Commencing production in 1990, Kininvie is one of the youngest distilleries in Scotland, built on the grounds of Balvenie. Its raison d'etre was to ease production strains at sister distilleries, Balvenie and Glenfiddich. Until recently, there's been only two official bottlings: The first was a limited edition called Hazelwood 105, while the other, named "Hazelwood Reserve" was released for the 107th birthday of Janet Sheed Roberts as a 17-year-old. The majority of Kininvie's output has otherwise been reserved for William Grant & Son's blended whiskies, (primarily the Clan MacGregor) as well as the ever-popular "Monkey Shoulder", which also includes malt from Balvenie and Glenfiddich.

This Dufftown sleeper is now on offer as a series of age statement releases.
Batch #3 was distilled in 1991 and matured in ex-bourbon casks before being finished in ex-sherry casks for a final six months. Bottled at 42.6%, the scarcity of Kininvie on the market combined with strong demand for previous releases has generated a cult following. Reports have it to be a light to middle weight dram, reminiscent of some Lowland styles.
