Wild Turkey Russell's Reserve Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey (750ml)
'...big, bold, Wild Turkey bourbon at its finest, showcasing some of the best individual barrels the distillery has to offer' - breakingbourbon.com
You can't go wrong with a high ABV bourbon that skips the chill filtration process, and in this bottling, you get everything you love about Turkey, only dialled up to another level. Master Distiller Jimmy Russell and his son Eddie select casks from 'premium locations' inside their warehouses - usually close to the centre. While the label doesn't come with an age statement, we're told the barrels tend to range from about 8-10 years old. The result is described as "the cherry on top of Wild Turkey’s ice cream sundae of bourbon offerings", ticking all the right boxes - single barrel, high proof and of decent age, packed and intense with plenty of sweet corn and savory rye flavours matched by a lengthy finish. Simply excellent bourbon that should be on every enthusiast’s shelf - it may well be the finest product the distillery makes. 55% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.

... Layered in crème brûlée, salted-caramel cupcake, caramel brownie, caramel apple fritters, caramel popcorn, and the classic caramel chew. Then, complexity: chocolate truffles, nutmeg-dusted hot bananas, ginger ice cream, cinnamon-candied almonds, and warm povitica. It's so creamy, so rich, and so unrelenting with masterful flavor that the powerfully long and caramel-forward finish is expected. Splendid, must-have sipper. A word of warning: don’t drink this straight. Don’t even try. At 110 proof, it can be downright painful. But with proper dilution, this Bourbon is still rich and deep flavored. Maturation time in dark “alligator char” barrels yields hazelnut, oak and toffee seasoned with nutmeg and clove. 90 points - wineenthusiast.com
[2017 tasting] Amber gold. Lifted whiffs of minty / apply rye over rich vanillas. Brief air contact adds caramel nib and sweet oak with sustained menthol/mint freshness. Solid from end to end with charry oak, corn bread and menthol. Magnificent balance: barely a prickle. Finishes as a vanilla-oak saturate; lingering sponge cake and peppermint in the aftertaste. Quite special, particularly at this price point.
