Isaac Wolfe Bernheim (1848-1945) was a Jewish businessman notable for starting the I. W. Harper brand of bourbon distilled at the Bernheim distillery in Louisville, Kentucky. The success of his distillery and distribution business helped to consolidate the Louisville area as a major distilling centre.
A new Bernheim Distillery was erected in 1992, with huge warehouses dominating the complex. The distillery continues to produce a number of whiskeys, including the Old Charter range, the Old Fitzgerald's & W.L. Weller's, amongst others.
The Gold Medal release is to commemorate a host of medals won during the late 1800's and early 1900's. This particular bottling is the 10 Year Old, bottled around the early 1970s.
