Winner of 'Best Blended Malt Scotch Whisky' -
World Whiskies Awards (WWA) 2015

The Wemyss family have had a longstanding passion for malt whisky and their connections with the industry date back to the turn of the 19th century when John Haig (founder of Haig's) built his first distillery on Wemyss land. Even today barley from the Wemyss Estate is prized by many of the leading distillers, and Cameron Bridge distillery is located just a few miles from the castle itself.

With this passion came the gradual realisation that, even for the knowledgeable consumer, much malt whisky terminology can be confusing. Thus, the Wemyss company use the taste and aromas of their individual bottlings to identify each expression, rather than the distillery name, so the consumer can more easily understand the style being purchased. "Velvet Fig" is the latest instalment in a series that's included tempting titles like "Smoked Sausages", "Glace Fruits" and "Coconut Cream". With only 6000 bottles produced the Australian allocation is tiny. Non chill filtered.

Other reviews... Velvet Fig is a new blended Scotch from Wemyss Malts which carries no age statement and has been matured in Oloroso Sherry casks. It is un-chill-filtered and just 6,000 bottles have been released on a worldwide basis. Mildly savoury, malty, with cinnamon, figs and polished leather on the nose. Silky on the palate, with more cinnamon, plus cloves, dates and stewed fruits. The finish is medium to long, softly spiced and warming. 46.0% Alc.Vol.
