Kilchoman Pedro Ximenez Sherry Cask Matured 2023 Edition Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
    Islay, SCOTLAND
    $199. 00
    Bottle
    $2388.00 Dozen
    ABV: 50%

Like many others, we've been long-time fans of Kilchoman. Some go as far to say that no better quality peated malt is currently produced in Scotland. A small scale, hands-on approach and attention to detail make each release at least as good as the last. The 2023 PX Sherry edition is the first Kilchoman to be aged full-term in PX casks. You might consider five years old to be too young, but PX hogsheads can be aggressive; a shorter spell is often the best option to ensure a balanced result. Here, the citrus sweetness and peat smoke are beautifully married with the fruit'n'nut chocolate character of the sherry. Never too sweet, by the finish it's definitively Kilchoman; Vivacious and fresh, with a signature rush of maritime peat and tingling pepper fading into cocoa and wood smoke. Distillery character wins the day. Tasted from a 30ml sample. 50% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered. 23,000 bottles produced.

Notes from the producers... Nose: Sweet sultanas and raisins with rounded peat smoke and layers of liquorice and hints of citrus sweetness. Palate: Brown sugar and malty sweetness then orange peel, citrus, dark chocolate and waves of sherry sweetness. Finish: Chocolate coated raisins, oak smoke, mixed spices and lasting PX sweetness.

The label features artwork from equine artist, Jaime Corum, a proud Kentuckian. The distillery states, "Secretariat is one of the most iconic thoroughbreds in horse racing history, and it’s an honour to celebrate his enduring legacy through our $1,000 Mint Julep program,” said Woodford Reserve Master Distiller Elizabeth McCall. “The money raised from this charity program will help ensure the impact of Secretariat is told for many years to come." 45.2% Alc./Vol.

    $1499. 00
    Bottle
    $17988.00 Dozen
    ABV: 50.4%

224 cask strength bottles from a single refill Bourbon hogshead make up this venerable release, one of the oldest Miltonduffs on record. During its prolonged maturation, the distillery changed ownership three times. Famed for its robust and oily character that's used in large part in the Ballantine’s blends, official bottlings were rare until 2017 when it was included in a new range called the 'Ballantines Single Malt Series'. At the time of writing, we have one bottle only. 50.4% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered. Collectable.

    Speyside, Highlands, SCOTLAND
    $220. 00
    Bottle
    $2640.00 Dozen
    ABV: 57.4%

One of our favourite lesser-known Speysiders, Inchgower often shows a touch of coastal character and waxiness aligning it with several North Coast distillates. Maturation in a Palo Cortado sherry butt makes this edition a variation on classic sherried styles with one taster describing it as "...a creamy-sweet sherry board with full fruit that is pleasant and lovely... you can really notice the cream sherry." 57.4% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.

Given the sales of Johnnie Walker Black in Asian countries, it's easy to find someone from the region who likes peaty whisky, which is why Big Peat bottled this special edition just for the Taiwanese market. Colorfully labelled, cask strength, non chill filtered and very, very peaty, what's not to like? The outturn was just 720 bottles, so it's also a genuine limited edition. 53.9% Alc./Vol.

There was a London edition from Big Peat, so why not an Edinburgh edition? This highly successful series from Douglas Laing forms part of the 'Big Peat World Tour'. As you'd expect, the whisky inside is distinctly Islay with peated malt, bonfire ashes and salty rock pools galore. The outturn was tiny - just 180 bottles at 46% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.

2010 Glenfarclas Christmas Edition 2022 Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
    Speyside, Highlands, SCOTLAND
    $149. 99
    Bottle
    $1799.88 Dozen
    ABV: 46%

New vintage just landed. "...excellent young sherried Glenfarclas." - whiskyfun.com

Although it's not certain when this series started, there have been a number of annual Christmas bottlings from Glenfarclas. Through the 1980s they were cask strength and came with big age statements. More recent bottlings have landed at approximately ten years of age. The 2010 edition had and outturn 5,400 bottles. All the right ingredients such as 100% maturation in Oloroso Sherry casks, zero chill filtration and a 46% ABV add up to a quality limited edition that's more than just a label change. Some will stash this away in collections, but we'd like to think most bottles will get opened and shared in the spirit for which they were intended. Whiskyfun's enthusiastic notes below. Distilled December 2010 / bottled 2022. Probably a European exclusive, though not confirmed. One shipment only.

Other reviews... Aged in oloroso sherry. Aren't we a bit late once more? I'm noticing that they keep calling themselves 'a Highland'. Colour: full gold. Nose: very similar whisky, this one being just a notch nuttier and with more oranges. Perhaps…. We're extremely close, nonetheless. In cases like this one, the taster must be careful not to swap his/her glasses, or everything's ruined. Mouth: ditto. You would almost believe this was the same batch, but we won't complain, it's excellent young sherried Glenfarclas. Finish: perhaps a little more chocolate and fig jam? Comments: merry Christmas (what?) 86 points - whiskyfun.com

This is the first in a new series that's exclusive to travel retail. We've managed to secure a small allocation from a secret source.

"The Spice Road " was created by master blender, Jim Beveridge, to evoke the aromas of Asia. It's one of a series collectively known as "The Explorers Club Collection'" in reference to John Walker's pioneering travel around the world to establish markets for his whiskies back in the 1800s. The Spice Road is the first in a sub-series named the Trade Route Series - the whiskies are inspired by the cultural richness that can be found on three of the world's great trade routes.

Spice Road will be followed by 'The Gold Route", with tropical flavours designed to reflect the aromas of the Caribbean and Latin America, due for release in March or April next year. Finally, Johnnie Walker ''The Royal Silk Route'', the most expensive of the line-up, will hit airport shelves in May or June. We'll see if we can source these releases as they go to market. 40% Alc./Vol.

A travel retail exclusive delivering an extra smoky hit to the famous Green Label Pure Malt. The blenders have upped the input from Caol Ila distillery on Islay, ensuring a ‘rich, fruity sweetness’ that’s complemented by flavours of peat smoke. The no-age-statement malt blend also includes whisky from Clynelish, Glenkinchie and Cardhu.

Jim Beveridge, master blender for Johnnie Walker, said: ‘As whisky makers, we’re passionate about flavour, and creating this exclusive travel retail variant of our blended malt whisky has given us an opportunity to showcase a rare blend of rich malts.’

Doug Bagley, managing director of Diageo GTME, said the release is designed to broaden the selection of malts available to shoppers in travel retail. Expect aromas of wood smoke, spice, layers of orchard fruits and sandalwood. Very limited stocks. 43% Alc./Vol.

The final addition to the Johnnie Walker Explorers' Club Series - "The Royal Route" was launched in 2013 as a Travel Retail exclusive.

Developed as a 'luxury' whisky, Walker's Master Blender, Jim Beveridge comments, "We sought out only the very finest, beautifully balanced blends that have deep evocative flavours and a character to match. On the nose, there is a vast array of rich fruity flavours including apple, pear, fig and peach. Reflective of the beauty, rarity and exotic nature of the luxury goods that were exchanged on the royal trade route, it has an intense and complex flavour with notes of dried fruit and toffee, handsomely balanced with a subtle woody sweetness and a lingering wispy aromatic smoke. THE ROYAL ROUTE delivers far more depth of character, with richer, multiple layers on the palate."

This edition is inspired by the majestic history and the sights of the royal trading route, famed for bringing the luxuries of the world to the hands of Kings. The travelers' tales of the legendary journeys that took place on this road, the precious silks, Persian ornaments, diamonds and pearls that were traded along it, inspired Jim Beveridge to create what is the most opulent variant in the series.

Appleton Estate Nassau Valley Casks 21 Year Old Rum (750ml) - DAMAGED GIFT BOX
    JAMAICA
    Reduced from $240.00
    $220. 00
    Bottle
    $2640.00 Dozen
    ABV: 43%

This is the new version of the 21 year old classic from Appleton, arriving in an updated bottle and box presentation. First launched in 1996 and named after the heart of Jamaica, the Nassau Valley, the reimagined expression reveals "...a floral scent that develops into a unique mature nutty bouquet, with notes of vanilla, orange peel, nutmeg, almond, coffee and cocoa for a long, dry and luscious finish."

The blend of rare and hand-selected pot and column still rums have all been tropically aged for a minimum of 21 years. Jamaica’s Nassau Valley, 400 ft above sea level, surrounded by limestone hills ranging up to 2,000 ft, provides beautifully filtered waters to the Estate-harvested cane.

“Jamaica is a place unlike anywhere else in the world,” notes Master Blender, Joy Spence. “With Appleton Estate 21 Year Old Nassau Valley Casks, we wanted to celebrate our home in an elevated, modern way with a new sleek, sophisticated version...”

Rooted in traditions that go past the American Revolution, not much has changed at Appleton since the 18th century: water is still sourced from a spring on the estate, small batch pot distillation remains the norm, done on-site using a proprietary yeast strain propagated from the estate-grown cane. The estate's versatile blends have been quietly changing the perception of rum, with homes and bars across the country embracing the rum renaissance. 43% Alc./Vol.

An unusual age statement is inspired by Alfred Barnard's visit to the distillery in 1887 which became part of his book, “The Whisky Distilleries of the United Kingdom”.

According to Diageo Director of Whisky Outreach, Dr. Nick Morgan, “At the end of the tour, he was given a taste of the whisky…he tasted an eight-year-old Lagavulin, which, of course, remember at the time was actually quite old…whiskies were considered to be venerable once they got around six years old in the 19th Century,” Morgan said in an interview with www.whiskycast.com. “He declared that whisky to be exceptionally fine, so our mission with this bottling was to find an exceptionally fine eight-year-old liquid which we thought Barnard would quite like if he were to be back here tasting it today.”

Tasting note: Very pale straw gold showing considerable legs. Powerful and complex aromas include cocoa, sea spray, white pepper, dilute Elastoplast and lanolin followed by hints of citrus zest. Several minutes air contact accents the latent malt as well as dark chocolate. Concentrated but also surprisingly soft; almost creamy with grassy malt and a juicy vanilla, kelp and peppermint finish that goes long into the aftertaste. A departure from the 16, but terrific young malt. 48% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews... Nose: Pronounced maritime and smoke notes, with underlying fresh-cut brown bread. Citrus in the background (lemon zest?). Notes of red fruits develop with the addition of water. Fresh and lively. Palate: The body is quite light but clearly is distinctively Lagavulin with the signature taste of sweet, warm, tarry wood smoke and developing depth and complexity. More sweet notes emerge with water to tussle with the Lapsang Souchong black tea flavours. Hints of herbal tobacco and fresh mint. Finish: The smoke lingers engagingly with a final flourish of sweet minty tea perhaps served from a cedarwood chalice that had been dipped in the sea. If this is the start of Lagavulin 200 then 2016 will be a year to remember. 48% Alc./Vol.

    Note: No gift box supplied.

Previously only available as part of Diageo's annual Special Releases program, the 2011 edition was the first to be bottled at the classic Talisker strength of 45.8%, instead of cask strength. Outurns were typically around 20,000 bottles annually.

Other reviews... Talisker is slowly becoming Diageo's most 'animated' malt name, while most other distilleries remain very quiet (some would say elegantly self-assured). This year alone, we see the third new NAS expression, namely Dark Storm, which may be to Storm what Double Black is to Johnnie Black. Or not... I think this was the first 25yo bottled at Talisker's usual lower strength instead of the previous 'high strength' levels. The last earlier version that we've tried was the 2008 at 54.2%, brilliant stuff (WF 91). Colour: full gold. Nose: a completely different planet after the Dark Storm, this is smoother of course, but also more complex, with some lilac, tangerines, roses, almonds, this very 'tropical' smokiness that only old peaters can display, beauty cream, brine, oysters... It's a lovely nose, delicate and subtle. Mouth: once again, a slightly smoother version of an old Talisker but power is there. It's no straight brute as older versions could be (remember the 62% vol? Or was that the 20yo?) but it's not lacking oomph. Smoked overripe apples and lemon curd plus brine and kippers. There. Finish: long, maybe a notch woodier, with this feeling of strong green tea but also a perfect brine. Little pepper this time. Comments: I know some whisky lovers and Talisker aficionados were shocked by the drop in strength and in theory, I should be shocked too, but let's be honest, this remains a mightily powerful dram. 90 points - whiskyfun.com

...Initially salty, then sweet and spicy on the nose, with summer berries, heather honey, and an earthy note, plus subtle peat. Spicy and drying on the slightly waxy palate, with licorice, aniseed, and prominent peat embers. The finish is medium in length, peppery, and relatively tannic. 86 points - whiskyadvocate.com

Sourced from the exclusive reserve of aged casks, including those of the now silent Brora distillery, the whisky has been allowed to age for twenty-one years, achieving a smooth, deep blend - the depth and intensity of aged oak, the subtle notes of vanilla, the sweet hint of golden honey and a very smooth finish.

Note: Plastic grip on cap has a chunk missing, cork seal is still intact.

Mezcal de pechuga (pechuga translates to ‘breast’ in Spanish) is made when a finished mezcal is redistilled with local fruits, grains and nuts, and a raw piece of protein (typically a chicken) is hung over the still, cooking in the emanating vapors. Traditionally, this is a style of mezcal produced for special occasions and consumed locally—there are as many different versions as there are distilleries. QQRQ’s stunning, vegetarian-friendly recipe trades the poultry for a homemade mole paste. This paste is made to a traditional recipe by the Méndez family in Santiago Matatlán and includes chile Guajillo, chile Ancho, sesame seeds, almonds, peanuts, garlic, onion, raisins, bananas and cacao. It’s thought to be the first commercial release of its kind.

Carlos Méndez uses the QQRQ Espadin agave as the base. Following the second distillation, the mole paste is added and the spirit is rested to infuse for two weeks before a final, third distillation.

Tasting note: Clear. Unadulterated and penetrating whiffs include sweet, sappy, herbal, rubbery aromas with a smokey/saline edge. Intense and engaging in an oily wave of char-grilled capsicum, spent pipe tobacco, exotic agave and white pepper flavours. The finish is vaguely fruity, sweet and grassy with lingering wood smoke. Potent and beautifully balanced. 50% Alc./Vol.

There are many bottlings of Johnnie Walker, however few Australian whisky enthusiasts will be familiar with Johnnie Walker Gold Label. Until recently, Gold Label was reserved exclusively for the duty free market. The product has now been released at the retail level and provides lovers of Johnnie Walker with an opportunity to taste the portfolio’s "older brother".

Conceived by Alexander Walker in 1920 for a centenary blend, Gold Label had to wait another 30 years to see the light of day, due to shortages of aged malts caused by the First World War. It remained as jottings in a notebook until the early 1950s when, shortly after Alexander's death, the Johnnie Walker master blender completed this unfinished symphony. However, this time shortages caused by the Second World War, meant that bottlings were exclusively reserved for the company's blenders and directors. From its smoky, caramel and vanilla aroma to its creamy, honeyed taste, this Scotch whisky finishes with a light and lingering spiciness. It's unique character comes from an alchemic blending of 15 whiskies, at the heart of which is Clynelish, the rare Highland malt whisky made from spring water that flows over veins of pure gold.

All very rich, waxy and long. Finish: Soft, honeyed and gentle with some light smoke. Comment: Voluptuous and deeply sexy. More of a cousin to Black than a brother. "A triumph of Blending" 97 points.
    - Jim Murrays Whisky Bible 2014.

If you've been a little underwhelmed by Johnny Blue of late, this might persuade you to revisit the brand: A super limited natural strength bottling of the world famous super blend. This has been a game changer for more than a few 'malt-only' devotees, however, it's only ever been scheduled for Travel Retail. Named "Blue Label 'The Casks Edition'", it's blended from a small selection of their finest casks that were hand picked by Walker's Master Blender, Jim Beveridge. He comments, “Only one in ten thousand of our casks have sufficient character for Blue Label and in creating this special edition we really wanted to showcase the incredible flavours that come from the casks themselves”.

Tasting note: Deep amber gold with considerable legs. Patience is key here as this gradually unfolds over 5-10 minutes, developing from a shy and slightly off-key opening , to toasty grains, smoked almonds, dusty cocoa and soft whispers of smouldering, earthy peat. The later stages offer up dried fig, poached pear and manuka honey plus added sweet spice. So poised and softly spoken you would never believe the ABV.This is light on its feet, yet densely packed and almost impossibly wound up with orchard fruits, honeyed cereals and smoke in such a seamless way that it's difficult to identify individual flavours. Concludes with a delicate earthy, peaty tang. Subtle but long. A little water broadens the profile and expands the fruity-cereal aspect. 55.8% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews... You don't mess with the Johnnie Walker brand name casually, so we expect greatness, and boy, do we get it here. This has a dusty, smoky nose with dried apricot and grape, and the whisky is gossamer-soft on the palate, with sweet pear and honey evolving on top of an oaky rich heart before a tidal wave of pepper and peat, and a delightful spice smoke and oak conclusion. Magnificent. 94 points

With Cardhu single malt at the heart of the blend, Johnnie Walker’s Master Blender, Jim Beveridge has used whiskies matured for at least ten years in first-fill American Oak casks to create this latest expression. He finished the Scotch in ex-rye whiskey casks, creating a complex new whisky with creamy vanilla notes transitioning to a spicier finish.

“I believe that whisky is ever evolving and experimental in nature and I am pleased to present the first Rye Cask finished Blended Scotch Whisky” said Master Blender Jim Beveridge. “Johnnie Walker Select Casks is a unique style of Scotch that blends the flavour characteristics of bourbon and rye with some of the classic signature notes and smoothness of Johnnie Walker Scotch Whisky.

Using artwork from 19th-century Japanese artist Yoshitoshi Tsukioka's New Forms of Thirty-Six Ghosts, the Ghost Series from Nonjatta unfolds even more expressions from the Karuizawa distillery. Number 7 in the series, entitled "Time Slip", is one of the more unique bottlings. Blended back in the 1970s, this whisky contained both Karuizawa malt as well as Kawasaki grain distillate, which was laid down to rest under glass. Fast forward to the 1980s and the blend was transferred to ex-Karuizawa Spanish Oak for finishing, quite a long one at that being bottled in 2015. One of only 140 bottles, this looks to be one of the more drinkable releases from two legendary distilleries. Collectible.

Bardstown Bourbon Co. Fusion Series #9 Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey (750ml)
    Kentucky, UNITED STATES
    $159. 99
    Bottle
    $1919.88 Dozen
    ABV: 48.4%

Originally blending sourced whiskeys, the Bardstown Bourbon Co. has been releasing small amounts of its own Bourbon under the Fusion Series label since 2019. Essentially, these are sourced whiskeys married with increasing amounts of their own stocks across nine different editions. The Fusion Series culminated in 2022 when it was discontinued, giving way to the distillery's own output under the Origin Series label. A small parcel of the final edition has made it to Australia and we received a small sample. The whiskey's sweetish nose is contrasted by a slightly drier-rye feel to the delivery, akin to eating dark rye bread, but with a buttery topping to help you chew through it. In this case, the oiliness of the spirit combined with a dollop of vanilla serve the same effect. Delicate mint adds a final rye flourish before wood tannins narrow down the finish. Stylish.  48.4% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews... Very high rye personality but just never seems to get the balance right. That said, intermittently a pretty delicious experience when the rye does get a clear run. 89 points - Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2024

...The Fusion Series swan song, billed as their “favorite creation to date,” features a similar mix of sourced 12-year-old Kentucky (30%) and house-distilled bourbon with the BBCo. portion comprising a four grain mashbill paired with a rye bourbon, again both four years old. Fittingly, the nose on this one is the most mature I’ve yet encountered; less bright and fruity, more sultry and wood-driven. That’s not to say it’s oaky in the least. In fact, it’s surprisingly gentle with airy layers of torched sugar, Andes Mints, and pecan pie. The palate is approachable and well-balanced with an early, warming baking spice that carries across the sip, enhanced by notes of rich caramel sauce, milk chocolate fudge, RedHots, and buttery snickerdoodles. The finish is lush with a black pepper spice and slowly fading notes of dark cherry, tobacco, and cola. A fitting sendoff for an impressive series. 96.8 proof - drinkhacker.com

"...Green River Straight Bourbon nails it out of the gate..." - breakingbourbon.com

Crafted on the historic Green River campus in Owensboro, Kentucky, Green River is an industrial distillery with roots back to 1885 when J.W. McCulloch first marketed his product as “The Whiskey Without A Headache”. The slogan later changed to “The Whiskey Without Regrets,” in order to avoid liability for misleading medical claims. Over that time, numerous brands have been made there including Ezra Brooks, Mellow Corn, Medley Brothers, Old Medley, Five Brothers and Kentucky Beau. The distillery has also had several different owners and names. Most recently, Terressentia Corporation purchased the plant in 2014 and began renovations. In 2016, acting Master Distiller, Ron Call passed the torch to his son, Jacob, and in 2020, the distillery reclaimed its original title and Distilled Spirits Plant number (DSP-KY 10). Thus, the Green River brand which had largely faded from memory was reborn exactly where it originated. The product launch made an impact in the value Bourbon segment - so much so that Bardstown Bourbon bought the company the following Summer. The eponymous whiskey is distilled from a mash bill of 70% Corn, 21% Winter Rye, 9% Malted 2 and 6 Row Barley, then aged for over five years. Our tasting found an initially rye-accented whiskey where the dry, nutty and spicy character of the grain dominates before opening to a sweeter side. The delivery takes place in a delicious chocolatey setting, followed by a peachiness on the palate, refreshed by muddled mint. The overall style and high rye content makes this a little bit like Sazerac, but with a notable step up in body, intensity and definition. Besides pulling up slightly short, there's very little to dislike about this affable Kentuckian. Bottled at 90 proof (45%) without chill filtration.

Other reviews... salivating to puckering grain make for a dramatic entry with a sugar-candy fruitiness making up the midground. Barley sugar and heather honey sit well with the lemon blossom honey; slightly tart and would be short were it not for a metallic uplift. Tangy, even when some vanilla makes up ground; a thoroughly enjoyable character Bourbon with many contrasting features. 89.5 points - Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2023

...Aromas of vanilla, Tootsie Roll, caramel, and cinnamon meet more fruity, acidic scents of lime, lemon, and pineapple on the nose, with a sweeter note of fresh melon. Lots of chocolate and pistachio nuttiness on the palate; it's also spicy and offers notes of bitter espresso and pepper spice. The finish is also very chocolaty and has a pleasant tartness. Well-executed flavors, though a bit short at the end. 86 points - whiskyadvocate.com

...Green River Straight Bourbon nails it out of the gate with their 5 year old stock. What makes it work is that it’s an incredibly easy sipping bourbon thanks to an agreeable flavor profile. Despite being only 90 proof, it still packs ample intensity and a pop of heat. It’s not overly complex and the finish is on the shorter side, yet it only takes one sip to know this bourbon works. If you’re looking for very drinkable bourbon at a very reasonable price, Green River Straight Bourbon is a fantastic place to start. - breakingbourbon.com

Bardstown Bourbon Co. Discovery Series #9 Blended American Whiskey (750ml)
    Kentucky, UNITED STATES
    $240. 00
    Bottle
    $2880.00 Dozen
    ABV: 56.25%

A blend with the majority sourced from Georgia (35%), then Kentucky (31%), 17 year old Tennessee whiskey (19%), and Canadian whiskey (15%) making up the remainder. The flavours here seem to sit on the fence. At first it feels more like a corn-heavy Bourbon, then the rye ups the ante. Medium dry flavours pack decent concentration, trailing off with vanilla bean, peppery warmth and lots of bittersweet mint chocolate. Fades dryish, medium long and oaky. 56.25% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews... Toastier and woodier than Discovery #8, this blend has a bit more gravity and a considerably different — albeit still engaging — character. Malty and a bit bready on the nose, the whiskey moves over time from a pastoral aroma to one that is somewhat austere and a bit leathery. Much of that follows over to the palate, where the malty elements soon give way to a sharp citrus character, orange and lemon peel, then tobacco and more spice notes. This feels surprisingly hotter than #8, despite being lower in proof. Red pepper gives the finish some lingering burn, with cloves, ginger, and sesame oil coming on strong. Overall, it’s a bold and somewhat burly whiskey that offers plenty to love — if you can take the heat. 112.5 proof. - drinkhacker.com

Aged six years and distilled from a mash of 68% corn, 20% wheat, and 12% malted barley. The fairly pedestrian Bourbon bouquet develops a growing sense of maturity as it unfolds with vanilla wafers, peaches and pecan pie, cola, fresh-cut American oak and a lovely oily orange zest undercurrent that follows onto the palate. Displays a relatively dry, taut elegance not often encountered in this segment. A classy side of Kentucky. 50% Alc./Vol. Tasted from a 50ml sample.

Other reviews... Think of walking in a prairie meadow at a state fair, the wind curving slight hints of grain, and then an explosion of cotton candy, marshmallow, and florals. Initial earth turns to powerful notes of smoked paprika, maple, salted caramel, and fried bread. Every note is pronounced and beautiful. A strong and long finish follows with an amalgamation of everything tasted, and then cinnamon appears out of nowhere. (Kentucky only) 92 points - whiskyadvocate.com

... The corn and wheat are reportedly locally sourced in Kentucky. The nose has an impressive depth to it with notes of leather, dark honey, warm cornbread, and buttery caramels. The palate is considerably bigger than the standard bourbon with rich notes of caramelized sugar, macaroons, and dark cocktail cherry. A bit of barrel char and seasoned oak keep things from skewing too sugary. The finish is well-spiced, simmering at length with fresh cracked pepper and cinnamon. 100 proof. - drinkhacker.com
