Edradour (pronounced: Ed-ra-dower) remains Scotland's smallest distillery with the whisky hand made by just three men. Only twelve casks of whisky are produced a week, making Edradour a rare pleasure for a fortunate few. Rarer still is this limited release 'Straight from the Cask' bottling. Only 915 bottles were produced. Distilled 25th May 2005. Matured in Sherry Butt No. 118 and bottled 28th March 2016.

Tasting note: Deep polished copper colour. Once past the alcoholic lift the nose is jam-packed: redolent of plum pudding, ginger biscuit, cinnamon, vanilla wafer. Five minutes ups the freshness with unexpected butter menthol / peppermint before the sweet spice and fruit pudding notes return. The controlled attack is thick with Sherry: A deluge of Christmas pudding and bittersweet spice with impressive length. Thins out slightly before the sugars bounce back in the aftertaste. Cracking stuff. Sherry heads put it on your short list! 61.4% Alc./Vol.

Earlier batch tasted 2013 :
Deep gold, almost copper in colour with a pale straw hue. Powerful aromas of sweet malt, very ripe mandarin and plum pudding followed by marmalade and wholemeal bread. Hints of ginger and spice in the background. Mouthwatering! All in all somewhat reminiscent of a good rye whiskey, with a nose that changes remarkably as the whisky spends time in the glass, achieving levels of intensity we've rarely experienced from the Highlands. The medium bodied palate entry quickly builds into spice driven bursts of heavy malt, ripe citrus and orange cake. Chewy, plush and very warming with citrus, cocoa and spice flavours following on the finish. Good length with subtle aftertaste of dried apricot, sultana and vanilla. While slightly numbing to the mouth at cask strength, this is an immensely appealing whisky exhibiting intensity, complexity, mouthfeel and balance, all in check.
