To celebrate Chinese New Year 2016, Johnnie Walker added the “Year of the Monkey” limited edition to its Blue Label family. The new bottle design features Chinese calligraphy with blue brushstrokes and golden hints depicting monkey king "Sun Wukong" in The Journey to The West, one of the four great classical novels of Chinese literature. When placing four uniquely white porcelain bottles side by side, the canvas unfolds to a stunningly beautiful visage, depicting monkeys leaping into the New Year with joy.
“Johnnie Walker Blue Label Year of Monkey special release truly marries the best of Chinese ceramic art with the very finest blend of Scotch whisky,” says marketing director of Diageo Brands Drew Mills. “This classic combination introduces unrivalled creative elements to the global whisky market, and I’m confident it will quickly become the premier choice for discerning collectors.” 43% Alc./Vol.

'Baby Blue' - Your chance to experience the famous Blue Label for well under $100.The Blue Label blend echoes early pioneering days when Johnnie Walker would select a small number of whiskies in his own local grocery shop in order to create an outstanding blend for the specific tastes of a highly valued customer. John Walker and his son Alexander began their earliest blending experiments using a limited range of whiskies, drawn mainly from the islands, the western and northern Highlands and a few distilleries in Speyside. After rejecting whiskies that didn't meet their standards, they found that the very best were strictly limited in supply. Following their lead, the Johnnie Walker master-blender developed Blue Label as a celebration of the founder's unremitting standards for only the highest quality whisky. The blend is similar to the taste and character of some of the earliest whisky blends created in the 19th century, possessing a traditionally rich peaty taste combined with an exceptionally smooth, deep, distinctly malty flavour. Whiskies of up to 60 years old contribute to its character.
This is a venerable whisky and one that would have been much appreciated by Walkers clients. A toasty, sweet aroma is complemented by a peaty, spicy notes that develop into heady flavours of oak, dark-chocolate and rich fruitcake. Typically composed of around 16 whiskies, it's dominated by Islay malt and balanced by several rich Speysiders that have undergone exceptional periods of sherry oak maturation.

An unusual 760ml bottling of the iconic 'Swing', probably bottled for the Japanese market.
In the 20's this blend was created for ocean liners, the decanter / bottle being designed with a rounded bottom, so that it will never tip over - just swing. A boon for the barmen who had to endure rough seas and a testimony to Sir Alexander Walker's ingenuity. Swing virtually disappeared for several decades to be recently re-launched as a super-premium blend. Its distribution remains largely confined to duty-free markets. 43% Alc./Vol.

Johnnie Walker The John Walker Blended Scotch Whisky (700ml)Kilmarnock, SCOTLANDReduced from $4,499.00$3299. 00Bottle$39588.00 DozenABV: 40%The pinnacle of the revered Blue Label marque. In a fitting tribute to its founder, the house of Johnnie Walker has launched The John Walker Blended Scotch Whisky, handcrafted from a small number of rare whiskies from distilleries that operated during John Walker’s lifetime. A very small quantity has landed in Australia.
Blended as a tribute to John Walker’s pioneering legacy, the arrival of this remarkable offering is an exciting moment for Australian Johnnie Walker enthusiasts. This takes the essence of Blue Label to an extraordinary level of rarity and uniqueness.
Sourced from nine distilleries, the whiskies used are a representation of what was available in John Walker’s time. They include the sweetness and softness of Cambus and Glen Albyn combined with the more powerful Mortlach and the elegance of Dailuaine creating a unique, structured blend with a refined smoky finish. The whiskies come together for a second and final maturation to marry the blend in a 100-year-old wood cask. Each single barrel batch (no two batches will ever be exactly the same) fills just 330 individually numbered, hand-blown Baccarat crystal decanters. So many big characters, malt and grain, smoke and richness, all held together in harmony and controlled balance with stunning smoothness.
Other reviews.... The pinnacle of the current Johnnie Walker range, this is a rare, inimitable blend of just nine whiskies. It exudes the aromas of ripe bananitos, whole mango, satsuma, vanilla seeds, barley awns, butter biscuits, and crystallized pineapple. The supple grain sustains indulgent, characterful malts creating a weighty, smooth mouthfeel. I’m smitten by the vanilla creaminess, burgeoning deep fruit layers, how it swells with a satisfying snuffbox smokiness. A beautifully styled blend delivering a captivating, sensuous experience. An older release of the world's number one selling blended Scotch and the preferred choice of whisky lovers every where. Johnnie Walker Red Label is a full-flavoured spirit that is a blend of Highland malt and Lowland grain whiskies. Red Label was originally created in 1909 for the new Scotch drinker who was inclined to mix whisky with ice, water, soda or in a variety of cocktails. By widening the range of whiskies used in his father's Old Highland Whisky, Alexander Walker developed Red Label as a smoother and lighter alternative - this was a break from the traditional deeply flavoured, full bodied Scotch whiskies of the past and was considered a more approachable drink. By 1920, Johnnie Walker Red Label had become the first truly global drinks brand, sold in over 120 countries. In 1933, the company was granted a Royal Warrant to supply Scotch to King George V, and the company has remained an official purveyor to the British Royal Household ever since. In 1996, Johnnie Walker Red Label won the Gold Medal at the International Wine and Spirits Competition, having previously picked up Silver Medals over three consecutive years. It has also consistently garnered Gold and Grand Gold Medals at the Monde Selection Awards.Tasting note: Brilliant, bright gold appearance. Aromas offer a peaty top note hovering over sweet, fat, oily grains. The palate possesses good concentration with the peat laced sweet grains and gentle spices contributing to a fat, rich, oily mouth feel. Aftertaste of vanilla and sweet cereals with the peat re-emerging. Technically faultless and an achievement given how much of this stuff is churned out. But this bottling (and they do vary) is lacking freshness being quite sweet and clunky throughout. In fact, it's almost a little out of balance. Some fresh oak required in the mix? 40% Alc./Vol.

This is one of 2000 ceramic decanters which filled with 25 year old whiskies from renowned Highland and Island single malt distilleries, blended with soft 25 year old grain whisky to create a unique and mature luxury blend. One taster described it as "Very smooth but really voluminous blend for apple lovers, Glen Grant friends, for example, will enjoy it."Archibald Lauder was a man who believed in good things done well, something that was reflected in all his accomplishments. Being the owner of one of Glasgow’s finest hostelries (the eponymous Lauder’s Bar) he always dressed well and catered for his guests’ every need. His establishment was known city-wide for welcoming people from all walks of life.
Whisky production was made legal in 1815, and still by the early 1830’s quality was anything but consistent. Archibald realised that the only way to provide his friends and customers with a great whisky every time was to create his own blend. The first unique whisky from the bar appeared in 1834, and Archibald Lauder spent years perfecting that blend. He proudly put his name to the blend, and to this day, the label still bears his signature. Lauder’s 25 Year Old is the crowning achievement of over 180 years of Lauder’s tradition. Selected malt and grain whiskies are aged for a minimum of 25 years in a combination of ex-sherry and ex-bourbon oak casks. The resulting blend combines complex and deep flavours of rich dried fruits and subtle spice. We hope Archibald Lauder would be proud.

Maclean’s Nose Blended Scotch Whisky (700ml)SCOTLAND$89. 99Bottle$1079.88 DozenABV: 46%Ralfy's Whisky of the Year for 2024. "Top coastal blend" - whiskyfun.com
A malt-heavy blend from the team at Adelphi, named after a rocky outcrop not far from the Ardnamurchan distillery (not Charles MacLean's own nose, although he must have had something to do with its creation). Twenty one ex-bourbon Lowland grain hogsheads form a 'blank canvas' to which forty casks of ex-bourbon Ardnamurchan and sixteen ex-sherry casks of the same are added. It’s then dressed with five casks of Campbeltown malt. The significant presence of ex-sherry casks and zero filtration add up to a blend with considerable depth, but the defining character is from the West Coast peated component. This almost tastes like Ardnamurchan 'lite' with the sweet smokey notes supported by an understated fruitiness. The finish intensifies on a peppery note, concluding ashy, fresh and medium long. While it lacks some of the oily richness found in famous rivals like Johnnie Black, Maclean's Nose is so tasty that it's closer to a blended malt than a blended whisky in the mass-produced, contemporary sense. In this case, the slightly higher price is justified. Awarded Whisky of the Year 2024 by the popular youtube blogger, Ralfy. 46% Alc./Vol.
Other reviews... This is brand new, but I've heard it's only due to be heading out of their warehouse towards the end of April. I first used to believe this baby was a much appropriate tribute to Charles MacLean's own nose, but I just saw that 'Maclean's Nose' was the name of a place near Ardnamurchan, and that of a salmon farm as well. The label's been made out of barley draff, which surely is a first, but I've heard the cattle was starting to complain, as that draff is usually used as food for them. You cannot please everyone, I suppose. This shelters 70% malt, so in my book, it's a quasi-malt. Colour: straw. Nose: I am not certain there is some Ardnamurchan in there, but that's totally possible, if not obvious. It's very close to 'nature', to the sea, to the draff (there), to grist, to breads, to lemons, to damp oatcakes, with a small fermentary side in the background, which we always enjoy. Then rather earth, root vegetables, wild carrots, williams pears… You say grain whisky? What grain whisky? Mouth: much smokier on the palate, with this perfect acridness that we always enjoy as well, lemon zests, salt, oysters, sauvignon blanc, then once again these bready, fermentary notes. But the peat's carrying the flag, clearly. Finish: long, clean, natural, with no further changes, bread, peat, lemon, brine, oysters… Comments: quite bizarrely, this baby also reminds me of some of the very best new Japanese malts, in their peated forms. Hey, it's a compliment! Top coastal blend - or indeed quasi-malt. 88 points - whiskyfun.com
...It’s one of the best affordable blends you can grab and enjoy right now and I hope, when this inevitably runs out, another batch will be hastily prepared and ushered forward in the spirit of keen replenishment. - dramface.com
...Nose: Blossom honey, and the delicate florals of honeysuckle and chamomile. Cedarwood and thyme. Underneath, malted loaf. With time, caramel waffles and vanilla, then beef stock and burnt toast. Palate: Medium. Salted caramel on baked green apples, and some nutmeg and cinnamon. Shredded wheat cereal. The savoury stock note returns, backed by stewed plums. Finish: Medium, on apple core and raisins. Comment: A dependable blend with lots to like. - whiskymag.com

Straight up: oily, fruity and satisfying; with water, the grains vie for lead position and it loses a bit of its initial charm. Aged for 12 years in ex- bourbon, ex-sherry and ex-wine casks, expect the malt content to be fairly high. 40% Alc./Vol. -

2010 North Star The Magician 12 Year Old Blended Scotch Whisky (700ml)SCOTLANDReduced from $99.99$89. 99Bottle$1079.88 DozenABV: 45.5%A 25% malt / 75% grain blend that continues a theme of labels inspired by Tarot cards. Numbered 'one' – the number of new beginnings and opportunities - the Magician card depicts a man with one arm stretched upwards to the heavens (while holding a glass of whisky), and the other pointing down to the earth, representing his connection between the spiritual and the material realms. On the table in front of him are the four symbols of the Tarot suits – a cup, pentacle, sword and wand – each symbolising one of the four elements – water, earth, air and fire. It is also a sign that he has all the tools (and elements) he needs to manifest his intentions. Above his head is the infinity symbol (in this case, a big red hat). 45.5% Alc./Vol.

2016 North Star The Fool 6 Year Old Blended Scotch Whisky (700ml)SCOTLANDReduced from $94.99$84. 99Bottle$1019.88 DozenABV: 57.3%North Star's Tarot Blend 'The Fool' has been crafted from single malts and grains matured for six years. The parcel of casks came from Edrington Group (owners of Macallan, Highland Park et al.), the malts reportedly held in refill Macallan/Glenlivet butts, with the majority of the grain component coming from North British (80%). Breaking the trend of mediocre blends at 40% with caramel colouring and filtration, this is not shy on intensity at 57.3%. It's our understanding nothing has been added - which is all the more unusual for the category. Fingal Crayton at Dramface.com commented, "...this blend offers a no-nonsense yet intriguing profile. It's a solid choice for those who appreciate the simple pleasures of a well-crafted whisky. I’m really hopeful that North Star Spirits continue this series with the rest of the tarot deck. Whether the rest are blends like this one or not, this is a fantastic start to this series. The value on offer here is unreal."
Our tasting found a delicious blend leaning more towards malt whisky, despite the mash bill being grain heavy (that's probably due to a preference for maize rather than wheat at North British). A rich, oily cereal character fills the mouth before nuances of dried apple and cinnamon enter at the finish. Dangerously easy to drink uncut, the charming reproduction Tarot card-inspired label features a young man without a care in the world as he sets out on a new adventure. He's gazing upwards toward the sky (and the Universe) and is seemingly unaware that he's about to skip off a precipice into the unknown. Over his shoulder rests a modest knapsack containing everything he needs – which isn’t much (in this case a large Glencairn filled with whisky)! At his feet runs a small dog, representing loyalty and protection while encouraging him to charge forward and learn the lessons he came to learn. In short, the card speaks of new beginnings, opportunity and potential.

The sweeter, softer grain component dominates the mid palate, rounding off with flavours of sponge cake, light vanilla and white pepper. Non chill filtered for maximum flavour. 46.1% Alc./Vol.
Notes from the bottlers... Nose: Peach melba and a flat white. Palate: Raspberry liquorice twirls. Finish: Frosted bon bons - a sherbert dip.

North Star Spica 20 Year Old Blended Scotch Whisky (700ml)SCOTLAND$99. 99Bottle$1199.88 DozenABV: 45.2%The first edition of North Star’s 20 Year Old ‘Spica’ is a cask strength grain and malt blend named after part of the constellation of Virgo, the 16th brightest star in the sky. Distilled in 1997 and matured in both European and American oak barrels, 1000 bottles are available world wide. Sold out in the UK, and no wonder - it's incredibly affordable for its age. We have a small allocation. Tasting note: Deep burnished copper / autumn leaf brown. Looks like a sherry bomb. Initial inhalations are slightly prickly, developing hints of roasted nuts, fruit cake, orange zest, pepper, raw sugar and vanilla (a little like well aged rum). Slightly lean and leathery on entry. Warm and spiced up delivery is dryish with restrained sherry input and a touch of sulphur through the aftertaste - a bit like an 'old fashioned' sherry style. So concentrated and spirity, this feels like a much higher strength. Best with water. 45.2% Alc./Vol. Other reviews... Colour: amber. Nose: This feels like rather a high malt content with these nice notes of Christmas cake, apple compote, liquorice and prune jelly. Also some figs, mulling spice and celery salt. Some greener apple and cider notes come in time along with some sharper wood spices. Mouth: the grain is a little more lively here but there’s still a richness and a breadiness which gives a nice sense of roundness and texture. Some oatmeal flapjack, orange marmalade and limoncello. Also some rather biting spiciness, rye bread and cedar wood. Good. Finish: Medium length, with some grainy bite, notes of blood orange, mustard powder and a touch of aniseed. Comments: A simple but perfectly pleasing thing to sip if and when winter ever returns. I liked the roundness that the sherry influence brought to proceedings. 84 points - whisky-fun.com - North Star Grain 36 Year Old Cask Strength Blended Grain Scotch Whisky (700ml)SCOTLAND$350. 00Bottle$4200.00 DozenABV: 52.5%A new concept in blended whisky is this 'Grain', sourced from distilleries across Scotland. Aged for 36 years in a single Bourbon barrel before being bottled in March 2019 for North Star's eighth batch of single cask bottlings. We have less than a handful of the 288 bottles released. Notes from North Star say to suggest aromas and flavours of charred oak and poached plums, hard toffee and French fancy followed by a drying, salty finish. Non chill filtered. 52.5% Alc./Vol.

North Star Spica 29 Year Old Blended Scotch Whisky (700ml)SCOTLAND$165. 00Bottle$1980.00 DozenABV: 45.5%Tasting note: [15ml sample] Independent bottlers, North Star are renowned for offering big age statements at modest price tags. Another incredible buy, this deeply coloured, three-decades-old blend smells like it's almost dripping in sherry (PX?), air time accentuating dates, fruity dark chocolate, pipe tobacco and trace sulphur. Less apparent wine input on the palate, but the delivery is everything you'd expect from a middle ager of this ilk. Malt-heavy with no shortage of richness (dark chocolate / dried fruits) and beautiful balance, with a vibrancy, lightness and length on the finish that suggests it's been bottled at ideal maturity. Non chill filtered. 45.5% Alc./Vol. 1000 bottles worldwide. Other reviews... Colour: gold. Nose: that’s right, a blend. Nice maltiness, breads, cakes, ripe fruits, old wine cellar, potpourri, liquorice, cherries, sweet mushrooms… It hasn’t got the higher definition of a good single malt, but it’s got a good complexity and I’m not sure we’re worse off for that. Mouth: same feelings. Fruitcake, dough, cherries, raisins, malt, then chocolate and tobacco and a touch of violet sweet. Or there, crystallised violet flowers, as they make in Provence. Finish: rather medium, and rather more on marmalade, oranges… Back to cherries, raisins and pepper in the aftertaste. Comments: reminds me of some folks that used to fit VW Beetles with genuine Porsche engines. Good, one Euro each and I drop my crappy car analogies and metaphors.
85 points - Serge Valentin, whiskyfun.com - Old St. Andrews Clubhouse Blended Scotch Whisky (500ml)SCOTLAND$59. 99Bottle$719.88 DozenABV: 40%
Old St Andrews Whisky was founded in 1969 by Robert and Julian Haswell with the aim of bringing together Scotland’s greatest gifts to the world: whisky and golf. The first product was a large two litre bottle in a leather golf caddy cart that was developed for the Japanese market. Old St. Andrews Scotch whisky is stored and matured in oak casks previously used for sweet wines, sherry or port, which give it a delicious richness and roundness. The premium blend of carefully selected malt and grain whiskies, sipped neat or with water, ice or mixers will appeal to sophisticated whisky lovers everywhere.
The first Clubhouse golf ball bottles were produced in 1987. Originally they were white - just like a golf ball - and the clear glass 'decanter ' clubhouse bottle was not produced until 1993. Since then it has become the company’s best selling product. 40% Alc./Vol.
Tasting note: Nose: Clean as a whistle; both malts and grains are young but proudly so. A Speyside influence comes through loud and clear: mouthwatering. Taste: The early arrival is identical to the nose: clear as the morning dew on the first green and no less grassy. Finish: long with some grain gaining hold but bringing with it some soft vanillas. Balance: a fair way to start any day. How I love young blends: fresh and lacking any sort of pretensions. It has quality enough.
Rating: 90- tasting note sourced from Jim Murrays Whisky Bible 2006. - Pigs Nose 5 Year Old Blended Scotch Whisky (700ml)Fife, SCOTLAND$59. 99Bottle$719.88 DozenABV: 40%
Pig's Nose is a five year old blended whisky, created by Richard Patterson, Scotland’s only third generation master blender. It forms a companion brand to 'Sheep Dip'. The whisky's name comes from the farming expression “soft as a pig’s nose” and the blend contains a high percentage (40%) of malt whiskies, principally from Speyside imbuing the product with their characteristic softness. 40% Alc./Vol.
Described in Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2008 as “A big, sweet, chunky, gawky, grainlashed but hugely enjoyable blend.'

Pure Scot Virgin Oak Blended Scotch Whisky (500ml)SCOTLAND$44. 99Bottle$539.88 DozenABV: 43%A second arrangement from Lowland single malt producer, Bladnoch, combines their own malt at a minimum age of eight years with malt whiskies from Islay, Speyside and the Highlands, along with grain whiskies. As the name suggests, the final blend is finished in new (unused or virgin) American oak casks.
Other reviews... Bladnoch master distiller Ian MacMillan’s blend is worth seeking out for its appealing freshness; green apple, caramel, shaved oak, toasted whole-grain bread, warm pastries, and dried peels. The palate is awash with bright flavors of honey, walnut, barley sugar, gingerbread in custard, orange taffy candy, and a little spice. It squeezes out more juicy peel oils the more you taste. The conclusion has sweet honey, gingerbread crumbs, and a citrus intensity. 92 points - whiskyadvocate.com
...Pure Scot's Virgin Oak expression is surprisingly full-bodied and peaty for a blended Scotch. An assertive smokiness comes through on the first sip, backed by vanilla, oak, and a touch of baking spice. That peat smoke comes through again on the finish with meaty, barbecue note. This is the kind of blended Scotch that could appeal to fans of American whiskeys, and it's a solid value too. 87 points - distiller.com

Other reviews... A marriage of Dalmore, Fettercairn, and Ardbeg, and their personalities certainly show. The whisky was blended and then aged for an additional 15 years -- very atypical. The marriage of the three really works very well, combining a rich sweetness (honeyed malt, toffee) with spice, brine, vanilla, bitter chocolate, charcoal, espresso, tobacco, cigar ash, subtle marmalade, and firm -- but not dominating -- leafy peat smoke. Thick, nicely-textured body, too. Lingering brine and smoke on the finish. Delicious as it is, I can only imagine what it would be like bottled at 46% and not chill-filtered. (I probably would be bumping it up a few points.) 92 points - whiskyadvocate.com
...Sheep Dip is a brand of blended Scotch whisky that was formerly owned and produced by the Spencerfield Spirits Company, a whisky blender & gin producer that was based in Inverkeithing, Fife. The company purchased both the Sheep Dip blended malt whisky brand and the Pig's Nose blended whisky brand from Jura & Dalmore owners Whyte & Mackay circa 2005, but the Spencerfield company itself was purchased by Ian McLeod Distillers, owners of Glengoyne, Tamdhu and the resurrection-in-progress Rosebank, in 2016.... Notes: It's an interesting old blend, no question, and the sherry influence is quite overt - that would be those first-fill "marrying" casks showing themselves. But it's the Ardbeg component of this blend that saves the day and makes this dram much, much more than it would have been otherwise. The subtle coastal influence, tar and ashy smoke all point towards the legendary Islay distillery, and while there probably wasn't a large amount of Ardbeg in the mix, whatever amount there was certainly carries the entire dram on its shoulders. In fact I'd say that the reputation that this Sheep Dip Old Hebridean has rests entirely with the Hebridean part of the recipe. They did well naming it "Old Hebridean" as well, since neither Dalmore nor Fettercairn are particularly appealing, or eye-catching, or Hebridean! This is certainly an "old school" whisky, and it's extremely easy-drinking. I don't doubt that the malts involved were quite well aged. - peatedperfection.blogspot.com/
