Am Bùrach - Gaelic for 'The Mess', might seem like a strange name until you hear the story behind this unique bottling. While vatting casks, an unnamed stillman accidentally mixed Kilchoman's core expression, Machir Bay, with Port Matured Kilchoman causing Anthony Wills, Founder of Kilchoman, to describe the resulting whisky as ‘Am Bùrach’. The name stuck.

Tasting note: This nine year old vatting of bourbon and sherry matured casks combined with a port cask matured in 2014 was filled back in bourbon barrels for a further six years ahead a six month finish in ruby port casks. Deeply coloured with a heady mix of lanolin, chimney soot and Summer Pudding on the nose; Peating to 50ppm intensifies an already dense, juicy, citrussy malt adding a delicious maritime tang. Creamy vanillas pick up the finish, vying with coastal notes and vibrant peppers. Finally, ashy through the aftertaste. Think of young Caol Ila, only peatier. 46% Alc./Vol. 10,550 bottles released.

Notes from Kilchoman... Nose: Red fruits with light citrus, earthy peat smoke and hints of creamy sweetness. Palate: Redcurrant jam, cinnamon with layers of citrus, floral sweetness and coastal influence. Finish: Layers of cooked red fruits, vanilla, peat and lasting intensity. 46% Alc./Vol.
