"Really high grade corn whiskey, even if they do call it, outlawishly, Bourbon."

New from Texas are two whiskeys - a rye and this 100% Texas yellow corn Bourbon, entirely aged in Houston. The 15-20 degree temperature swings in the region give the spirits unique characteristics with an angel's share around 15% annually.

Tasting note: [2018 batch] Deep topaz. Very corn heavy on the nose; corn chips, corn bread, a little furniture polish… also vaguely green and vegetal. On the palate it's oilier and sweeter than the aromas suggest; there's good weight with vanilla and charry oak plus a little lick of spice. Satisfying - in spite of a few off notes. 46% Alc.Vol.

Other reviews... Small barrel whiskey, 100% corn. Rich, sweet, oaky nose with—at first—notes of peppermint and Rice Krispies treats; nose collapses and becomes sharp, woody, burnt. Fiery mouth, smoky notes, dry wood, and hot mint are overwhelming and somewhat astringent. Finish lingers much longer than would be pleasant; hot and tingly, with a redeeming core of corn. Tastes like it was pushed, hard, to be done.
