Tasting note: [15ml sample] Kilnaughton is an 'internal name' that Cooper's Choice gives to a particular Islay distillery, the identity of which is a secret. Matured in an ex-Rioja wine cask, this fast sold out upon release. The aromas leap out of the glass with an almost feral intensity. Choc-ripple biscuits, lanolin and iodine opening sniffs slowly turn into something altogether more earthy. Long and drying with chocolate infused peat, sprinklings of white pepper and more of an ashy / wet wool combination at play alongside bitter dark chocolate through the finish. Ample Islay, in the tradition of Laphroaig and Port Charlotte. 318 bottles. 53.5% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.
Notes from the bottlers... The nose is intense and peaty, with black cherries and dried figs. The palate is oily with ashy peat character, old leather and juicy sweet prunes. The finish is very long with lingering peat.
