1989 Murray McDavid Mission Gold Series Highland Park 21 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
Note: Product has come from a private collection and as such has some minor scuffing/scratches/handling marks. Actual product pictured.
From its fabulous colour, to a finishing in Banyuls casks, and the fact that it was bottled at Bruichladdich (no doubt due to Mark Reynier's association with Murray McDavid), this has to be one of the most unusual HPs to come our way in years! Released in 2010, 645 units made it to market. 50.3% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.
Other reviews... The aroma is thick: machine oil, salt, iodine, wine notes, dried berries and herbs, marmalade, wood. The taste is spicy, slightly sweet with salt: sweet wine, iodine, pepper, cloves, cinnamon, berry jam with sour, gum, licorice, marmalade, wet tree. Aftertaste : astringent oak, licorice, spices (pepper, cinnamon), dry herbs, dried berries, jam from berries. Conclusion . In general, to the finish in wine barrels, I'm wary. In my opinion, the lottery. There were very interesting, but there were failures. This time, a very nice whisky turned out. The barrel, apparently, was delicate and for 22 years gently limited the good-quality distillation of Highland Park, which did not lose character. - whiskybase.com
...An absolutely wonderful HP Cask and there is nothing better to drink than a very well selected and matured HP Cask, probably. a few nuances are missing, especially after the finish, only the smoke remains, you get exactly what you smell, apart from a little maritime, otherwise there would have been more, great! - whiskybase.com
