Glenfiddich Age of Discovery 19 Year Old Bourbon Cask Matured Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
Note: Product has come from a private collection and as such has some minor scuffing/scratches/handling marks. Actual product not pictured.
Otherwise destined for travel retail, this is one of three 19 year old releases from Glenfiddich’s Age of Discovery series. This edition celebrates the long and prosperous relationship between American Bourbon producers whom may only utilise brand new American white oak to mature their whiskey, providing a constant supply of these particular casks to the Scots which have come to dominate the industry in recent times. Extremely limited stocks
Other Reviews: (92 points) - (n23.5) Not just complex, but so delicate one is almost afraid to nose too deeply in case you break the poor thing into a million pieces; (t24) of such butterfly qualities, it wanders at random around the palate, touching down here and there to offer a barely legible malty weight; the sugars are no less constrained, a thin heather honey style feebly patting away the encroaching oak: the whole thing, like the nose, is wonderfully neurotic; (f22) melts away with limited grace and tact for a far too short finale; (b22.5) for my money Glenfiddich turns from something quite workaday to a malt extraordinaire between the ages of 15 and 18. So, depending on the casks chosen, a year on the other side of that golden age shouldn’t make too much difference. The jury is still out on whether it was helped at being 40%, which means the natural oils have been broken down somewhat, allowing the intensity and richness only an outside chance of fully forming.- Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible 2013
