Craigellachie 13 Year Old Gift Pack Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
    Speyside, Highlands, SCOTLAND
    $99. 99
    Bottle
    $1199.88 Dozen
    ABV: 46%

A beautiful presentation that comes with two sleek Craigellachie branded whisky tumblers.

First released in 2014, Craigellachie's 13 year old is a perfect introduction to the distillery's heavy distillate, partly the result of short fermentations but also due to enormous stills with straight lyne arms adding reflux. Even from a 30ml sample, it's a whisky with terrific depth. Fruity, almost floral aromas hint at lucerne mulch and new leather, slowly giving way to ripe orchard fruits - especially green apples. The palate sports delicious, buttery-malt and spicy pear flavours with more pepper, late fruitiness and lingering spices. Some tasters also note a slightly sulphury / smokey edge ( think spent matches). This style won't be for everyone, but it is undeniably one of the more distinctive malts in its price bracket. 46% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews... Light amber. The initial impression is one of bulk. There are heavy florals — think lilies and stewed white fruit, and just-overripe banana — but this is given a mysterious extra heft by an underpinning of a light meatiness, accompanied by a tiny lift of (good) sulfur. The palate is, unsurprisingly, thick and creamy with huge fruit that fills the mouth. A highly physical, old-style Speyside dram with classic distillery character. A statement whisky that is a must-try. 90 points - whiskyadvocate.com, (Winter 2014) Reviewed by: Dave Broom

...You couldn’t make a label look more ‘retro’, could you! Unless you start using hieroglyphs or cuneiform alphabet. Colour: straw. Nose: it is a milder, rounder and sweeter version of the 2003, but the background is similar. Wee touches of mezcal again, a little earth, a little sulphur (spirit sulphur) that borders almondiness (what?), plenty of apples and then a few raisins and a touch of vanilla. It’s got a style, and that’s just great, even if it does nose a little young, almost as much so as the DL. Mouth: a few burnt notes in the attack, notes of distillation, cooked sugar and herbs… But it gets then cleaner, maltier and slightly smoky, with a bitterish edge. May lack a part of the DL’s vibrancy (as the pros say.) Finish: rather long, between candy sugar and this bitter side. Grapefruit skin. Comments: mixed feelings here. On the one hand, I find the honesty and the nakedness fantastic, it’s not botoxed whisky at all. On the other hand, I find it a little raw and bitter. Let’s try the older ones… 79 points - whiskyfun.com

Like wine, some spirits demand a special sort of attention where conventional approaches fall short. For avid whisk(e)y drinkers, deliberation on style, water ratios and temperature are commonplace, yet surprisingly, it's the vessel that holds the liquid that is often overlooked.

"Traditionally the tumbler has been seen as the vessel of choice for the majority of whisky drinkers and the ‘whisky snifter’ relegated to the small group of true whisky tasters. D&L have now combined these worlds. The hand-blown shape of the D&L Whisky Glass combines the benefits of taste and smell associated with a traditional whisky snifter with the versatility and style of a classic tumbler. Glenfarclas 15 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml) - Plus 105 and 25 Year Old Miniatures
    Speyside, Highlands, SCOTLAND
    $150. 00
    Bottle
    $1800.00 Dozen

With Glenfarclas 15YO on the rise, we've snapped up these special gift packs selling at the same price as a standalone bottle. Each pack includes one 700ml Glenfarclas 15YO plus two 50ml miniatures (1 x Glenfarclas 105 and 1 x Glenfarclas 25YO). That's over $30 worth of FREE WHISKY! Slick presentation is an added bonus. The box comes designed with a clever drawer concealing the two samplers. It's an impressive gift for anyone just starting their journey into malts, but will equally satisfy long-time enthusiasts.

Notes on Glenfarclas 15YO... Famous as one of Speyside’s most masculine whiskies, Glenfarclas 15 is matured in 60% x-Sherry casks, with the remainder x-Bourbon, but with a difference. The latter barrels are shaved back in order to minimise their flavour input, putting the focus almost completely on the sherry. Bottled at 46%, the result is one of most full-bodied in the Glenfarclas stable. It's also one that tasters tend to notice the most batch variation in. Re-tasted in early 2022, the latest bottling takes some time to develop and blow off minor sulphur blemishes. Aromas pick up speed, echoed in attractively sherried flavours of raisin cake, fruit mince pie and digestif biscuits. The finish adds suggestions of pickled ginger and baking spices. Though not long, the flavours are surprisingly intense, well-proportioned and approachable without dilution. Give a freshly opened bottle thirty minutes to begin to show its best. 46% Alc./Vol.

Notes on Glenfarclas 105... Cask strength whiskies have not always been available to the general public. In fact, the very idea was incidental, and only materialised in 1968 when a fourth generation member of the Grant family bottled a single cask straight from the warehouse, and sent the bottles to family and friends as Christmas gifts. George S. Grant created a simple, hand written label for the bottles noting only the name of the distillery and the strength of the whisky (which happened to be 105 British Proof.) By the end of January the recipients requested further bottles. George obliged, and since then, Glenfarclas 105 has gone onto become one of the most highly sought after expressions in the Glenfarclas range. 60% Alc./Vol.

Notes on Glenfarclas 25YO... Some real class and depth to the nose which offers powerful aromas of prune, roasted nuts, honey and freshly polished floorboards. Smells expensive. Mouthfilling, and with an unexpected degree of 'tingle' for whisky of this age. Glorious at mid palate, serving up delicious honey and dried fruit flavours over rich, spicy, sugar-laced malt. Medium long with a delicate aftertaste of dried fruit and sweet leather. Aristocratic. Would make a perfect after-dinner malt. Some tasters drew comparisons with Macallan 18 of yesteryear. 43% Alc./Vol.

Glengoyne Sherry Matured 21 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky (200ml)
    Highlands, SCOTLAND
    $79. 99
    Bottle
    $959.88 Dozen
    ABV: 43%

An extended age Glengoyne in a small format, great as a gift or an opportunity to try proper sherry matured whisky without significant outlay. Matured in exclusively in first fill Oloroso and Pedro Ximenez European oak casks for 21 years, some have described it as a "Sherry monster". Awarded Gold at the 2013 International Wine & Spirit Competition.

Tasting note: Give this whisky 30 minutes to open up and you realise you're onto something quite special. The deep polished mahogany colour builds your expectations, then the nose lets you down. What is underwhelming at first richens and deepens over 10 then 30 minutes, then 2-3 hours revealing a sherry-saturate; dried peel / walnut slice, new leather, wood shavings and brazil nuts; further time enhances and sweetens the bouquet accenting dried apricot, thick peel marmalade, cigar box and more. Lean and gently bitter sweet on entry. Mid palate is medium dry with spicy wood tannins and warming yet balanced spirit before the sherry input and dried fruits rally. Concludes fully, still fresh, satisfying then powers on with hints of rancio, dark chocolate, muscat and crushed walnut in the trail. First impressions don't count for much in this superb example of older malt that demands extended breathing. Find a comfortable arm chair, sit back and this whisky may even teach you something. Natural colour. 43% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews… The nose is at first not overly promising, but it settles as it warms and what follows on the palate is at times glorious. Few whiskies will match this for its bitter sweet depth which is pure text book. Glengoyne as few will have seen it before. 93 points - Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2017

This is the most comprehensive and thoroughly researched guide to the world’s whiskies ever produced. This edition has a strong emphasis on North American releases. 384 pages. Paperback.

2021 marks the 18th edition of Jim Murray's world-famous Whisky Bible. The 2021 World Whisky of the Year is Alberta Premium Cask Strength Rye. Second place goes to a regular high scorer - George T.Stagg Jr Barrel Proof (64.2%), while the third place goes to India, with Paul John's 'Mithuna'.

Murray describes the winner as “... a truly world-class whisky from possibly the world’s most underrated distillery. How can something be so immense yet equally delicate? For any whisky lover on the planet looking for huge but nearly perfectly balanced experience, then here you go. And with rye at its most rampantly beautiful, this is something to truly worship.”

No doubt, there'll be plenty more surprise and controversy will be guaranteed as you leaf through the pages of Jim's latest tastings! This year's big winner is Colonel E.H. Taylor 4 Grain Bottled in Bond Aged 12 years. Murray hails its “sheer undiluted beauty”. The unique bottling from Buffalo Trace gives a nod to the four grains - corn, rye, wheat and malted barley - that the legendary bourbon pioneer worked with back in the 19th century. Scoring a remarkable 97.5 out of 100, the champion dram boasts a finish that Murray describes as a “slow, lightly oiled, gently spiced chocolate fade which goes on…and on”.

With over 1,200 new whiskies tasted for the latest edition of the international guide, the supreme Col. Taylor faced stiff competition from European rivals to claim the top award. Second Finest Whisky of the Year goes to Redbreast Aged 21 Years, the best result for an Irish entrant in Whisky Bible history and only the second time the Emerald Isle has made the top three.

On the podium again is the Glen Grant Aged 18 Years Rare Edition, which is named Third Finest following its second-place finish in 2017, also with 97 points.

Sectional winners include: Crown Royal Northern Harvest Rye (Canadian Whiskey of the Year); The Norfolk Parched from St George’s (European); Nikka Coffey Malt Whisky (Japanese); Paul John Kanya (Asian); and Limeburner’s Dark Winter (Southern Hemisphere).

This is the 15th edition of the publication and contains tasting notes for over 4,600 drams. Paperback. 384 pages.

2020 marks the 17th edition of Jim Murray's controversial Whisky Bible. This year Kentucky claims a triple crown: The “World Whisky of the Year” goes to the 1792 Full Proof Kentucky Straight Bourbon from the Barton 1792 distillery, a whiskey Jim Murray describes as “melodious, mysterious and slightly exotic” with a nose of “near-perfect proportions” and with an “unfaltering” finish.

Runners-up are both Buffalo Trace brands: William Larue Weller 125.7 proof Bourbon and Thomas Handy Sazerac Rye 127.2 proof.

Closer to home, the Southern Hemisphere Whisky of the Year goes to Bakery Hill's Peated Cask Strength edition. Congratulations David Baker!

Jim Murray has now tasted over 20,000 different whiskies for the Whisky Bible since it first hit the shelves in 2003. For this 2020 edition Mr Murray reflects on another 1,252.

Kavalan has built a reputation for saturated, wine-cask matured malts. However more and more tasters are gaining an appreciation for just how good Kavalan is in the absence of exotic maturations. Arguably, nothing showcases a distillate better than high quality x Bourbon oak, which is just what we have here. Arriving in a handsome 'novelty' bottling that's also collectable, the unique pot still shaped vessel offers the distillery's acclaimed tropical fruit character alongside notes of toasted oak and vanilla. 54% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.

Kavalan Solist ex-Sherry & ex-Bourbon Cask Strength Single Malt Taiwanese Whisky Gift Pack (2 x 196ml)
    TAIWAN
    $140. 00
    Bottle
    $1680.00 Dozen
A great way to experience two of the most exciting whisky releases for the year. This attractive gift pack contains 2 x 196ml bottles in a hinged leatherette box from the distillery that took out World's Best Whisky for 2015 at the World Whisky Awards.

Named for the ancient Yi-Lan county in the northeast , where the venture is located, Kavalan is Taiwan's only distillery at present. Stylistically, Kavalan's whiskies cross a remarkable breadth. Their flavour profiles range from traditional Speyside through to more robust expressions reminiscent of many recent Australian efforts. They have already confounded many critics and a cask strength release breached the mythical 3 digit barrier, rated 100 points by the highly respected ‘Beverage Testing Institute in Chicago. The 2015 World Whisky Award is just one in a steady stream of commendations, proving that nowadays, lengthy maturation is no longer the rule when it comes to great whisky.

Old Pulteney 12 Year Old Chinese New Year Gift Pack Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
    Highlands, SCOTLAND
    $69. 99
    Bottle
    $839.88 Dozen
    ABV: 40%

A special price to match a special presentation. (Normally you'd pay $80 for Pulteney 12YO). Each pack comes with two free Pulteney branded tumblers!

Suitably marketed as 'The Maritime Malt’, Pulteney’s sweet and fruity style comes with a lick of salt and sea air. It's one of a small number of coastal distilleries turning out a very distinctive style, further distinguished by its extreme northern location. Owned by a relatively small company without the promotional muscle of the major players, many whisky enthusiasts only 'discovered' Pulteney after Jim Murray named the now discontinued 21 year old World Whisky of the Year, (replaced by the superb 18YO). Choose any age statement and Pulteney promises a solid northerner, frequently matured in x Bourbon where you get the best feel for the distillate, but also suited to sherry when handled with care. Apart from the notable saline character, we often find hints of beeswax and light smoke that give it a Clynelish-like feel.

Established in 1826, for a long time the distillery was only accessible by sea. Barley was brought in by boat, the whisky shipped out and many of the distillery workers were also employed as fishermen. The herring fishing industry is no longer part of daily life in Wick, but the heritage of the region is referenced in the packaging of Old Pulteney, the labels incorporating the depiction of a traditional Wick herring drifter.

The twelve year old presents a pale gold colour in the glass and a minor sulphur note is evident beneath the light, salty, peppery malt that leaves one with an overall impression similar to fino or manzanilla sherry; it sweetens slightly with aeration releasing hints of fruit. The medium dry, biscuity palate has a pleasantly spicy burst - over all, dry and saline. The finish is crisp and fresh with delicate bready notes followed by a late coastal tang. In the spectrum of single malts, this belongs at the aperitif end, and is all the more refreshing for its individuality. 40% Alc./Vol. [2007 batch tasted].

Other reviews... Remarkably consistent.... The salt continues to ensure lustre, though this bottling has a little extra - and welcome - barley gristiness. 91 points - Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2022

...The only survivor from Old Pulteney’s core range shake-up of 2018, this has been matured in first and second-fill bourbon casks. The nose is delicate, with almonds, honey, and floral notes. Malt and toffee on the palate, with spicy oak and a hint of brine. The medium-length finish is nutty, with wood spices. 87 points - whiskyadvocate.com, reviewed by: Gavin Smith (Winter 2018)

    $479.88 Dozen
    Cellar: Drink now - 5 Years (2021-2026)
    ABV: 13.6%
    Closure: Stelvin
Brilliant very pale straw colour with distinctive highlights of green skirting the edges and a watery hue. Pronounced ripe peach, lemon butter and bees wax scents show good lift out of the glass followed by citrusy nougat scents and a faint whiff of crème brulee. Full, rich and gently creamy in its texture yet undeniably fresh at the same time, the palate serves up fleshy nectarine and white peach fruits. Sitting in the background are elements of citrusy nougat, delicate cashew, subtle crème brulee and spice. Excellent intensity with a long, detailed and refined finish.
Drink over the next 4-5 years.

    Other Reviews….
It’s the Principia of the thing. The vibe of it.
Saline, flor-like complexity, aniseed, peach and ripe grapefruit, a whiff of cedar. It’s glossy, but tight, nutty and slightly buttery, and yet with a juicy energy to acidity, a light tang and flinty feel, and a crisp and dry finish of excellent length. Maybe some preserved lemon. Distinctive. Individual. And very good. Drink 2021-2025.

    Campbeltown, SCOTLAND
    $120. 00
    Bottle
    $1440.00 Dozen
A delightful tasting pack from one of Nick's Wine Merchants all time favourite Scotch whisky distilleries.

In his book, “101 Whiskies to Try before You Die”, Ian Buxton describes Springbank's 10 Year Old as “Arguably the most traditional Scotch Whisky...a must have whisky if ever there was one”. In fact, most of what’s been released from Springbank since the early 1990s could be classified as good to great. The beautiful thing about this company is that there’s always something else on the horizon. From triple distilled, to heavily peated and cask strength expressions, to wood finished whiskies, the latter of which Springbank are the modern day masters of.

Three labels are presented here in one attractive package:
Springbank 10 Year Old - a regional classic with something for everyone in the flavour profile.
Hazelburn 10 Year Old, which is Springbank's triple distilled exception.
Longrow - a super- peated expression.

Talisker 10 Year Old Gift Pack with Mug Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
    Isle of Skye, SCOTLAND
    $89. 99
    Bottle
    $1079.88 Dozen
    ABV: 45.8%

Talisker 10YO super buy! Cheaper than the standalone 10YO and includes a bonus Talisker branded mug to take camping.

'The lava of the Cuillins' - that's how Talisker, the Golden Spirit of Skye was described by one poetic taster: the only single malt from a spectacularly beautiful island of wild moorlands and dramatic mountain peaks known as the Cuillins. Built in Carbost in 1831 near 'Talisker House', the distillery has entertained such personalities as Boswell & Johnson. Another celebrity who enjoyed his Talisker was author, Robert Louis Stevenson, describing it in 1880 as 'king 'o' drinks'. Stevenson rightly recognised it as bearing similarities to both the Glenlivet and Islay malts. However, by taking 'the best of both worlds' so to speak, it achieved a unique style. In 1892 Roderick Kemp, a part owner sold his share to establish the now-immortal Macallan. Talisker has continued strong since under the ownership of Diageo. An individual malt that remains an island classic, Talisker invariably offers a great sniff. At ten years old, the aromas are pungent-yet-fresh with Islay-like seaweedy smokiness and sweet fruity malt. There's a bold maritime influence on the palate too, perfectly complemented by a spicy, very peppery lingering finish. A little honey threads its way through the beautifully balanced spirit. Not harsh but warming. Always satisfying to re-discover this West Highland gem. 45.8% Alc./Vol.

A quite stupendous malt to be enjoyed at any time. But especially at night. - 93 points - Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2019

...Another that should need no introduction. The thing to look for in Talisker, as with all smoky whiskies, is sweetness that gives the requisite balance to the drying effect of smoke. Underneath Talisker’s smoke, which ain't as all-pervading as Lagavulin, is a sweet pear-like quality. When young there are notes of the land: heather, moor, sweet seaweed, and a finish that has a distinctive cracked black pepper hit. 90 points - whiskyadvocate.com, reviewed by: Dave Broom (Summer 2012)

Nose: A razor-sharp spiciness lances through Demerara sweetness and rich peat. Absolutely magnificent. Palate: The enormous build up of spice adds to the multi-layered peat. The sweetness is almost like freshly crushed grist. Wave upon wave, layer upon layer of complexity. Finish: Massively warming and still spicy. The peat lingers while the spice bristles. Comment: A dram to be savoured and celebrated. Rating: 95  - www.whiskymag.com.

    Bottle
    $1320.00 Dozen

Whichever of the Classic Malts you select, you're tasting some of Scotland's finest coastal styles. Your journey begins, as you sail to Islay and the tiny bay that hides Caol Ila. Then, journey north, just as the Clyde 'puffers' used to do, to the Isle of Skye and the loch-side setting of Talisker. After which, cruise around Scotland's far north Clynelish, on the storm-lashed shores of Sutherland. The pack contains one 200ml bottle of each of the following:

Caol Ila 12-Year-Old - 43% Pale straw; the light, fruity nose fresh and appetizing, with a wisp of smoke, almonds, and yes, oilskins! Firm, smooth, and light-bodied. Sweet at first, then fragrantly smoky and lightly salty in a balanced taste, smoothly leading on to a lingering, sweet-smoky finish that's often likened to the dying embers of a beach bonfire. Sublime smoke. 89 points - Jim Murray's Whisky Bible

Talisker 10-Year-Old - 46% Brilliant gold; powerful peat-smoke on the nose, with a seawater salty-sweetness. Full-bodied. Rich, dried-fruit sweetness and clouds of smoke on the palate, with strong barley-malt flavours. Smoky-sweet and powerful, with an explosion of pepper at the back of the mouth, followed by a huge, long, warming and peppery finish. Sweet thunder. 93 points - Jim Murray's Whisky Bible

Clynelish 14-Year-Old - 45.8% Yellow gold; the sweet, light, waxy nose has a faint floral fragrance that grows to suggest scented candle wax, dried flowers on the beach, and brown sugar. Firm, light to medium-bodied. Smooth and creamy mouthfeel, with maritime notes always present. Salty-dry, with an attractive, crisp sea-air finish. Deliciously drinkable. 95 points - Jim Murray's Whisky Bible
