SCOTLAND
$450. 00
Bottle
$5400.00 Dozen
ABV: 46%
One bottle only to sell of this inaugural release (the first bottling ever released by Kilchoman), a contemporary Islay gem.
N.B. - Slight ware to the top corners of the outer carton. Otherwise excellent condition. Other reviews... Aged 2.5 to 3 years on bourbon casks and then finished in sherry casks for 6 months. Wow, this is quite stunning! Old-fashioned in many respects: oily texture, with rooty, layered peat smoke, coal tar, shoe polish, and hints of wet sheep as the foundation for a complex array of additional flavors: toffee apple, caramel fudge, blackberry jam, golden raisin, grist, bourbon barrel char, and licorice root. Long, smoldering ember, dried herb, light toffee finish. It’s all balanced perfectly, and very mature for its age. If you like smoky whiskies, track one down. 92 points
- www.maltadvocate.com, (Spring 2010) Reviewed by: John Hansell ...While Ardbeg can trace its lineage back to the late 19th century, Kilchoman distillery on Islay has only been operating since 2005. After marketing bottlings of its new make spirit, the distillery has finally come of age, and is able to offer Kilchoman Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky. Last month saw the launch of Kilchoman's eagerly-awaited Inaugural Release, and the wait has certainly been worthwhile. Whilst being fresh and clearly quite young, Kilchoman has a pleasing roundness that belies its age. The nose reveals peat, wood smoke, mildly medicinal notes, orange and lemon zest, plus spices. The palate is light and sweet, with hints of toffee and sultanas, while the finish is medium in length, with clear notes of peat. Distillery consultant Dr Jim Swan declares that ?If you took the peat away, you'd still have a good whisky. Amen to that!
