Distilled in October 2008 and bottled in 2018, this is the second of ten in Heaven Hill’s Old Fitzgerald Bottled-In-Bond series. These bi-annual releases are differentiated by the colour of the labels and arrive with varying age statements. Each handsome antique replica decanter comes with an old style 'tax strip' that discloses when the bourbon was produced and bottled.

From a mash bill 75% Corn, 20% Wheat and 5% Malted Barley, these Old Fitzgeralds also come labelled 'Bottled in Bond' - hence, they must be aged for over four years instead of just three, thus meeting the standards of the 'Bottled in Bond Act of 1897.' The act also requires that the whiskey be a product of the grain of a single season, made by one distiller at a single distillery, and aged in a federal government-bonded warehouse. The act came as a response to the widespread adulteration in American whiskey around the late 19th century. It was an attempt by the federal government to guarantee the spirit's authenticity.

Other reviews... A somewhat tight nose, with cocoa, spiced oak, brown sugar, and saddle leather; water reveals vivid vanilla and a bit of banana. The initial honeyed sweetness and chocolate-covered peanut cluster flavors quickly get brushed aside by the tannic oak and searing spice. Drinks a bit hot and hurried—with Szechuan pepper heat before a jolt of citrus oil. 90 points

...If Bottled-in-Bond bourbons are supposed to show off a distiller’s talents, this is as fine of an example as there is. Plain and simple, Old Fitzgerald Bottled-In-Bond Fall 2018 Edition really is a well balanced and all around great bourbon. In a crowded field of limited releases, the Fall 2018 edition esques any sort of gimmick and instead exemplifies everything a Bottled-in-Bond label represents. The sip is rich and refined, and has you going back for more and more. While the price may be high for some, the bourbon justifies the cost and gets me really excited to see how the rest of the Old Fitzgerald Bottled-in-Bond limited release series turns out. - breakingbourbon.com
