattern is in black, gold and greys because, to me, these colors reflect the rich flavor and smoky character of the whisky."
