Tasting note: The tenth edition of Loch Gorm (named for Islay’s largest fresh water lake) is the distillery's only expression matured exclusively in oloroso casks. Aged for a minimum of nine years, this release is a vatting of twenty four 500L oloroso sherry butts filled in 2011 and 2012, taming the 50ppm distillate (the exact vatting changes from year to year). An unlikely mix, not often found - intense peat and oloroso, but it works here: A slightly green, citrusy lift also engages with hints of salted nuts, dark chocolate and orange zest through the smoke. Repeats on the palate in a deliciously tangy combination of peat, sherry and menthol tobacco. The salt'n'pepper finish rounds off a beautifully poised Kilchoman, a streak of fruit'n'nut dark chocolate defining the aftertaste. 17,000 bottles are on offer worldwide. Non chill filtered. 46% Alc./Vol.

[2019 Release tasted] Sweet fruity peat, new leather, cinnamon, and ginger on the nose. Good blend of smoke and sherry on the substantial palate, with peppery red berries, dark chocolate, and peat. The long smoky finish features lively fruit spices.
