Benromach Port Wood Finish Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)

A terrific wood finished expression, distilled in 2000 and bottled in December 2012, although, in this case, the 'finishing' period actually lasted eight years in Port Casks. Perhaps this should be considered more than a final touch. Already sold out in Europe, only 1460 bottles were produced. A handful have made it to Australia.

Tasting note: Bright polished copper appearance. The initial sniff offers plenty of appeal with its deep scents of chocolate dusted dried fruits, sweet cereals, hints of smoke and brandy cream. The raisiny fruit accentuates with exposure. The palate immediately captivates with its medium dry, berry flan like flavours, shavings of chocolate towards the finish and creamy mouthfeel that combine with terrific effect. Comes across as slightly peaty too, which only adds to the depth and interest. Concludes succulent yet dry with delicate spices and cocoa notes lingering. Very distinctive in its genre. 45% Alc./Vol.
